but there is a dark side to sin city and sadly, the beautiful cocktail witches became its victim. cases like this one, the husband is often a suspect, but the crime scene was telling investigators something else, and they got a hot tip, like so many things in vegas, nothing was as it seems. here's keith morrison with under a full moon. >> she was finished now, tired, run out, as she walked away from the chirping machine and the jury eyes of the gamblers, who called out for her, again and again. outside in the night, the full moon bathe the houses and lights of sin, and unaccustomed shade of pale. in september 29th, 2012, ida pressley 3:00 in the mormon, in the back of pomp casino, a

cocktail which is named shauna tiaffay instituted her time card in a stabbing machine and set up for the break room. shauna had parked her car in the back plot, a practice discouraged because surveillance cameras were unable to track her all the way to the car. still, it is easier this way, quicker. after all, will a stop or really wait for her here, under a full moon? >> it was absolutely horrible. we felt so helpless. >> it is every woman's worst nightmare. >> we did not know if any of us were next. >> it never occurred to shauna to become a cocktail which is when she moved to vegas as a 20 something-year-old in the 90s. which he wanted and was to be closer to family, meaning big sister paula. >> she regionally thought, there's no way i could be a cocktail which is, i don't even drink. >> but in a casino town, a cocktail which could make good money, so now at 46, she was a veteran.

complicated life, but with georgia's 24 hour shifts and shauna nighttime at the casino, -- then, it was september 29th, 2012, 3 am. she walked on tour and the lot. pointed away from the strip. under that full moon, she had no idea what was waiting for her. it was 9 am when george arrived with her daughter. she spent her night -- here at the firehouse. but why was the garage door open? was that inside? george had grown accustomed to trauma and death, but this? >> i think i need to report a break-in and a murder. >> it was a chilling discovery. shauna tiaffay found be into death inside her home and then some of shauna personal items found outside the house. what might they reveal? coming up --

considered as possible suspected to. so detectives pulled him aside and interviewed him on the spot. >> georgia, do you understand the statements being recorded? >> understand. >> you understand what we want to talk to you about what happened this morning? >> yes sir. >> judge told the detectives that when he saw the garage door, he had their daughter hang back while he went inside. >> i saw shauna's feet, just lying, they're frozen looking. and in my job, i know what that means. >> okay, are you a paramedic? >> i am an empty eye firefighter. >> their daughter, thank, god did not see anything except george. he rushed route to the street. >> i don't know if there was somebody there. i just wanted to get out of there with my daughter. >> he had taken the little girl to shauna's place because it was her turn. >> because we are currently separated, and we are planning on moving back in together as we started getting along again. >> and meanwhile, they have this complicated arrangement. shauna worked 7 pm to 3 am at

the casino, george, as a firefighter, worked long shifts and got lots of days off. >> mama will be happy? >> third daughter shuttled back and forth between them. and when they were both at work, the girl spent nights with georgia's mother. >> okay, what shift did you work yesterday? >> a 24-hour shift. >> so he was at work when shauna was killed. of course, they just some checking just to be. sure >> he was there on every run. he hadn't left for any reason. >> but he was on every run. did not leave work at all. so, not a husband this time. >> he had nothing to do with the attack of shauna. >> but george did offer a possible lead. >> the garage door was open. which is unusual. so we were worried because, my wife's house got broken into a week or two ago. >> the thief in that earlier burglary, it appeared, new host

sean's bathroom to take a shower, and left with several pairs of shawn's panties and jewelry. he left behind a pair of boxer shorts that were small. back, then shawn a mediately suspected some neighborhood teens, said george. >> so she had discussed it with several people, including george, and decided that maybe, she left something unlocked and it could be some kids that live in the neighborhood. >> so, is that who killed her? looking around the crime scene, the detectives realize that china's killer or killers had been into her booze, had taken not just her purse, but like in that earlier burglary, her underwear. so they said about checking every one of the neighborhood boys and they had solid alibis, all of them. >> they were not involved in the break-in, they were not involved in sean's death. now things get even more scary.

a lot of alcohol, and was volatile. >> according to big will, this greyhound total lot of tall tales. but will called police this time because greyhound bragged about killing someone, a woman. and said that he used a hammer to do it. >> and we had just come from autopsy that morning, mark said we were seeing on her body, we thought it was possibly hammer. so no one knew a but the two of us. >> when it guy brings it up it's -- >> exactly. >> a homeless, drug addicted ex-con with a volatile temper, said big will. certainly seem to fit the profile of a potential predator, detectives were looking for. >> he told us that greyhound walks everywhere, he lives out in the desert. >> big will wanted to help, he, said so he agreed to take them to some of the places we thought greyhound like to hang out. and what do you know? they ran into him in the

parking lot of a gas station. detective long approached him. sweet as pie, great hound was, he said he would be glad to go to the station, have a chat, his real name was noel stevens. what did you tell you? >> he knows shauna, he knew where they lived, he did yard work and handyman work for george and everyone else in the neighborhood. >> so someone shauna new. someone george the do-gooder wanted to help. but greyhound, or noel, was adamant that he had nothing to do with shauna's murder. then he agreed to show detectives his campsite out in the desert. >> what did you find? >> swimsuit bottoms that in our search of shawn's house appeared to be the one that match the top that i had seen in her bedroom. >> so greyhound was the burglar poking around in sean's

personal things, and in fact, her friends had recalled that she had grown uncomfortable with this charity case we did work around the house. >> she did mondale in the house anymore and she said, you better get out of this house or i'm calling the police on you. >> so was he the killer? out of the campsite, detectives did not find any evidence linking him to the murder. so, they kept looking. >> one of the other things that big will told us was that noel stevens had a campsite number two, and a campsite number. to >> a second campsite, out there, somewhere. but where? and what, if anything, was hidden there? >> coming up. >> in the bush, he saw a pair of jeans. it appeared to have blood on them. >> when dateline continues. appeared to have blood your by to unblock your gut.

tropical storm colin has been downgraded to a tropical depression overnight. this comes after tropical storm warnings were initially issued for parts of both south and north carolina on saturday. forecasters expect heavy rainfall and localized areas of flash flooding over the holiday weekend, at the colin formed near the south carolina coast. this storm could still bring downpours, but it is expected to weaken or completely dissipated by sunday night into monday morning. now, back to dateline. dissipated by sunday night int monday m it's not on any sightseeing itinerary, but this too is las vegas, rugged, desert terrain that is a refuge or hiding place for the desperate and troubled. >> believe it or not, the whole area has homeless people up there. >> this is where greyhound took them. this is where he live, he said. out there, somewhere, they were

convinced that there must be a second campsite, possible evidence about the killing of shauna tiaffay, so detective miller won up with the police air unit to have a look around. >> those two pilots decided they were going to fly that whole area for us, and they actually located the second campsite. >> we entered and found a citation in the name of noel stephens. we were at the right place. >> so they spread out, kept looking, and pretty soon, one of them called out. >> about 175 feet from the tenth, he found a bush, and under the bush, he saw a pair of rolled up denim jeans that appeared to him that had blood on it. we put those in for immediate dna testing. it was shauna tiaffay blood, and pants were worn by noel stevens. >> that's kind of your story there, how? >> that's kind of our story. >> proof that handyman noel

stevens was a murder. could the story be that simple? >> listen to shawn's sister paula for example, and things start to sound a bit more complex. >> i just think that he always loved himself more than he loved anyone else, and it was all about him and what he wanted. >> that was george that she was talking about, the selfless firefighter had another side, so paula. >> the verbal intimidation, the control, georgia is always a controlling guy. >> hold the camera in your hand, push it away from us. >> according to paula, george had become ever more controlling and judgmental, especially about shauna's spending habits. it only got worse when shauna told george that the marriage was over. >> he said, if you don't come back to me, and we can solve this out, you will lose custody of your daughter.

and fumed. >> they had not even lowered her in the ground yet, and he said, come on and took her hand, it's time to go. i watched him walk off with my little niece, eight years old, just lost their mom, and i watched him walk off with her, and i thought, this is exactly what he wanted. he wanted all the control over money's. >> paula told the police her suspicions, even before they began chasing down leads on greyhound. even though they had a killer, the idea that george was involved somehow was already in the back of their minds. on the other hand, georgia's family was just as eager to ensure the police that those attacks on georgia's character from sean aside were complete nonsense. >> i never saw shauna act cowed or afraid of my brother. she had an equal footing in the way they interact with one another.
