looking at the convention and the debate, she's just trying to like, i think she is deathly out of the honeymoon phase and is in a position where she needs to talk about her policies, where she wants to do and how people still get to know her. she has to fight a lot of nonsense coming out of the trump campaign but i think she is continuing to put her policies out there and making the case for why she should be elected because she is focused on happening >> helping everyday people and a stirring up more drama, distress and hate in the country. >> ladies, i would like to boast to standby for second, we have some pretty important breaking news to share. this is from a source familiar. i am reading the release. shots were heard on trump's golf course, where he was playing, in west palm beach, florida. trump was out golfing, he was immediately rushed to a safe place. he is safe and fine. this is all part a source familiar with us. i just want to note, nbc news has not yet independently verify there were gunshots fired well trump was that the golf course. you are seeing the official

trump private plane landed in west palm beach yesterday evening after campaign events and a fundraiser that trump had so we know he has been there since last night in the area. today he was supposed to be down from any campaign public events. we know he is apparently taking a couple meetings here and there. of course, he was also on the golf course, as well. we do not know of any specific names or individuals. we are working right now to learn who exactly he was with golfing when this incident took place. >> yeah, do you know when he went out, how long he had been out on the golf course? >> reporter: that is something we are still working to learn, as well. we don't know at this time. a lot of times, especially when it comes to golfing, which as we know the president wants to do, he doesn't sometimes multiple times a week, we don't

have any clarification on what that looks like. a lot of times we are learning real-time via social media or real-time some of our viewers in terms of what is exactly happening on that golf course. a lot of times, that is more private. in this case, this incident took place, we are working to learn as much as we can as quickly as possible. >> okay, this is, everybody, very, very fluid. let me get a little more here. i have just been handed something while you were talking, so i have the advantage of being given this over you, jake. this is from jonathan dietz and tom winter, two of our most excellent investigative reporter at nbc network and at msnbc. the big picture here, apparently there were two senior law enforcement officials who are offering divergent briefings on one exactly happened. here is what they do know. donald trump was golfing in west palm. they do no shots were fired. one is suggesting initial indication is that trump was not the intended target but that is the instant analysis from the scene. whether that has been confirmed or will be confirmed, that remains to be seen. the other is saying, they are not sure on any kind of analysis yet.
11:51 am
they are not putting a lot of credibility into anything definitive saying donald trump was not the target. this all remains to be seen. we can confirm donald trump was not hit. so it apparently is being described by a senior law enforcement official that donald trump was on the golf course from what appeared to be the sound of gunfire that was heard in the nearby distance. as a precaution, how this went down, secret service moved him to safety. again, there is no definitive evidence yet he was targeted. police, federal agencies are looking into the cause of the sound of what may have been gunfire. no one has been reported injured. all of this is very preliminary. the local sheriff may have a briefing in the next half hour or so. there is a senior official who briefed more preliminary information saying donald trump was on the golf course in what appeared to be the sound of
11:52 am
gunfire in the nearby distance. we are getting redundancy from those we are hearing from. in the next half hour or so, we will see some more guidance. that has been given to us by a single source. we will certainly stay on that to see if the local sheriff is going to speak to this and what they have been able to find out. the important thing is, despite the prospect of gunfire in the nearby vicinity of donald trump while he was out golfing on trump international golf course, he was immediately rushed to safety. we can confirm he is fine. he was not hit. whether or not he was the intended target remains to be seen. one suggestion is that he may have been, but um, you have no analysis on that yet. the other is suggesting they do not believe he was the intended target. again, all of this is unfolding right now. it is very difficult to understand hard facts in a situation like this, as you can all imagine.

the secret service. obviously, the nature of this is such that the secret service would pull together the people who are on the ground with the former president, wherever he is, the secret service personnel there. leadership here in washington will figure out what happened, when it happened, how it happened, all those details. those are things that are sort of being walked through at this point. they have reached out, obviously, to the local law enforcement agency there and are trying to figure out exactly what happened. obviously, you know, golf courses are large, sprawling, pieces of property. there are questions about whether whatever happened was, you know, what proximity it had, not just to the former president, but to the golf course itself, whether it was something far out in the community that was just audible or something that happened on the property. those are all questions that have yet to be answered at this point. we will try to get those

answers from folks here in washington as well as folks in florida. >> what i do appreciate, you did bring a nugget in terms of the timing. we asked that question. you said it is reported to have happened just before 2:00 p.m. eastern, which would make it about an hour ago. of course, given the secret service and law enforcement officials, they would have plenty of time to whisk the president to safety. i am sure for security, we do not know his exact whereabouts right now. i will not ask you to tell me that. if the secret service relayed that to you, but you know, aaron, can you confirm he has been taken someplace safely , perhaps even back to mar-a- lago, you know, the distance between the golf course and mar- a-lago would not be all that far. >> reporter: you are right. we don't know exactly where he was moved to or if he has been moved again since any sort of additional movement. what we would typically see in a case like this is, secret service would come in. there would likely be agents on the golf course within steps of the former president. and when there were calls for alarm, whatever the nature of that alarm, those agents would move in and move to move the

president to a safe place. what that safe place would be in a situation like this, we just don't know the answer to that at this moment for that particular site. whether it was a building nearby, or a vehicle that is armored nearby, where the president, the former president could be protected in that way. rest assured, the secret service would move him to a safe place and then there would likely be additional movement was the secret service determines it is safe to make those movements. those are all questions that are yet to be answered in this specific instance. from things we know over the course of time, watching how these things, these sorts of incidences evolve, we know the secret service will move in to immediately create a safe environment and make additional movements as they deem appropriate. >> 100%. please don't go anywhere, aaron. i will bring in the former fbi and msnbc national security analyst. frank, given your experience there, do you think the likelihood is that trump will

be remaining in the region or they would get him into an armor car -- armored car and get him back to mar-a-lago, given that this took place in west palm beach. it is a quick drive over a causeway to get him back to the safety and security of mar-a- lago. how do you think this will be going down? this was about an hour ago. >> based on what we know, which is very little at this point, it is certain with a degree of probability they will be moving him to a much safer location within mar-a-lago that, of course, for years they have designated as a safe room. they may have multiple safe rooms within mar-a-lago. i think that is the logical thing. but this will unfold quickly, with regard to the sheriff's office coming in, saturating the area in a search. perhaps even using, it is a
11:58 am
very large incapable sheriff's office, they can put a plane up, even drones up, to try to find the source of this noise. i do trust secret service when they say they believe the sound they heard was a gunshot. they know what a gunshot is. they even may know the caliber, whether it's in a like a rifle or a pistol. so there is a lot going on here. there are a lot of guns in palm beach county. >> yeah. >> the targeting of donald trump, i do still think they are moving him to a safe room. also, the fbi has a sizable resident agency, they are located in west palm beach. i would expect that at a minimum they are in contact with secret service and vice versa. you know, suggesting or offering any help they can give and why is that?
11:59 am
because, if indeed it is determined this was something more than a random gunshot or something else, then the investigation moves to the fbi. if they are talking about a secret service protective. secr. >> okay. let me ask you about the location. this again is on a golf course. it is not well protected. when you have a golf course with 18 holes, it is a beautiful open space. do you think something like this, frank, could force the trump campaign, the former president as well, to consider staying off golf courses? it is heightened times. this is a man who back in july, someone took a shot at him and he survived an assassination attempt. do they could be reasonable for
12:00 pm
the campaign to consider saying mr. president, i am sorry, but golf is not something you are going to be able to do in the near future until we get a handle on proper security. if that is even possible in a golf situation. >> a couple thoughts. don't think this particular protect d would accept the suggestion and they are infrequent battles over giving guidance and recommendations versus saying absolutely not, you cannot do this. i think you would balk at the gulf prohibition. right after the butler, pennsylvania, attempt on trump, you are the active secret service director make a public comment that really struck me which was that in open carry states, they are no longer comfortable with open-air events . so, that really struck me that we have reached a point where the u.s. secret service is now concerned about the challenges anywhere of an open space event
