political leader of hamas, as well as nasrallah, the leader of hezbollah in lebanon. nobody could have imagined a year ago that all four of those men would be eliminated. the twin goals of this war have supposedly been all along, destroy or dismantle hamas and get the hostages home. the focus now needs to be on getting the release of the hostages and moving to the next phase of what will happen next with gaza and what will happen next with the israeli/palestinian conflict writ large. israel cannot afford to be in a forever war, a forever hot war in gaza like they've been. look at what's happened around it. the level of destruction is insane. the world tolerance for it is over. we heard biden, blinken, harris yesterday say this is an opportunity to end the war. we heard netanyahu say this is the beginning of the end of the war. he needs to move to, this is an opportunity to end the war by releasing the hostages and moving to the next phase. >> certainly to this point in
4:31 am
the conflict, netanyahu ignored a lot of what the u.s. officials had to say. give us a quick sense about the political situation netanyahu now faces. you're right, he has a string of wins. he has the wind at his back it would seem, but there is a real outcry in israel to bring the hostages home. he's navigating the conservative forces in his coalition. what do you think happens next with that at home for him? >> yeah, i mean, this is a test of whether it is about netanyahu or about israel. there was a poll released right on october 7th, the anniversary, that showed that a majority of israelis now oppose the way the war is being prosecuted, want focus to shift on releasing the hostages. you saw hostage families yesterday in reaction to this talking about what this would mean for them, that the focus needed to be on releasing the hostages. i was gratified to hear netanyahu say if people are releasing the hostages
4:32 am
immediately, they will not be harmed. that is a positive step. but how forcefully they focus on that, how quickly they focus on that is the test right now. an israeli analyst noted there was no response from hamas in terms of, like, a rocket barrage after the death was confirmed. that's a sign that the leadership being dismantled, sinwar being killed, has actually destroyed hamas. i mean, they are not in a position to strike right now. that's an opportunity for netanyahu to say that his goal has been achieved. >> editor in chief of the ford, jodi, thank you so much for being with us this morning. mika, what max miller said a moment ago echoed reporting i have, as well. we should expect a strong u.s. push to convince netanyahu to come back to the negotiating table, declare victory, move to the next phase, and try to bring the hostages home. >> yes. still ahead on morning joe, billionaire elon musk pushes

joe." it is 37 past the hour. billionaire elon musk promoted debunked conspiracy theories, lies, about election fraud while hitting the campaign trail to stump for donald trump. at a town hall outside philadelphia, attendees were required to sign a petition supporting the first and second amendments, and be a registered voter in the state. there, musk referred to the false conspiracy theory that dominion voting systems was part of a plot to rig u.s. elections. >> well, there is, i think, some amount of cheating that takes place. it's hard because they have --

you know, when you have mail-in ballots and no sort of proof of citizenship, it becomes almost impossible to prove cheating, is the issue. you know, a lot of people on the dems side will say, there's no cheating. i'm like, you've made it impossible to actually prove that there's cheating. but statistically, some very strange things happened that are statistically, incredibly unlikely. you know, there's always a question of, say, the dominion voting machines. it is weird that, you know, i think they were used in philadelphia and maricopa county, but not in a lot of other places. doesn't that seem like a heck of a coincidence? >> that audience did not get this disclaimer, that it is false that dominion participated in efforts to manipulate elections, and the company pointed out it does not serve philadelphia county. last year, it struck a $787

million settlement with fox news in its defamation lawsuit against the media outlet over such claims. fox has paid for their lies, for the lies about them. another trump ally who is continuing to push election conspiracy theories, even though it may cost him his seat in the house, is republican congressman scott perry of pennsylvania. the former chair of the far-right freedom caucus repeated debunked claims that the 2020 election was stolen in his debate earlier this month. you may remember, congressman perry from his alleged role in multiple plots to overturn the 2020 election ahead of january 6th, perry's phone was seized by federal agents which revealed a plan to change the u.s. attorney general to the now indicted jeffrey clark. stay with me.
4:41 am
congressman perry is now in a fight for his political survival against democrat challenger janelle stellson, who joins us now. welcome to the show. >> thank you. >> your race is pretty much a microcosm of the presidential election. a woman, democrat running against a man who is an election denier. so i am curious, when you are campaigning, what is breaking through to people who may be armed with a lot of disinformation, who may be long-time trumpers, trump supporters? are you finding an effective way to communicate facts versus fiction? and how does that -- what does that look like? >> well, i think we have a lot of common ground.
4:42 am
i think people are far more to the center than sometimes they're made out to be in the media. we always hear about the extremes, but most people just want an affordable life where they can take care of their kids, put food on the table, send them to a good college if that's what is in their future. i hear an awful lot about that. i also hear about apportion and a woman's right to be in control of her own body. they don't seem to think that government knows better than their doctors do or long-time politicians like scott perry. that's just a bridge too far. i was live on the set two years ago when the supreme court handed down dobbs, overturned roe, and had to look at the camera and tell every woman watching her rights had been rolled back 50 years. turns out, nobody is happy about that. there is a very clear and i think, you know, a lot of it is about january 6th that's kind of morphed into a theme i'm hearing, that washington is deeply broken. people want term limits. they don't want career politicians like scott perry,

know. when scott perry is the only person in pennsylvania's congressional delegation, republican or democrat, to vote against giving medals to the police, capitol police and the other officers who guarded our bastion of democracy and tried to keep the damage to a minimum, and also protected his life and the life of his colleagues, you know, he's the only one who voted not to give them a medal for that. a few hours later, after they kept him safe, you know, he could walk back into the chamber safely and vote to overturn all of our votes. turns out, people who vote really want those votes to count. >> janelle, i was just in pennsylvania this past weekend. a little east of where the district is where you're seeking to represent. it was nonstop political advertisement. virtually everything the republicans were putting up was about immigration. can you talk to us about how you feel like that issue -- obviously your district far from

the border -- is resonating? what do you tell your constituents about it? >> well, and even though it is far from the border, it's a big deal here, too. we have a lot of migrant labor. we have a lot of apples to pick, that kind of thing. you know, we need those workers. i will say about the border, we absolutely -- this is a matter of national security. we have to secure the border. my opponent, scott perry, flew there on the taxpayer dime a couple months ago and said this is a, you know, news flash that we have a crisis at the border and blamed it all on the democrats. for me, this is an american problem. you know, the fact that he would be interested in scuttling that bipartisan immigration bill that would have moved us a little closer to securing the border, that's a real problem for folks in this area. for me, this is an american issue. it is not a democratic or republican issue. we must secure the border. if people don't have a legitimate claim to be here, they need to be sent home to their native countries in an
