distract >> totally on brand for th republican party it is great to see you m friend, enjoy the rest of your evening off. welcome to ayman tonight going on offense by handing d alvin bragg who's jim jordan accusing him of interferin with his investigation plus, taking apart his frivolous lawsuit agains trump's -- reproductive rights of the conservative supreme court once, again the outrageous ant abortion law just signed by ro desantis in florida. also, the tennessee three ar back in action, stat representative justin pearso should discuss is return to th state, legislator and gloria johnson will speak out on th issue that threatens their political futures. gun control. i am a man what he, let's ge started. here is one thing that we ar learning about manhattan district attorney, alvin bragg he is a fighter.
4:02 am
this week, in an extraordinary and aggressive move, bragg sue congressman jim jordan asking court to block parts of th republican-led house judiciary committee's inquiry into his investigation. the 50-page suit accuses jim jordan of a, quote unprecedentedly brazen and unconstitutional attack. it slams his requests as lacking the quote basi principles of federalism and common sense gragson turns called out jorda and his fellow republicans for carrying out a quote campaig of harassment against hi office now, the suit says that th d.a.'s office has received mor than 1000 calls and emails fro trump supporters, many of whic are threatening and racially charged in nature. bragg's attorneys also asked the court to quash the subpoen sent to former assistant dea mark pomerantz, whose testimony, they say will cause, quote imminent irreparable harm to brags investigation.
4:03 am
the judge in the case, a troubled pointy, declined to block enforcement of tha subpoena she did, however, orde jordan's lawyer to respond t the lawyer by this monday, april 17th and she put hearing on the books for april 19th, two days later. look, it is unclear whether ji jordan is going to respond i time, because, quite frankly he might be preoccupied with a field hearing his committee is holding that very same day right here in manhattan. yes, the circus is coming to town on monday, republicans wil hold cote a puddle hearing called victims of violent crim in manhattan, which will examine how alvin bragg's pr crime, anti victim policies -- >> it is no surprise, new york city has been the target o republican ire for decades according to the gop, blue cities like new york are jus

4:06 am
before anybody else. that is the law of our land. so it is a ridiculous, he is right when he says that this i an unprecedented kind of subpoena he is right to do that, and think ultimately the court will say that he does not have to testify, nor does pomerantz because the we have an interview with the same ongoin investigation. he is trying to protect th rights of anyone under investigation, they have a right to secrecy for all of th information that is gathered and in their trial >> the right place to challeng it is once they get indicted and then you can challenge anything that is happening i the court, in that case, i that is the only appropriate place to challenge it. >> matthew, there was a little bit of irony here sprinkle throughout all of this bragg the in his law partner's make repeated reference to thi case that we all remember very well, the trump versus mazar
4:07 am
usa case, and the supreme cour decision to affirm that whil congress actually has a righ to issue subpoenas in it investigation, it does not hav in on limited right. in the irony here is tha republicans spent year ignoring oversight efforts fro the house when democrats wer in control and i can't help bu wonder, is it coming back to bite them now? >> well, let's just add that jim jordan did not honor a subpoena to himself in the course of all of the investigations and he want other people to honor subpoena i'm old enough to remember which was not long ago, th idea that republicans supporte federalism the idea that republican wanted the federal governmen out of the way of states and local jurisdictions. that was not long ago and that was the republican mantra. now, because of what's happene around the country and while the country changes. republicans want to put thei theme in place, throughout
4:08 am
whatever it, is whether it i in place from the presidency when trump had it, or now in the house of representatives as we see this unfold in the course of this, it is amazin to me, and just from a press political standpoint, wh republicans continue to want t litigate donald trump an highlight it, is an amazin political thing. they did not learn their lesso in 2020, they did learn lesson in 2022, but they can't seem to let go of. they can't seem to let him go. >> we're gonna talk about that later in the show, and, david, i started this program b saying that the one thing we are learning, about alvin brag is that he is a fighter. he is not backing down fro what we are seeing with thes republican tactics and i'm wondering, is there big takeaway from the democrats, should they take a note from bragg's playbook, fighting fir with fire, should they be more aggressive in the face of this republican interference?
4:09 am
>> what we see here is jim jordan, who shares the committee called the weaponization of governmen actually weaponizing government he is weaponizing congressiona oversight, trying to get in th way of a local law enforcement issue. and i think, you know, i don't think bragg has much of choice here. this is jim jordan, with a political stunt coming right out at him so he is pushing back, because he has to preserve his own authority in his own legitimacy and i think, in general, i think the democrats in the las few months, as we start th republican congress, they ar really not mulled over well fo these bogus hearings and investigations about, whethe it is the deep state conspirin with twitter to diss elect donald trump, all of these things they have come up with. it has been one bust after another. one p r disaster after another and that - math is right. the gop, whether it is on gu safety, reproductive rights, o
4:10 am
donald trump, it keeps stickin itself with a knife. i mean, the polling is there donald trump has not bee popular the last three, four elections. he won one barely. but the keep going back. and it is close to the way tha we've been talking about for years now. it seems to be that the gop is a cult we are protecting and advancin and winning, for the love of donald trump is the only thing they really care about >> jill, as i mentioned, we ar expecting a choice on this cas next week. walk us through the next step. what does it mean for jordan's vegetation in the meantime >> well, what's interesting is the answers are due on wednesday, and there is subpoena, now supposedly, fo pomerantz for thursday so the court is going to hav to act really quickly for it t be impactful
4:11 am
and what's next is we have t wait and see how the court decides whether the subpoena i valid or not valid, and whethe the witnesses can be called. and there is a big differenc of putin calling witnesses for an actually valid reason for congressional oversight. which, we have to note, as mat did, that they, the republicans, ignored all of the norma oversight subpoenas during the entire term. so they keep on doing that that does not mean tha democrats have done that o that they will do that, but it does mean that it can't be compared to a frivolou subpoena the -- states have independen prosecutions that are not part of our federal government. and the federal government can look at money that is spent an donated from them, but that is assigned to the states
4:12 am
but not only that, they cannot look they cannot look at particular evidence for an particular trial the. let's see this judiciary field hitting, and the irony of th fact that congressman jordan wanting to call out max crim policies and he is the one literally running interference for an alleged criminal in donald trump >> another example like, let's abandon federalism, okay, done let's abandon that won, order, okay check, we are going to abandon that in the course of this and i think your point getting into this, the facts is, not only has columbus has thre times the crime rate that ne york city does he actually hometown and where jim jordan's from has a higher crime rate of small town has a higher crime rate in new yor city in the course, it has eight of the top ten crime rat states in america are re states
