i mean as one of a soggy. and we got a raft weather making a mess for millions of americans in that final dash home after the holidays. new backpedalling from former president donald trump amidst growing anger over his dinner with white nationalist leader nick fuentes. while democrats are a rage, republicans are largely dismissive. watch this. >> think it was a mistake for the former president to do that? >> certainly a need better judgment in who he dines with. i know that he's issued a statement said he didn't know who those people were. at any rate, my focus is going to be on investigating the colonel ministration. >> increasing chances that kevin mccarthy may face something that we haven't seen
11:02 am
for a century. a floor fight battle for speaker of the house. plus two game and killed in a new york city and it may just be the tip of the iceberg in a deadly scheme targeting the lgbtq community. we're gonna have the details of that story ahead as well. you don't want to miss that. we start with that holiday raj. for millions of americans looking to get back home this weekend. this is literally one of the busiest travel weekends in decades. reaching back to pre-pandemic levels. want to bring in bc's cal perry. been standing by for us all day and arena nationala board. along with meteorologist michelle grossman. tracking severe weather that could impact travel the rest of the day as well. cal, talk to me, what do you hear from folks there on the state before a return to work after the thanksgiving holiday? >> that it's not as bad as they were expecting it to be. you will remember how bad it was this summer and we had tens of thousands of flights canceled. it was a nightmare. people couldn't get anywhere. the staffing was a mess.
11:03 am
airlines how seem to fix that problem at least up until now. there have been dozens i would say of lights of a canceled so far today. that is not at all a large number. american airlines, for example, in the morning here at reagan national airport. flights in early because they're worried about that afternoon that's going out and the weather may be getting worse. so far, it's been pretty good. one of the reasons that it's been pretty smooth is the weather was good up until today. that's something that the managing editor of the points guy had spoke about yesterday. takeovers son. >> i think the airlines cut a big break in terms of the road or cooperated. there was no major storms. there wasn't a lot of problems that could lead to a sort of domino effect. first past the holiday season, it tested with winning colors. look at yesterday only a couple of dozen cancellations. most of the days leading up to the holiday. that's where in the fall and winter especially for holiday grids. airlines definitely dodged a bullet. we'll have to see what happens
11:04 am
at christmas time. that's the real test. >> the one worry right now looks to be the dallas airport. you see some delays that it's a pretty big job. we'll keep an eye on that. so far pretty good. airlines increasing staffing should make a pretty big difference. even if your flight is delayed, they can get you back out. that is something that as you know was a problem this summer. >> michelle, that's where you come into this conversation. they may have dodged a bullet for now. it seems like we're seeing some iffy weather. in the next few hours or so. especially after the northeast. if you can think about folks that are possibly working from home. maybe delaying the return home to monday to tuesday to avoid the holiday gridlock. how are they going to be affected throughout today and over the next couple of days. >> yasmin, yeah, we are looking at two storm systems today. let's start first with a live picture outside. new york city skyline. just tells the story of what's happening the northeast right
11:05 am
now it's great there's a low clouds we have light rain falling. it's windy too in spots. look at this picture. if you haven't looked outside maybe your cozy on the couch. we are looking at just a dismal type day. that's going to impact some airlines as we go throughout the next hours. when we look at satellite radar. reseason heavy rain falling in portions of the northeast, great lakes, ohio valley. into the mid-atlantic. we could see some strong thunderstorms as we go throughout this afternoon. even seeing some blue on the map. here that's where snow is falling. northwest we're looking at snowfall we'll talk more about that storm system because that's going to make its way across the country. that will impact the next several days. right now, we are looking at that heavy rain falling. especially where you see those brighter colors and yellows the reds the oranges. that's where heavy rain is following. so we're seeing that through the great lakes new england upstate new york into the northeast. other parts the northeast. the mid-atlantic. we're seeing a lot of red to. that's really heavy rain. most likely will see some delays. do you likely spots will be boston d.c. philadelphia. some possible delays in detroit
11:06 am
charlotte atlanta. even into denver, salt lake city seattle looks good in the southwest. we're looking at smooth sailing there with no delays in san francisco, las vegas, los angeles, phoenix. the roadways, a lot of people are driving to. we're going to be impacted in the northeast i 90 from boston to buffalo. new york to chicago traveling on i-80, i-95. as we go throughout time here. we're looking at travel impacts because of this area of low pressure. moving off to the north, moving off to the east. it's bringing heavy rain with it. it's bringing the potential for some severe weather. the likely spots for any stronger thunderstorms would be portions of the carolinas. it looks like the jacksonville gain was delayed about because some lightning. we're seeing some lighting the southeast as well. as far as your rainfall forecasts were not talking about a huge amount of rain we're talking a decent amount we're looking at an inch in some spots as we go throughout the rest of this afternoon into the evening hours we'll see some lingering snow showers in northern parts of new england tomorrow it's really the north
11:07 am
where we're looking at snow and rain higher elevation snow mountain snow up to a foot in some spots in also really windy. so if you're traveling on the roadways, it's going to be tough with winds gusting up to 50, 60, 70 miles per hour as we go throughout today. then tomorrow, we'll see that snow stretching into the rockies, the high plains. another difficult travel day likely in the higher elevation in the mountains as well. and then yasmin, i do want to mention. i wanna get this on our radar because on tuesday, we're gonna see that storm system or severe weather to parts of the southeast, also the tennessee valley. back to you. >> michelle grossman for us, thank you. cal perry, thank you as well. the backlash everybody continuing of course with the former president's dinner with white supremacists and holocaust denier nick fuentes. donald trump once again claiming he knows nothing about fuentes, suggesting that he was just helping out a quote troubled county west who brought fuentes to mar-a-lago. from gop officials showing tepid criticism at best over
11:08 am
this latest outrage. let's take a listen. >> certainly needs better judgment in who he dines with. i assume you condemn this like he would not take a meeting with this person. >> i would not take a meeting with that person no i wouldn't take immediate kenny west either but that's my opinion. >> i hope sunday we want to be responding to what former president trump has said or done and it's instances important to respond so no i don't think it's a good idea for a leader that's sitting and example for the country or the party to meet with avowed racist or antisemite. >> want to bring in nbc's jonathan allen who standing by for us to talk more about this better judgment not necessarily the response folks are really looking for when you have a former president of the united states dining with the leader of a white supremacist movement in this country talk to me
11:09 am

11:10 am
known to many americans. that's because he is the leader of a fringe group of white nationalists, white supremacists, neo-nazis, would everyone call them, who are antisemitic and -- he is a fringe leader. and yet, he's sitting there with the former president of the united states. who is pretending that he doesn't know who fuentes is. which is as ridiculous as when donald trump pretended he didn't know who david duke was during the 2016 campaign. one thing i would note, fuentes is so far on the fringe that he basically started his own conference to oppose cpac, the conservative political ethics conference. there is a big concern at cpac about ten months ago about which people were going to be at cpac might also be a 26 conference. including marjorie taylor greene, the congresswoman from georgia. so he's basically saying that the people at cpac orange racist enough, aren't crazy enough for him in order to be
11:11 am
part of the trump movement. >> here is the thing, jonathan. this is what i find so astounding. but also not really. nick fuentes is julian greene of the republican party already. it seems only natural that he also be now leading with having dinner with tiny with the former president of the united states. who's favorites in congress right now are marjorie taylor greene, paul -- folks that are as the new york times puts, it friends with right acquaintances with someone like nick fuentes. specifically nick fuentes. >> he would be absurd to say this is unintentional by former president trump. we've seen him do this time and again. do something that's controversial. meet with somebody who's controversial. support some idea that's controversial. then kind of pretend that he doesn't know why people are upset about it. at the same time, keeps the story going. once as many people as possible to read about this in the when a situation. that's what he's posting to
11:12 am
truth social. he's -- he is trying to make sure that the absolute for this make america great again fringe basis with him. as he embarks on trying to win the primary. and i think that's the only legitimate way to read this after years of watching president trump behaved. there was somebody also actually said that would dinner with somebody, you know it because they come out and convince -- condemn them. former president trump is not done that at all. in, fact his -- he fanned the news. >> i want to lead folks with this. a tweet that he put out there when you talk about the midterm elections. saying republicans are doing this weekend. figueroa had responded on from talking 2024 with ye. the neo-nazi instead you said earlier what herbal can should be doing this weekend promoting herschel walker candidacy. you think about what is that's -- especially when it comes to the senate. that runoff, just a couple of days away this point.

>> we're close to putting down the pennant going to print. and i think the report is going to send out in a i hope very comprehensive way what took place, would lead to that attack. and all of the circumstances around that. we're also going to be releasing the evidence. which may be the most important thing. the voluminous transcripts. the documents, the emails. we want to make sure that that's put before the american people. we certainly don't want the jim jordans of the world to cherry pick anything not disclose and make a false or misleading narrative out of it. >> still ahead, the trump organizations criminal tax fraud trial could be wrapped up as early as this week when a guilty verdict could be -- for the former president. personally just as he launches his latest run for office. plus the lgbtq community on edge after multiple deadly attacks in colorado and new details on a murder mystery involving gay man in new york
