4:47 pm
celebrate the progress of the u.s. economy and how far it has come since he took office. it comes a day after the federal reserve cut interest rates by half a percentage point, the first cut since 2020 and the largest in 16 years. biden was very clear that this was not a victory lap and that more work has to be done, but the man does deserve some credit given the state of the economy left to him by his predecessor and current republican presidential nominee, donald trump. inflation, which saw a post-covid high of over 9%, has reached a three-year low. prices are starting to come down for things like groceries and gasoline, and it is being done, as biden said, without ever having to enter a recession, which few people including economists thought could be done. so when the fed made its announcement, which will help all americans when it comes to things like credit cards, mortgages, student loans and car loans, you'd think that everyone including republicans would see it as good news.
4:48 pm
nope. instead, there are many like senator tommy tuberville who are furious with the fed, calling the rate cut shamelessly political. how dare they help amen coming? because the truth is when it comes to the economy, to republicans it is not whether or not the news is good for the american people -- for you -- it is only a matter of whether or not it is good for one person, donald trump. what's even scarier is that they've been able to convince some of their supporters to be against something that directly benefits them. >> the fed cut the interest rate today by half a percentage point. going to alleviate inflation for a lot of people, so if you have any reaction to that we would love it. >> well, look, my reaction is -- >> i mean, yeah, okay. the crowd was loudly booing, even after the reporter stated it would help relieve inflation for them. please, somebody make it make sense. perhaps that's why trump feels

so confident in continuing to push republicans to try to sow chaos with the economy by shutting down the government only weeks before the election. considering how house republicans rejected their own funding bill last night with less than two weeks to go before a shutdown, it just shows who republicans care about most. spoiler alert, it is not their constituents. the difference between the two parties and the two presidential candidates is not being lost on workers. while the teamster's union announced yesterday it will not endorse either candidate for president, a number of its local chapters including in battleground states like michigan, nevada and wisconsin, have endorsed harris's campaign. the president of one of those local unions joins me next. ♪♪ citi's industry leading global payments solutions help their clients move money arouorld seamlessly in over 180 countries... and help a partner like the world food programme

kamala harris was walking our picket lines while donald trump was crossing them. >> for us in the labor movement it is real simple. kamala harris is one of us. >> some of the largest workers unions representing millions of people across this country have endorsed vice president kamala harris and her prolabor policies. there is one notable exception, however, the teamsters. yesterday their executive board decided for the first time since 1996 not to endorse a

candidate for president. that decision did not sit well with some local chapters across the country which announced their own endorsements including in battleground states like michigan, nevada and wisconsin. joining me now is president of the teamsters local 237, which represents employees in government agencies in new york city and long island. thank you so much for being here. >> thank you for having me on. >> the national organization did not endorse. why did your organization endorse? >> well, when we looked at the polling, the majority of the members wanted us to endorse kamala harris and i said you know, we were all told if we want to make a local endorsement, we can. why? it was the right thing to do because we know what the biden- harris administration did for labor and i got a lot of calls
4:56 pm
from my member saying we are proud that you did that. we were afraid that no one would stick up for kamala harris. >> let me go through it. the record on the two are very different. we know that president biden walked the picket line. we know the policy was about the chips act, bringing jobs. we see inflation down. we see a lot of positive policy outcomes. here is trump's record. he changed the rules to make it harder to qualify for overtime. he opposed legislation raising the minimum wage to $15 per hour. he repealed legislation protecting workers from payday loans. he give incentives for companies to move overseas and made it harder for workers to join a union. can you explain, given that, why your national organization would be ambivalent about endorsing one or the other? >> i can't explain that. it is inexplicable. there are individuals that may
