take months or even longer joining me now is nbc news investigative reporter, chlo atkins chloe, good morning. thanks for starting us off conservative justices clarence thomas and samuel alito were the only two justices to publicly support keeping those restrictions on th mifepristone in place. justice alito went so far as t write a dissent. what was the reasoning behin his logic? >> good to be with you, katie. as you eloquently laid out, th supreme court moved yesterda to preserve the status quo which means mifepristone, that abortion pill, will remain widely accessible in state where abortion is accessible and a post-roe v. wade world while the supreme court ha preserved access to th abortion pill, alito, like you said, issued a dissent sayin the fda and a pill manufacture we're not able to prove they would have been harmed in th interim. and these regulatory changes made since 2016 would not have kept mifepristone from being accessible however, the fda and the pil

should because of th recklessness around guns even our own mayor and polic chief has asked my legislative colleagues do the right thin in the past reasonable, common sense legislation around gun violence, and gun reform and they refused to do it. i will say that all of m constituents who are still voting for the republicans they need to take their dollar and their votes somewhere else and vote for people who ar actually going to keep the safe, because my colleagues ar now creating an unsafe, stat where people don't want to com here but what i want to encourage m constituents is, to not give up continue to vote continue to speak out. continue to show up. because a change will come we are having a specia session. the governor is listening. so hopefully, we can't get mor of our republican colleagues o board now that session is over in between now and the special session, to look at th research, talk to families, an at least show some compassio and grace to make sure we ar keeping our state safe tennessee has a lot of great

15 amendments, because las year's bill and this year' bill have significant if you and they fell on deaf ears you have ana and shown they, within that he spoke about o the floor. i filed an amendment to protec women like anya and shanae they didn't debate it. they fell on deaf ears, an they voted against it. that is because what i happening here in the state of florida now and last year is that doctors are afraid to perform essential medical care to their patients. when you talk about tanya an shanae, they have -- on yet was forced to deliver her dead baby on a toilet seat in a hair salon. she went to the hospital she begged for care. but doctors are afraid in th state of florida right now they are a flight of a third degree felony. they are afraid of what is going to happen to them. we have debris from lake land, who had potters syndrome the doctor didn't even make th decision it was the hospital. so, we have doctors in florida

floridians do not want thi bill we know this bill is bad for women. it's bad for families. look, i had a very much wanted pregnancy. i went through infertility t get pregnant, because i wanted that baby, and i was told ahea a fatal fetal abnormality. a fetal abnormality. i have to make a decision. you know what? it was the worst decision ever had to make in my life. i had legal paths. do i go through the pregnancy? why not go through with th pregnancy? i prayed every single day. but desantis, the florid legislature, they do not belon in that room with me they did not belong -- they didn't have a spot on tha legal path, and now, they have inserted themselves into every exam room, into every house, into every family's personal business it is -- people don't wake up and say, want to have an abortion never in 1 million years did i ever think i would contemplate having an abortion but it's a reality that someon

has to face, and that is their personal decision. no one belongs in that room. no one has a right to make tha decision for them. and as you saw on the floor, the majority of people who debated were republican men. they don't even have uteruses! they're telling us what to d with our bodies. even now, i get so emotional because my daughters are wakin up in the state of florida wit fewer rights then when the were born. so, i need the women of florida, the republican women independent women, the democratic women, to wake up you know, elected desantis overwhelmingly in this state and he just took away your right to reproductive freedom. >> representative, what are yo telling your constituents when they express fear to you about what they're going to be abl to do now? i'm not suggesting you are a medical provider in any way, but i'm sure they're asking you, you are battling this battle

for them in tallahassee. you're trying to make sure tha their rights, individual rights, are protected, to be able to choose these decisions very quickly, can you tell u what you are telling you voters >> well, first of all, i'm telling them right now, unti the court decision is made they still have access to an abortion up to 15 weeks. and they need to continue to reach out to florida planned parenthood we have another scheme operating here in florida, and they are called pregnanc centers. if you drive down the florid turnpike, there are actually billboards all over that say call if you are pregnant when you go to these pregnancy centers, their whole purpose i to convince you not to get a abortion the shame you. they tell you, this is not wha you should be doing. so, i'm telling them, be smart go to a florida planne parenthood don't go to one of these clinics that are going to tr to talk you out of it. they're going to embarrass you they're going to tell you that you're going to tell you parents, because they're not medical providers. there's no confidentiality whe

steven, i saw you a couple o days ago in wilmington i do want to say congratulations again on the outcome, but look, for a few days out now from th settlements. there has been criticism ove not going forward with the trial to verdict, some outlets calling it a split decision, a win for rupert murdoch, on headline saying fox news los the lawsuits, but won the war. but let's be clear, i'm former trial lawyer as well. you were in the trenches for this legal battle from the ver beginning. so, what is your response to those critics? >> look, i understand people's disappointment that we didn' have a trial, that we were all preparing to go through. but i think what i hope people understand when they sit bac and think about this i dominion and dominion's owners including john kudos and - they wanted accountability and they wanted justice for th company and they didn't settle this case last year. that was very important to them they were not ready to settl this case last year. what they wanted was to get th truth out, and as you know katie, being a trial lawyer,

the truth is usually in th documents. you don't often get people o the stand breaking down an admitting that they committe the crime. so, we got those documents out of the filings we did earlie this year. well over 600 documents, internal documents, texts, and emails that is what really proved, as we were going to show at trial that we showed at judgment that is proof that fox knowingly spread these lies. they were saying one thing behind there's closed doors an telling their viewers somethin completely different and false so, i think we were no intending, i was not intending to settle this case on the eve of trial the intended to do my openin statement that they, and t move forward but both goals, dominion accomplish both goals. they got accountability throug getting those documents ou into public record, and they got justice and some measure o compensation for the company i the largest known defamation settlement in american history >> and i can vouch, stephen. you are wired up and ready t go you are miked up, about to d the opening statements

but let's stick for one more question about this issue of the settlement we don't have an on air apolog from fox news for it dissemination and endorsemen of these false election claims but the network did issue written statement that read, i part, we acknowledge the court rulings finding certain claims about dominion to be false this next sentence drives me nuts, the settlement reflect foxes continued commitment t the highest journalistic standards. putting aside that secon statement, stephen, to you point, strategically, dominion didn't settle before those documents. that evidence released for public consumption, until we got that order on those motion for summary judgment clearly stating, or judge davis, sai it's crystal clear what wa said about dominion was false. does the fact that that writte statement from fox, combined with that 787.5 million dollar settlement, achieve th accountability your client o seeking? i know the ceo of dominion wrote an op-ed for the new yor times saying it's still kind o bittersweet for him.

>> it's definitely bittersweet it accomplish the goal, katie, when we talk about an apology, getting an apology for a settlement, you know this having been a trial lawyer an apology forced to a settlement is hollow it's pretty meaningless. so that was not, at least in m view, an important part of this even if you got fox to make th apology once on each of thei shows, i don't think tha would've changed very much o anything for fox viewers what fox viewers need to see i the truth over and over agai on major news, like th election in 2020 we couldn't force that through a lawsuit. if we had won the lawsuit at the end of the day and gotten massive judgment, fox didn't have to cover its. the court wasn't going to forc them to broadcast an particular thing on their air. in my mind, fox news had t apologize. fox knows how to tell th truth. the internal documents that we exposed in this lawsuit prov that fox news have to tell the truth. but no outside forces going to force them to do that. >> let's talk about that

on to be able to have this conversation talk to my viewers about the importance ofusing this mont to highlight the experiences o people who have been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. >> so, i think it's really important for us to know tha throughout diversity i something that is very muc coming into awareness now that lots of people think differently and it's totally okay to. that's why it's so important t have this month to really be able to think about consciously, some of the things that people with different disabilities go through and folks that are neurodiverse go through. i think is really importan that we have this month to d that i really appreciate yo actually putting it in the highlight. >> of course and i was noticing the statistic. i wanted to share with you that cdc is reporting as well tha are estimated 5.5 million of american adults have bee diagnosed with autism.

you yourself were diagnosed at the age of 22. how has that later diagnosis impacted your life, if at all? >> i think one of the bigges things was obviously seeing al of the things just kind of mak more sense, right? once i received my diagnosis, was actually relieved. to understand why i thought certain way, how things work with my own brain, and also, some of the things that i like about myself that we'r actually what people might see as part of being on the autism spectrum disorder. and i think one of the things personally felt was importan was to destigmatize and really be open with my story, because a lot of times, people have stigma when it comes to bein diagnosed with asd >> there's one recent studie

have shown autism can go unnoticed in adults. it's because they are really good at masking. the studies have also show women in particular will wor extra hard to hide their autistic traits. did you also experienced thi as you were growing up >> i think that was part of wh i wasn't diagnosed i -- that was probably also part of the statistics, right? the fact of the matter is, women and girls often tend t not be diagnosed due to th fact that they are better at social masking which, i think, folks probably also should know that bein forced to mask and being force to socially mask anti certai stemming behavior, et cetera actually have been proven to cause depression and exited an so i think that is reall important that folks are knowledgeable about some o those things >> you've also talked openly about how identifying as being neurodivergent means you'v constantly had to carve ou

space for yourself and for others to have a seat at the table. tell the fireworks how important it is for th disabled and neurodivers communities to be a part of th legislative process? >> i think a lot of times, whe we're talking about certai disabilities, it's really easy to erase or certain people don't have to think abou certain things, because they have a privilege not to an that is why it's so importan for folks with different perspectives and different lenses to be able to bea representative in office, to b representative at the table and, this is the only way we will b able to have that kind o access that we deserve people don't really think abou certain needs. for example, i think this is a lot more blatant, right. for example, using sig language when you have hearings using certain things that will help disability communities. you need to also be able to be part of our government process and this is something i am constantly talking about because it is so important for us different ways of thinking, or

also, one of the things that really, people don't realize actually have an impact. if you are on certai medications for adhd, fo example, you would have an issue with trying to get pregnant, trying to -- you have to get off certai medications to be able to th able to get pregnant or, go through ivf therapy, go through any of these things. people that really sees things unless we talk about them, and these are also things we hav to make sure that people hav access to in policy, right people have to understand ho to make sure that people hav access to health care in policy, access to services in policy and we have noticed that a lot of students are able to ge certain care because they ar not diagnosed properly, or the are diagnosed, you know, jus specifically for care. >> i want to thank you yuh-line niou, for sharing you journey and experiences with u during this very important
