to spend more time together. but later, not to give anythin away, but sam does find out th campaign is to keep teens from having access to birth control without their parent knowledge. she becomes upset, and it's so weird, because i wrote thi book 20 years ago. it rings even more true today, because women are being denied access two women's health care all over the place, and this i the thing that sam becomes enraged about. she is like, how can you expec this to be a family living together as a whole when you are separating one part of tha family and treating them not a equals she is furious about it an unfortunately, that's the on live tv. it causes friction with he boyfriend. but fortunately, it doesn't. >> it is wildly relevant despite the fact that the book was written so long ago. let's talk about the character of lucy, sam soldier sister, who talked to her abou contraceptive. among other things we find out lucy's deciding. he wasn't the one. but you thought he was, for long time.

you can't tell me you didn't you even told me he was your first! my first love, lucy said not my first, you know is lucy written and as a foil? >> lucy is kind of a character who chooses to wait. she chose to wait, because she felt the guy she was wit wasn't the right guy, and it wasn't the right time. whereas sam, as we find ou later in the book, althoug none of this is on the page, kind of decide this is the right guy, and it is the right time for her she makes all of the right choices that she should with the help of her older sister who is read a lot and has a lo of - friends who helps him out in that the part. mental, she will be able t consent safely and follo through with her actions without getting hurt this is really important it's important that people hav a lucie in their life, but luc 's choices are her own that's what's so important everybody has a choice at least, they did >> the point that a high schoo reader reads this book and it'
