city is unsafe this is your home, where you represent, my mother grew up here on monday, jordan had the hous judiciary committee hold a field hearing in manhattan i order to attack the manhatta district attorney alvin bragg, part of his ongoing attacks on him, it's fair to say. arguing that his policies an focus on indicting trump has led to more crime. what is your response to jorda and this argument? >> well, first and foremost, i is a complete abuse of power for jim jordan to lead a congressional, a federal congressional hearing into municipal decisions. the reason he is abusing his power is because he has decide that his main job is to defend one individual, which is forme president trump, and not t represent his constituents o his district every municipality has the right to govern as they see fit, and it is not the federa government's responsibility to go in and micromanag

individual prosecutors on municipal level. that being said, his claim around safety, while every cit has their challenges what we are seeing in the cities tha jim jordan represents have fir higher incidents of violence than new york city does. and if we are actually concerned about crime, what we need to do is get guns off o streets. and because jim jordan and republican party does not want to address the crisis that i gun violence in america, the want to engage in a pursuit of political intimidation on th people who actually want t hold people accountable. >> in the midterms, hous republicans primarily ran on the economy, inflation, bu since they gain the majority o their focus has been primarily on investigations, stalkin culture worlds, this week they passed a transgender sportsman in schools one, what do you think of that but also, how would yo describe their vision? >> well, the reason republican

are so focused on these cultur wars, and they are so fixate on trans americans and lgb american and they are fixated on wha women do with their bodies i because they do not have a pla to improve the lives of workin people across the country. they just don't. we haven't heard a singl hearing or an idea that woul fundamentally make peoples material lives better. they have no plan on healt care, they have no plan on our economy. in order to distract from thei lack of preparation and thei lack of vision they are trying to attack some of the most vulnerable americans in this country. >> speaker mccarthy, in orde to become speaker, had to cu sums deals, we are one of th details on all of them do you think he's actually running his caucus or do you think someone else is >> he is not

maritime in the bronx, they ar breaking ground on an offshore wind workforce development program, something you secured funding for. you have an enormous platform, you have since you were elected. why is the climate crisis issu you spent so much politica capital on >> i think up until now, u until very recently, it's been very difficult to generate political momentum aroun addressing climate change, especially on the scale that w need to be addressing it on. and there are so many issues that are so critically important, and we are very likely to have very strong political coalitions i know that when i was running this was something that wa just beginning to emerge, that same kind of political force and saliency around addressing the climate crisis so now it continues to be really important priority, not just for me but i think fo many policy makers, because we

also have to handle this in way that actually addresses th injustices that working clas people and communities of colo have faced in the crime of places, as well. >> you just reintroduced the green new deal when you talk about bi expensive programs that's wher you sometimes hit resistance, think. how do you convince thos people, people who believe climate change is real, it is crisis, but they are concerned that some of these proposa solutions are to grant our o too expensive. >> i think it is important t acknowledge that the scale and the scope of what we are proposing is massive but, the scale and the scope o the climate crisis is even bigger and if we are not proactiv about very aggressively an transformational addressing ou infrastructure, our workforce, our preparation for the climat crisis, then the cost of not addressing it are going to b far greater.
