announcement today. the companies themselves have declined to comment but you may also recall that postmates was meant to chase the i.p.o. this year so this is a fairly aggressive move to pre-empt that. also uber missed out on grub hub recently so it's a move to get in on the deal on the consolidation of food delivery, which is in high demand around coronavirus. >> thank you, karen. up next a look at axios' one big thing. and on "morning joe," more on president trump's address to the nation over the fourth of the july weekend. also dr. richard besser weighs in as cases of the coronavirus skyrocket across the country. go ga gathers over the weekend, in south dakota and again in washington. what example is that? >> in terms of the gatherings themselves, a lot of them were cancelled here in arkansas, fourth of july celebrations, just trying to minimize that exposure. when you look at a national level, i think it's good we celebrate our independence, it's a controlled environment, it was outside at mount rushmore. i think it inspired many, obviously i would have liked to see more face coverings there. >> there was no social distancing in south dakota there were thousands of people there sitting absolutely crowded in and no face coverings as well. >> they should have been face coverings. they should have followed guidelines there. that's republican governor hutchinson of arkansas saying there should have been face cofferings at president trump's

mount rushmore event late last week. joining me now with a look at axios a.m., alexi mccammond. good morning. >> happy monday, alicia. today's one big thing is john bolton, the former national security advisor, while most of us have kind of moved on from his memoir, "the room where it happened" various officials have fixated on details brought up in that book. this matters because the revelations in the book behind the scenes in the oval office is raising the blood pressure of our allies around the world who are already kind of worried about president trump's reliability to begin with. so we've seen in interviews and heard from directly leaders in venezuela, south korea, and
2:57 am
european officials who are nervous about the things that john bolton raised in his book. and the bottom line is that while these folks may have had their assumptions about president trump or thoughts of what was going on behind the scenes, it's different when the suspicious suspicions are confirmed by someone as senior as john bolton in this book. >> we saw the president delivering dark, divisive remarks this weekend. what are you hearing from the biden campaign about how the former vice president plans to campaign and what his message is going to be during the pandemic? >> axios learned that joe biden is taking a different route, rather than just doing virtual events they're mobilizing celebrities on instagram, we're told at times with biden himself to host live 20 minute

conversations on ina gram's platform to get younger people on the pages. we would expect musical celebrities as well hosting the conversations about different issues that they care about with the campaign again as a voter outreach program where the biden campaign is trying to reach the young voters where they are, during a global pandemic where we're stuck at home but using social media more than ever. >> on coronavirus i want to ask you for a fact check. do the president's claims of more cases being the result of more testing hold up? >> no, those claims do not hold up. according to our reporting at axios, the president said that the number of confirmed cases are getting higher because the testing is getting higher. but when you look at the numbers in places like new york and d.c. where testing has increased for the coronavirus, the number of confirmed cases has not

increased. but if you look at southern states like florida, texas, arizona, testing isn't actually increasing in those cases. so the president's claims about testing are debunked by the numbers we're seeing play out across the country. alexi, great to see you. thank you. >> thanks. i'm going to be reading axios a.m. in just a little while. you can sign up at signup.axios.com. i will see new a second on "morning joe," which starts right now. that's right, we will see you in just a moment. thank you very much. good morning, welcome to "morning joe," it's monday, july 6th i'm willie geist. with us we have reporter jonathan lemire. former aid to the george w. bush white house alease jordan.
