>> welcome back, stocks around the world are getting a slight bump including a conclusion of the g7 summit and looking at the decision that china is looking to strike a trade deal. how are the markets looking this morning? >> it has been a roller coaster ride. let me take it back to friday. once the tit for tat tariffs that took place. wall street closed 2.5% lower.

some of the stocks hit hardest were in tech areas. fast forward to monday morning. roughly 24 hours ago, just before the european market started trading, president trump announced china reached out and had two phone calls sunday evening to try to work and establish a dialogue. that gave markets a lot of comfort. by the end the end of the sessi yesterday, wall street actually open -- well, closed up in the green and north of 1%. still not fully recuperating the losses from friday though and again the sectors that are sensitive, basic resources, semiconductors, all rebounded. now a word of caution i need to say. we heard from the editor of one of the widely read dailies in china who said that he has no knowledge of a call having taken place between china and the u.s.

and indeed the foreign ministry said to his knowledge as well, no call has taken place. still the markets seem to be comforted and i should add that analysts like goldman sachs have said that the impact of the trade war is as much as 0.7%. >> wow. how shares of johnson & johnson that jumped yesterday after the oklahoma judge ordered them to pay over half a billion dollars -- >> explain that. i don't understand that. >> but it's all about the opioid outbreak so what is happening there? >> yeah. so the thing about markets is that oftentimes it's a case of what is priced in and what investors were looking for. part of the analyst community were actually expecting to find as big of $5 billion. most people were expecting $1 billion so when the number came in at a -- $572 million it was much lighter than analysts had anticipated. we traded up as much as 4% and today it looks as though the stock will open up 2% higher.

that's not a big national incident for this morning? >> the "1 big thing," trump's trouble. morning consult polls every single day in the swing states around the country and the results of that, the approval rating is kind of the ekg of a presidential campaign. and look at what they're finding for trump. every single battle ground state the president's approval is down from the day he took office. including by double digits in some of the ones that matter most. the ones that they pay most attention to. wisconsin, michigan, pennsylvania, all down. we has been a republican who has been active in a lot of the swing states. has access to polling and focus groups from these states and this republican says to jonathan swan if this economy falters we're a goner. very concerned about how things are looking in the suburbs and this person said that if there's

an economic downturn they're even worried about the republican senate being in play. >> so mike, to that point, and here's the interesting juxtaposition, despite suburban voters souring on trump doesn't that mean they necessarily feel good about the democratic field of candidates. >> that's right. we have seen some of the skepticism in the way that the field plays to people and one issue where republicans are hoping to capitalize on that dynamic is health care. health care is what speaker pelosi the speaker. democrats think it will be a great issue for them again. but here's the opening that the republicans see. they look at their polling, focus groups and democrats say that that they don't like what they're hearing. republicans and suburban voters, swing voters saying that even though they like obamacare, they don't necessarily like what they're hearing from democrats

about getting rid of private insurance. you have seen democrats dial that back a little bit. and that's why. >> yeah. so you mentioned wisconsin, pennsylvania, michigan as being states where things are down for republicans and trump. but nonetheless, they're still looking to other states both the republicans and the democrats. they want to flip them for 2020. which ones are the ones that both sides are looking to flip? >> yeah. so if you're trump and you have your map on fire as they say with approval rating down in every swing state what are you going to do? you're going to try to break out the wins from last time, expand your map. so alayna treene has been talking to both parties. so minnesota, which trump almost won last time, kind of surprised himself there. they're looking at that. and then the three ends, two of them out west looking at nevada, looking at new mexico, looking at new hampshire. although that's one of the ones where his approval rating is down most. democrats are doing the same thing. here's the one state to watch. here is the smart brevity out of

the segment. watch north carolina. both of the states -- both of the parties are really paying attention to that it's possible that north carolina becomes the new ohio which now is pretty red. democrats have their eye there. they're looking at arizona and a trump adviser tells us that arizona in particular could be tough for trump to hold on to. florida, both sides always pay attention to that. then the one -- the two more of the democrats are eyeing probably not for this time, but over time, as you know georgia and texas. moving more the democrat way as those states get more diverse. >> well, you're right with north carolina. a lot of the democratic candidates have been there recently. spending a lot of time there. good point, as always, mike allen. thank you. of course we be reading axios in a little bit and you can sign up at signup.axios.com. >> that does it for us. i'm ayman mohyeldin with alex witt.

"morning joe" starts now. at next year's g7 you dropped several hints about doral and hosting next year at your property. what reassurances if any can you give the american people that you're not looking to profit off the presidency? >> with doral, we have a series of magnificent buildings, we call them bungalows. they hold from 50 to 70 very luxurious rooms with magnificent rooms. we have incredible conference rooms, incredible restaurants. it's like such a natural. the ballrooms are among the biggest in florida and the best. it's brand-new. and my people wanted it. from my stand point i'm not doing to make any money. i don't want to make money. i don't care about making money. >> yeah, but how is the chocolate cake? >> well, it's a good thing he doesn't care about making money because as has been reported doral is in steep decline. the revenue is way down.
