we begin with the trump administration which has take in its first steps towards punishing saudi arabia over the killing of jamal khashoggi. they would have their veeszaus revoked or declared ineligible to enter the united states. those without visas are ineligible for them. mike mom pawo said more action could be on the way. >> these penalties will notby the last word by the united states. we will continue to explore additional measures to hold those responsible accountable. we're learning the facts and as facts unfold, as we continue to develop our understanding of the individuals that were responsible for this that not only execute this.

all right. it's that time. time for a look at axios a.m. joining us from washington, editor in chief nicholas johnson. what have you got for this morning's one big thing? >> a gender gap and gender wars. a lot of data gaps point to the big gulf between the sexes on politics, policy and business. the top line staff that caught my attention this morning is a wide gender gap in the parties. you ask women which party they support, by more than 20 percentage points, they back democrats. men by wore than 20 points are in favor of the republicans.

it is in part and parcel driven by the number of women running for the senate this year. also in business, the "new york times" had a fascinating graphic listening to the number of men impacted by the "me too" movement who lost their job. most of them have been replaced by other men. finally, looking at specific policy issues, most women on gun control favor more regulation. most men favor less. if you ask about social media, women say it's more important for those to be safe spaces. many men say it's more important for people to be able to speak

freely. >> let's hone in on the party that is likely to see the most support for female voters. do you get a sense that there is a party trying to indicator to these voters in the sense that they're adopting policies more oriented to women voters? >> i think most parties would say women are a priority, but where the numbers show are in the polling data. there's a 20% gap as far as women who say they support democrats as far as republicans and about the record number of women this year, the vast majority of those are running as democrats. >> i think that's where the momentum is. >> we see that being infiltrated when it comes to political ads, not only on tv, the conventional way, then social media, but also on these, too. we're going to see some of these ads popping up. why is that? >> i just mentioned i have my first one last week. those are political ads on text messages. they're not subject to the same kind of rules as robo calling

and auto dialing. a lot of those text messages are being sent by hand using special programs. folks doing those can send up to 10,000 an hour. expect more of those to pop up on your phone. most of us reads those ads. a study shows 90% of those are checked within five minutes. most of us will ignore a phone call from a number we don't recognize. we always answer or at least look at our text messages. that's true. popping up, as well, on instagram and facebook. let me ask you quickly about something else making those headlines. michael bloomberg, a lot of people floating his name around as a possible 2020 contender. how is he preparing for the midterm's home stretch? what does this midterm mean for his possible presidential run? >> look for a late funding surge from him that can push total spending up over $100 million.
