the clash of civilization. a politician cannot be racist. >> viktor orban was accused of pure nazi rhetoric with one of his own aides but that did not stop him from receiving the red carpet treatment by republicans at cpac. >> the russian trial ended just as everyone knew it would, with a barbaric sentence for brittney griner. how soochb before a deal gets done to bring her home. breaking news in the alex jones defamation trial. the jury has rushed a verdict on compensatory damages. we begin with a future the republicans want. it kicked off in dallas with a keynote speech if you didn't know any better could have easily just been delivered by ron desantis or donald trump. just take a listen. >> i am an old-fashioned freedom fighter.
4:02 pm
politics, my friend, are not enough. this war is a war. we were the first ones in europe who said no to illegal migration and stopped the invasion of illegal migrants. we have to build not just a physical wall on our borders but a legal wall around our children to protect them from the gender ideology. to sum up, the mother is a woman, the father is a man and leave our kids alone. full stop. end of discussion. >> actually, that man received a standing ovation for bashing the culture war, same-sex marriage, viktor orban. he's the current idol of the antidemocracy right. the new vladimir putin.
4:03 pm
american conservatives should join forces with him. he said europeans should not become peoples of mixed race leading a long-time adviser to resign. those comments were obviously not too racist for cpac organizers since they followed through with their invite giving orban an hour to spout demagogery why they see him as a model of success relying entirely on appeals of racism. naturally the twice impeached former president welcomed him at his new jersey resort. a place for the world's worst leaders. it was great spending time with my friend. in fact, in a 2018 speech former trump adviser called orban trump before trump. the reality is viktor orban is a
4:04 pm
right wing dream for the republicans trying to destroy society. he's the continent's biggest proponent of white invasion theory. the biggest promoter of the organization of the republican party is tucker carlson. he took his show on the road to hungary for an entire week touting it as a bike con for america. >> small country with a lot of lessons for the rest of us. one last thing, because the example of hungary is so powerful, not just in europe but to the world, to the entire world, not simply the west, what you can do with a relatively small economy and not many people if you're serious about keeping your nation from being destroyed. >> in case you have any doubt that right wingers are fully on board with orban's theory. look at this.

>> we have seen what kind of future the globalist ruling class has to offer. the globalists can all go to hell, i have come to texas. >> my pam is joining us tonight. professor shepley, i am going to start with you. i know your expertise is hungary and this sort of ultra nationalist, christian nationalist movement there. this guy, orban, has been around for quite some time. he had some things to say about president obama. it does seem to me that he is the foremost promoter of christian nationalism and anti-migrant paranoia in europe. would i be right about that? >> yes, you absolutely would. so in the migrant crisis of 2015
4:06 pm
when more than a million people came from syria, iraq, so forth seeking safety in europe, orban was the one who built a wall. built a wall before trump built a wall, who pushed people back across that wall. he separated kids and parents. the thing that he did actually in 2015 was exactly what trump went on do later. so he has been exactly a model for republican efforts to deal with the border, and i might say that one of the shocking things about his speech today, here is a foreign leader of an allied country who has come to the u.s. to meet at the convention of the opposition party, and one of the things he said was we must coordinate the movement of our troops because we face the same challenge. he's recruiting the republican party to work with hungary, which is not something the leader of an ally party typically does. >> let me ask you this. what is the bridge between, as you said, the policies match
4:07 pm
identically, even the white replacement theory matches with tucker carlson. we know the bridge with tucker carlson and tucker carlson's father, i believe make some money off of him. he's got this -- his father, i believe, there it is, his father had -- his father richard carlson is a director of a washington firm who has lobbied orban. how did that feeding tube get orban's ideas into trump or did it? >> well, first the connection with tucker carlson is interesting because the hungarian government paid tucker carlson's father to make the introductions to tucker carlson and then they paid tucker carlson to go to hungary that week. cpac, one of the sponsors is the fundamental party for hungary. there are lots of ties between the trump circle and the orban
4:08 pm
circle. steve bap nonis one of them. he not only called orban trump before trump, he created both of them in lots of ways. even before that, orban's big electoral victory in 2010 was engineered by a pair of republican master minds. there are a lot of connections. i suspect you may remember sebastian gorka who showed up at the trump inaugural ball. he wore not the neonazi uniform but the original nazi uniform of his father. eventually he got thrown out of the white house. he still has been happening out of trump's circle. there are a lot of ties between the orban people and the trump people and this is a very deep and wide set of coaxes. >> rula, it is lit ramally -- it's easily -- it's obviously

more convenient in some sense to organize the party rather than putinize it. what he's doing it's so objectionable and they can't continue with this adoration of putin but orban is new for the followers. they have clung on to him. what do you make with the connection between orban and the republican party? >> orban talked in 2018 about the access of the willing. orban, trump, sevine in italy, the fascists overseas. common values, antiimmigration, trying to use the powers and tools of democracy to try to destroy it from within. i believe the former speaker said the way they come to pewer is through laws. the way they hold on to power is through laws, not bullets, bombs.
4:10 pm
this moment putin is destroying ukraine, bombing ukraine. he is the one that gave them the tools, disinformation. the white supremist theory wherks talked about the access of the willing, one flapped new zealand. he cited victor orban, he cited donald trump in his manifest oh. he had a local candidate. he went on a shooting spree. he shot six people of color. he shot against the headquarter of the democratic party. immediately after people start blaming immigrants. we are seeing now as we speak as we have elections all over europe, especially in italy in two months, viktor orban led to an attack in northern italy where a black man was killed.
4:11 pm
not only this, we've seen how putin and others, the fort in libya. we have seen a rising of migrants who arrive in italy. why? because he understands how to organize migration propaganda, oil, gas, food, grain and other things to dismantle democracy. he's aiding and abetting in it. the republican party is ripe and sort of over this. do you think -- i see it as the most organization in somebody like desantis who has a propaganda school that he's sending to teachers in the summer where they teach them

jefferson post slavery and don't forget to remember what he made. they were prosecuting people and he's pushing a version of white replacement theory. you can't say anything about racism at the workplace. you have to create a white nationalist environment yifr where or what else. he said that the press and the united states will report tomorrow. their racist didn't -- who condemns a mixed race society and say, oh, but i'm a christian, but the through line

is both the telecoming out because there is tho question the conservative movement has replaced the great replacement theory. they embraced and cheered a man who said in his remarks today that the battle lines for western civilization will be fought in 2024 and western europe. this is a movement that says the integration of brown and black people is wrong. elevate and embrace that. the same movement that embraced viktor orban is the one that is giving currency and fuel to ron desantis, to donald trump and to

4:38 pm
phase that will take part tomorrow is the answer to your question, joy, because the $4 million in damages today, those are compensatory damages. that means that if the families prove up losses, for instance, the need to move, the need to have security, much of the medical care, mental health care that they needed after that, they actually proved that financial amount of damages and they're compensated. tomorrow the punitive damages, that's about something different where today was about compensating victims. tomorrow is about punishing the defendant and it's tough to imagine a defendant who is more richly deserving of punishment than mr. jones. >> thank you for explaining this. a lot of us saw the 4 million and went, what? that makes more sense. jones's wife whose name is kelly, she has tweeted about the subpoenas and the texts and she said they will definitely subpoena this info, another
