4:00 pm
tonight on the reidout.
4:01 pm
>> i've been in the room when difficult decisions are being made. i don't want the federal government involved in that at all. i want to put the best ideas forward to states can decide for themselves. >> yes, ladies, you your doctor and maybe your town council person can all come to a consensus on your uterus. just an example how republicans are struggling to avoid saying what they really plan to do about abortion. and extreme voices in the republican party. chief of staff mark meadows is ordered to testify as legal pressure mounts on trump's inner circle to tell what they know about the plot to overturn the 2020 election. we begin the reidout. you thrive as a presidential candidate despite bragging about
4:02 pm
violating woman and being credibly accused of acting on it. you thrive as an ohio senate candidate despite telling women they should stay in violent marriages. you thrive as an ohio house candidate despite facing allegations of hitting a former girlfriend. in today's republican party you thrive as a georgia senate candidate despite of attacking, choking and putting a gun to your ex-wife's head and threatening to kill her. with two weeks until we find out if these people will represent your voice and state and national office, we are getting daily reminders with how little respect the maga party has for women. a 19th century ban on abortion is currently on hold. republicans running for state office have vowed to make sure that law is enforced. last night during the first debate between two democratic -- candidates democratic governor
4:03 pm
whitner and republican challenger dixon deflected questions about her own extreme positions. >> when governor with whitmer tells you this is going to be roe, it's not even close to roe. it's not co-defining roe in your constitution. it would be the most radical abortion law in the country. the only place that have something something is china and north korea. >> here's why you can't trust anything she's saying. she is the one that said a 14-year-old child raped by her uncle is a perfect example of someone who should not have reproductive rights and the ability to choose. she said it is healing for a person who is raped to carry the child to term. i couldn't disagree more. >> in wisconsin, where another 19th century ban on abortion is in effect, making performing abortions a felony evans with
4:04 pm
six years in prison. tim michaels said he supports the law. tony ebers is the only thing stpapbding in the way of a total erosion of reproductive rights in that state. john johnson has told wisconsin women if they don't like the state's abortion law, they should just leave. in pennsylvania, mehmet oz, who technically is a doctor, showed pennsylvania women houlgts he thinks of them and their rights, telling women what happens to their bodies should be up to politicians. >> i want women, doctors, local, political leaders letting the democracy to put their best foot forward. >> mostly men and those who never had an abortion get to weigh in on what a woman can and cannot do with what happens inside their bodies. >> this is who dr. oz wants in charge of women's health care
4:05 pm
decisions. >> i want women, doctors, local political leaders -- local political leaders -- local political leaders. >> even in cases of rape, incest, or life of the mother. assist is too extreme for pennsylvania. >> yet another reminder of the overall contempt republicans have for women. a second woman accused that georgia senate candidate herschel walker of urging her to get an abortion, saying walker personally drove her to a texas abortion clinic. jane doe held a press conference with gloria allred. she left the clinic in tears because she was unable to go through with it. walker was anything none of that, drove her back to the clinic and waited for her in the parking lot and waited for her to have the procedure.
4:06 pm
there was a voice mail where he professes his love for the woman. it happened while he was married to his high school sweetheart. initially, walker claimed this allegation was nothing but foolishness. then he made his first of two appearances on fox news >> we have to address the elephant in the room today. that is another accuser has come forward, anonymous. although she spoke to reporters today saying that you pressured her to have an abortion and that he paid for it. how do you respond to that? . >> well, that's a lie. and i've said that's a lie. i hope people can see right now that rafael and the left will do everything they can to win the seat. they messed with the wrong georgian here. they cannot scare me or force me out of this seat. >> you know what sounds foolish,
4:07 pm
a man who claims to be pro-life but actually isn't. joining me is host of "the cycle" and tom bonyer of targetsmart. thank you boeing for being here. i want to my a bit of this from herschel walker's latest accuser. let's take a listen. >> i am coming forward now because i saw her shell deny the allegations by another woman who claimed that he had paid for her abortion. and particularly i saw him state that the woman's claims were not true because he never signed any cards using the letter "h." i knew that was not true because he had often signed letters to me using "h." i am a registered independent, and i voted for donald trump in
4:08 pm
both elections. i do not believe that her shell is morally fit to be a u.s. senate. >> rachel, you have a disadvantage of not being with us in studio. how do you think that allegation winds up playing in the georgia race? >> i think this is one of the most compelling arguments you can make in the electoral situations that democrats find themselves in and other tough areas like texas. and that is to try to tell republicans who have spent 30, 40 years of their lives convinced that this is a moral red line for them, that that is indeed a red line and that other republicans are not willing to cross it because we know for sure that this man paid for at least one abortion, right? i think that is a compelling argument to make. i think they also need to be arguing to win in these states that there is a secret ballot
4:09 pm
they can use to protect their reproductive freedom too. i think we have a chance to take it to the gop in those states. >> let me come to you, tom. one of the things we're seeing is people are voting like crazy. i mean, we're talking already the 12 million votes -- or 1 million votes in georgia have already been cast. this is the state of georgia. every demographic is coming out. black voters, voters age 50 coming out in the biggest numbers. 12 million have been cast nationwide. 633,000 plus in pennsylvania. 56% of those are women. you are talking about georgia, fulton county, mowing every other county down. you are seeing a lot of voting by women. your numbers have consistently shown it is a driving force. is that, in your mind, still the case? . >> absolutely. the theory going into this election was that democrats wouldn't be fired up.
4:10 pm
this was going to be a typical midterm election where the party and power, their voters would stay home. it was looking like that was going to be the case until the dobbs decision. >> right. >> there was a question. great women are registered but are they going to vote. almost a million despite the governor's suppression bill. big gender gaps by women, especially african american women in georgia. same thing in pennsylvania. we are looking at these first-time voters. people have not voted in any election before. those are the biggest gender gaps. the issue is motivating women to come out >> and for people who say georgia turnout means no voter subpoena relation. -- suppression. they are nervous they want to have a second shot if their vote gets rejected. if they show up and their name is taken off, they want to be
4:11 pm
able to come back. people vote early because there is voter suppression and younger people because of convenience. that doesn't mean anything. that law is still heinous. just in texas and rachel did mention texas. i did a little sweep of the crowd and asked what is the most important issue to them. let's listen to what they said >> reproductive rights. >> climate change. >> voters rights. >> women's rights. >> women's rights. >> economy. >> our democracy. >> okay. >> voting. >> had women's rights. >> voting. >> okay. >> women's reproductive rights. >> democracy. >> reproductive rights. >> i have a wife and daughter. abortion. >> and i'm telling you that was my whole trip there. i asked, what do you care about? consistently, abortion, abortion. here, one we haven't heard a lot about, people were really passionate about the right to
4:12 pm
vote and democracy. the things that -- it's why we talk about this a lot on the show. people talk to me about it. it's what people are worried about. why do you suppose the polling averages aren't reflecting that? what is what people are seeing and hearing on the ground. >> i think we are all well aware of that. we have seen the track record. they're always going to say yes when you ask about the economy. we do a lot of focused groups. doing a lot of focused groups now. i tell you whether it's swing women, democratic women. abortion, choice, democracy. they are the first thing mentioned. >> rachel, let me play for you. this is a little bit wild. charlestonry cyst had a little bit of a debate back and forth with ron desantis on abortion. take a listen. >> we just found out recently about a case of a middle school girl near jacksonville who was a victim of incest, became
4:13 pm
impregnated. because of the bill you signed, governor, she had to go two to three states in order to take care of this issue. that's not compassionate leadership. that's not doing the right thing. that's not even having a heart. >> apparently crist supported abortion up to the moment of birth. he voted against the innocent born alive act. >> again, that's not true, and you know it. >> there's no such thing as people aborting babies that is -- that is stupid. people keep saying it. this is the fear that i hear people reflecting in real life, not in a poll. god forbid you have an ectopic pregnancy, a child is raped. in the state of florida if a woman is raped, they're out of luck. there is no exception for incest or rape. and so i think people living in states that already are under
4:14 pm
gilead, this woman was almost crying saying she feels like she is in gilead, living in texas. there is no pay to politte. it is just there. >> number one, we are seeing a roe effect in the polling. what people need to understand, and tom alluded to this. we started this cycle two years right after biden won, understanding we would be the out party and probably what we would look at is a significant loss in both chambers and across the governorships and statewide offices. instead, what we saw after roe was the ballot now equalized. and then this enthusiasm gap from what you are referring to, joy, and you know it's my buzz word. negative partisanship. >> yeah. >> people think, oh, it's simple. i hate republicans just because i hate them. no. i hate them because they want to tell me that i have to carry a dead fetus inside my body, right. that is fear.
4:15 pm
that is emotion. that is threat, right. and we're seeing that everywhere, we should anticipate odd outcomes election night. i would tell people we are in a fantastic place in terms of following that fetterman is up, ohio looks competitive. we should be looking at a completely different landscape. that is the row effect. >> women are fighting for their lives. i have never lived in a time in my life when you felt we are fighting for our literal liberty and people say you care about the price. i want to ask you about fetterman. there is a rorschach test. i don't have time to read a piece of it. a lot of people suffered strokes. a lot of great senators, members of congress people have suffered strokes. what do you think happens there? all i can remember is the sound clip we played about abortion. but the right is attempting to use fetterman speaking slowly as
4:16 pm
if herschel walker don't exist. he didn't even have a stroke. that's me. the mean one who said that. what do you make of this and the health effect of fetterman? >> it was clear from the beginning of the debate that oz didn't want to talk about choice. >> yeah. >> he was trying to change it. let's talk about crime, the economy. there was no one question in the middle of the debate. he told the honest truth. he wants to punt to a group that nationally, as you said, two-thirds of state legislators are men. most are older white men. that's not going to play well. pennsylvania had one of the biggest gender gaps in voter registration. young women are very fired up. this isn't going to help them >> you know what, for a lot of people they would rather have somebody brave enough to risk embarrassment and the pain of embarrassment to show this is me a little frail. you know? that to me was gutsy. it made me like fetterman more.
4:17 pm
he had the guts to get out there. that could not have been easy. and he's improving. but he knows that he was going to be a little at a deficit. i think people would rather have that and protect their rights and have freedom and liberty than the other side who wants women to be state property. my editorial at the end. up next on "the reidout", some victories will happen on election day for republicans. it's just going to happen. with multiple investigations under way into the attempts to overturn the 2020 election and the ensuing january 6th insurrection, the pressure to get witnesses to cooperate and testify is growing. today a south carolina judge ordered former white house chief of staff mark meadows to comply with a grand jury subpoena for his testimony in its investigation into potential criminal meddling into the state's 2020 election results. now, remember meadows was on the infamous phone call made to brad raffensperger in 2021. he urged him to find enough votes to flip the state. also,s the "new york times" is reporting that the justice department asked a federal judge to force two lawyers to provide additional testimony in its investigation into trump's efforts to overturn the 2020 election. prosecutors say former white

to become a guardian of liberty today. meet leon the third... leon the second... and leon... the first of them all. three generations, who all bank differently with chase. leon's saving up for his first set of wheels... nice try. really? this leon's paying for his paint job on the spot... and this leon, as a chase private client, he's in the south of france, taking out cash with no atm fees. that's because this family of leons has chase. actually, it's león. ooh la la! one bank for now. for later. for life. chase. make more of what's yours. for people living with h-i-v, keep being you. and ask your doctor about biktarvy. biktarvy is a complete, one-pill, once-a-day treatment used for h-i-v in certain adults. it's not a cure, but with one small pill, biktarvy fights h-i-v to help you get to and stay undetectable. that's when the amount of virus is so low it cannot be measured by a lab test. research shows people who take h-i-v treatment every day and get to and stay undetectable

can no longer transmit h-i-v through sex. serious side effects can occur, including kidney problems and kidney failure. rare, life-threatening side effects include a buildup of lactic acid and liver problems. do not take biktarvy if you take dofetilide or rifampin. tell your doctor about all the medicines and supplements you take, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have kidney or liver problems, including hepatitis. if you have hepatitis b, do not stop taking biktarvy without talking to your doctor. common side effects were diarrhea, nausea, and headache. if you're living with hiv, keep loving who you are. and ask your doctor if biktarvy is right for you. it all started, as many things do, with a tweet. on sunday, marco rubio claimed one of his canvassers was attacked by four animals who told him republicans weren't allowed this their family neighborhood. he tweeted this morning saying thugs told this canvasser he couldn't be in their
4:49 pm
neighborhood because he was a republican. now, assault is assault and it shouldn't happen to one. the police makes no mention of a political dispute, nor that he was target for being a republican. even the assailant's mom, a registered republican is rejecting rubio account saying her son doesn't know anything about republicans and has never voted. he is a right-wing activist who attended the unite the right rally in charlottesville. at a separate protest in florida he was arrested for lunging at a crowd with a confederate flag and a member of the florida league of the south. when they transpired to interview him at the hospital, members of the proud boys were there and refused to let reporters enter the room. the republican party paid him
4:50 pm
more than $10,000 between june and september, according to federal campaign finance records. that's right. a white supremacist on the republican payroll, just another day in florida. joining me now is msnbc political analyst. i'll just ask for your thoughts. >> well, joy, i mean, even by weird florida standards, this is pretty, pretty bizarre and strange. and, you know, i guess it's easy to dismiss at the surface level marco rubio engaged in spacial hypocrisy. no one condones any type of violence. it's curious that marco rubio il two people thugs and animals when it comes to the actions of january six, a curious silence and downplaying by mr. rubio. just on this force surfaces,
4:51 pm
seem like a little bit that market doth protest too much. two questions and i think are stranger here and really questions that are worth investigating and asking, number one, why is the republican party of florida paying $10,000 to an avowed white supremacist, someone who goes by the name the cuban confederate, who said participated in hate rallies, and engaged in electoral efforts now in the midterms. i think the third most important question, if rubio is engaged in conspiracy theories seeing monger-ing, false narratives about what police reports are not reflecting, but creating an environment joy where all of a sudden he's trying to suggest that proud boys like individuals like mr. monsoon are suddenly under attack, is he blaming conditions in a state where we already have something known as the stand your ground law, which says that if you feel threatened, all of a sudden you can fire a gun and shoot
4:52 pm
someone and quote self-defense. and his rubio kind of creating and stoking these passions that might lead to violence with proud boys and other avowed white supremacist who all of a sudden are going to use this story as a pretext to quote defend them selves whenever they feel like they might be under attack in the matter that the story is being raised. i think it's very disturbing along those lines joy. >> absolutely. the mom is disputing all of it. we've talked about this a lot. marco rubio starts notices jeb bush republican, then he's the king of the tea party, then he's a trump anti trump republican, and he's trump's poodle. he's kind of anything he needs to be. it isn't surprising to me that he would be fine with having a white supremacist, white nationalist, who's got the proud boys guarding his hospital room on his team. but i wonder about the bigger picture here, particularly in miami-dade, where you've got
4:53 pm
the proud boys essentially taking over the republican party there. they are literally in power in the official republican party. how deep is this merger at this point between proud boys, cuban honors, other white nationalists and the republicans in south florida? >> it's a wholesale merged enterprise if you will. what makes it even worse joy is that you have members of congress, republican senators and officials in florida, not a single one, not a single one has denounced the proud boys that have entered the leadership of the local republican party in south florida. let's think about that for a second. the proud boys been classified as a domestic terrorist organization. the leader of the proud boys is in jail for seditious conspiracy. one of his deputies pled guilty to suggests conspiracy in the events of january six, and you have this paramilitary violent organization involved in the
4:54 pm
running of the south florida republican party. and none of the members of the florida delegation on the republican side, certainly not republican senators or any republican officials have denounced them. it's a story in a state that continues to follow this maga republican track and more importantly with a signal in florida that if you are a maga republican, whether you're violent or not, you weren't safe ground here. you will be protected in court. >> what is marco rubio said about this? he's running against an actual former police officer, a police chief involved demings, and yet you've got these police indoor organizations endorsing him. what about elon order front? as he had anything to say about that? >> remember, marco rubio is a soft puppet. he will say what the hand in his mouth asked him to say on that day whatever talking points -- marco rubio at this point doesn't really matter. i'll tell you what is scary though.
4:55 pm
law enforcement officials in florida decided to back marco rubio overall demings, one of their own who's a former police chief, it calls into question the same way we're thinking about the police supreme court united states. think those are legitimate questions about law enforcement here in south florida. when you're siding with someone like marco rubio, who says he doesn't seem to have any problem with law enforcement and people losing lives in the rally on january six. >> and i will remind folks that the head of latinos for trump, he was already involved in official republican public politics before the insurrection, and they were fine with his presence, fine with his other issues and incidences in his past. it's scary past. for now monday thank you very much, we'll be right back.
