on the west coast. law enforcement confirming that at least ten people have been killed in a mass shooting lead and at least ten others are injured. in monterey park all of fournié, this is taking place in los angeles county. the incident happened just after champ pm local time, out of business. nbc news correspondent is there with the latest. >> yeah, good morning from monterrey park. the seat of this mashudu. this mass casualty events. police have just given us an update. we now know that seven people have been killed in the shooting, with an additional -- they have been wounded, taken to local hospitals, and trauma centers, all in various states. ranging from stable to critical conditions at this time. again, ten killed, ten injured. police investigating, police telling us that they believe the suspect is still a large. the suspect, a male suspect, a male shooter, has fled the scene after the shooting. the shooting taking place a

little bit after 10:00. 10:22 pm this evening. more than a few hours after one of the largest new year celebrations it all of southern california, if not the entire country. tens of thousands of people flooding the streets. we don't know if that was in relation to the shooting, in fact, we don't know what the motive was for the shooting. we don't know if this is indiscriminate or targeted. police, not sure that information and at this point. again, they do know ten people shot, ten people killed, ten people wounded. so 20 victims in total. at least so far. police are still investigating, the promises another update within the next few hours at this moves forward. still very early in this investigation, as we move forward. the business that this occurred at was reportedly and ballroom. we don't know if that shooting happened inside of that business, or in the street outside. again, all part of the investigation, which is still

to everyone he was there. even in some of the news reports, you're seeing that some people fled from the scene. they went to nearby businesses. i'd imagine they're trying to talk to every individual, trying to get any identifying characteristics of the shooter, and what way that shooter may have gone, or if they used any sort of a vehicle or transportation. separately, there are also going to be looking if there were other instances related to this, during the press conference, they seemed that there was some information that they were running with. i think the fake one that we've seen consistently over and over again, all the close captioned television, all the security camera, as you can see, it is a commercial district. on that street. it's very busy. with the, with this happening after the lunar new year party gathering that was there, hopefully law enforcement can capture some of that video and use it as a lead to get after who the shooter, is where they're coming, from whether

could've gone to. >> you know, clinton, glad that you brought up the existence of the possibility of surveillance cameras. does the fact that this happened overnight, late into saturday night, early sunday morning, does that create some type of -- to get their hands on surveillance, cameras, that kind of stuff, that might be able to pinpoint who the shooter was in this instance? >> yeah, katie, i don't know if it prevents them from doing, at a just makes it more difficult. most of these businesses wore probably not open, or there -- about what happened, and how they might be able to contribute. what i found in my experiences that local businesses, at a situation like this, is that more than -- willing it's the middle of the night here. so tracking those businesses down, any sort of cameras that might be out there to try to gain that evidence. i think it will happen. it'll probably take a bit of time due to the nature of this happening lately evening. >> claimed, you mentioned that there was a press conference.

we managed to capture that a few minutes before the show started. captain andrew, mayer of the homicide bureau, was speaking to media on-site. he did mention, and you mentioned it a second ago, the possibility of another related shooting in alhambra valley. he did mention, captain mayer, that it may be related. if there is this big question mark, and again, this is preliminary at this, time plant, what with that factor into in terms of the investigation that's going to be conducted by police, even now as i'm trying to find a shooter, if they suspect that there is a related shooting nearby? >> well in many cases i think jim kavanaugh was just a little while ago, he was trying to describe, it is not unusual in a mass shooting situation to see that there is some sort of a related shooting against an individual person that it turns out the mass shooting was one of several instances involving the shooter. they would use that to pc

gather in terms of who the shooter, is it how they might proceed in terms of -- i'm sure the biggest concern right now for law enforcement, after getting all of the wounded to hospital for triaging care, is where is the shooter, and what did they do this again. i think that's the big concern. they've got to track down the shooter, find out who it is, and try to prevent any more attacks. especially if it is related to another shooting and another location summer else. >> that is critical, right? the idea that the shooter is still out there. no suspect that is in custody. we have tended, and at least ten injured as a result of this mass shooting, mass casualty events. what should people, residents, and the immediate area, and the surrounding areas, be doing right now? frankly, there's not a lot of information. they don't know who they're looking, for other than the fact that the shooter was male. >> that's right, katie. it goes back to what we are

seeing a new york, and you see all the time i might, ptc something, say something. you have to tip people off, and -- that seems like it might be related, however small it is, it could be that one thing that law enforcement can get up to speed. the growth of the perpetrator as, and go about making sure that the entire community, and the broader l.a. area safe. all reports are helpful, in the end i think that you're going to see a lot of that probably as the morning turns out. if there is more than one location, we still don't know this, but it seems indicate that there might be another incidents. piecing the suez together gives you some idea the locations where we might see some temp surveys coming from. again, the biggest concern is that there is one basketball team and students, and because we don't have the perpetrator, as law enforcement is trying to figure that out right now, they need to get their very quickly. they need to close in that individual, make sure that the communities are safe.

we are following, more classified items found in president biden's home in delaware, this happened during a surge that the white house says was the presidents idea, here is a senior adviser to the white house counsel's office, and stamps, after the personal lawyers who -- which the coordinated with the doj, they went back in the president said, offer up doj access to the house -- so they reach out to doj, offered access to the house, it was provided. >> white house for this conduct, has more. >> katie, good morning.

this is another major development in this growing controversy. the wilmington search itself was kept secret at the request of the department of justice, conducted in conjunction with the presidents lawyers. neither the president or first lady were president as federal agents poured over handwritten notes, files binders, and memorabilia point back decades. this search lasted 13 hours, scan the entire property. it was dead at the invitation of the president's lawyers who said that they offered to provide prompt access to a comprehensive check of any potential classified material that wasn't already turned over to doj. the fbi says that it recovered six items with classification markings and surrounding materials, some of which authorities say dated back to his time in the senate. in addition to some from his years's vice presidents, it's the latest development after fewer than a dozen classified documents are found at the presidents former office of washington d.c. in november, along with more on his will meet him garage in an adjacent

room in recent weeks. the total number of all of this is still unknown at this time, this is closure comes just days after the president had said that he had no regrets over the headline of the documents saga, and those were his first public -- so in this case, there was no search warrant that prompted this detailed review at the wilmington home, unlike the fbi seizure of former president trump's mar-a-lago estate last year. that's a distinction that the biden white house has made repeatedly, and all of this is still unfolding as white house chief of staff will depart the administration in the coming weeks sometime soon after the state of the union. this wasn't his intention for months, but it is a significant change since he's been in the top world for two years. he was a key adviser to the campaign before that and he's also the first of several high-profile staffers expected to exit at this halfway mark in the term. katie. >> that's nbc's monica alba, we

thank you. as monica mentioned, earlier this month, eric garland appointed a special counsel to investigate the materials discovered at president biden's possession. how could this latest development impact that probe? with me now on set is former federal prosecutor and nbc legal analyst, gloria kushner. he's also the host of the podcast, have -- a new in miami is a gift, i thank you for being here. this is done centrally, meaning, president biden said come to my, home look around, and they did. it started at 9:45 in the morning, completed at 10:30 pm, and according to his counsel, biden's council, doj had full access to the presidents home, including personally handwritten notes, files, papers, binders, memorabilia, to do list, and reminders going back decades. this was done by the doj, not special counsel. does make a difference? >> you know it really doesn't

make a difference to the investigative team is that went in and did this thorough search, what does make a difference, katie's this reportedly was that the presidents suggestion. what a difference it makes. you have one president who is sending a signal, i have nothing to hide. you know what? i may have had some documents that carried over from my time previous time, and public service. what i want to do is invite the department of justice in to look through everything. why? because i have no consciousness of guilt, i have nothing to hide. those compare and contrast what donald trump dead. donald trump did nothing but hide the documents that he had unlawfully taken by his own admission, because he posted, i took those documents. more openly and transparently than others. then there was this 18 month

long battle between donald trump, and the national archives. the fbi, doj officials -- then the grand jury that was criminally investigating his essentially theft of classified documents. finally, all that was left for the department of justice is to present all of this information to a judge, and what did the judge find? that there was probable cause, three federal felonies have been committed, and evidence of those crimes would be found at mar-a-lago, donald trump's home, lo and behold, when they executed that search warrant, they were classified documents. let's remember, donald trump may want to talk about -- there were classified documents in his desk drawer. this pretty much seals the criminal deal right there. >> let's get down to legal grass tax. you have a current president who has classified items in his

possessions, former office, et cetera. you also have one of the former president who has classified documents in his possession as well. and my opinion, it turns on the obstruction. you could look at them at their face and say, maybe all the requirements of improperly handling classified information. doesn't this all turn on the intent? like you mentioned, trump was obstructing the ability for the national archives and others to be able to get these documents and materials back. is that going to be a part of the analysis? the calculus that's going to be done by special counsel robert hur, who is a special counsel for president biden's ministration. >> i'm glad the one for the obstruction. on some level, that's what it's all about. donald trump obstructed not only the national archives, not only the department of justices attempts against these documents back, he obstructed investigation that was being conducted by the grand jury.

11 person obstructs justice, and the other facilitates justice, which is what joe biden dead, he facilitated the investigation. he didn't obstruct the investigation. i mean, talk about 90 in day. yes, things like these turn on a criminal act, and criminal intent. you need both of these things in order to criminally charge. we don't know if there's a criminal act, we don't know if joe biden said collect a whole bunch of classified documents and send them to my office and my home. and investigation will sort out how they ended up at his office and home. do you really think that joe biden had criminal intent? was he out there peddling these documents to our foreign adversaries? was he out there leveraging these documents for personal, financial, benefit? it seems unlikely, but let's wait for the investigation to sort things out. i suspect at the end of the day,

you'll have neither a criminal act, nor criminal intent. with donald trump, you have nothing but criminal intent in obstruction of justice. it makes all the difference. >> one last question before you have to end this. i want to ask you this. the documents that are being found biden's custody in possession, they go far back. as some of them, as far back as when he was a sitting senator. that was a 70s and 80s. if you are looking at this case, especially, you are a former federal prosecutor, this is the timing concern you at all? if you are presidents counsel, are you looking at the fact that he's maybe had stuff for decades. does that worry you? it doesn't worry me, but it is an important data point. i would take it all n, and i would have to ask myself at the end of the day, is this an indication that when people leave public service, whether it's in the center, whether the vice presidency, whether the presidency, and they have, let's face, that katie, i don't

think joe biden or donald trump got down on their hands and knees impact of everything themselves. they probably had staffers pack opening up for them, and they directed that they be shipped to various locations. you know is it routine when staffers packed things up? we have to know these things. they're going through each item to see whether there is a classification on that item, or they just told, listen, pack everything up from that office, or that file cabinets, box it up we'll figure out where we wanna -- >> we do know that donald trump, and you mentioned it a couple minutes ago, he is his own worst enemy. he cannot shut up. he posted off on truth social, for example, that these were cool keepsake folders. that the gestapo, the fbi, took, when they raided mar-a-lago, quote. the marxist dogs, again, referring to federal law enforcement, would plan

documents when in possession of the material. he is admitted to have in possession, he's admitting to keeping things. now he's saying, well now he's lying, which is par for the course. does he keep on making emissions and confessions every time he opens his? mother prints on social -- >> he does that is incriminating evidence for prosecutors. one somebody who's the target of a criminal probe, which he clearly is, special counsel -- is investigating these precise crimes, the classified documents that mar-a-lago, everything he says, everything he poses what we call it a mission by a party opponent. it's not hearsay. it comes as a criminal information. when donald trump says on the one hand, the fbi planted them, on the other hand, okay. if they are there, already classify them with my mind the next post, well, you know, it was a bunch of empty folders. we know that to be untrue. all of this may play to a

that -- just to reiterate, the latest is 20, which is ten dead, and an additional ten wounded. take it to local trauma centers, ranging in condition from stable to critical. the scene, as you mentioned, has been static now for several hours. police holding the presence behind me. the expense of the scene, i'm not sure, haven't been back there, police are responding to chaos. as you mentioned, 10:22, responding to those shots fired, conducting triage, getting on scene, and now this hours long investigation with the male suspect still at large. they're telling, people they have any information, come forward contact police, and secondarily, remain vigilant. this is still a suspect. a person who is out there somewhere. this may be troubling, as you mentioned, because this is a heavily asian community. this is culturally significant, moderate, people coming here to

this morning, questions still remain regarding the integrity of the comp [interpreter] conducted by the supreme court over who leaked updraft of the dobbs decision back in may of last year. the decision may have overturned the constitutional right to an abortion. nbc news learning, that supreme court martial, guilt currently, did speak with each of the justices as a part of the investigation, but they did not have to sign a sworn affidavit. this contrasts with debbins of law [interpreter]

is no indication that she has and background in conducting investigations. she is who the supreme court asked to investigate this. when you talk about investigating without fear or failure, it sounds like she investigated with a whole lot of favoritism being shown the justices. the clerks, the staff, apparently, were grilled and have designed sworn affidavit adopted the penalties of perjury. they could get in real trouble if a lie. then, we learned that when -- interviewed or, whoever she had interviewed, the justices themselves, they didn't have to execute any affidavits. in essence, they cleared themselves. >> this was the marshal of the supreme court. this was the policing themselves. this dovetails, glenn. there was the prior allegation,
