christmas eve for them take that as you will. no question, this is bee problematic weather. it has become unfortunatel deadly weather as well we are looking at reports from officials in multiple states more than 30 people dead those deaths all being blame on the winter weather we'v experience buffalo is getting pummeled by this weather the governor of new york i saying that this storm is goin to go down as the most devastating in the history o buffalo. for context, for people wh don't know, that part of new york state, western york i very familiar with bad weather we were there in november when they were getting this massive lake effect system right befor thanksgiving i can tell you concerned how much snow ice on the groun there. they were trying to move through it they had the plows out constantly then you were to dump snow t get off of the streets because they were expecting so much to keep on coming this is an area that were -- the governor of new york i saying this is going to be the

to be able to enjoy this holiday. no question. it has been a complicated on from a travel standpoint obviously, for first responder trying to rescue people becaus this isn't the kind of white christmas people dream about this is one that has been nuisance and frankly has bee quite dangerous for many americans this holiday weekend >> jesse, up against man different ways mostly negative certainly. you're at a very important travel hub how are folks getting out of what was yesterday where the didn't get on a plane but toda looks just as bad? >> richard, you had some peopl who are actually stuck here in d.c. reagan national airport. they actually had to go to nearby hotels in order to go t rebooked flights today there are approximately 4000 delays nationwide. 1600 cancellations due to this fierce winter storm. here at reagan nationa airport.
11:06 am
it's not too bad compared to other airports however, there are som cancellations here some people are going to ticke counters to try and re-boo their flights. with the holiday travel surg underway large crowds are flooding some airports and major cities such as d.c., chicago, seattle. with the holiday surge underway, these large crowds are floodin the airports and temperature are plunging bringing the coldest christmas on record to several citie here despite the lay, some people here at reagan national tell u they're relieved to have arrived or as others are upset over the cancellations >> christmas nightmare the >> what's it been like >> it's been long. they have switched som terminal terminal to terminal. they have switched flights and said it could be another hou and then another two hours we have just been stuck for

other correspondents coverin the road for to be found out they wer saying we've written out two or three times. we found something different >> first off, merry christmas. great to be here with you on christmas day with you on your viewers. look, i see in the report very much what i saw in the hearing that we saw throughout the committee. from the very beginning. it was clear that the hearings were putting the ful responsibility for the insurrection of january 6th on one man, president donald trum as the instigator. the mastermind that created th conditions that led to tha violent insurrection on th capitol on january 6th certainly in my reading of the report that is the absolut take away with those crimina referrals to the justice department i think there's one thing that maybe did surprise me a little bit. although they are mentioned to some extent. folks like collaborators o president trump. rudy giuliani, john eastman.
11:11 am
even those four members of congress that include ji jordan for possible ethics violations you wonder question could ther have been -- they have been a little bi more explicit and perhap naming some of those other collaborators if you will that were part and parcel of th effort that would open in thei discussions. especially when you sa revealed through mark meadows. the former presidents chief of staff text messages that suggested people way ginni thomas the wife of the supreme cour justice would exactly what - could there been more that - had there been greater cooperation with them. so i look at it as a very clea problem for donald trump whose legal exposure is goin to grow even more problemati as we go into 2023 >> as we go into 2023 here brendan, there is going to b no list cheney, no ada kinzinger. those were key characters, a you know, in this particular report what did you take away fro what this means for the future for them as well as the next
11:12 am
congress >> i think there's trump allie and maybe even targets of this report like jeffrey clark make some comments celebrating the end o the committee. because they won't exist in th republican congress. i think that celebration is little premature while this committee is undoing, this whole saga is now enterin a pretty dangerous point for donald trump because this is where doj take over obviously doj has been looking at this for a long time. i think the next big thing you're going to hear on this i action by the justic department potentially indictments. well the committee did its job ultimately, it's up to doj t finish it. congress is not a la enforcement body it's a political body. it did its job to do i think significan political damage to donald trump. i think he is obviously a much weaker candidate than he was
11:13 am
previously i think this committee has a lot to do with that. they also put a lot of political pressure on th department of justice. to take action to hear a lot of people talk about doj does its own thing it doesn't care. i think it's naive to thin there are in politics involved there are some serious political personality or t take some action against the president. >> let me move to th transcripts. so we look at the transcripts. one of the things that jus came out as a reading throug them's house senate minority leader mitch mcconnell had don according to kyle cheney reporting here i'm reading this out o politico and the national securit adviser robert o'brien t investigate rumors of potential attack on biden' inauguration that is one of the most detail you don't necessarily want t read but that's what's comin out of the transcripts right now. >> indeed. a stunning revelation. i think it speaks to what no only we saw in suspected tha mitch mcconnell was clearl much more concerned at the
11:14 am
time but i think if anything, withi detail calls into question i why mitch mcconnell when he ha the opportunity to vote to convict donald trump and maybe do some of the work that we're seeing come out of these committee reports. which we've -- why he didn't take advantage o that opportunity when th moment was there in th immediate aftermath of january 6th. i like to go back very quickly to a point for the made which think is for tickle goin forward. the republicans take control o the house representatives just after the new year they are anxious to show a new type of approach to governing. they're even talking of thei investigations to try and muddy the water s to speak if and when the department o justice indict former presiden trump. i believe that that is now coming that is going to escalate this and change as brandon said a political dynamic and make i illegal one that is going to hang over all of the activitie of the republican party in the house. and a call to question do they want to now fully and openly distance themselves from a

former president with historic indictment by the department of justice that remains to be seen >> something about k-12 here brendan. that's congressionally it or ship as we saw the end of the yea close here kevin mccarthy related to th omnibus bill a sense of his energy lisa the end of the year. how do you see him as we shift gears in 2023. being able to scare that leadership will he be able to >> i think he well in the. and this may be a rough road so january 3rd is coming up. that is the first day the ne congress the first thing they have to d is elect a speaker kevin mccarthy has a handful o people who have said that they won't vote for him enough to potentially block. him i think you have to look a everything can mccarthy's been doing over the last week or over the last couple of years. as an effort to shore up those votes. so he came out very strongly against the omnibus. i don't think that's particularly surprising. he needs to show that he's a fighter. he has never people questioned whether he is. there is a real chance that th

merry christmas day starting back sorry about all that i was going to tell you that the church behind me, st michaels cathedral, i hope you can hear me this time. this church is about 1000 year old. it was destroyed by the soviet and rebuilt just only a fe decades ago. just today was the first day they officially held a christmas math on december 25th we were there and it was fascinating because it is just 1000-year old orthodox christian. they were holding it o december 25th. a day when western questions hold their christmas mat this is something that it's no necessarily encouraged by th church but they're all movin away from the eastern orthodox or sort of the moscow patriarc timing which is january 7th. the idea is there's no theological difference there is no necessarily schism in terms of religious
