night. but it does seem that democrats will have to defy political gravity to be in the election cycle. [inaudible] what about manipulating polling -- a publicans leading [inaudible] 48% to 47. that's well within the margin of error, but still? what do you make of this? >> charles, count me on team simon rosenberg. the reason why, simon, like nbc, leaving at the data. we had 38 million votes. looking an actual voters, charles, the democrats and early voting have a nationally. it's a three-point time, in 2020. ten points higher, in the 2018 midterms. these are very strong for the

democrats, in the national level. carles and republicans are doing better in florida. let's not necessarily what we're seeing on voting day. and look, there's talk of a red wing. it hasn't materialized yet. if you're on the team of democrats, a look at these early voting numbers, not rather be a democratic position than republican. red tidal wave, premature and not consistent with what we're seeing in the early voting. -- try to exploit them to the agenda that he is soft on crime when the republican candidates typically across the board have been focused solely on increasing police presence where is the democrats have been focusing on bail reform and justice reform and trying to ensure that we are getting to the root causes of what leads to violent crime investing in education and employment. those have been part of mandela barnes's platform but i think that charles you actually have spoke to this eloquently. the way these races campaign appeals are actually extended to the larger voting process and the things which donald trump normalized this type of language and then used it in 2022 suggest that the elections were stolen and the majority of african american precincts and counties and latino precincts

and counties and cities or counties like wayne county and detroit in milwaukee. in philadelphia and so on. so it is pernicious to one candidate and also pernicious as it implies to the entire electoral process. >> let me ask a little bit and talk about law enforcement. democrats have been appearing all over the country with former lawsuit issues touting their potential on crime that they would never disowned the police but is not messaging too late? >> is it too late? interesting question. i do not think it is too late. i think that they are trying hard to fight back against what has been clearly the republican messaging for 2020. what they have been very clear about trying to receive funding the police from the bogeyman?

it has worked in many instances. i think what the democrats are trying to do but they cannot explain what their platform is includes having the latest name brands and beliefs that are also then mentioned getting to those root causes of crime in the first place. in these last few days it is really about trying to make sure that you are clear about the message. and then getting your best ambassadors to the doors. we will see. i do not think it changes the game but they are doing their best to be clear and crystalize their message. >> a political poll found that only 33% of black americans are extremely enthusiastic about voting. and some are worried that the party is not doing enough to motivate them. do you agree with that and what is behind that lack of enthusiasm? >> i think that whether or not you feel like the democratic party is doing enough, the contrast is clear.

claim to be debunked. but does that even matter to these people? what do you think about the idea that i'm sharing or competing in games about debunked theory's? >> that debunking does not matter. the new york times article makes clear that these people are not finding any voter fraud. can they convince the other people in the game, i think they're willing to be convinced and it. basically, trump supporters -- that looking for some sort of broader evidence, so we see these fake documentaries coming out. they need something to latch onto. >> they're not finding any voter fraud yet. could this impact the

perception of legitimacy [inaudible] >> i think so. it's the idea that voter fraud is not really a problem, it's easy to -- in practice what we're seeing is, they latch on to left-leaning nonprofits, these guys are doing voter fraud. latching on to people for their racial or ethnic status. they can uncover this stuff, scour social media posts, accuse random election workers of committing fraud. ultimately, it ends up in that that's an all those things. so i do think that it really [inaudible] unfortunately, even more people is quite around. i'm >> gonna call these people vigilantes, not realizing that it is a very, very, very, dated analysis.
