"hitler dead". i think this would have been on may 1st, 1945. hitler killed himself april 30th, 1945, the news breaking in the paper. but, this shows the four u.s. gis reading all about it in stars and stripes. here is another one. this one is from not very much later. this is from may 8th, 1945.

the day after the successor to a recently dead adolph hitler signed the surrender of nazi. they're holding looks like pots and pans. they got the "nazis quit" in one page and all three of them are wearing an ear to ear grin. here is another shot from three months later, japan surrenders as well. the headline was even larger, that day was "peace." the woman on the left, her name was johnny dexter and the man in the middle, the gi is robert ingram. japan surrendered and the war is over. here is another great one, 1952,

congresswoman introduced this bill. for some people it meant the world. it was a bill to designate the facility of united states postal service as the lieutenant kenneth ballard. the bill passed and it was signed into law by president obama in 2013. residents go mail a card or a post-game or a ballo payment or a ballot, it goes to the post office at lieutenant kenneth m. ballard. he was killed in iraq. at the time he was over a week from leaving iraq. he was just shy turning 27. his mother got the call before 9:00 a.m. with the news that her only child would not be coming home. lieutenant kenneth ballard was ordered a purple heart and three bronze stars. his mother set up a website to

reports, and what the president said about american troops and specifically of those who are killed in battle. what was your reaction? >> i was not surprise because it does seem to be a pattern going back to even before trump announced running for president. but, it is always kind of a pinprick to the hart that gist kind of pulling the scab off. for me after 16 years you would think i would be pretty used to it. those are harsh words coming my son's commander in chief, that he's a sucker or a loser. i don't feel that way and none of the parents who did the video feel that way. >> can i ask you how the video came together?

there must have been collusion and with other gold star families and because that ad was turned around and you must have known it in advance. can you speak to it at all. >> yesterday afternoon, right after this story was published. i was notified that the story was going to be pretty big. so they ask if i could gather our group of gold star families th that i have worked with. i have been working at the polls for five years. we are ready to support the organization and we are all progressive and support veteran organizations. some of us worked on it all night. that's why we were able to get it out as quickly as we did.

after nato held its emergency meeting on the assassination attempt against russia's main opposition leader aleksi navalny today, president trump was asked for his reaction. >> we haven't had any proof yet, but i will take a look. it is interesting that everybody is always mentioning russia. i don't mind you mentioning russia, but i think probably china at this point is a nation that you should be talking about much more so than russia because the things that china is doing are far worse. >> to be clear, nobody thinks that china tried to assassinate their main opposition in russia.
