into electoral victories. plus, merrick garland takes action against donald trump. i'm republican lies about the fbi, they're feeling political violence. let's get started. it's hard to overstate the massive historic month, the biden administration has had. the sheer number of legislative inform policy victories in such a short span of time is historic. this week, democrats pass the inflation reduction act, which will provide 430 billion dollars for fighting climate change. lowering prescription drug prices, and reforming the tax code to ensure corporations pay what they owe. once biden silence the i.r.a.

into law, he will have overseen 3.5 trillion dollars of his legislative agenda, since taking office. that has addressed everything from cohen ided, to repairing roads, ensuring broadband, and so much more. another part of that the president just signed a bill to expand the microchip industry here in the u.s. and that is a 280 billion dollar investment and ate another bill to provide care and resources to 3.5 million veterans exposed to toxic burn pits. also, last week, biden scored a major foreign policy victory, with a u.s. conducted drone strike, killed in al-qaeda leader. -- detailing what i did last

summer, it would include, the single greatest expansion, of gun control protections in america, in decades. which passed congress in june. that included enhanced background checks, and a federal grant program -- and a federal statute, banning gun trafficking. a president did all of this, with razor thin margins in both the house of the senate. with all the successes under their, about the question, is turning to how biden and the democrats can, or if they will, seldom to the american people. joining me now, is democratic congresswoman, barboli -- barbara lee from california. what's really inflation reduction act mean for your constituents? >> nice to be with you charles,
3:05 am
thanks for laying out the enormous and excellent work the biden administration -- primarily our democratic congress. this has been, in the midst of a covid pandemic. everything you laid out and more, it has been done. right now, with this inflation reduction act, we will see, first of all, senior citizens. who pay enormous sums of money for their prescriptions -- this is reaffirming, and help our senior citizens. we finally have a 35-dollar cap on insulin. but that is only for medicare recipients. it's a first start, i'm really pleased that we were able to get that. we have to make sure people have private insurance, and have access to insulin. lifesaving drugs, they are very

3:07 am
in a bipartisan fashion, with our republican colleagues. we start from there. putting people over politics is what is going to deliver for the american people. when you look at what has taken place with our leadership, trying to negotiate, it's a thin margin, it's a very dicey. all of these negotiations, i very dicey. we always pushed through. i think we need to get rid of the filibuster, because, this is a policy, that is outdated. it was developed as a result of jim crow. we need to get rid of a filibuster, to make sure -- make our agenda move forward. and so, it says a lot about our leadership. which you laid out in terms of president biden has signed into

law, i think the public understands that democrats have been fighting for them, putting people over politics, and was up at the polls like -- like the voting box. >> how are democrats selling these victories to american people? especially when they can get consumed, -- or put on back burners, for things like the fbi, searching the president's house? >> first of all, suffering from inflation, people care about kitchen table issues really. when you see what is taking place in terms of the cost of gasoline, going down, the cost of living is going down, but we have done with inflation reduction act, to make sure that health care subsidies continue. people do not have the health care costs raised. i think people see right away that democrats are working for them, and with the important issues are. we have to protect our democracy. i believe people want to
3:09 am
preserve our democracy. they know how fragile it is. the american people are smart people. we know that they have to do everything to preserve our democracy, but part of preserving our democracy, is delivering for every day working families, people of color -- for people have been shut out historically, of this american system. >> let's stay on these kitchen tables issues, this is what people are feeling most acutely. many of the aspects of the undoubted victories the democrats have had, our policies that will not go into effect right away. some of them won't go into effect for years. how do you sell that to the american people? that these are things that will help you and your family eventually, down the road, they have to be done, and they got them done. but you may not feel them right away?
3:10 am
>> that is an issue. sometimes, it presents a dilemma. i will tell you one thing. some of the provisions will be felt immediately in terms of the inflation reduction act. we are transitioning to a green economy, these jobs that will be created, will not be in two or three years. these companies will get tax incentives, people and their homes, they will be retrofitted, they would begin to see the benefits very soon. it's hard -- senior citizens will see very soon that there -- on the infrastructure bill for example, jobs are being created as we speak. money is going out to our communities, people are applying for grants. looking at training people for these infrastructure jobs. these jobs are moving.
3:11 am
in a democracy, sometimes, the wheels of democracy are slow. but it works, and we are pushing as hard as we can because this is our government. and we are working hard to streamline all of these initiatives, so that the benefits can be felt as quickly as possible. american people deserve that. >> i want to stay on this for just a little bit longer, about how hard it is to change the feeling. people are feeling like things are getting bad, and everything is tightening around them. inflation, gas prices, what have you. but even the some of the things you are describing, they take months. the election, the midterms are a few months away. in the meantime, a lot of parents are sending kids back to school, -- and whatever little relief

they're getting from inflation, looks like it was taken down a bit. they will be spending a lot more cash. how do you get over that feeling? intellectually, i understand what you're saying. it makes complete sense. it makes sense that jobs are being created right now, some of them, will continue to be made. some things that will go in effect, that will prevent you from having higher prices. particularly the medical front. how do we adjust the feeling that people have had all summer, like they felt they were stuck? >> it's very difficult. i have a back on a psychology, and i'm a social worker. i understand the feelings, it's very important, emotions. but our feelings really present in terms of our daily lives. i think it's up to elected

there are times, the department also has a policy, that you should not interfere with an election. so in the days -- holding off on doing something, like an indictment, you don't do it on the days before the election. this is years before the election, that he might be running in. there is no reason to hold off, on taking action, if the facts are warranted. we do not know all the facts. what we have seen publicly, by looking at just the inventory that came with the unsealing of the search warrant, it shows that he had the most classified information that anybody could have. include a top secret sensitive compartment, information. that gets a classification like that, only if it is something that poses a grave threat to our democracy.
