[ cheers and applause ] >> tonight we will be sharing the stories of the five finalists for this year's cisco youth leadership award. all five set up organizations in their home countries that have impacted positively in their communities and the winner will receive $250,000 towards helping their organization grow and develop. so i want to tell you about the first finalist. priya prakash. in india, diseases like cancer and diabetes are the number one cause of death. with just one doctor for every

11,000 people, health care is an unattainable dream for millions. in 2016 priya set up health set go with the aim of improving health care in india's schools. today, health set go has impacted more than 200,000 indian children across 77 cities and it's become the country's largest health care organization for schools. [ cheers and applause ] >> i don't normally present awards but this guy means a lot to me and this award means a lot to me. this is an artist for over five decades remained so dedicated to his music, remaining unbelievably sexy and to saving the rain forest. and when i was a young man just dreaming about doing the job i get to do, i saw sting looking basically, who's this guy who's a bit nuts and talking about the rain forest? i didn't know what it was and i

wouldn't have if not for sting, when they started the rain forest fund. what is climate change and he was way ahead of us all and that's why it's an honor to welcome a very handsome man and brilliant artist who's saving the rain forest more than any of us did, sting. >> millions of acres of rainforest are lost every year. from south america and africa to southeast asia, the lungs of our planet are on fire. 30 years ago, sting and his wife trudy stiler were inspired to start the rainforest fund after learning about the devastating impact its destruction was having on the environment and the indigenous people who rely on its existence. over the last three decades,

>> thank you. i'm always a little reticent to receive awards that lie outside of the field i normally work in. i'm a musician. so thank you, chris, for making me feel a little more comfortable, accepting acknowledgment from a peer in my own industry. thank you. however, i am a citizen. a citizen of my country, the united kingdom. i'm also, as of this moment, still a citizen of the european union. [ applause ] as well as being a global citizen. as a citizen, of course, i'm honored to receive this award and the opportunity to admit whatever successes, whatever battles we've managed to win in the struggle to save our planet, we may well be losing the war. i was humbled recently by the words of greta thunberg as she addressed the united nations on

the issue of climate change. [ applause ] where on behalf of her generation she rightfully pointed the finger at mine. that whatever we've done, whatever we've tried to accomplish in the struggle, we have not done enough. and so i accept this award with the same humility that i would feel as a schoolboy reading my end of term report card. invariably, it would say the same thing. has worked well, but could do better. thank you, global citizens. thank you, chris. her platform coordinates communities providing realtime flood maps from crowdsourced reporting and the government. each year flooding causes an estimated $321 million of damages to jakarta's economy and nashin's hope is to introduce the technology to more cities around indonesia to advance environmental justice and to save lives. the second finalist is nashin mahtani. still to come, the winner of the 2019 global citizen world leader award. and an exclusive performance from sting and h.e.r.

leader award. the eldest of five daughters born to a veterinarian from nigeria and a nurse from liverpool. amina muhammad's life has been nothing short of extraordinary. her passion for education took her from a small primary school on the banks of lake chad to england. after working in the private sector she went on to serve three nigerian presidents, worked with u.n. secretary-general ban ki moon as a special adviser, becoming an instrumental force in development planning, and today she holds the role of deputy secretary-general of the united nations. and did i mention, she's also the mother of six. >> amina mohammed is the driving force behind an amazing road map for the world. the 17 sustainable development

90% of these are in subsaharan africa. our last cisco youth leadership award is cameroonian alain nteff. alain nteff, who founded gifted mom in 2015 with the vision of providing stand access to quality health care and financing for pregnant women across africa. over the last four years, gifted mom has helped half a million pregnant women, keeping them on track for doctor's appointments and educating them about malnutrition and other diseases they are vulnerable to during pregnancy. by expanding to other african nations, his dream is to save 15 million lives over the next ten years. >> over the last ten years, the actions of global citizens on all five continents have driven financial commitments for the world's poor of almost $50 billion. how incredible is that? yes!
