well last week when all of thi kind of came into light. right now it seems as though based on what we're seeing and hearing. these two hours to lawmakers will be back in their old jo sooner than later. first stop, will be justin jones. as you mentioned, the nashvill metro council will be holding special meeting late tomorro afternoon. and right now at least 2 members are saying, look, they do want justin jones to ge back into the state house. as far as the othe representative, representative pierson, he represents memphis the shelby county commissioner are still kind of figuring out their timeline we're seeing reports that they could have a data as early a tomorrow we will kind of wait and see but obviously, these two men are part of the tennesse three. they've been very vocal ever since what happened, at the en of last week they did the media circuit really are this morning on the political shows, and on meet the press this morning we ask them, if they were to b reappointed, is this the job that they would take back. take a listen to this.

when i was growing up here i south carolina we have the sam challenge as in fact, i was on the night was 19 years old when i starte this track toward making m contribution to -- in the perfect union i started -- challenging unjust laws. and so to see these 2:27 yea old's take up this mantle, i think those of us who've had the experience knows what it's like and we're gonna have to do everything we possibly can t support them in fact, the night of the event, i spoke with justin jones on the phone. he reminded me, of us having math then oakland, california, with barbara lee when he was one of her interns he came to washington to wor for her, went to fis

university, and then went back to nashville to be part of having to make the changes tha need to be made. we need support. and i'm gonna do everything can possibly can to suppor these two young man. one of the things we need to understand, these -- interesting. shelby county, tennessee, shut -- in the state of alabama. these things are all interconnected, and if we star looking at the history, you're gonna find that the ways peopl who are doing this, saying these things are taking thei playbook out from the pages of history. i'm spending most of my spar time now going through the issue, that era of reconstruction i'm writing about this stuff now. and let me tell you, reading some of these accounts i

country needs to keep its eyes on us. do you see this becoming a larger movement that nee significant change >> absolutely right. doug is right about. that i'll tell, you i've bee studying the staff i'm studying now, somethin called a shoe stain district that came of south carolina in the 1880s. and 18 90s when south carolina was over 60% african american they brought us down to 20%, there was only one bac congressman when we had 60% of the population being black today, one black congressman i south carolina one from mississippi, one fo alabama, one for louisiana that's what it's coming down to none from arkansas. because of these laws. what we call gerrymanderin laws people keep looking at gerrymandering as if that' something that was done to

bring black folk into th process. no, that's not wha gerrymandering is about. it came about to keep blac folks out of the process when you gerrymander, sout carolina in such a way that fo 95 years, not a single african american was in congress for south carolina because o gerrymandering they did it in such a way to ensure that every congress person was way that's what this is all about. so, diagnose it. he's lived it in alabama and he's probably living i here in south carolina and now he's a bit older tha doug jones so i could tell, you this is going on for a long, long time congressman, i appreciate your passion. i want to ask you about a stor out of texas governor greg abbott is callin for a pardon for a u.s. army sergeant convicting of murde in the killing of garret foster who he shot while foster was protesting against polic brutality. the sergeant daniel perry clai

president trump. which according to new reporting from nbc news is taking the form of a long haul strategy focused on beatin trump in the battle to collect delegates during a fight for the nomination let's bring in one of th authors of that report matt dixon, nbc news reporter, matt, what can you tell us about this report and th strategy >> it's not so much that he' giving up on what you' consider the early states. but i think there is a considerate effort in people we've talked to that hav meeting in the effect -- walking through the idea i'm doing a long haul the wa that we can for a. matt there's delegates dates that are gonna come after th early states and i think some of th governors and trump supporters interpret the story is saying, giving up in the early states. i don't necessarily interprete it that way. but there's a thought proces in desantis's world. and some aligned super pacs. we may need to think about states beyond the ones that we go on a national delegat search >>, so rhonda sanchez advise

told us this about the delegat strategy here. there are multiple conversations about delegate and how they're picked i various states across th country. one thing we looked at is that trump can beat on the delegate portion of all this. he's never can be beat he's never been good at that can you explain some of th math >> two of the states that came up to us multiple times in the states - as new york in california. both of those states are considered general electio democrat blue territory. but they still have a lot of delegates. desantis has been doin relatively well compared t other states in polling in california nationally, there's a moment i time where post indictment trump is seeing a surge in public polling and his team is trying to figure out if that's going to stand for the lon haul or is it gonna be a sugar high meanwhile, desantis focuses ar looking at places like new york, california to dredge up as man delegates as they can in state

might not be this early in the conversation traditionally >> we know desantis, eve though he hasn't announced a official round we know what he's doing. it's a blueprint for what he says he'll do for the country. but at the same, time he needs to do so delicately. because of the maga base how does he make a case to them, all the while. former president trump will be under indictment without alienating them? >> yeah, it's definitely a blueprint. he made it part of the title o his book without question, he's not being subtle about that point. and to the idea of toeing th tightrope between doing what h wants to do, challenging president trump, but also no angering the intense trump mag base i think he really hasn't bee -- every pitch and, what i mean is he's - president trump has been a persistent critic and open critic of governor desantis. he's attacked him any number o times. desantis is occasionally got a little dig in when asked i directly by, large's team is making

it's been six months i hurricane ian struck illustrated florida. at least 149 people were kille in that state. the category four hurricane wa one of the strongest storm ever to hit the u.s. we rode the hurricane out in florida. and in the morning, the sunris over partially destroyed for myers beach. today, the city is still recovering the crowds are back at the beach, right next to a memoria for the victims. some businesses have reopened. but many structures are stil in ruin. people estimate only about a third alas of the people who lived here have been able to return we went back, we visited one o the families we met six months ago after they lost everything >> that the terrace family showed us this video christina their daughter, film the moments the family hel hands in a chain as they left their home lookin for safety and higher ground >> translator: he was crying
