court filing concerning paul manafort. robert mueller's office is accusing manafort of violating the plea deal he agreed to earlier this year. in a joint status report, mueller's team says, quote, after signing the plea agreement, manafort committed federal crimes by lying to the fbi and the special counsel's office on a variety of subject matters, which constitute breaches of the agreement. but manafort's lawyers are disputing those assertions. in that same filing, his legal team writes, manafort has provided information to the government in an effort to live up to his cooperation obligations. he believes he has provided truthful information and does not agree with the government's characterization or that he has breached the agreement. back in august the federal court found manafort guilty on several counts of financial fraud. both cases involved manafort's

political consultancy for a previous russian backed government of ukraine long before he served briefly as trump's campaign chairman. the special counsel and manafort have asked a judge to set a sentencing date for the former trump campaign chairman. president trump was tweeting about the russia probe, writing when mueller does his final report, will he be covering all of his conflicts of interest in a preamble? and will he be putting in statements from hundreds of people closely involved with my campaign who never met, saw or spoke to a russian during this period? so many campaign workers, people inside from the beginning asked me why they have not been called. they want to be. there was no collusion and mueller knows it. it may be worth noting here that department of justice officials

concluded shortly of his appointment in 2017, that robert mueller was free of any conflicts. one of roger stone's allies is apparently changing course in his answer to robert mueller and says he has rejected a plea deal offered by the special counsel. jerome corsi revealed last week that he was in talks with mueller on a potential deal on one count of perjury over statements about his contact with wikileaks founder julian assange. he initially told the special counsel in early september that he did not remember being in communication with assange ahead of wikileaks releasing thousands of e-mailed stolen from hillary clinton's campaign chairman. sources have told nbc news that mueller's office investigated whether corsi passed information about the e-mails to stone, a former campaign advisor for trump. corsi revised his testimony

earlier this month after investigators presented him with a binder of e-mails from 2016. he says he did not willfully mislead anyone and described working with the special counsel. >> they're constantly ridiculing me or insisting that i go back over and over. it's like being questioned by the north koreans. i was supposed to plead one count to lying willfully and knowingly to the special counsellor on what i said the first day. i won't lie. i will not -- to stay out of prison. they can put me in prison for the rest of my life in solitary confinemen confinement. i won't lie. i won't say that i intentionally and willfully deceived the special counsel when i didn't. >> trump tweeted, 60 minutes did a phony story about child separation when they know we had the exact same policy as the obama administration.

tough people and they used tear gas. here's the bottom line. nobody's coming into our counted unle -- country unless they come in legally. >> how did you feel when you saw the images of the women and children running from the tear gas? >> well, i do say why are they there. the tear gas is a very minor form of the tear gas itself. it's very safe. the ones that were suffering to a certain extent were the people that were putting it out there. but it's really safe. but you really say why is a parent running up into an area where they know the tear gas is forming and they're running up with a child. in some cases they're not the parents. these are people. they call them grabbers. they grab a child because they think they're going to have a certain status by having a child. you have certain advantages in terms of our crazy laws that, frankly, congress should be changing. >> the commissioner of customs

and border protection acknowledged in an interview last night that there is only one standard form used by u.s. law enforcement. i want to bring in from washington politico's daniel lippman. let's talk about the latest news and this paul manafort plea agreement. where does this leave it as far as the damage when it comes to the mueller investigation given that he's seen as a valuable witness there in that? >> although some signs have been pointing to the fact that he wasn't cooperating enough, abc news reported a couple weeks ago that mueller's team was dissatisfied with what he was telling them. i think it shows that mueller's team -- they'll brook no violation of agreements, where if they have questions and this person has agreed to a plea deal in exchange for less prison time

and he continues to lie -- this is the third time he's been caught lying. that's a very serious allegation. it leaves the mueller probe still strong because it shows they aren't going to let someone continue to lie to them. >> jerome corsi has been sparring with the special counsel's office. does he rejection of a plea deal essentially compromise potential information pertinent to the larger probe? >> well, i think they have a number of different pieces of evidence. so they are not just relying on jerome corsi. oftentimes when people say they're going to reject a plea deal, like michael cohen did or rick gates, they eventually give in. i think this is a media play by corsi to get a slighter bett ee other -- slightly better deal.

>> interesting. in a blow to president trump's continued claims that american jobs are coming back to this country, general motors has announced it will lay off more than 14,000 employees. the auto maker announced that it was slashing the factory jobs yesterday, adding that it was possibly closing up to five plants, including in detroit and ontario and ohio as well as transmission plants in warren, michigan, and near baltimore. the company says the moves are part of a restructuring effort to cut costs and focus on autonomous and electric vehicles. a white house official told nbc ne -- president trump speaking yesterday said he was not happy

convenient transactions. that is an insufficient way to implement sincere service and policy. now to president trump's job approval rating. it took a nose dive last week. the poll found 38% approve of trump's job performance while 60% disapprove. this is the fourth time that trump's disapproval rating has reached 60%. it is the first time he has hit that number this year. donald trump is also the only president who has never cracked 50% approval in gallup's ratings, something he has not accomplished in over 676 days in office. joining us is politico's daniel lippman. what do these new gallup poll numbers signal for the president's 2020 bid? >> well, i think the 2020 campaign that they actually set up in washington around the d.c.

area instead of having it at trump tower this time, they're probably very worried because trump has not showed any sign that he's broadened his coalition. the midterm results where democrats gained a number of seats in pennsylvania, they did well in michigan, ohio, wisconsin. those are warning signs for trump as well because those were states that hillary clinton ignored and he used to great advantage to win in 2016. so the fact that his approval rating is so low and that democrats feel very energetic in those swing states, i think, democrats feel like they have to obviously make a good choice about who they pick in 2020 to go against trump. >> for now, we're talking about nancy pelosi. i want to ask you about that. you've got the resistance here, but there's also a kind of game of deal or no deal when it comes to the democrats hoping to cut a

deal with her in exchange for their votes. what are we looking at, length of time for her, other spots they're looking at, second and third spots? >> seth moulton, the congressman from massachusetts who's kind of been the leader of the rebellious band of democrats, he angered a lot of people who are anti-pelosi folks, because he said, well, maybe if they get rid of hoyer or clyburn, we'd be happy. also saying maybe if they keep pelosi for one term, that could work as well. a lot of people say that he was freelancing, that he doesn't seem to be leading this group very well. because if you just have pelosi in one term and democrats just lose the house majority because of pelosi or in part because of that, then there's no point. i think you're going to see pelosi continue to buy off

elevations definitely going to end up with about a foot. the two story this is november have been how cold it's been and how wet it's been. now behind this big storm, another shot of cold air is coming down. it's just been one after another. this is going to end up being one of our coldest novembers in a long time. yesterday we had the snowstorm ending in michigan and chicago. today it's only going to be 23 degrees. that's 21 degrees lower than normal. typically it should be in the mid 40s this time of year. that cold air is heading all the way through the deep south. tomorrow morning not only is it cold but it's also a little breezy. the windchill in atlanta tomorrow morning will be 15, louisville 13, nashville 18, roanoke, virginia, at 9. it's going to feel like

. welcome back. as we told you earlier in the show, general motors has announced it will lay off more than 14,000 workers as part of a restructuring plan. the news helped the auto makers stock climb. why is the stock actually climbing amid the bad news? >> a bit of a surprise reaction there, louis, you're right. the stock jumped about 8% when the news came out. investors are focused on what this is doing for gm's cash flow. many people are saying that restructures was overdue. we've also seen restructuring from ford this year. this is a reflection of the auto industry as a whole that has been struggling with dwindling

demands and the steel and aluminum tariffs which are helping boost costs as well. the stock is down still 16% for the year. for the market as a whole, yesterday was off in very good form, i should say, and helped boost some of the retail stocks. online stopping was up about 26% from a year ago so that helped the the likes of amazon, for example, be up about 5%, 6% in trading yesterday. generally, majors had a good day. tech sector was up 2%. but crucially hasn't recovered some of the heavy losses we saw in last week's trading, as well. >> so jomana, markets were up yesterday, but bitcoin continues to see losses, down more than 80% from last year's high. the question is, is there any hope for crypto? a lot of people with bitcoin in storage praying, hoping that it's going to make a recovery. >> it feels like a year ago we were talking about bitcoin at $20,000. now bitcoin is at $3,000.

russia off the hook for now until we've seen in the past him seem to go side with russia and the ukraine crisis, seeming to side with putin, yet there will be huge pressure from his own national security establishment to call out russia on this. >> and, of course, it's ahead of the g20 summit. >> you're talking about closely following the president comments when it comes to that, but you're watching it when it comes to china and tariffs, as well. so you've been doing some digging on that. >> that's right. we saw that "wall street journal" interview that the president the had. you read between the lines and you talk to the people we've been talking to and all the signs are -- and this is not what wall street has been expecting. the signs are for a long haul on china tariffs. what jonathan swan is told is that the president still believes in his car the tariffs work. he believes that they give negotiating leverage, certainly true, and he believes they

ultimately help the u.s. economy. very few economist agree with that, but we had look at this interview and it doesn't look like he expects any break through at the summit and a break through would be anything that would give the u.s. an excuse to pull back from the planned economic tariffs. >> so take the economists aside for a minute. is there anyone in the president's orbit who says, look, when you have the soybean farmers who are a part of your base, this could be politically bad for you come 2020. is there anybody saying that? >> there are. but there are certain things this president will not be convinced of this and is maybe at the top of the list. and you're right as they take a look at 2020.
