a good saturday morning to you i am katie phang we start today's show with the supreme court once again weighing in on the fate of abortion rights. justice samuel alito is showin a temporary stay yesterday blocking a lower court order that imposed restrictions on mifepristone, a key abortion pill used in over half o abortions nationwide the move comes after a panel o judges from the conservative fifth circuit court of appeals ruled to limit access to tha bill patients were prohibited fro receiving the medication b mail and shortening the window within which it can be prescribed justice alito said the hol will remain in effect unti midnight on wednesday. joining me now with more o this development is nbc news investigative reporter chloe atkins good morning listen, wednesday is right around the corner. what can we expect to se

happen next? >> good to be with you, katie. as you eloquently laid out, th supreme court moved rapidl yesterday to preserve th status quo as it relates t medication abortion, giving th high court a little bit more time to consider the next step in the case. the plaintiffs in the case which are a group of antiabortion advocates and doctors, are also ordered or required, i should say, to respond by noon on tuesday we could see by mid week the scotus really giving us more insight on the future of mifepristone as this case play out. i do want to take a step bac and remind folks of the fact surrounding medication abortion medication abortion is a two pill regimen which is made u of mifepristone and misoprostol. when taken together, it' highly effective and highl safe it's been on the market fo over 20 years now. it has been used by millions o

is this -- there are about 115,000 school in america since columbine, up until this year, there were a total of, i think, 375 school shootings up until this year. the difference this year, it's the crazy policies that thes state governors are passin that are making it more likely i will give you an example her in florida as part of the legislation tha was just passed, they took wha was once a felony if you got caught on a schoolcampus wit a gun and they reduce it to misdemeanor. up until a few weeks ago i florida, if you got caught on school campus with a gun, yo were going to jail now, i don't know, you get a 1 dollar fine, whatever misty in misdemeanor finishes, an that's it if people want to know wh school gun violence and othe forms of gun violence are more likely, looked everyone on the

parking lot. he said, let's go to the hospital, let's go to th emergency room right now we went to the emergency room. i sat there in the waiting roo for an hour with amniotic flui is still dripping on the floor that alone was traumatizing. i had a little boy that wa there an ask his mom, mommy, what's happening to her? we had an ultrasound they sent me back for th ultrasound my daughter was still moving around and her heart was still beating but they told me tha at that point because i ha lost all my fluid there wa nothing that i could do. i looked at him and i said okay, what are you going to do are you going to - what are we supposed to do are we terminating >> we can't do anything. >> excuse me you can't do anything? what does that mean? >> we can't do anything. >> wait, i have to go home and wait it out?

i have to wait it out? he's like, unfortunately, i am so sorry you are sorry for what i'm going to have to deliver m daughter who will not be alive when she is born then what? where do i put her how do i transport her bac here what is my husband supposed to do in that situation how long will this happen from now? will this happen days from now i'm not a doctor i don't know when this is goin to happen. as i sat there and i looked at him and he looked at me and he said, i'm so sorry >> that's it >> that's it are you serious? that's it? you have nothing else to say t me you're not going to help me? the nurse comes and she is s angry. she just says, okay, i'm going to get out of here you can't help me anymore. there is nothing else that you can do for me. he said, i'm so sorry. i'm so, so sorry >> at the end, though, you

ended up not actually having the baby at home it was in a bathroom at work >> it was that a hair salon an i ended up going there because i said if i was going to die m mother wouldn't have to do m hair i would make sure that my hair was done for my mother that was so sad and so traumatic. i said goodbye to my mom tha morning because i wasn't sur if i was going to have m daughter on the way. the way -- when i went back home and researched pprom, i was like i'm going to die i might get sepsis i don't know how fast this i going to happen. when i was in the salon, something just told me, go i the bathroom i went in the bathroom and i sat down and i just felt something say, push. i heard her hit the water.

at that point, i had to call m husband because he was outside i called him and i said, babe, i need you to come inside. he came in and he said to me he's like, okay, what's wrong. i said, i think she is here. i can't look i will let you look. i will let you look. he looked and he said, okay, i see her. you have blood >> your hemorrhaging >> i started hemorrhaging. i didn't realize it becaus there was so much adrenaline going through me i didn't know what else to do. he just got on the phone and h call 9-1-1 they rushed in and they grabbe me they literally just had to gra so much cloth to hold in m blood. if you can just tense your bod up to hold the blood, if you released your body, you will continue to lose blood can you take me to coral springs? he said, you're not gonna make it a coral springs i said, okay i just blacked out at that

point. >> you also had pprom, the sam conditions, same situation >> on the same day as my frien anya >> the doctors wouldn't help you either >> my daughter was inside of m for ten days i went there three times we called a memorial hospital. it was a different conversation at least they will accept us we went there, it was the same thing. i was four centimeters dilated and they went me home. i said to the doctor, okay, my baby is very small i don't have to be ten centimeters dilated to deliver what should i do the doctor looked at me an told me, if my baby comes, i could use something to wra around the umbilical cord. >> you are supposed to wra something around the umbilical cord your baby wasn't viable anymore? >> i was looking at my husband like, are we going home to d this

this was december 21st i kept telling them that i was feeling contractions this - they sent me home. they sent anya home an everything on december 26th, that is when i started feeling severe pain. i started changing my sanitary napkin because i didn't want t end up with an infection my ob/gyn, she gave me her private cell number. there is nothing she can do. >> you got medical doctor is telling you, sorry, there' nothing we can do. did they share with you, any and shanae, did they say, it's because we are scared? we don't know what to do because of the abortion laws >> that's exactly what the said at coral springs, when i went, the doctor looked at me and he said, if i do anything or if i intervene, i will possibly b arrested >> i could lose my license >> or lose his license >> my ob/gyn wanted to send me
