the gesture letting kim back into south korea to the freedom house. the president also announced that the stalled denuclearization talks would resume and he would invite the dictator to the white house. >> i would invite him right now to the white house. i just want to say that this is my honor. i didn't really expect it. we were in japan for the g20. i said, hey, i'm over here. i want to call chairman kim. we got to meet and stepping across that line is a great honor. a lot of progress has been made. a lot of friendships have been made. tremendous positivity. really great things have been happening in a lot of places. we met and we like each other from day one. that was very important. >> it is my honor and the chairman's honor to say we work

what has been the overall reaction to this? >> i guess it is reaction from whom. it is nice you played the tweet from mitt romney. some question whether president trump has more of an a finity for dictators than allies. that has been a question. he seemed to show more of a willingness to engage with them and make light in some cases during his meeting with putin about the accusations that russia intervened in the election and spending as much time as he did on the border. those are all representative. reaction from some republicans and dats has not been positive.

it was said, it is like winning the super bowl when you haven't played a game yet. this is like coming before the policy win. where does this head next, jeff? >> it is a terrific point. this type of a meeting would usually be considered a reward for not only having come to the table but produced something in terms of what the united states is looking for in terms of denuclearization. the next step is a restart of talks. i think the question about that -- i was on his trip to vietnam. that some what ended without a deal because kim just couldn't come as far as united states wanted it to. i'm not sure now whether this will give him impetus to go further but the two sides will

start talking again and working towards the deal in which dauth is a goal. a new reporting on what sanders will do after stepping down as white house press secretary. those and a check on the weather when we come right back. my experience with usaa

my biggest number one was the gerrymandering case because the supreme court essentially said it presented a nonjust tishable question. the supreme courts can't even touch them because they are not allowed to. if they did, they would interfere with the entire political process. for that reason, whatever you thought gerrymandering was before, we are entering a whole new universe. now that it has been sanctioned, gerrymandering will probably explode. you'll see redrawing of political lines in party interest. >> the stage is set for a busy next term this fall. they apparently plan to tackle daca. >> that's the one.

daca is the big one. this goes back to a 2012 obama administration policy allowing children of undocumented immigrants that met certain s s specifications to stay. all bets are off once you get to the supreme court, they will look at it basically brand new and evaluate whether daca can stay or whether the trump administration can make it go. >> these daca recipients who will been in limbo, what could this mean for them? this is a year or two off. >> you bring up a point. if daca can be ended, what do you do with this summary ending

i do believe he understands me and i think i maybe understand him. >> yesterday, i had the idea maybe i'll call chairman kim and maybe he'll say hello. we didn't give him much notice but we respect each other. maybe even like each other. >> since our first meeting, we got along. we had a great kind of feeling. >> great kind of feeling there. joining us live from south korea. we've had a lot of these big meetings and this very historic meeting. what is next? what comes out of this? >> reporter: that is the golden question. we have this very warm exchange again that plays great for the cameras but people questioning whether it will lead to any policy. it puts us back to where we were about 15 months ago with the two

sides trying to broach the position. that was the reason the hanoi summit broke down because neither u.s. nor north korea wanted to make any compromise. now the fact that this appears to move forward appears to one of the side softening and president trump said maybe the u.s. would look at some kind of sanctions relief and perhaps there could be reward for steps along the way. this is playing terrifically for kim jung-un. pictures are splashed all over north korea today including images from kc tv, including images of ivanka trump meeting kim jung-un. he's able to say to his officials, his people, that he is a world leader.

he has been accepted, he has legitimacy and credibility and that could at the least benefit things in the future because it has him convincing his regime to at least entertain the idea of diplomacy. >> at his closing news conference at the g20, president trump drew the equivalence of democratically elected leaders and readers and joking about the russian interference. >> will you tell russia not to meddle in the elections. >> don't meddle in the elections. don't meddle in the elections. >> you did seem to be joking

there with the russian president, are we taking that to be wrong? and what is it with your coziness with these dictators. with the crown prince of saudi arabia, when you were asked about the death of jamal khashoggi you didn't respond. were you afraid of offending him? >> not at all. i don't really care about offending people. i thought i'd know that. i get along with everybody, except you people. i get a long with a lot of people. i have a tremendous relationship with president xi, nobody else would have the deal we have. i get along with president putin and mohammad from saudi arabia but i also get along with people who would be perceived as being

certainly if vie certainly if vice president biden were to become the nominee, these are the types of things president trump would go after. having hunter talking about his addiction history and spilling it out is a way for him and the campaign to get this information out. >> let's circle back to the g20 summit and that exchange where he joked about election interference and he said to putin, hey, don't interfere in our elections. where does this leave the topic of election interference come 2020? when it seems the president not taking russian interference seriously with every intelligence agency saying it is clear with the mueller report saying it is clear that russian

interfered in our elections? >> it is worth pointing out, this is the first time they have met since the report came out. it reups the criticism many people have had on the republican and democratic side of president trump and the findings of that report and the intelligence agencies about russia's interference. to your question, where does it leave us? it leaves people with the impression that president trump has not taken it seriously. the white house rejects that and says the president has taken it seriously and has raised the issue. he seems to be taking it lightly and addressing it. people think, all right, this is a president who certainly benefitted from russian interference in 2016 and is not saying directly to the president

welcome back, a trade negotiation breakthrough is igniting markets as u.s. and china get into trade talks. joining us live from london, good morning. how are investors processing all of this? >> a number of different ways. active investors who buy and sell stocks have been buying and pushing up prices in asia and

europe so far. one of the major markets, they saw the highest level since the end of april. clearly there, they see story. here in europe a similar set of numbers here in london and frankfurt and in paris. a lot of that has to do with the individual sectors that investors see as benefiting from a trade truce. that's things like the tech sector where you have all the semiconductor firms here in new york trading much higher this morning because of the fact they're so reliant on the trade flows between the u.s. and china in particular. huawei has been very much part of the news around that in particular because we now see that the u.s. is likely to ease some of the restrictions we have seen on sales to that company by u.s. firms. that's not a huge amount of clarity beyond that though. they won't allow any of the implications of national security to be impacted by the loosening of the restrictions.

welcome back. joining us from washington with a look at axios a.m., the cofounder of axios, mike allen. talk about the one big thing today. >> good morning. the one big thing, on the first day of july, is trump's plan for evangelicals. so as we think about what president trump needs to do in 2020, he needs to get out every last one of his voters from last time. there aren't that many places trump can go to add to them. but we're told the campaign is looking at evangelical christians as one way to maybe boost their turnout a little bit. my colleague elena treen has a report on they're hyper focusing on registering conservative catholics, mormons, hoping that's a group he can get the

heavy turnout he got last time. where polls show he has super strong support. >> i talked to the trump campaign, they're not interested in growing the base of the support, but trying to reinvigorate the supporters so what are else are they doing to get the bloc of voter? >> they're saying, where should we be going, how can you help us in reaching these voters? also we will see a lot of messaging about what president trump has done for social conservatives. notably the supreme court of course. as a way of -- as you say, re-energizing. we're told that the african-american community will be one of the targets for that message. the republican national committee doing the same thing also focusing in some key states including the honey pots like ohio. >> are they worried that they have lost some of the base, especially amongst evangelical

support? i mean, is there a sense that they may have lost some of the support? >> so president trump has done a remarkable job of holding on to his base. it seems like even sometimes maybe -- yeah, no matter how hard he tries he can't lose his supporters but here's the big x-factor and that's why this registration is so important is what if democratic turnout is goosed over what it was in 2016? what if you get as we have talked about here on the show that 100 year flood of democratic voters. then president trump needs more and so that's what this is an insurance policy about. >> they're anticipating a possible major turnout come 2020. the democratic voters can be energized. >> today marks the longest period of time the u.s. has gone without entering a recession since world war ii. so help us understand what that means potentially for the 2020 race. >> yeah, so this is amazing. so we have been in a boom in the expansion for ten years for 121

months. that breaks the record of 120 months as you see there. all through the '90s. this comes at the exact time that people are getting a little pessimistic. there are signs of worry in the markets. including just worry that it's been so long since there's been a recession. so this number is something that for president trump is something you can expect to hear him talking about. for democrats, it's daunting but one sign of that 100 year flood we're talking about some breaking news just while you have been on the air, mayor pete buttigieg has put out the fund-raising number for the second quarter. eye popping $25 million. that's about -- >> unbelievable. >> yeah. just to compare back in 2007 that's around what hillary clinton and barack obama raised when there were two people in the race. now there are 20 some people in the race and mayor pete has
