communities, latino voters, asian-american voters, and so on. as you mentioned this is extremely cary. because we are in a census and once we get that data back every single u.s. congressional seat will potential i will be redrawn. and that redrawing of those boundaries creates a situation where politicians choose their voters instead of the other way around. >> which is not what democracy is supposed to be about. how does democracy survive one of the two parties in a two-party system have given up on democracy, truth, basic facts, a shared reality, and whole heartedly embraced

conspiries. >> the good news is that our democracy has been very deeply flawed from the beginning and even right now in it's current structure with the senate you have millions upon millions upon millions of represented by democrats in the senate but democrats and republicans pretty much are, you know, we're 50/50 in the senate. not only that but just like with the electoral college, the possibility of and frankly the reality of minority rule in the senate. it's inherently undemocratic. the electoral college is inherently undemocratic institution born ofur country was first being established. and so the good news is that there is a lot of room for improvement. but this will require a degree

europe? seeing that it is closer to poland and hundred gary. would you extend that f-word to the wider republican party that we're seeing in front of us? >> i do think that tendency, and we certainly saw a lot of fascist sympathizing, but american white supremacy is very different and unique to just the kind of, you know, comparisons to fascism. white supremacy is is a power relationship. i would argue that that is a larger, you know, that more largely informs the current power structures and struggles with democracy that we currently have. i think that is a streak of

imagination. we have limited details but we know members of congress are being included in the initial inquiries and investigations for who was part of this attack. who collaborated and potentially work with these insurrectionists. we know how violent their plans were, including speculation about trying to gas the under ground tunnels and basements. it is extraordinarily serious and not to mention the fact that there are members of congress that are extremely dangerous. they talked about and tried to sneak firearms on to the floor of the house. to the point where now every member of congress has to go through a metal detector to exercise our right and our community's right to vote on

president biden's $1.9 trillion covid relief bill passed in the house. two democrats joined them. the bill goes to the senate next. right now the minimum wage increased to $15 is in the bill but it is being blocked in the upper chamber. democrats want it to become law by march 5th that's when jobless benefits expire once again. congresswoman, a $1.9 trillion relief bill from the biden administration. they said the $15 minimum wage cannot be in the bill under the rules of budget reconciliation. your fellow house democrat is saying that democrats should just override the

parliamentarian. your own squad more is saying fire the parliamentarian. do you agree with either of them and if not what do you think needs to happen now to get that $15 minimum wage passed? >> i think we should override the senate parliamentarian. i think this is a matter of course and that our subsequents and people across this country put democrats in power to, among other things, establish a $15 minimum wage. we have a responsibility to do that. do i not believe that, you know, the parliamentarians ruling should be really an obstacle to that. and i don't believe that we should be really tied up about this. override the parliamentarians or eliminate the filibusters. that's the only two paths that we have to create substantive change in the united states and that's what people across the

country sent us here to do. we should have our number one priority to be on delivering and making good on the promises that we made and not allowing these procedural obstacles, that can be overriden, to get in our way. >> one of the big blocks is democratic senators that say $11 is enough for his state of west virginia. manchin attacked you and the squad in the past denouncing whats your crazy socialist agenda. but many of them spot you on the minimum wage and not him. what's your message to joe manchin tonight? listen, i think that if any, not just senator manchin but any person that thinks that a $15

minimum wage is a crazy socialist agenda is living in a distaupian nightmare. people are sleeping in their cars and they can't afford baby formula. they can't afford basic goods on $7.25. it is deeply shameful that we're having this conversation. when you take the minimum wage from several decades ago and you account for inflation and productivity gains today it should be $24. we need other democrats to understand how deep of a compromise $15 an hour is. and this bill has a multi-year phase in as well. even if we pass this to progressives discontent, by the way, we're talking about a multiyear phase in which will really chip away even more.

so $15 for, as you mentioned, his own constituents, it almost -- every pocket of this country you cannot afford rent if you're making minimum wage. and in the united states of america you should, you know, if you're working a full-time job you should be able to live. by the way when we keep a minimum wage artificially low it's at a huge cost to our government and taxpayers as well because there is enormous subsidies in the form of us paying for social safety net programs that would not be necessary if people were paid the living wage to begin with. >> so you're clearly spot on when it comes to the economic analysis, but what about the politics of it. what if people say if you prk him too much they will just

defect. well, you know, i do not believe that given manchin's long tenure in the senate that that is something he would personally do, but at the same time i think it is important to recognize that in states that republicans won, a $15 minimum wage has also passed or in state that's have elected democratics a $15 minimum wage for those that have run. look at florida where a wage provision outperformed nearly everyone on the ballot. so it's extremely important that we understand this is not a partisan issue. it is supported by many republican voters, by democrats, by people with no party affiliation. and when we have the discussions about partisan ship and bipartisanship, it should be

back in 2018 i was in a green room with jamal khashoggi. we were joking about he is security because the crown prince was in town and he was a the saudi consulate in ins tanble while trying to seek a license to marry his fiancee. on friday the biden administration finally released an intelligence report confirming mbs was responsible for his murder. writing in part, the heinous crime against a permanent u.s. resident should not go unpunished. mbs ought to be banned from travel to the united states and subjected to an asset freeze. adding that president biden has chosen not to pursue that course suggests the fundamental change he promised in u.s.-saudi relations will not hold into account its reckless ruler.
