it a right-wing wish list. can democrats in the senate change the defense bill? and if you are alive rather living here it is more than just an average summer day, we will tell you why so many are in danger. i bet you all a very good day for nbc news here in los angeles, welcome everyone to alex witt reports. we have this breaking news from israel, prime minister benjamin netanyahu is in the hospital after feeling unwell as we give you a look at that she bought the medical center in tel aviv. that is where he is right now. and we see matt bradley is joining us from tel aviv. matt, welcome and what more can you tell us on netanyahu's condition and if he is saying anything? anybody putting out statements? >> yes, actually the prime minister that just put out a statement and it looks as though he's actually doing quite well. we don't know if you're spending another night there, but it looks as though he is another victim of the heat wave that you are talking about.
10:01 am
and i am too, that's why it looks like i'm extraordinarily sweaty right now amidst the protest. he is issued a statement and video saying that yesterday, edmonton with my wife and the sea of galilee in the sun without a hat and water and it was not a good idea. he wants to thank everyone for their concern and thank god i feel good he said. and then he ended its video statement by advising everybody not to go out too much in the hot weather but as you can see alex, everybody is already out here waving israeli flags. this is the 28th week of protests against netanyahu proposed judicial reform bill. now, this is something that is really energized the public here, particularly here in tel aviv. they don't want netanyahu to continue going through with legislation that would essentially sidelined the courts that netanyahu sees has not only people who are investigating him for fraud charges, but also limiting his right-wing agenda. he has right now, the most right-wing cabinet that is really history has ever seen.
10:02 am
that is why week after week, we are seeing protesters coming out in the thousands. this will be a particularly large but not necessarily routine but the other 27 weeks before because it was earlier this week that we saw netanyahu pushed through the first of three efforts to try and clear this bill through israel's parliament, the knesset. it looks like it will continue to do that, probably before the knesset goes into recess at the end of the month. expect to see alex more protests like this despite the heat. >> absolutely what we wish him well certainly to get better but it looks like he has a lot of heat to face when he gets outside. thank you very much matt bradley. more breaking news right, now the aggressive and dangerous heat wave and it is getting worse this weekend. over 80 million americans under heat alert from coast to coast. record highs are likely to be shattered in nearly 50 cities including las vegas. it is ten a.m. there it is already a blistering 101 degrees and giving you a look at the desert and palm springs
10:03 am

10:04 am
miami is that this is a city where people used to doing things out of sight. we are used to temperatures in the 80s and it's humid but this is hotter than usual. so for a city that has about 100,000 workers and the county that work outside, the city that is residents this whole park, this whole monologue here has stores that are outside, tables are outside. it's very difficult for things to approach normally under these temperatures, of course right now with the rain as you mentioned, things cool out and people went inside. without the rain, we haven't seen a lot of people walk on the streets that are normally cool. this is example what's been happening in miami, but the humidity and of, course we have these high temperatures, all across the country. alex, we have 11 states, and push to write and eyes on the other side of the country. we have desert embitters that's valley and could reach 103 degrees. make it one degree hotter, it would be the hottest temperature ever recorded in the planet. and of, course meteorologist out there there's health

10:07 am
by the way, if there is not an alert in your area, you are still really warm. in the northeast, we're into the 90s you factor in humidity, that's a big piece of the puzzle and that is what our body perceives as the temperatures. feels like over 100 degrees in portions of southern florida. record heat and so many places, we've broken so many records over the past few, weeks and we are breaking the record as well. phoenix 15 consecutive days for 110, that was yesterday. we make it 16 today, look at el paso. record 28 days of 100 plus degrees, that will happen tomorrow because we will have the triple digits once again and as we look towards monday tuesday, wednesday we are still in no trouble digits in el paso. las vegas can see their all-time high at 117. that's a big tourist city, you need to be careful as we're out and about, during a lot of water and stay away from the cocktails if you can. if you're outside but look at weekend records, into weekend temperatures and then to 1:17 and phoenix, 102 by city and alex, where cities numbers even warmer to got mauro. -- we have planted concern in portions of the northeast

10:11 am
and his campaign does not even have a campaign headquarters, alex. they are working largely out of the democratic national committee headquarters and it's a very small staff at best. the president is really able to use this time to hoard resources and wait while republicans are duking it out and spending a lot of money facing each other. president $77 million in the bank. but that in comparison, former president donald trump announced that he and his joint fund raising committee had raised about half of what president biden did 35 million over the last three months. we've got some new numbers for some of the other republican candidates. kelly o'donnell reporting that chris christie is only one in the race a little over a month raised under $2 million since he announced his candidacy. nikki haley another leading republican contenders raising more than $7 million over the last three months. these are all really important opportunities to demonstrate these candidates, their strength both with grassroots donors in the biden campaign saying that 97% of their donations came an amounts last in $200.
10:12 am
also, with those big donors and the biden campaign has raised a lot of money from some of those big donors, the president during 12 fund-raiser since he announced his reelection campaign. one single democrat who supports the president alex got this can write a check for up to $929,000 which will go to biden's campaign. the democratic national committee and the joint fund raising committee. so the race is on and the president's team feels really good about where they stand so far. >> and i wonder some of those big checks are written right here where i am in los angeles given a lot of heavyweights backing in. there. hugo thank you my, friend good to see you. mike with one stroke of a, pan a governor in the midwest likely altered the lives of many women. gonna reach beyond just? that one state back in 60 seconds. ack in 6 seconds. tourists that turn into scientists. tourists taking photos that are analyzed by ai. so researchers can help life underwater flourish. ♪ subway's slicing their turkey fresh like on the titan turkey.

us to push back on gop claims of politicization within the agency during capital hearing. >> the idea that i am biased against conservatives seems somewhat insane to me given my own personal background. >> this notion that somehow the violence at the capitol on january six was a part of some operation orchestrated by fbi sources and agents is ludicrous. among the things that you listen, off i find ironic, the reference to the lab leak area. the idea that the fbi would somehow be involved in suppressing references to the lab leak theories is somewhat observed and insane, ludicrous and ironic, absurd. >> joining me now is peter strzok former fbi counterintelligence agent. author of compromised, counter intelligence at the threat of donald j trump. peter, good to see you. what in the world went through your mind as you watch this hearing? what are your fbi colleagues telling you about it? >>, alex it is great to see
10:46 am
you. i think what we saw for the first time as the fbi director chris wray taking on a number of these conspiracy theories, in a very direct terms. not trying to please both sides of the, i'll not necessarily catching his answers in a delicate balance, not trying to offend anybody brother coming out and calling all of these conspiracy theories exactly what they are. absurd. you know ridiculous all the clips that you just played. and i think it is so important for congress to hear a direct rebuttal like this. it's important for the american people to hear directly bottle like this. it is hardly, absolutely is important for the men and women of the fbi to hear their director. to hear a senior leader within the fbi and the department of justice stand up to this just absurd range of conspiracy theories that frankly took root during the trump administration. for the longest, time starting in 2017, 18, 19, 20 a lot of dancing around these crazy ideas but now we are finally seeing somebody stand up and really putting the lie to all
10:47 am
of these outrageous claims and ideas. >> well then you like the speed, are democrats on the judiciary committee pushing back during the hearing highlighting their sense of republican intentions. take a listen to this. >> this here is a little more than performance order. it's an labyrinth show designed with only two purposes in mind. to protect donald trump from the consequences of his actions, and to return him to the white house in the last election. >> you are being attacked and vilified by some of the members of this committee and others outside of this committee because of justice department and fbi's had the audacity to investigate serious allegations of criminal conduct by a former president. >> it is not the fault of the fbi that donald trump surrounded himself with criminals. donald trump brought that upon himself. >> i think it's quite rich that the guy that has accused you of lawlessness and weaponization is 400 days into violation of his own congressional subpoena over january six. >> while my district is not
10:48 am
concerned about is the republican conspiracy theories and selective targeting of law enforcement agencies who tried to hold their twice impeached, twice in that it called leader donald trump accountable. >> i'm guessing you agree with this but give me a sense of what the real impact is. inside of the agency adds that is facing allegations of bias? >> well i think again, it's important to have the truth out in front of the american people. it's important to rebut these false claims that they are made. and then congressman luke got it exactly right. if you look at former president trump, if you look at all of the people around them who have been convicted, who are now current, convicted felons. everybody from paul manafort to michael cohen george papadopoulos,, michael flynn and on and on. fact of the matter, is all of these people in engaged in crime and were convicted. that's what even getting to the people who are currently under investigation. the people who are currently under indictment. the fact of the matter is you know director wray is anything but a liberal. he is the a republican, placed
10:49 am
in the job by former president trump and a member of the federal society. he is hardly anyone that somebody could try and say is you know a deep, a deep state democrats trying to undo the goals of the trump candidacy from the presidency. it is again important that all of these false claims are being directly rebutted. and i think it is again, important across the board from the american people to the men and women of the fbi that this is being done in such a clear way. >> but these attacks republicans peter, they have polarized how americans feel the fbi. it was not always this way. how do we restore public confidence in our justice department and if attacks on the fbi continue, is there a point where its reputation is forever tainted? >> no, i don't think so. i think the important thing to do is to have public the fences of the organization like this. one of the most telling things that i heard director wray said is that the fbi has created an
10:50 am
entire unit whose job it is to track and manage threats against fbi personnel. that is absolutely chilling, as a former fbi agent, with any number of friends and colleagues fill in the organization, the fact that you need an entire unit to manage the threats against fbi personnel because of the political environment, the threat environment has gotten so severe that that is needed, is absolutely chilling. now, what i do think you know we are an upside down world. for the better part of my career, republicans where the staunch defenders of the fbi, of law in order and that is flipped on its head. i do think a lot of what we are seeing right now as a result of trying to protect one man, donald trump and that with that motivation going away, you will quickly see the number of republicans returning to their support of the fbi. that intern will trickle out of the support of the american population. no doubt, it has played a significant role in the demolition of the fbi's image amongst certain portion of the population. without question, that is a
10:51 am
direct result of the redirect by former president trump and his enablers in congress and the media. >>, yes very fair unlikely, the accurate assessment. there peter strzok thank you so much, good to see you. all of the ragnow, see look here with some leading voices in the republican party are still saying about the 2020 election and like nationalist. msnbc hayes brown strands me to the reaction, next. on, next with a majority of my patience with sensitivity, i see irritated gums and weak enamel. sensodyne sensitivity gum & enamel relieves sensitivity, helps restore gum health, and rehardens enamel. i'm a big advocate of recommending things that i know work. (bobby) my store and my design business? we're exploding. i'm a big advocate of but my old internet, was not letting me run the show. so, we switched to verizon business internet. they have business grade internet, nationwide.

10:54 am
events this weekend. two different events and different parts of the country, there was a big event in iowa yesterday were almost the entire rest of the field spoke. donald trump is trying to avoid events like that. he does not want to elevate his competition by appearing side by side with them or kind of a standard format with them onstage. he prefers to come to events like this, one which is of course in west palm beach. basically his home turf. also what he is the king speaker, i can tell you from the folks i've been talking to here, far and away the political favorite. now the other person to watch obviously in an event like this is a florida governor, ron desantis. he is number two and this race right now. he is having a hard time even holding on to that position, just a few minutes ago to chance to talk to charlie kirk, he is the founder of turning point. he puts on this event, he himself as a donald trump endorsers but i asked him, when you think the rest of the field and particularly ron desantis would need to do to shake this race up and try to track down the front runner? here's what he told me. >> if you want to be trump, not that i want to give advice what
10:55 am
do you do? you have to dominate him. you know what even governor desantis, my recommendation to him and i told him this privately and publicly, he showed up to this event. he should've played in the blog and many should have taken questions and not even giving a speech. said hey, come to the front of the line if you disagree. that is kind of like the trump, kaitlan collins energy words like i go into the lions den, i tried to assert dominance. it is almost a who is the alpha and right now trump is the off of the republican party, these other candidates still kind of seem stuck in a policy debate. it's not a policy debate. >> alex that talks with so much what i hear from conservative voters all around the country, the idea it's less about power texan more about the person who has the movement and the heart of the party. and many cases, that has been the former president, remains a former president. i want to show you something very quick. at the event we are at right now, they have the swab of this big, giant heads behind us of all the candidates were in this race. folks can come up and stick their thoughts about each of those candidates onto the wall. that feedback on donald trump almost entirely positive. on two of the top rivals, ron
10:56 am
desantis and mike pence, there were two most often it straighter. they say even the idea that people are challenging trump in this race as disloyal to him. potentially damaging to the republican party. it's a fascinating dynamic to see it play out this early in a election cycle. alex? >> i appreciate you used the word fascinating. i would say it's a little bit something frankly but there you have it. good to see you garrett, thank you. today marks exactly six months into the iowa gop presidential caucuses and just over five weeks on the party's first debate. it is still anyone's guys who actually will appear on stage. meanwhile, the head of the parties national committee seems to keep peddling baseless theories that election fraud led to president biden's victory. >> i think there are lots of problems with 2020. ultimately he won the election, ultimately he won the election but there are lots of problems with the 2020 election. 100%. >> you are saying you are not sure as a republican party chair that he was a legitimate leader? >> i'm sandra latza problems with the 20 election and we
10:57 am
need to fix it going forward. >> joining me now is msnbc daily columnist and editor hayes brown. hayes, this week are and search iran and make daniel held firm in her belief that president biden did not win fairly. i mean we are coming up on three years later. why is the head of the rnc still claiming president biden was not legitimately elected and making up all of these false excuses to get around the fact that donald trump lost? >> let she was just reelected he would think that she would use this to say okay, here is what i actually believe but the reasons why she can't. one she does not want to upset the base too much. she still as the rnc chair needs to have republican base primary voters out to the polls, especially in the general election of 2024. she cannot alienate them now and this is the post and i showed from philip at the washington post said that she is trying to split the middle and say, oh biden didn't steal the election but there were a
10:58 am
lot of problems. it's fair to say there are problems with us and sort of rhetoric that you saw from ted cruz in 2020. josh hawley in 2020 where they would say there were problems with this election, and just gonna leave it out there negligently. where that leads to a situation where there is no evidence that could be provided, that's us okay but here is why those problems have been fixed or why is here that the work did not lead to the election being stolen. rana mcdonald has a lot of problems on her hand on that front. >> look this week, alabama senator tommy tuberville backed off defending white nationalists, admitting finally that they are indeed racist. what does it tell you about the state of today's gop? when one of his senators cannot admit that white nationalists are by definition, races. >> i mean first of, all tommy is a special case and he always in the always will, be god bless him as they would say in his state. but the fact that he is trying to avoid anything that looks
10:59 am
like he sides with you know dei or i guess black lives matter or the idea of critical race theory, they want to avoid talking about race and racism in general because they feel like doing so at all in the lead some to having to admit that racism is real or they get put into a position like senator tuberville was and when they have to like dance around it and kind of disseminate like oh well maybe white nationalist are just proud of america without having to talk about the real problems of white nationalism. top orville was eventually pinned down but the fact that he does not want to talk about it is -- what the rest of the party at this point. >> to what degree? how? this is one guy, how many are there? >> it is one guy but he is one of 100 most powerful people in washington. member of the senate, he is someone who there is no way it feels like he is going to not win reelection in alabama. i know that you had a situation where doug jones managed to
11:00 am
peek in there and it was taken out but i don't see, i see it emblematic in the sense that he is speaking to the base of the party still. and i feel others, not obviously directly will want to like try to dodge the sort of position that he was in. >> okay, i'm out of, time will make it up to you next time my friend. a brown, thank you that will do it for me on this edition of alex witt reports, i will see all again tomorrow at one pm eastern, my friend yasmin vossoughian continues our coverage. >> everybody, good afternoon i'm yasmin vossoughian. i'm a very busy saturday afternoon, we have a lot to cover in the two hours ahead. a dangerous condition, nearly one third of the country under extreme heat advisories. we will take it to one of the hottest spots in just a moment plus this.
