arraignment, we'll have more what they heard from the maga -- plus, president biden sticks by the plan to avoid the indictment of as he kicks off his campaign. i'll talk to jennifer mcclelland a member of the presidents campaign advisor board about that strategy -- to keep an eye on the severe weather impacting millions of people on this father's day. a live reporter in just a couple of minutes as well. we want to begin the with the latest fallout from the indictment of donald trump. although special counsel jack smith's call for a speedy trial has been met with skepticism. some action on the case has already begun. this week smith filed a restaurant -- to the public. meanwhile judge aileen cannon disrupted lawyers -- will not taught to obtain clearance to view the highly classified documents at the center of this case. i want to bring in now to talk more about this national security bradley moss. bradley, thank you for joining us on this.

one of the reasons for jackson did not want to jump to talk about evidence scenes obvious. but trump was also saying, mid was saying that they can take information pertaining to ongoing investigations. that could quote, identify uncharged individuals. we know jack smith is also investigating january six as well. there's been talk a possible charges in new jersey, bedminster, where he showed classified documents, we learned that in a 45-page indictment. what do you think about some of the statements from the special counsel? >> some of this was somewhat standard. for tequila early, the nature of the protective order. this is a national security case. this is gonna be classified information at play. it's gonna implicate the classified information procedures act. which will oversee how this is all handled given the various classified documents at play. that's why judge cannon required that --

security clearances. that's why the protective orders in place. they didn't even object to that. park they knew that that was gonna go through. the other parts that we got though from jack smith, this thing about details under investigation and other uncharged individuals. that raises the question, is there someone particularly at pork. meadows comes to mind, what he may have taken, what he housed. anyone else tied to the inner trump world. who was part of this obstruction scene that was alleged by jack smith, would that evidence outline, reflect what might potentially be charges coming down the road against those individuals. it could simply have been some overplay language, but it hinted that there's more potential indictments against other people coming. >> so, answer this for me. when we look at the transparency of the trial in our future. there's been a lot of calls for full transparency, as we all know ambled sides of this, there's a lot of distrust the justice system overall. specifically, when it comes to

this special counsel and how the judge is gonna play things out. if you have judge aileen cannon asking for the attorneys from both trump and nauta to get security clearance to view the documents that they need to view. to oversee this case, how would that then speak to, and play transparency with the trial? is it out of the realm of possibility? >> i don't expect any excessive, and the extra transparency coming from judge cannon beyond what the standard rules in some, in southern florida permit and require in that courthouse. the issue with the clearances isn't unnecessary part of this. that was gonna be if cam and granted part of a pretrial discovery issue because of the classified information. they need to provide some measure of access. at least to the attorneys, if not walt nauta and mr. trump as well as part of discovery, and procedures in place. that's why cpi, the federal law

that -- but when it comes to the idea of cameras being in the courtroom, of live tweeting, at the moment it doesn't sound like she's necessarily gonna be in the mood for any of that. we'll see. i know there's media push for that, it would make it interesting. but people are looking for the second coming of oj's trial. i don't think you're gonna see that in this case. >> well, it's not just interesting. i gotta say i was outside federal courthouse in miami. i talked to a lot of different people. both democrats and republicans if they shared anything in common it was wanted to see what happened in that court. not because of the drama of it all. and watching the former president of the united states be indicted on federal charges. but because of holding people accountable. and seeing how this process plays out. >> yeah, you wouldn't think that given those obvious public interest factors that there would be greater transparency. we haven't seen it yet.

the magistrate pushback on some of the efforts to do that in the enrollment, we'll see what judge cannon does when it comes before on a separate motion by various organizations. i believe nbc news is one of them. to try to open this up. but ironically, the person that don't want this to be livestreamed, cameras, and everything is kind of be the criminal defendants, mr. trump and mr. nauta, they don't want the public to be able to watch all that. in color, with the audio, and all that because it would put it in much more greater effect then what a piece of paper does, what people don't tend to read in detail. seeing it, nothing can compare to what we saw with the oj trial, decades ago. and what that brought into americans homes, doing that in this case would be very damaging for the criminal defendants. even if they potentially work out a hung jury in the end. which would be their best hope. i don't think they want that level of transparency. >> bradley moss, thank you, we appreciated. we're following breaking news everybody. we're learning more about a

shooting that took place last night at a juneteenth celebration and wilbur, of. an unknown number of >> -- from multiple weapons into a crowd killing one victim and injuring 22 others. at this time there are no suspects in custody. and no known motive for this attack. we'll keep an eye on this and bring you any developments. let's talk weather, there's been extreme weather across this country over the last couple. today's for monitoring this round of storms set to hit the gulf coast area this afternoon into the evening. right now 40 million people are considered at risk, low amounts of rain, hail, heavy winds are expected to move eastward. these storms are coming days after a massive deadly tornado hit the town of perryton, texas, near the oklahoma border. with that i want to bring in nbc's -- and perrytown, is the sound towns aiming to continue with recovery efforts as well. jay, take us there and how are things looking? >> yes, gas, been getting

better you wouldn't believe the work they've done in the brief few days to clean things up. i'm in the middle of what used to be a home design center and prairieton. you can see not a lot left here, a lot of splintered wood, shattered glass broken, bricks, murder. but as tornadoes you can see it looks like it had an effect. you have samples that remain with everything around this torn down. the unit was here for a few minutes, we talked with him, he said he sent folks home about 15 minutes before the storm hit. they closed the doors and got out. no question he likely saved supplies, this place is justin ruin right now. let's talk a little bit about the effort underground. they had to stop things overnight or late yesterday because of strong winds and a system of heavy rain that moved through the area. today, thankfully, it's allowed

teams to get in and clear away what they can, move things out of the way. but the sheriff says is that there in a twofold process right. now, first ensuring that the hundred or so people who lost their homes have a place to stay. and for many, that's gonna be an extended stay. there are some areas where the homes are just gone. there is nothing left. they're gonna have to find a place to stay. and then you have the effort to clean things up. that's moving as quickly as you can imagine. there's still a lot of work to be done. -- it's still an issue. less than 1000 though without power at this point. and that's in just some of the hardest hit areas. what's to come, unfortunately, it looks like some severe heat. the state of texas is gonna be dealing with that heat over the next several days. and they have planned ahead of that. they have a cooling center that's been sent up in the area to help some of those deal with those conditions as they work out of what the tornado left behind. >> a lot going on there.

chris christie have drawn a great red line, saying that these are serious allegations of the president's conduct has been egregious and illegal. mike pence is trying to watch, walk this very interesting and crooked tight rope. suggesting you can't defend the president. but also attacking -- also attacking the department of justice. we have people like tim scott, ron desantis, who decided they're gonna run against donald trump by embracing his campaign of obstruction of justice and delegitimizing the criminal justice system. >> so, mike pence, i'm glad you brought him. up the plates of the sound in the last hour. talking more about policy she's at which he's diverging from the former president. first and foremost, it was ukraine. where you talk to my colleague sean todd saying without -- without saying that the former president's rooting for vladimir putin versus bottle there is a line ski.

he also mentioned the former presidents positioning on the debt, i want to play that for you and then we will talk. >> donald trump's position on the national debt is identical to joe biden's. and to may the republican party has to be the party of growth and fiscal responsibility and reform. >> he served in the administration, he was the former vice president of the united states under donald trump. and now he's going after him on policy. is this a way to go on this? >> it's a whole lot of cognitive dissonance from mike pence. he's trying to make a calculation that he can run to the right of donald trump. that assumes that there is still a reagan night republican party. this sounds very pre 2016. a lot of what these candidates do, what they want to do, of course is to present themselves

as an alternative to donald trump. without antagonizing the trump base. it's interesting that mike pence is distancing himself on a lot of things, he was super credible but the conduct in the confidential document. case but he's unable to push far enough away to carve out a segment of the electorate, which is why it's so strange watching a former vice president of the united states run for president with single digit support in the polls. i'm gus not sure how that's going to change for mike pence. >> you have chris christie, desantis really not using the former president's name ongoing after ham. then you have chris christie, growing after than sass in -- donald trump and he's using his name. a lot of folks are not optimistic that chris christie is gonna measure to any polling, or percentage and break out of

this thing. all that being said does he have a chance. we're so far out, we cannot say this enough. >> right, he's very unlikely that chris christie is gonna run this nomination. i don't think it will happen. but he caught interesting numbers in new hampshire. he's getting a little bit of a bump. i think the importance that chris christie campaign is whether or not he's gonna succeed in inflicting damage on donald trump. he could be a great candidate if in fact he can draw blood from the predator of the republican party. and that seems to be one of his goals. i don't think there's gonna be a debate, i don't think donald trump will ever allow himself to be on the stage with chris christie, but chris christie is hitting hard, he's carving out very specific rain in this primary so far. >> you gotta love slices, it doesn't matter how much time laugh, chris christie's not getting it. thank you so much.

four more years. that's his message. he was talking about jobs, he believes there going in the right direction. inflation, he believes that's going in the correct direction as. while he talked about some of his key legislative priorities, things like the inflation reduction act, the infrastructure bill, some of the signal signature priorities uncle used to campaign over the next few years. here's what he said, yesterday. >> you've carried the country on your back, you carried long enough. it's time for millionaires, billionaires, big corporations to pay their fair share. i can get that done. i need you badly. are you with? >> now we saw president biden in philadelphia, or not gonna see him over the next few weeks and months is iowa, or new hampshire, south carolina. some of those early primary states. -- rose garden strategy they're calling. it where he's gonna legislate, he's gonna be president something that others in the

psaki say, for now. is there are up turning point in which the president does need to speak up about these indictments, or do you stay out of the political fray? for this time? >> this is a legal matter that the court will sort out, whether the former president is guilty or not. the allegations are very serious. president biden is focused on what he and vice president harris have done for the american people. and what they'll continue to do for the american people. look, my own special election, or i go to perform and -- for special elections. they prove that people want something to vote for. they want to know what you've done for them. and what you're going to do for them. and that's what we need to focus on. >> and it's interesting because the folks that are voting for the former president they also don't necessarily want to hear about this indictment despite the fact that the actually

support him through it, wondering how that's gonna play against him as he's talking about a campaign trail. tim scott set on the morning shows today, he's trying to be president of the united states as we will. no which he filed -- fire all doj leadership. what do you make of that? >> at the end of the day the allegations against the former president are extremely serious. the court system will sort it out whether he's guilty or innocent. he's entitled to the same due process as any other criminal defendant. that's separate from what we need to do going forward to run this country and the department of justice that is empowered to do its job is important. -- and to uphold the law of the land. we are a nation of laws. and the rule of law is critically important. anyone running for president indicates they want to use doj

as their alone political sandbox probably shouldn't be president. >> a lot of your colleagues, i was speaking to leanne caldwell from the washington post in the past hour, republicans in the house essentially are gonna be going after the doj, fbi as wall, especially when it comes to funding so on and so forth. our real attack on the overall justice system and we see it happen and we know it's gonna happen the reportings telling us it's gonna happen. what can democrats to do to protect the department of justice? >> i think democrats need to uphold the rule of law. democrats see to ensure that all of our federal agencies have the resources, the independents do their job whether it's the doj, or the department of energy. republicans can't win on their ideas, or on their policies then they go to the circus. lead donie to get bogged down

are happening all around the country for juneteenth. the nation's newest federal holiday. -- when enslaved black texans for scott word of their freedom back in 1865. more than two years after the emancipation proclamation was signed. nbc's -- in the nation's capital and joins us now. take us there if you well, marissa, tell us how things are going and in terms of what you're hearing the conversation folks are happening around you? >> absolutely.

we'll get to the national park. the national scope in a second. i want to explain what you're seeing behind me here. you mentioned were and georgetown, along the waterfront of the nation's capital. there's boats behind me over my shoulder here in a little bit they're gonna kick off an event for juneteenth. the idea being that they wanted to remind people of the history, of not just d.c., but along the waterfront this is a place that was manned, they were black americans that were manning the docs that were, they were black captains, they're expecting a big turnout here on the water. a lot of boats here. when it comes to juneteenth thing to remember here is that it is some very new federal holiday. it was only recognized in 2021. typically, before that this was more of a grassroot celebration. among black friends, black families, but now it's growing into something much larger that's recognized with events that are happening across the country. including right here in georgetown. we spoke to an organizer and people showing up about the nuance of the state. there's very gainful roots of

course and why this day came to beat began. left but they want to draw and drive the conversation forward on what it means going forward. >> i think it's also important that although we have endured a great deal of trauma in this country, and we still do, we also deserve to celebrate ourselves, we also deserve to not have everything bisson tie to the hardship. there's a ridge part of our culture that should be celebrated and acknowledge more. and sometimes we need to do that for ourselves. there's more joy in being a mock american. i take a huge amount of pride in that. >> something that we heard a lot today is celebrating black excellence. and that's something that we're seeing in all kinds of events. whether it's this one that's just starting here along the georgetown waterfront. our other events, there's a parade happening in philadelphia this weekend, other parts of the country. you mentioned how we're looking forward. this is a good day to have that kind of conversation.

especially since 2020 the racial reckoning of that summer. the reparations are a big part of the conversation that are happening in advance across the country right now. it's important to take stock for the stance. we're on the precipice of a groundbreaking report that's gonna be released by the california reparations task force. it's happening june 29th, they expect to years doing research with economist take a look at what exactly that would look like. and who would qualify. and how much money would go out to those who would qualify. and california would sort of provide the roadmap for that, jasmine, we know that on june 29th we're gonna have that huge report released. and that will then go to the california assembly who would then decide how much would go to those who qualify. and those who qualify would fall into the category of those who are direct descendants of black slaves in the state of california. are those who can prove that they were descendants of black americans who lived in the state before the 1900. again, a lot on the docket. here with the overarching theme

i remember when jack smith made the statement after the indictment. urging every american to read the 49-page indictment. i thought to myself, they're a lot of americans don't believe a thing that said in this indictment despite the evidence that shown. and there are, what you showed us kind of proves that, right? that they can physically look at a picture with you and not believe what is in that very picture. >> absolutely. yeah, because look at the indictment, many of them had not read the indictment. but for those that have. they see it and not believe it at all. and with that last person i spoke to, this defense for the whole thing is that that would be too stupid to have the documents, to keep them in the bathroom. why would someone do this, it would be so stupid. and of course, i agree. that it was stupid. but also believe it to be true. >> i know that hillary clinton's name came up a lot,

joe biden, what about hillary. , and i think it was kind of interesting, we heard what about jfk senior. because one of the qanon believers thinks he's a line and present. i will go down that raid of my brain will explode. it was interesting because that's the same argument that donald trump gives on his social media. after talking to a lot of these people it becomes clear that they weren't getting their news, they didn't read the indictment, they weren't reading articles on. it a lot of them were actually getting their news on the trump indictment from donald trump social media feed on truth social. it's hard for them to change their opinion on any of the staff. but the new source on the indictment is from donald trump. >> davram, is there ever a point where you feel unsafe in these situations, especially considering the fact that you've been to many of these rallies, i'm sure you've seen repeatedly the same people over and over again. at one point today recognize and understand who you are.

and what your objective is i am agile? >> i think we approach people with the truth which is that they can talk to us if they want to. we talked a lot of people, we ran into some of the same people over and over. but we're up and honest. saying, do you want to talk to us for wire here, it's no different because of the indictment. and people don't hold back. they say what they think as outrageous tacitus. i want to say for the most part that we do not deal with dangerous not to say that there aren't a tense moments, where -- we talk to people and they want to talk. >> i want to play one more piece of sound with a woman that you guys interviewed, i think it davram was. talking about fox news. >> i find it in truth the news, and fox news -- >> fox news just paid 700 and -- to lying to the viewers? >> no.
