peek in there and it was taken out but i don't see, i see it emblematic in the sense that he is speaking to the base of the party still. and i feel others, not obviously directly will want to like try to dodge the sort of position that he was in. >> okay, i'm out of, time will make it up to you next time my friend. a brown, thank you that will do it for me on this edition of alex witt reports, i will see all again tomorrow at one pm eastern, my friend yasmin vossoughian continues our coverage. >> everybody, good afternoon i'm yasmin vossoughian. i'm a very busy saturday afternoon, we have a lot to cover in the two hours ahead. a dangerous condition, nearly one third of the country under extreme heat advisories. we will take it to one of the hottest spots in just a moment plus this.

11:02 am
hollywood to start, -- doll -- live report on that ahead as well. we start with the extreme weather across the country, impacting millions of americans right now, nearly a third of the country, 90 billion people facing scorching temperatures well into the triple digits, heat indexes in several states above 110 degrees. at the same, time powerful storms continue to drench parts of new england as well, areas of vermont getting as much as nine inches of rain this week, with the president declaring the situation a major disaster. let's get to nbc's -- who is standing by for us in miami as well as nbc news meteorologist -- to give a look ahead at what to expect, especially tomorrow with more severe weather in the northeast >>. i will start with you on this one, what is it like on the ground there and what are officials telling you about the heat and the continued heat that miami has faced over the last couple of weeks? >> yasmin, we just had a storm
11:03 am
come through miami, that is miami, whether it can be 100 degrees and you can get a storm that helps to bring the temperature down just slightly. i'm in bayside, downtown, miami a place that is frequented by tourists. normally you would see a lot of tourists walking in this area. there is a mall behind, me there's a lot of shops. the last few days this area has been empty and the people that have been walking around have been miserable because of those temperatures. temperatures have been in the 90s. right now it's about 92 degrees after the rain and the heat index is about 102 degrees, it feels like 102 degrees here in miami. it has been rough for the people of miami because, yasmin, this is a city where people are used to being outside, this is a city that gets, hot but it is used to operating under temperatures where it is still okay sit outside, to walk around, to go to the beach, but these temperatures have been too hot to even go to the beach. down in the keys they
11:04 am
registered water temperatures as hot as 97 degrees. it has been a little hotter down in the florida keys than has been in miami. of course, very difficult, this is an area where miami county, about 100,000 people work outside construction worker people, they work land skating, servers, it's quite difficult. forties keep sending the message to people, especially tourists visiting the area that might not be used to the sun, to of course hydrate, take breaks from that sun, go in the shade, if possible, and of course wear sunblock because those are the things that will creep up and will usually surprise someone who's not used to this heat. again, it has been so hot. it is probably too hot for many people to go to the beach, and what you are seeing behind me is the storm that came through. usually what happens in the area for anyone that lives here, the temperature will drop for a little, bit but then right after that storm it is gonna get really hot again. >> right. as you, said you're gonna want to check the uv index and look at the weather. there and make sure you put on
11:05 am
your sunscreen,, amidst all of, this michelle, i think you and i speak every weekend and talk about when this is actually going to. and it seems like there's really no end in sight. we've got these extreme temperatures across the country. and then you've got these continued rain storms that are causing an immense amount of, damage one man lost his life in vermont, in his home. what can people expect? >> well, heisman, organ expect more of the same, unfortunately, we're gonna see more rainfall tomorrow in portions that were hit so hard earlier this week. we're seeing the temperatures continue. dangerous temperatures continuing, at least through the middle of next week. we are week four of seeing temperatures in the triple digits. broken so many records and continue to breaking records. right now are looking at 81 million people impacted by a heat advisory, a heat, watch an excessive heat warning. and that extends from the pacific northwest to the intermountain -- into the south central states. also, the southeast. by the way, even if you don't have an alert, we are still looking at warm temperatures in
11:06 am
a lot of spots. in the northeast, we are warm, we are, sticky it's going to continue. that is going to help spark some storms as well. taking a look at some of the records, just a few of, them because we've broken so many of, them las vegas, we reach 1:17 tomorrow. it's expected. it's going to be an all-time high there. russell looking at fitting phoenix -- hundred and ten or greater. that was, yesterday today is gonna make it 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, adding on to. that el paso record, 100 plus degree days, that would happen tomorrow, that's certainly going to happen because we're expecting high temperatures once. again we will look into the middle of next week because we're looking at triple that just continuing. for today, the heat warnings -- i know you see all these numbers, they are so hard to wrap your brain around. or look at palm springs today, 1:19, that is 12 degrees above what is typical. 10 to 20 degrees above, average, phoenix 1:17, tucson, one, tenth roswell, want to, one and even hotter tomorrow. really after, today even hotter
11:07 am
tomorrow. there's a record breaker, las vegas, one, 17 1:12 in fresno. 1:19 in palm springs. and you are looking at 1:16. here's the no -- hard part, no relief insight. albuquerque, same story, el paso, so many triple digits on the map here. this is so tough on your body. tough daytime highs, but also not getting that relief at night. that is where your body resets, it, rejuvenated were not getting that at night. so this heat, this humidity is sparking the chance for some storms once. again it feels like we've had a severe weather threat every day this past. month interior northeast into parts of the ohio valley, yasmin, we ended here because i want to mention tomorrow we will get more rain. it will be heavy at times. and that will cause more flash flood concerns in portions of vermont and also eastern. new york places that were hit hard earlier. back to. you >> that is not what they need, right about now, missile, grossman thank you. let's head overseas everybody, we have breaking news that we have been following out of israel. the prime minister there, bp netanyahu, is in the hospital right now.
11:08 am
it is coming as he faces protests over his -- matt bradley is in the thick of it in tel aviv. matt, if you will, i know you're having a hard time hearing. but give us an update on what is happening inside the country right now with these protests behind you and along with the prime minister's health. >> yasmin, we actually just heard from the prime minister himself, he came out with a video in hebrew, he was beaming, smiling, projecting an image of a healthy man. and he said that he went to see -- that it was hot, he didn't wear a hat, and he didn't have water. he said it was a bad idea. and he advises israelis not to go out in the heat. as you can see here, not a lot of israelis in tel aviv are heeding that advice. they're out in, he protesting, they didn't seem to have any difference to his condition. they are the man he's they are
11:09 am
protesting. against not coming out, here waiting for him to be, well they are out here in force, and that is because earlier this week benjamin netanyahu pushed through a piece of that traditional legislation. he has two more steps to, go he's hoping to do it before the end of the month. he probably does have the votes in the israeli parliament to push that through. so this controversial bill, which would essentially sidelined the judges will. doing two things with netanyahu, what they are investigating, him the whole traditional system for fraud charges. at the same time, they are also blocking some of his right-wing agenda, right-wing agenda that, benjamin netanyahu and his cabinet, the most right wing in israeli history, is trying to push through. so really, there is a big big clash here. and that is why in here in tel aviv, where there's left liberal type people, they are coming out in force once again. you are going to start seeing this day after day, week after, week this is the 28 week of this protest and you're probably going to see it well
11:10 am
into next week, and coming week after, weekday after, day before the end of the month because that is one benjamin netanyahu hopefully -- his controversial legislation will finally be passed the four it goes on recess. yasmin? >> all, right matt bradley, for us thank, you met, we appreciate it. check bacith us throughout the two hours ahead. things develop, there and we learn more about the prime ministers position. exhibit, a leftover pizza crust, coming up, new details, on what led officers to arrest the man suspected of serial killers. we -- nbc reporting on trump's efforts to shut down georgia's election interference. just weeks before a decision on charges. he is expected. , we will be right back. , we will be right back. before advil. advil targets pain at the source of inflammation. when pain comes for you, come back fast with advil liqui-gels.

11:13 am
sometime in the past few months, georgia in michigan secretary of state have also spoken with officials from jackson's office in recent months as well. joining me now to talk more about, this msnbc legal analyst, danny cevallos, danny, as always it's great to talk to about this stuff, when it comes specifically to the georgia probe, and the demands the former president's lawyers are actually making, what are the chances that they could succeed? >> this is a long shot. and that is not me saying. that that is trump's own attorneys and their petition to the georgia supreme court, in which they say, essentially, we realized that the supreme court will almost never granted position like this, but we think this petition is important enough. the rest of the petition is basically,, look we have abruptly three arguments why dani willis, her grand jury is improper. but the argument we are making in the lower court will simply
11:14 am
never be decided before an indictment comes down. so we are going to you, georgia supreme court, and asking you to rule on this even though we have realized the odds of you even considering this petition are very small. >> i want to pivot to the special counsel's investigation into the 2020 election. and we are learning now specifically about new mexico's top election official being interviewed by federal prosecutors. we know, of course, georgia secretary of state along with michigan secretary of state roll so interviewed by federal prosecutors. what does that indicate to you about where they are with this investigation? >> the reason this is interesting to me is because when you're looking at the different states that submit these electors, the electors from new mexico and, i believe, pennsylvania, including conditional language in their certificate. essentially, i will be an elector, if it is determined that i am a legitimate elector.
11:15 am
something to that effect. so what that tells me, and this is a very comprehensive investigation, because you can make the argument that these electors are on the last liable, less culpable spectrum because they included that language. , now of course, on the other hand, just to give a silly example. i can't rob bank and leave a note saying, i'm just borrowing this, money you cannot yourself by just we've leaving a note with conditional language. but that tells me that this is a comprehensive investigation because i would've thought electors, like those in pennsylvania,, new mexico would be on the outside of this investigation. >> so, also, speaking of special counsel, something else is happening, in florida with the ongoing trial, there has been pushback from former presidents team, delaying the trial -- trial in till after the 2024 election. let me read for you but jackson its team has said about. that the special counsel's office argued on thursdays filing, such a defense borders
11:16 am
on frivolous and does not merit the delay of court proceedings. what do you make of these efforts and the possibility of it succeeding or not? >> the government has some good technical arguments, for example, they are right that the defense simply cannot ask for an indefinite delay. the statute of the trial requires the court to set a date. the state might be in 2024, but the judge does have to set a trial. state normally in federal court, the parties may continue that date over and over again. i've done that plenty of times in federal court. but there has to be a date certain. that being, said technical arguments, aside the government has some good, once this is a case that involves the most significant criminal defendant in federal criminal history. novel issues of law, there is never been a president or former president indicted. there are issues that relate directly to the president. for, example the presidential records. act got it in the title.
11:17 am
there are complex issues. in addition, there are documents that have to be handled in a sensitive manner. the government said this is no, problem this is no reason for a delay. and i will say, the irony of the speedy trial in a case like this, is that it really protects the government, when you think, but it jacks, mid indicted this case when he was good and ready and believed he could prove it beyond a reasonable doubt, they could go to trial tomorrow. the defense is playing catch-up. they need the additional time. the government should just let them have it. i think the judge will end up letting them have. it she will set a date certain, as i believe she has to. >> all right, then isabella's for, us thank you. still ahead, gop hopefuls campaigning in iowa, to impress not the voters, but tucker carlson. >> how many covid shots did you take and how do you feel about it now? >> january 6th, what was that? >> first, two or learning about the arrest of a suspected
