to determine how serious thi is in terms of the damag assessments. what have compromised. so, i think that the story well it certainly has garnered a lot of attention of the last week, we are probably not goin to know the full extent fo weeks and months to come >> all right, if you can begin for as a real kind of damage assessment from what we know because we are looking at th 100 and intelligence weekend they have been told to stand down in their intelligence mission. other areas as, well other units as well have bee directed to reassess their security amidst this leak. what damage do you think has been done specifically t intelligence, and security overall? >> so, it is a great question. and because at first i think a lot of people were saying this might be worse than the snowde leaks where there were hug security agency surveillance programs compromised i don't think at this point it is as bad as that. it seems to me that this is an

individual who had what is called administrative access t department of defens documents. documents that went into the chairman joint his daily brief and so, these are serious bu they are not the keys to the kingdom. they are not the crown jewel of the most sensitive of human intelligence but still serious. and i think what is the on thing that is most disturbin is, for example, if we are talking about reports that detail information from single intelligence can the russians or others g back into some forensics and maybe lose those streams o access so i would say it is serious not as bad as several years ag in snowden and, again i am sure that thos story is going to evolve ove the weeks to come. >> you talk about his access and i know secretary austin ha issued a metal asking people t review security access and how in fact intelligence like this is secured but when you are kind of takin a look at the bigger picture o this thing, mark, what doe

this do to how you are viewe when it comes to intelligenc on the world stage >> well,, look intelligenc versus around the world know these things happen. you don't throw stones i glasshouses. so our allies are pointing fingers at us. in a sense, because othe countries have these spice panels leaks like this. it is not a spite panel, tha is important no one of the things that is most interesting in this cas is, in the past when we have seen things like this it is spy. someone is working for another country or it is a whistle blower in their mind this is different. this is an individual who look to be a narcissist who i showing off. and so i think that when you look at our background investigation process, how w clear people for top secre information, how we say it i okay for them to hav continuing access, we are goin to take into account perhaps different motivations. and i think that is what doj i really looking at right now. >> got it can you talk to me quickl and about what you mean abou different motivations? are you talking about kind of

psyche found of people who are being hired from day one, an what kind of vulnerabilities they have that would motivat them to do something like this >> sure, absolutely. so you go through extensiv psychological questioning an even some testing. there are things such as polygraph. the department of defens doesn't use that as extensivel as others. but, again, it is not a simple question like in the past, are you a communist? they have that during the cold war. or do you have sympathies with terrorist groups this is totally different. it is to get someone psychological profile. so i think we're gonna have to take into account that generation z is going to b entering into the national security realm and they migh have some differen vulnerabilities as what we thought about previously >> marc polymeropoulos, as always edge is great to talk t you. all right, new details about the harrowing experiences of some who fled china, including refugees who say that they wer subjected to torture the allegations of chinese secret police stations addin
