12:00 am
thank you for watching. it's great to be back with you. i wish you a very good night. from all of our colleagues across the networks of nbc news, thank you for staying up late. we will see you again tomorrow. stick today, president biden
12:01 am
came out fighting. it started with the letter to congressional democrats at landed in the inboxes before 9:00 a.m. which included these lines. i want you to know that despite all the speculation in the press and elsewhere, i am firmly committed to staying in this race to running this race to the end, and to beating donald trump. the question of how to move forward has been well aired for over a week now. it's time for it to end. less than an hour after that letter was made public, the president was on the phone with our friends at morning joe. >> the bottom line here is that we are not going anywhere. i am not going anywhere. i wouldn't be running if i didn't absolutely believe that i am the best candidate to be donald trump in 2024. i am not going to explain anymore about what i should or should not do. i am running. i'm getting so frustrated, i'm not talking about you, but the
12:02 am
elite in the party who they know so much more. they don't think i should run, run against me. an ounce a president. challenge me at the convention. >> challenge me at the convention. if this is a stare down and in many ways a kind of is, joe biden is not blinking. the president spent the day campaigning across the critical battleground state of pennsylvania. he attended service at one of the biggest black churches and spoke at the union headquarters in harrisburg. visited a local campaign office and met with the state's governor josh shapiro. that was all yesterday. tomorrow he will be -- give remarks at nato and then have a meeting on nato leaders. thursday he will hold a major press conference. friday he will hold a campaign event in michigan. he has events for next week in texas and nevada. keep in mind this is happening while donald trump has been virtually out of sight in the
12:03 am
11 days since the debate. we are seeing an incredibly defiant chose biden and he silent donald trump. today, we are learning more about a frankly terrifying republican platform ahead of the republican convention next week. i will have more to say on that later in the show. even with trump out of sight, the thing is, there are daily reminders of the threat he poses and the importance of beating him and defeating him. there is not universal agreement right now and who has the best chance of doing the. so far, several members of congress have come out publicly and privately calling on the present to to step aside. two democratic senators and two of the toughest races in the country, and that's important, said voters in the states have questions about whether the president is up to the task and they were the only senators who said they heard from their constituents. on the other hand, democrats including members of the black
12:04 am
caucus came out in support of biden. he is meeting with them are meeting with them over the course of the last hour. late today, democratic leader hakeem jeffries, one of the major icing stars in the party reiterated his support for the president. there is some disagreement. no question. the clock is also taking. that is a fact. the democratic convention as have been weeks away and the election is less than four months. tonight i will talk to two democratic senators. they have slightly different views and where we stand right now and without) forward might be. one is john fetterman who has been the president's fiercest defender since the debate. he spent the day with biden yesterday during his swing to pennsylvania. cannot of been more clear where he stands. >> there is only one person in this room that kicked trump's but in the election. there is only one person in
12:05 am
this state that has kicked trump's ass in an election. there is only one person in the country that has ever kicked trump's ass in an election, and that is your president. [ applause ] that is our president, your president, my president. >> well, he is right. joe biden is the only person who has kicked donald trump's ass in an election. some of the questions some democrats are asking is whether he can do it again. here is chris murphy who is joining me later tonight. >> voters do have questions. personally, i love joe biden. i don't know the interview on friday night did enough to answer those questions. i think this week is going to be absolutely critical. the president needs to do more. >> kind of hard for me to take issue with that either.
12:06 am
two democratic senators on the show went both patriots who love their country and love the president. who just happened to be answering the same question a little differently right now. guess what? that's okay. disagreement is a sign of a healthy democracy. disagreement is with donald trump and the republican party went to get rid of in the country. the ability to dissent and desk hard questions is one of the things that separates our two major political parties right now. good faith actors in the democratic party openly discussed the path forward, talk to constituents and report back. republicans are defending everything the convicted felon at the top of the ticket says and does. that blind loyalty means everything is on the line in the selection. women's rights are on the line. the supreme court is on the line. the rule of law is on the line and democracy itself is on the line. the prospect of a criminally immune criminal and the most powerful office in the world is
12:07 am
on the line. it literally could have been. guess what? john fetterman knows that and so does chris murphy. joe biden's closest advisers know that and the people calling on him to drop out know that too. we know wenning has been no more important than this november. losing is not an option and is because the stakes are so high that there is some disagreement and discussion about how we get there. no one in the democratic party is disputing the joe biden is an incredibly decent and empathetic human being. when i met with him the first time about the press secretary job, his biggest focus was on whether i could play a role in returning civility and respect for the media to the briefing room. he didn't want shouting matches or accusations. he wanted to bring the country together and restored dignity to the white house. that is who he is. he asks about your kids and your family, who picks up the phone when his grandkids call. a person who is so relentless when i was there that he would keep meetings going in the oval
12:08 am
office for hours, to the point i has seca may have to go to the press briefing. he cares deeply about the country and have always has. he ran not for fame or fortune and certainly not to keep himself out of jail, that's what we are dealing with. but because he believes in public service into making the lives of others better. he wants to help the little guy from scranton who we talked to after church and who feels forgotten. representing those people is his calling. that's why he is in public office and that is what has driven him to run for public office. he was the unifier when the country needed a. the comforter in chief when people were morning loved ones lost to covid. it's not that he has defied odds repeatedly including when he ran for president. landed in fourth place in iowa and still came back to win ski and defeat trump. it's not that his forge ahead in pursuing bipartisan legislation for things people care about.
12:09 am
at a time when most said that was malarkey, as he might say. he did it through hard work and relationship building and compromise. part of governing that has largely been lost in washington . if you are sitting at home watching this happen, and you feel angry, i get it. if you feel frustrated, i get that too. joe biden is a good man who has been a great president and push forward an impressive agenda. that is a fact. this decision is not about that. it's not about whether or not he defied the odds in 2020. he did. whether he defied the odds in his first term, he did. it's not whether he would stand up for democracy. it's whether he's the right person to defeat donald trump. we don't know exactly where voters stand on the question and that's the only thing that matters. there are legitimate questions in this moment. it isn't only rich donors and coastal elites asking.
12:10 am
i worked for him. i respect him and care about him deeply. if i sit here every night and told you every question being asked is unfair, i wouldn't be respecting you. i'm not going to do that. we will tell you what's happening and what i believe is happening behind the scenes in this moment. that is all we know. that is what we can talk about. the president and his team came a fighting. he was defiant, no question. a sign of vigor that's important but also, that's not his most effective message to voters. the selection will not be won by someone who name calls trump but by someone who can articulate clearly to the american people that trump is not fighting for them. he is fighting for himself. president biden has done that and he can do it effectively. the man i saw annette debate stage was not the person i work for. a person who switch between spontaneous calls to members of congress of foreign leaders who grilled for more answers and
12:11 am
harangued spokes people including me for speaking in acronyms. that's not the person we saw, and i don't think we should deny there. maybe it was one bad night. the president will have to answer the questions and convincing skeptics. he is up to the job. he has started that process. interviews and campaign events and there's more to come. is a test on thursday with the solo press conference after nato. everything will be scrutinized as it will be in the days ahead. defiance is a start. defiance alone will not win every he needs in the denial about the reality we are facing and he is facing right now. senators chris murphy and john fetterman are standing by. chris murphy joins me in 60 seconds. seconds.
12:12 am
joining miss democratic senator chris murphy of connecticut. agrees to appoint a lot have raised that you love the president. you said that yesterday and i
12:13 am
said that. you would like to see him doing my. town hall meetings, more events. what is hard is how do you measure success x we are on a short time line. the clock is ticking. what are you looking for? how will you look at it on friday and say i can be with them. >> it doesn't sell in politics. my position as symbol. i support joe biden and he is my president. i've never seen a more effective commander in chief than joe biden. i have worked with him intimately. we passed the first anti-gun violence bill in 30 years that is saving thousands of lives as we speak as crime plummets in the nation that would've not happened without joe biden's detailed daily intervention in those negotiations. i know what joe biden can do. i know how successful he has been for the american people and i support him in the election. it is true that people have questions having watched his performance on thursday.
12:14 am
it's also true that people want to be with them and support him but they want to see him in settings that show he is still the old joe biden, as he says he is. what i have suggested is the president be in unscripted settings this week and he did that this morning and the call. >> did you like the tone of that? >> we need to see more of that. it was a good start and it's okay for him to be defiant. if he believes in himself and his ability to beat donald trump, then he should be angry and upset at what has happened over the course of the last week. you are right that he has to do more than just show the anger about the circumstances. he has to show his ability to deliver and assure voters that the performance on thursday was an anomaly. he can do that this week. is set the clock is ticking
12:15 am
because we need to get beyond this as a party. we need to get back to the issue at hand which is a contrast between a decent, honorable man, joe biden, and a corrupt felon who pathologically flies and wants to transmission our democracy to autocracy, donald trump. >> you and i no the political cycles. you have been elected to the senate. i have not. donald trump could pick a running mate. the republican convention is next week. does it need to be decided by the end of this week? >> i think we would be well served by having a decision. i think president biden can do things this week to re-instill people's faith in him so by next week we are back to talking about this contrast. i also think it's an opportunity for a comeback story. the press and the immediate and
12:16 am
this country loves nothing better than a comeback story. president biden was down thursday night into friday morning. if he shows this week that he has the ability to correct from the performance, i think that's a pretty important and compelling narrative as we head into summer and fall. it is incumbent on the president and his team to do the things like this morning. put the president in settings that show thursday night was an anomaly. >> sounds like you would like to go to the republican convention of knowledge, confidence and who the nominee will be. >> the republican convention will be an advertisement for the most unpopular agenda that any major party has ever run on in the history of the country. they had this document, project 2025 -- >> trump pretense has nothing to do with it. >> his future cabinet members wrote the document. >> future chief of staff may be. >> it's unbelievable that trump
12:17 am
and his acolytes have the gall to put down on paper their plan to end american democracy, and make a woman's right to choose everywhere in this country, to single out and persecute kids in this country. that is what we should be talking about which is why hope the president continues what he started and answers people's questions so next week we can be talking about this incredibly contrast. >> let me ask you about one piece which is who controls the senate. there are your colleagues who came out and said their constituents expressed questions of the president need to do more he was up to the job. one is john tester who is in a close race and he said president biden has to prove that he is up for the job for another four years. you have run close races before. how much do the feelings and views of vulnerable senators of vulnerable members of congress,
12:18 am
how much should that way and what happens moving forward? >> ultimately, president biden believes he can do this job and convinces the voters across the country that he can do the job, then he has met the moment. i am not saying that his comments are not relevant but this has to be about what the president believes he can do it but the broad american electorate believes the president is capable of. john tester is an independent voice, he's a democrat but does what is right -- >> senator brown did. >> you will see senators like john tester who have been independent voices agreeing with the president many times and disagreeing many times. that is who john tester is. that's a shared brown is and bob casey. that will continue to be what you hear from them. >> how does this conclude?
12:19 am
one of your colleagues, my hometown senator even though you were once my senator, mark warner was going to call a meeting that was canceled. does there need to be a meeting when senators agree on a path forward? how do we end whatever the path is going to be? >> i suggested one of the ways is for the president to be informed this week in which he answers those questions. the sooner the president does that and i think he started doing that today, the quicker we can come to a collective decision that not everyone will agree with but a broad cross- section of democrats will agree with that the president is ready to carry this election forward. this could end more quickly if the president takes chances and gets into unscripted settings this week. >> senator chris murphy, it's great to see you. coming up. democrats are hammering donald trump's project 2025 agenda. are voters listening? i will talk to john favreau. when senators stand by the

12:24 am
straight in the days after the debate and all the fallout and calls for the president to step aside, there is one senator who has stood firmly behind president biden. it seems the president noticed.
12:25 am
>> i am not going to make a speech. i promised you. by the way, i've got john fetterman. i don't need much else. >> i am about to point to the only person that has ever kicked trump's ass in an election right now. i hope the media is hearing that, reminding you. humiliated trump. broke him, and he had to lie about it. >> joining me as democratic senator john fetterman. thank you for joining me. you are summer dashe we showed it. you have defended the president and you said he had a great day yesterday and early today he came a swinging with the letter. he made an appearance on morning joe. he has made it clear he's not leaving. but several of your colleagues have come out with statements and talked of concerns their constituents have expressed. they said the president needs to prove he's up for it.
12:26 am
you been through a tough fight before. what does the president need to do to keep others from jumping ship, other colleagues of yours? >> it cracks me up. if no one run for president, has been the president giving advice, that's a strange place to sit there. it's like, i will tell tom brady you need to hold harder in the pocket or something. it is strange. it's bizarre when people are saying, his the best president in my lifetime, but. it should stop right after the president of your lifetime. he had a rough debate and we know that. we are still talking about that, and i don't think it's helpful. that will be our guide. that is my guy and our president. i like to keep pointing out again and again, there is only one man a person in america that is be trump in an election
12:27 am
and that's joe biden. my money is going to be on the guy that kicked his ass and will win again. >> they are not just speaking from their point of view but talking about what they've heard from constituents of people who represent states including states that will be in play coming up this election. they say they love joe biden but they are not questioning as record. they are questioning whether he can beat donald trump. how does he bring them back? does he need to bring them back? are you telling me you don't think that matters? >> he is going to run the campaign he did. my colleague said unscripted. we did a day of it yesterday of unscripted. it was a great today for the president as well. the rooms were packed. people were enthusiastic and thursday to heather selfie taken with the president. back and forth. that was joe biden right there. that's the kind of president i know and one i am proud to
12:28 am
stand with throughout all of this. pulls will be up and pulls will be done in similar bad days and good days. joe biden is never going to bribe a pornography store and get convicted as a felon for that. it is strange when you have project 2025 and that is trump's, that's his plan. why people are more worried about what time joe biden may go to bed are these other things when it's clear we need to get serious and realize what is here. some of these democrats even before this debate were willing to walk away from him or to abandon biden. hey, that worked out great back in 2000. we got two terms of bush. we -- jill stein in 2016. that brought trump here. the next time you try to send a message, maybe it was sent trump back to the white house.
12:29 am
>> project 2025, we talked a lot about it and we will talk about it later. i think that's why people are so concerned. it's existential to take a trip. people are going to be all over pennsylvania the next couple of months including the media and lots of candidates. another one of your colleagues facing a tough reelection, running ahead of his opponent, dave mccormick. it's bob casey. do you have concern that president biden at the top of the ticket will bring bob casey down? >> absolutely not. i was in cycle in 22 and it was supposed to be a bloodbath for democrats. i don't know how popular it is, i don't know if you can be seen -- i was proud to campaign with him. the polls had me down by two points in lose and we won by five points. i am right here having this conversation.
12:30 am
i stood with him in my cycle, and i will stand with him in his cycle. bob casey will be that guy from connecticut. we have a great team on i was running. whether montana or in ohio. whether it's nevada, all of these. kari lake, she's a miracle. she's like a democratic asset. she's everyone my in favor of. i have a good chance of running the table. joe biden is on the top. it is strange why republicans seem to appraise safe felon at the top of their ticket and they are proud of that. they dress like a man show up, and we have all kinds of anxiety and we say things and wonder will joe biden be our candidate? we shouldn't be having that conversation at this point. it's like joe biden is our guy, and death anyone was better,
12:31 am
they had their chance. it's a very very. the only guy who did that was the gelato guy and that -- where were they? anyone who thinks they could've brought their pad itself into the primary, but they did not do that. it's not reasonable to turn her back on a great president after a rough debate. >> let's talk a little more about pennsylvania. it's important to talk to you because you know pennsylvania well. one cooler breeze people said you would not win. there's a bloomberg poll released this weekend the shows donald trump is a seven point lead over joe biden in pennsylvania. pretty consistent with a lot of the polling. polls are imperfect and testing a moment in time and betting on the electric. talk about what you are seeing on the ground. is it inconsistent, is the polling wrong?
12:32 am
do you worried the debate and other things will impact their? what is your take on the ground? >> that's not a seven point race. it will be close. i've been saying this since 2016. we can't play around. this will be close to 2016, and that's what happened. it will be close in 2020 and that's what it was. when polls had biden five points in pennsylvania and if you look at the crowds and see that energy, it's not a five point race. in 2024 it will be close again. no matter who is in the race. joe biden beat him. soundly as well. now, if we are still arguing about this, i don't understand that. if there somebody else that is to be that person, but their name in right now. that is the thing. that is what i am suggesting.
12:33 am
if somebody thinks they can be trump, put their head in the ring and everybody can react on it instead we can talk about this another month. >> you spent the day with him yesterday. you campaigned with him, as you said, two years ago. there's a lot of talk that he has dramatically changed. what did you notice about the day yesterday versus two years ago? it's only two days moments in time but you spent time with them both occasions. >> he had a perfect day with me. i don't know there's other people on your show that has been the entire day with joe biden, but i did. he had multiple events and they were all great. he was interacting in an easy and friendly way. not unscripted kind of a day and all of that. again, that was joe biden. i don't know why people are talking about that.
12:34 am
you have to come back to this idea, who this is going to be? that person can put, put their name in the ring right now, otherwise we will talk about this for the next month. >> i think this is pretty personal for you that you can relate on a personal level. you talked about this in your suffered a stroke and you went into win. you were younger than the president but you know what it's like to do a check capably but facing questions about your abilities. tell me how frustrated you have felt on a personal level to watch this over the last week and a half? >> it is personal in a way because joe biden stood with me during my cycle. i will stand with him. it is like, this is a great president. look about where we were four years ago. we were all going to be doing soon.
12:35 am
everything. visiting with grandparents and visiting with anybody on zoom in people were hoarding toilet paper. who wants that? who wants to say all those great days. who wants that chaos and that kind of thing. everybody and democrats, joe biden is a great president and an income incredible record. there should not be a but. he won the primary. there were democrats who had a chance to challenge him, and now is not the time. like the president said, this needs to end and we need to go forward, or if there are people in our party who thinks, i am the one who can be trump, put your name out. i want to hear from them. you know? >> the president but the challenge out this morning. we will see what happens. senator john fetterman, thank you always for being candid. i hope you always wear hoodies. don't let anyone change you.
12:36 am
thank you for being on with a. donald trump is desperately trying to distract voters from the policies he believed in are deeply unpopular. i will tell you about the new republican agenda when we come back. back.

12:39 am
12:40 am
donald trump knows his presidential campaign has a her ability. it is not just that is been
12:41 am
found liable of fraud in sexual assault and the charges he faces and his criminal convictions. it is his own agenda. that is why trump is doing everything he can to keep the agenda from being scrutinized. last week, he bizarrely tried to distance himself from the republican plan known as project 2025. that's the blueprint written by trent's advisers to radically expand executive power. or is that president of the heritage foundation but it, quote, institutionalize trumpism. this way, trump and his campaign are trying to make their agenda palatable than is. today, for the first time since 2016, the republican party released a draft of the 2024 platform. its contents are less like a proposal to govern and more like something you would see on truth social, matched together, including a section outlining fake promises that read like a greatest hits of tart king -- trump talking points.
12:42 am
it's been cut to a lot since 2016 from more than 60 pages back then to 16. the trump campaign says it's been, quote, streamlined, keeping specifics to a bare minimum. there lies the tale. his positions are so extreme he doesn't want to explain them in detail. there is no mention of the republican position of russia's war against ukraine other than that general idea of, quote, restoring peace in europe. there is no mention of the affordable care act which said he would replace if he wins a second term. what is mentioned as a flashing a pretty strange proposal to, quote, create a robust manufacturing industry in outerspace. jobs that probably serve americans better if they were on earth. i think that's safe to say. there are contradictions at the premise that republicans will, quote, protect social security and medicare with no cuts. that's funny. it comes three months after trump said yes entitlement cuts
12:43 am
are on the table. >> have you changed your outlook on how to handle entitlements, so social security and medicare? it seems something has to be done. >> there is a lot you can do in terms of entitlements, in terms of cutting. >> given contradictions like that, it can be hard to know what the republican agenda is. that misdirection is purposeful because trump is trying to hide from his own agenda. nowhere is that more parent than the reproductive rights. gone as a proposed human life amendment that republicans have back for decades. in its place her four sentences that pass the buck to the states, allowing them to impose draconian abortion laws will trump shirks responsibility for overturning roe. nor does answer questions on mifepristone or the comstock act. something trump said he would answer in a weaker two we back in april. good thing we didn't hold our breath on that.
12:44 am
it glosses over the difficult question that platforms are meant to address. ambiguity is the point here. trump wants people to think his softened his stance on abortion, but it's the same guy when said women must be punished for the choices they make about their own bodies. he promised to return roe and appointed three justices who did exactly that. he has no problem with the oppressive malaise that republican-led states have passed. >> he gave it back to the states. the states are working brilliantly. the states are working the winter it. you are having very beautiful harmony to be honest. whatever it is, it's with any state and with the people decide. is working out. we've given it to the states and some states have decided, and people are satisfied with that. >> here is the thing. trump knows his proposals are deeply unpopular across the board and why he's refusing to
12:45 am
put them in writing. at least not in detail. that is the irony. trump has to disguise his agenda to implement it and that should scare all of us. my friend and cohost john favreau is standing by joins me after a quick break. quick brea.
12:46 am
12:47 am
12:48 am
12:49 am
over the past three weeks you probably heard more about project 2025. that is not an accident on. a lot of democratics groups are made working hard to make sure you know they want you to know about his plans to take away reproductive rights, fire civil servants a weaponize the justice department and detain immigrants in camps before departing them. i am not making that up and it's all on the heritage foundation website. new reporting, "the washington post" reveals a biden campaign is making those proposals a core element of their campaign. they issued news release mentioning the project including five on friday and are asking surrogates, allies, and others to talk about
12:50 am
project 2025 as often as i can. it seems to be working. mentions a project 2025 on social media, television and podcast have tripled since the beginning of june thanks to democrats sounding the alarm. joining is john favreau, former speechwriter for president obama and a podcast host and salmon i've been testing on with the regular. we will talk about what's going on in the democratic party. we have talked about it a lot. i want to start with project 2025 because there's a lot of horrible stuff in that plan. it's nearly 1000 pages. a lot of people are trying to help voters understand. one of the challenges is what to talk about. is it project 2025, the republican platform? the threat to abortion rights? social security and medicare? is that all of it? you've written speeches and thinking of messaging for years, what do you think? >> i think calling it project
12:51 am
2025 is working. i'm getting texan messages from people who don't follow politics about project 2025. i think we have succeeded in making sure the right does this well, it seems something secret and conspiratorial and people want to find out more about it. the way i talk about it is donald trump wants to acquire nearly unlimited power but because of his control over his party and the supreme court that he installed, he will get if you when sandy wants to exert control over nearly every aspect of our lives. life-and-death decisions about pregnancy and health care. who we love, who we are, what our children read. what they learn. i would talk about all of it. the fact he wants to send federal troops into cities. he wants to send federal troops against american protesters. he wants to send federal agents

to investigate people who don't agree with him. he wants to nullify our votes if it beat him at the ballot box. this is about donald trump trying to gain as much power as he possibly can and exert control over our lives and punish people who do not agree with it. that is all of his -- people have wanted to do. he's trying to walk away from it because everyone is finding out about it and he knows it's terrifyingly unpopular. even though there try to walk away, 16 of us former officials, some of whom have been rumored to be potential what has chiefs of staff next time, running project 2025 and written it. russ vought. i don't think he can walk away from it and democrats should talk about it at every possible opportunity. >> this is my view, all those threats, it's valid and understandable to have a conversation about the democratic side of the aisle. the threat of donald trump is not the threat of mitt romney. it's a different thread. i have talked to a lot of

people and i gave an overview about my view of the state of this. what is you view of where things it right now? >> hello joe biden. i love joe biden and he has been a fantastic president. he should be proud of what he has accomplished and we should be proud of what he has accomplished. what we saw at that debate, what 90 million americans are, and what 8 million americans saw and that interview with george stephanopoulos has voters concerned who are not with joe biden yet. the challenges joe biden was behind heading into that debate. these are not concerns because of the debate. they are not new concerns that came up because of the reaction to the debate. the month before the debate, when the media was talking nonstop about donald trump being a convicted felon, as they should have, and that

biden campaign was on the air with tens of millions of dollars in ads and he was campaigning everywhere, you still oppose before the debate that said, 65, 70% of voters including about half of democrats, most black voters and latino voters, most young voters thought joe biden was too old to be an effective president. the reason the biden campaign asked for the debate so they could convince those voters that joe biden was set for the job. they asked for it federally. the fact joe biden performed as a date in the debate, it doesn't matter what we think. we will still vote for joe biden because we understand the threat of donald trump is existential. by the way, think 90% of democrats understand the and he probably will not& voters. i know john fetterman said he kicked donald trump's ass but he only won by 40,000 votes across three swing states. 40,000 votes. is 36% approval rating. the people has to win over is

not you and me or the people watching. it's a bunch of voters undecided who are not sure if they want to back joe biden or donald trump? they weren't sure before the debate, nothing more serious doubts. i have heard focus groups were people who were undecided, sarah from the bowl work did a focus group of clinton biden voters. democrats. three said they might break in someone else's name because they were so verified about the debate. what i am worried about and i hate having this conversation, i hate it, but joe biden sending the letter 2 congress that our number 1 job is to defeat donald trump. i agree with him. it's the most important thing to defeat donald trump. i really hope joe biden and the people around him really look inside and look at the data and think hard about whether joe biden really is the best person

in america to beat donald trump because even though it's late and we don't have much time left, he could still make the decision to step down. i think it would be an incredibly courageous decision. incredibly graceful and strong decision to step down and pass the torch. have an open process where we find a nominee who can take on donald trump and make that case. the most important thing for our nominee to do is make the case against donald trump. we talked about project 2025 but joe biden didn't mention it in the debate, not once in the debate. he did not do it different debate million people on george stephanopoulos. those were missed opportunities. it is important to prosecute this against donald trump and we need a nomine to do that. >> jon favreau, thank you for joining me.
