strategy which is operative half the time. and the other half the time they have a strategy that's bad. you hit the nail on the head. when he starts regurgitating a list of grievances and starts talking about tony or whoever this person is. people who only watch fox or worse. or the some of the people watching us now don't even know exist. so it's strange. and joe biden was smart and saying this came from rudy. the extent people on both side did know about it, they knew it came from rudy in the crazy way. donald trump the first debate you couldn't hear anything. last night you could hear everything. i'm not sure that was in trumps favor. a debate at its core should only be the largest audience that

you're talking about to. not the moment where you are just trying to find a message that you are trying everything. what joe biden did last night is that he spoke for 90 minutes or his part of 90 minutes saying what he says every day. he said it yesterday whether he was in a rally or debate or tomorrow at a speech. it's consistent. you have whatever 50, 60 maybe more million people watching. it's an opportunity. the flip side is trump hasn't known what he's been saying and doesn't know why he's running. he has a one speed where it's anger. and what he is not -- i don't know whether he appreciates it. whatever happened four years ago happened. we can debate about it all night. he has enough people looking at it who are just see it for what it is. a failed experiment. to the cinematic universe.

it's not just the 5050 or 60/40 world. a trump supporter or republican that doesn't like trump and hates democrats even more. there's got to be an element to 70, 80% of society just so tired of this. it's just so draining. emotionally. it's draining to be upset. draining to fight. even if you are fighting on behalf of trump. and i think last night gives us sort of renewed glimpses of enough already. enough. and the reason he starts saying stuff about taking our windows away which i'm not letting anybody take my windows. the reason is because you're just grasping at straws to make this person someone that you fear. i was watching tv today and there were two back to back ads and biden had a great ad. it was a woman who voted for trump four years ago. and didn't like the system.

ours. latino voters and families that live -- think if those were white kids, american kid. would we be talking about this? the message of last night is very strong among latino voters. the strongest message should be around the white evangelical base that fuels trump. people who think he's a pro-life candidate and someone who cares about family values. and he's someone that cares about children. when they see that, what do they think about? >> chief, those were the two lies i think that were the most sering. that and the lie about black lives matter. which got under my skin a lot. donald trump also tried to portray himself as law and order guy. by boyden had cruelty in his policy and attitudes toward

black people. i want to read something that trump wrote in -- had written for him. a book he published in the year 2000. trying to run for president. the america we deserve. here's what he wrote. the perpetrator is never a victim. this was in the 1990s. he's nothing more than a predator. a life is a life. if you criminally take an innocent life you better be prepared to forfeit your own. the rest of us need to rethink prison and punishment. the next time you hear someone saying this are too many people in prison ask how many thugs they are willing to relocate to their neighborhood. the central park 5 and etc. what do you make of the message and how it playing among law enforcement families. >> everybody wants to make sure we have safe neighborhoods and there is an element of police service to all people.

what people are mostly concerned about is making sure it's not unfairly impacting any certain group. i think that most of the discussion that i have heard around black lives matter, and law and order. making sure law enforcement and the people who are engaged in the police service are being fair and ethical and just. that is what the discussion is. can we have fair and effective policing or do we need to redistribute resources or funding and some way so that communities are safe and feel safe and have confidence in the fact they'll be equally protected under the law. i think that is the most pressing issue. it's not really a partisan issue as much as it is a safety issue. and i think that vice president biden, he did promote the 1994 crime bill. however, he is even said if he could go back and revisit it he would make changes.

in hindsight we recognize there's more to be done. filling prisons with black and brown is not the way to provide public safety. >> i want to note in terms of who is being arrested for thug ri. we see another bug lieu boy arrested for rioting during the george floyd unrest. burning a police precinct. 26 year-old hunter. black and brown voters are sort of always sort of spotlighted as the voters that black voters are seen as die hard democrats. black women will come out and vote. brown voters are slight will different. the question of the youth. the average age is younger. than most americans. therefore they vote like younger people at lower numbers.

do you see the issues of law and order and attacks on brown folks changing the dynamic in terms of turn out for brown voters? >> i think yesterday something really important happened. that young latinos needed to hear. an apology. we mentioned joe biden said it was a mistake to support the 1994 crime bill. and apologized for deporting 3 million immigrants. that apology, that recognition they did something wrong. they harmed a lot of families. that is very important. young voters are already voting. numbers indicate that. in order for people to be inspired and believe in change and promises will be kept, it starts with a word that people needed to hear. we did something wrong and want to make it better. yesterday that was a very big moment. >> yeah. i want to thank you both. i used to work with your mom. she's amazing. it's cool to see you as an
