millennial voters here in new hampshire? joining me now, josi pointo with the new hampshire youth movement and youth movement. an organization that has endorsed senator sanders. and kurt pullman involved in local government in manchester and former merchant marine. thank you both for being here. when we talk about millennials, i often think people imagine young people. and while we are young enough, look at us. we're all adults here. right? driving people to the polls. this latest cnn/university of new hampshire poll found climate change are among top concerns followed closely by healthcare. >> absolutely. we have decided that our guiding issues are the green new deal, medicare for all, and free college for all because we think that those are the policies young people need to really thrive in this country. >> and is that why you are supporting senator sanders? >> definitely, yeah.
3:37 pm
he is not only the strongest but the most consistent on the issues. >> does that sound similar to your friends? >> we're in a bit of a different age spectrum than josie is. most of the people i interact with see infrastructure, healthcare -- >> when you say infrastructure, what does that mean? >> we see the benefits we could all reap if our infrastructure was upgraded and improved to enable us to commute to work easier every day. especially, in the metropolitan areas. >> senator sanders did very well four years ago with young voters. do you think he is poised to do as well this time around? >> i think so. and i think there is a lot of young people who have now come of age that were really big fans of bernie. but might have been in high school. and so i'm really excited to see what youth voter turnout rates are going to be like in new hampshire. probably pretty high. >> so when you are trying to persuade someone to vote for sanders, who is it often they have their eye on? >> some others i have heard is
3:38 pm
definitely warren has pretty good ground game here in new hampshire. and i've heard a bit of buttigieg and yang. but overall, bernie tends to be the candidate people move towards. >> i was in iowa talking with young latinos that the sanders campaign was organizing and one of the things i heard from them very consistently is we love that he's been saying the same thing for the entirety of his career. and that consistency, that authenticity was a big part of the selling for them. is -- is this a voting block that is focused on issues? or is it focused on electability? that's sort of been the core question that we have been asking today. >> yeah. it's a good one. >> yeah. i think that electability is only relevant to each individual person. so if you think that someone should be the candidate, then you should vote for him. i don't think your vote should be based on who you think other people will vote for. and i think, yeah, when politicians aren't that trustworthy overall, bernie sanders saying the same thing
3:39 pm
since before i was born is really compelling to me because i think he really means what he says. and i think he is the reason why so many of these issues are now popular in 2020 because he made them popular in 2016. >> kurt, you are one of these mythical, undecided, going to wait to the last minute to walk into that polling place voters that i have spent the last few hours talking act. >> yeah. >> come on. it's time. so what is told you up? >> i think there's just so many candidates still in the race right now that honestly it's a little hard for myself to feel well educated enough to make a confident decision. >> what would it take for you to feel well educated? >> a lot more time and research really is what it takes for me. >> you understand that there are those of us like we have watched eight debates. we have been in this for what feels like the better part of two years. note enough time?
3:40 pm
do you have it at least win knowwinnowed to at least a few candidates? >> not fully there yet. >> we were talking in the earlier clock about how much of the decision in these final days comes down to direct interaction with some of these candidates hitting the dunkin' donuts very hard. meeting voters. have you met any of these candidates? >> yeah i went to trivia night last weekend. tulsi gabbard was one of the hosts. >> did that make you feel more informed about her candidacy? >> definitely did. i have a chance to have a conversation with her but putting faces to names and face to face interactions are really cool. >> so for you, having a candidate you are fully committed to, how do you then take someone who says i am holding out and persuade them that your guy is the guy? >> well, i know that you care a lot about affordable housing and bernie sanders actually has a homes guarantee. he believes every single person in this country should have a home. i know that's an issue you care about just from our brief conversation. but i think i'd want to get to
3:41 pm
know you more and what issues you care about. like you said, it's really about the issues and i really like to educate people. have a voter scorecard i would be happy to share with you. bernie just came out strongest on all three of our issues. >> you look terribly uncomfortable. so i -- i -- i apologize to you for the hard sell. but thank you both so much. josie pinto and kurt pullman, i appreciate your time and your perspective. that wraps it up for this hour. i'll be back tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. eastern, live from manchester. we continue our special coverage of the primary here in new hampshire throughout the weekend. hardball with chris matthews is next. we made usaa insurance for members like kate. a former army medic, made of the flexibility to handle whatever monday has in store and tackle four things at once.
