this week former republican congresswoman liz cheney was joined by several former trump white house officials for what was billed as a democracy first event highlighting kamala harris's broad coalition of support. >> in this election a broad coalition, a coalition unlike any we have seen certainly in modern american history has come together to defeat donald trump. a coalition that may disagree on some things. but we are bound together as we work to elect vice president kamala harris. we are bound together. >> can i just say bravo, thank you very much. real quick just for folks out there and i get there are a lot of ways you will come at
6:32 am
deciding this election. you have to stop and say to yourself, this is curious that conservative republicans like liz cheney, adam kinsinger joe walsh. who was a hard-core you know, tea party guy. are all aligned in this coalition to support kamala harris. to ask yourself why would you do that? because the threat is in the house and it is real and we need to make sure we understand that. i applied a lot of those efforts right now. to really put the country ahead of the partisanship that we have experienced over the last two years. i just wanted to put that out there and say hello, voters out there this is why it is happening because it is that important. >> it is also important to note that the vice president's campaign and the vice president herself has not changed on any policy issues to get this
6:33 am
support. they are not supporting her about policy because liz cheney will be the first to say i do not agree with her on policy issues. when it comes to democracy, when it comes to the rule of law when it comes to being a good person someone that will care about the people of this country when they sit behind the resolute desk, she believes in kamala harris and that is an important point because the disinformation out there says look at what the vice president is giving all these republicans. she has not given them anything except the promise that she will be a president for everybody. >> did you see the cover of vogue? >> i had ptsd from volk okay. remember that last vogue cover? i thought the story was very good. i did see the local color but you know i got shivers just inking about boca. >> i like that.
6:34 am
but, the reaction from people is interesting like she is looking presidential. that is the entire point because she is. >> that is how she has been looking. >> she started presidential talking about what it is she would do on day one focused on what she is hearing from voters on the trail which is cost-of- living and a restoration of rights. the duality in both tackling the crisis of the moment and also tackling the existential crisis under all of this. there was one piece that stood out to me and the reason i brought it up. she talked about the fact that yes you can go into an administration with a policy agenda but at the end of the day, you are taking whichever crisis evolves in that moment. that is fundamentally the decision you are making i think the reason you are seeing these former and current republicans come out and support her. the question is, how will you show up in the moment of
6:35 am
crisis? how will you shop on the national stage, on the world stage and if you cannot answer that question then, you really do not have much of a candidacy. the mac that tracks back to what i said about the conversation we had about women and how their power is perceived. how their authority is perceived and what you sense is the country is ready for the next step. it is just, they have to see it and feel like they have to touch it in some way and i think vogue and other opportunities for her to demonstrate that are helpful to giving voters the peace of mind they know. it is okay, a woman can run the country it will be all right. you will probably be a sight better than you are. she will take calls next
6:36 am
week on the radio live on the breakfast club and that accessibility will make a difference. speaking of accessible next, we are going to talk about the damning details in the new book by bob woodward about how donald trump was making himself accessible to vladimir putin. former cia director john brennan will join us on saturday to discuss. we have called in the big dog this is the weekend. weekend. so, what are you thinking? i'm thinking... (speaking to self) about our honeymoon. what about africa? safari?
6:37 am
hot air balloon ride? swim with elephants? wait, can we afford a safari? great question. like everything, it takes a little planning. or, put the money towards a down-payment... ...on a ranch ...in montana ...with horses let's take a look at those scenarios. j.p. morgan wealth management has advisors in chase branches and tools, like wealth plan to keep you on track. when you're planning for it all... the answer is j.p. morgan wealth management.

and will will will will we are learning some damning details about the relationship between donald trump and vladimir putin thanks to veteran journalist bob woodward's new book. after leaving office trump spoke with putin as many as seven times after he left office. he also reports that trump sent the russian president covid testing equipment at the height of the pandemic in 2020. while we could not get it vladimir putin got it directly.
6:40 am
>> the republican party not be saddling up to vladimir putin and i think it is a big concern coming out at this time which i am glad it is. again as i said is governors it is unconscionable we were not getting this equipment and vladimir putin was. >> joining us is the former cia news director and - analyst john brennan. welcome director to see your pick-you. >> if this reporting is to be believed and i believe it, i would like to know how did donald trump get covid test to gladden her -. people watching don't understand random people cannot pick up the phone and call up russia just make their way over there it is not work like that. there are specific lines of communication, what is happening? what do you make of this reporting? >> it is not surprising and we
6:41 am
know how much donald trump and vladimir putin have been best buds for a number of years. the fact a president of united states can do these things should give us concern about donald trump getting back into the white house. he can do these things irrespective of logic, common sense or u.s. national security. who knows what he did in terms of his conversations that bob woodward says he had with latimer putin and giving these tests. the president of the united states has tremendous authority and discretion in terms of what he can do and clearly donald trump does a lot of things outside of the light of day because he wants to do it and it is in his personal interest to do it not in the interest of the united states. >> you have multiple embers of the trump ministration now out on the campaign trail stumping for vice president kamala harris. in talking about their experience in the trump administration. take a listen to what alyssa
6:42 am
farrah griffin had to say about the number of trump staffers supporting vice president kamala harris. >> now america is known all throughout the world as occupied america, they call it occupied we are being occupied by a criminal force. we are in an occupied state that refuses to let our great law enforcement professionals do the job the so dearly want to do. >> do we have e- 73 can we play that? >> his own vice president is not supporting him. multiple former chiefs of staff former national security advisers alterable former department of defense heads chairman of the joint chief of staff debbie press secretary and other white house contractor. the list goes on all of us who saw him up close and personal as president in some of the seniormost roles in most consequential roles are the people saying he should be nowhere near the oval office. this has never happened before.
6:43 am
>> it is extraordinary that this many people even those who are not choosing to support publicly vice president kamala harris are simply saying this man cannot be allowed near the white house again. what signal does it send you that extraordinary list alyssa farrah griffin went through. she is saying this man is a threat to our national security. >> it should be a warning call to the american public in terms of what dangers we might face if donald trump is elected president. clearly people like john kelly, john bolton, secretary esper and all of those. these individuals with many years of experience in the national security front did see up close and personal dangerous and irresponsible donald trump was. that is why again i find it unsurprising we have so many of these individuals who have dedicated their lives to protect the interest of this country are coming out publicly and singly danger donald trump
6:44 am
is. i find it so surreal not more americans are listening to what is clearly going to be very much a dangerous situation if donald trump gets back into the oval office. >> i think that is a profoundly important point that folks are in some sense sort of dismissive of to put it well that is foreign-policy or something outside but it is all connected in so many ways and the connective tissue for me what i want to focus on right now is the fact that donald trump had seven that we know of conversations since leaving office with vladimir putin. could you speak a little bit about whether or not that is unusual for a former president to have that level of contact with an adversary let alone a foreign leader? and what - how does that happen? is there any way our government is aware of what was actually
6:45 am
communicated. we do have some sense in the covid conversation that vladimir putin was like okay do not tell them you have given me this because they will come after you more than me and donald is like okay but i am happy to tell them. how does this work with this communication? >> i do not know if the u.s. intelligence community is aware of the calls as well as the content but clearly this is so unusual. you might reach out to a foreign leader but it would be non-substantive. but if in fact the content was such, it could have been a violation of u.s. law. the logan act which prohibits any u.s. citizen from engaging in diplomacy with foreign governments with an intent to try to adjust their conduct in any type of controversy or dispute with the united states government. clearly we have a lot of disputes ongoing with vladimir
6:46 am
putin, most notably ukraine. if donald trump had a conversation with latimer putin and he was encouraging him to weigh in with the republican party in congress to weigh in against giving aid to ukraine that could be a violation of the foreign agents registration act because he would be lobbying on behalf of a foreign government. i do not know about the content or if the authorities are aware of this and what might be done about it but clearly, donald trump is somebody who is addicted to flattery and vladimir putin is a master manipulator and knows how to flatter donald trump. again, the fact that bob woodward reported this is not surprising it is not confirmed but, it is clear that donald trump has an agenda here as does latimer putin. this is the most important presidential race for vladimir putin because the first u.s. presidential election since the invasion of ukraine. this is really an exercise to challenge two vladimir putin to try to salvage something out of that ruthless and brutal
6:47 am
aggression in ukraine. donald trump is his savior. if donald trump gets back into the oval office who knows what he will do and he will do it unilaterally because the authorities of a president of united states are fast. >> would argue even more so given the latest ruling from the supreme court. it makes no sense. i have more questions for you but we are almost out of time. told director brennan needs to come back every weekend we will see what we can get. before you go, minister netanyahu and the president spoke with for the first time in months as the mideast crisis has deepened. i am wondering your take on just the cease-fire deal and the lack thereof thus far. the current cia director has been one of the lead negotiators traveled back and forth to the region to try to get something on the table.
6:48 am
it seems as though we are further away from a cease-fire between frankly now there are multiple fronts. what is happening on the border of israel with lebanon also obviously the conflict between hamas and the israelis. your thoughts on where we are right now? the mac it has been clear to me that prime minister netanyahu is not interested in having a cease-fire. what he wants to do is try to exact as much punishment as possible against those organizations and the people there. the tragedy that is going to continue to get worse. we have over 42,000 palestinians in gaza dead and 100,000 injured. in lebanon also received the devastation taking place there. quite frankly, i think we, as americans, need to be as outraged about the loss of innocent lebanese life as we
6:49 am
are about the loss of israeli life. clearly there seems to be a disequilibrium therapy for how much we react to the suffering the loss of life of the palestinian people. which continues to go on and benjamin netanyahu i think will continue with his right wing were cabinet and try to do as much as possible to not only diminish the capabilities of his adversaries in the region but also to try to devastate a lot of the region as a whole. >> thank you so much for coming on like simone says there is a space here just pull right up. .

ticket. >> i love sort of the natural, the naturalness of all of this the conversation kamala harris had about being a gun owner. we see the governor doing gubernatorial things governors do stuff like that but it is also part of his lifestyle and i think that is an important thing for people to see as we barrel in the last 20 some days of this campaign we hope to elect people who do ordinary things like ordinary folks. but have a heightened appreciation of what that service now calls them to do. that is why they are running because they want to bring those ordinary things and do extraordinary things with them. i love these type of scenes. i hope the american people appreciate it. it is not yelling at them not demonizing them. he is not out here talking about eating cats and dogs.
