49 points. that was the narrowest margin of victory for three pennsylvania democratic state legislatures, who won their special elections this week. the other two won the races by 50 and 75 points. for months on this show, we have been covering the chaos that ensued when due to a series of unexpected issues, three seats won by democrats in the november elections were left vacant. pennsylvania republicans took that opportunity to in effect, steal their way to a majority in the state house. clearly ignoring the will of the people by pretending that they had a majority while those seats remained unfilled. but now that those special elections have been held and the winner settled, it seems like eight more drama free environment will be coming into effect because democrats will now control the commonwealth's legislature for the first time in a dozen years as we mentioned earlier. and it is coupled with the fact

we begin this hour with our breaking coverage of a third unidentified object, shot down over north america and the last two weeks. canadian prime minister justin trudeau announcing that an object being tracked over canada's airspace who shot down earlier today by the united states. the decision was made in consultation with president biden. during a press conference that wrapped up a short time ago, canada's defense minister says that the object appears to be small and cylindrical. smaller than the surveillance balloon that was shot down over the coast of north carolina last week. this, as recovery operations are still underway following friday's takedown of, quote, another high altitude object that was flying over alaskan air space and alaskan waters. let's bring in my panel to break all of this down. -- a political strategist and host of the our mayers podcast.

waters -- and so we know that in a very contentious house that is split, that is divided, and in a divided congress, the one thing that we can have unity on is condemning anyone who would try to monitor our airways or send surveillance over them. >> how concerned are you by this because i think the question that is on a lot of people's mind is is this more frequent because something has changed all of a sudden and this is the new posture of the american government about objects in our air? or are we responding to something because of the politics in our country has changed and people are taking these positions? >> well, i think there is reason for concern because whether or not there has been a history of this type of surveillance activity, whether close to our shores or directly over american airspace, what is
6:05 pm
unprecedented is these types of shootdown activities, at least those that the american public are being made aware of and is being confirmed by the federal government -- i think there are two things that are needed, especially in light of three events in the last seven days. the first thing is, transparency. i think the time is coming soon where either president biden or the leaders of the national government on the military side need to address the american people in and give them a full briefing on what exactly is happening. because we are not accustomed to seeing these types of shoot downs, certainly, three and seven days. the second thing that i think is desperately needed is probably taking place as we are having this conversation. diplomacy. there needs to be a meeting of heads of state or diplomatic channels just to get to the bottom of what exactly is happening. the first shootdown was clearly involving chinese surveillance

equipment. there is suspicion that these last two might be as well. but that is not being confirmed. so, until we have more information, i think and i have that information expressed clearly to the american people -- and hopefully the diplomatic channels are trying to come to a consensus and make sure that this does not escalate into an even greater international incidents. that is why i think the concern is real. it is what i am hearing -- >> give me your thoughts. we don't know if these objects are at all connected. but do you think the shooting down of the last two objects is in part and overreaction because of how republicans reacted to the suspected chinese surveillance balloons? we could not escape this balloon for a week and we had all republicans banging on their chest that it should have been shot over alaska, montana, doesn't matter. should have been shot as soon as it entered american airspace. and now we suddenly shoot at everything that doesn't fly over american airspace? >> i think one thing we are
