good morning and welcome to this saturday edition of "morning joe weekend." let's get right to the conversations you might have missed. >> so, you're not joe biden, you are not donald trump but nothing comes to mind that you would do differently? >> let me be very clear, my presidency will not be a continue and see if joe biden's presidency. like every new president that comes into office, i will bring my life experiences, my professional experiences and fresh and new ideas. i represent a new generation of leadership. i, for example, am someone who has not spent the majority of my career in washington, d.c. i invite ideas, whether it be from the republicans that are supporting me, who were just on stage with me minutes ago, and the business sector. and others who can contribute to the decisions that i make about, for example, my plan for increasing the supply of housing in america.

>> that was vice president kamala harris on fox news last night about her prayer -- her presidency will be different of that of joe biden's. welcome to the fourth hour morning joe at 6:00 a.m. on the west coast. 9:00 a.m. in the east. willie, we've been talking all morning about that interview. it was tough, it was aggressive. someone say it was slanted and contextually incorrect. yet, kamala harris quebec fighting and stood her ground, trying to make sure the viewers of fox news get a sense of what's at stake if donald trump become the next president. but it was challenging. what's your take? >> it was one of those interviews were depends where you sit to determine the way you watch the interview, which is, if you are watching through the eyes of a trump supporter and someone who has got your information from fox news you probably think that bayer did a good job representing the point of view and picking apart kamala harris. i do think questions were fair.
3:03 am
in love how they were asked without giving her a chance to answer them. but i also think she did a good job, not only of standing her ground, but of correcting the interview in the middle of the interview. in this one moment we are going to show this key exchange where this question of donald trump saying, again and again now, that there is an enemy within the united states. he said, don't worry about putting in the external allies. we can handle them. if the enemy within. talk about democrats like adam schiff and nancy pelosi. during the fox news interview bret baier played a portion of donald trump's comments from the tone on fox news that day. he didn't actually play the relevant part. here is what they did show, followed by the former president's full remarks. >> he's the one who talks about an enemy from within. an enemy within. talking about the american people, suggesting he would turn the american military on the american people. >> we ask that question to the former president today. harris faulkner had a townhall and this is how he responded.
3:04 am
>> i heard about that. they were saying i was like threatening., threatening anybody. they are the ones doing the threatening. they do phony investigations. i've been investigated more than alphonse capone. it's true. it's called, weaponization of government. it's a terrible thing. >> brett, i'm sorry, and with all due respect, that clip was not what he has been saying about the enemy within that he has repeated when he is speaking about the american people. no, no, no. that's not what you showed. in all fairness and respect to you. >> that was the question we asked him. >> you didn't show that. here is the bottom line. he has repeated it many times. you and i both know that. you and i both know that he has talked about the american military on the american people. he has talked about going after people who are engaged in peaceful protest. he has talked about locking people up because they disagree with him. this is a democracy. and in a

democracy the president of the united states, in the united states of america, should be willing to be able to handle criticism without saying he would lock people up for doing it. and this is what is at stake, which is why you have someone like the former chairman of the joint chiefs of staff saying what mark has said about donald trump being a threat to the united states of america. >> you know what they are? they are a party of -- somebody asked me, can they be brought together? i never thought, really, they could. because they are very different . it is the enemy from within. they are very dangerous. they are marxist, communists, fascists. i use a guy like adam schiff because they made up the

happened in the interview last night that we just showed followed by the real clip. what the vice president did when she called out brett and fox news of showing a misleading clip, she gave americans an extremely valuable insight, and extremely valuable lesson. there's a whole ecosystem in the world of fox news and their viewers that feeds information to the viewers this way, in a misleading way. either leaving out key points, avoiding key parts of the story , trying to protect donald trump in their narrative. and she pulled the mask off in real time and said, look at what you are doing. you are misleading the american people. you showed a clip that had nothing to do with what we were talking about. and he did address it in that town hall and you chose not to show the

information that would be valuable to your viewers. it was a service. it was an incredible, real-time explanation of what happens with misleading information, and if i may say it, disinformation. but the question, david french, i have for you is, will it be enough? >> at this point it really is remarkable with the twists and turns in the race. in normal races it would have ended this thing. in normal races, the first debate, would have ended this thing given donald trump's record. we are talking now about adjusting votes at the absolute margins on a day by day, week by week basis. any given hour it seems as if the momentum switches at that small, small margin.
3:09 am
i don't think we can say anything about will this make a difference or not. we are just at the incredible margin right now. and it's staggering that we are here. it's stunning that many people will vote for somebody that has demonstrated such corruption and menace as donald trump. but here we are. >> let's get your take on this interview yesterday. maybe last about bret baier, you're welcome. but why did the vice president way into that arena in the first place? love the camping told me, look, yes, it was an appeal to some of those on the fence republicans. or at the very least to say things to a fox news audience they don't normally here, including the idea that so much of donald trump's cabinet and his former vice president are not supporting him this time around. they also said she showed real toughness by going in there and standing toe to toe. it was clearly an unfriendly venue. >> i am not of the ilk that she had to do that. there are people out there that said she had to have done a fox

news interview the reality is, i think, today we are learning, according to brian, that a poorly donald trump has postponed, that's what they're calling it, another interview with our nbc news like christine romans come on top of cnbc, on top of postponing and not participating in "60 minutes." however, if the campaign is saying there out there to get physical vote, as the campaign has said, if the vice president has been clear that one, she doesn't want any unforced errors. two, she's not going to allow anyone to say she didn't in this nomination, they have to meet the voters where they are and go to all of the places where the voters you are looking to get read, watch and listen to. that means going into doing the fox news interview. because some of the voters within the kamala harris coalition, that is one of the places that they watch. right? it's one of the places that they listen to. i thought that the vice president held her own. i was really floored, frankly, by the tone of the interview. i've been in the room and prepped the vice president for
3:11 am
a number of interviews that ended up being tough. i've sat there. i know what a tough interview sounds like. there's a difference between a tough interview and an abrasive interview. interviews do not have to be abrasive. i think donald trump has ruined many of us in the media apparatus to believe that a tough interview has to be an abrasive interview. more than that, the tone of the interview. from the first question. i watched it live. i was listening to it. i said, i need to see this. and to know that the first question out of the mouth of the interviewer was important, about immigration. but the way that the question was phrased. how many quote unquote illegal immigrants would you say you and the president went out to the country? excuse me? come on, y'all. you all know that's not how this works. there is a level of just respect, frankly, and reference. just respect that i think the american media can afford to a

sitting president and sitting vice president. there are times where we have to put respect to the side because people are lying, they are not telling the truth. this was not that. in this interview vice president harris, for lack of a better term, match the energy that bret baier brought while also getting her message out. she didn't allow him to talk over her. she dropped her website. she introduced information, frankly, that they had not heard before. for that reason it was a win. is not the only thing she has going forward. i thought it was important. it was crazy. >> we have lots more to get to this hour. rigged election and that's why they came. some of those people went down to the capital. i said, peacefully and patriotically. nothing done wrong at all. nothing done wrong. action was taken, strong action. ashley babbitt was killed, there were no guns down there, the others had guns but we didn't have guns. when i say we, these are people that walked down. this was a tiny percentage of the overall, which nobody sees and nobody shows. but that was a day of love from the standpoint. it's like hundreds of thousands. the largest group i've ever spoken before. my question to you, very respectfully, is do you really believe these people are eating the people's pets? >> thank you. >> thank you very much. this was just reported. i was just saying what was reported. that's been reported. and eating other things too that they're not supposed to be. all i do is report. i was there, i'm going to be there and we are going to take a look. i will give you full report when i do. that has been in the newspapers and reported pretty broadly.

i will say this, as far as springfield is concerned, because i do know that situation. you have a city of 52,000 people and they've added almost 30,000 migrants into the city. if you are a person that lived there, if you lived in springfield, ohio and all of a sudden you could get into a hospital, you can get your children into school, you wouldn't be able to buy groceries, you can no longer pay the rent because the government is paying rent, if any of that happened it would be a disaster for you and you wouldn't be happy. >> so again, you have a situation where former president trump is being asked questions and he proceeds to lie, many times, and he's allowed to drone on and on with those lies, unchecked. joining us now is former president of univision and former president and ceo of telemundo. thank you very much for coming on the show this morning. i'm wondering how you felt how

this town hall went. univision, last night. if he was ever able to win over more voters from the community. >> you are talking a few minutes ago about this echo system. what happened last night at the univision town hall, it was an extension of that. it was really not a tone of hall. it was an infomercial in which they brought in an audience's props. they did ask tough questions. but of course, he went on to recite his concert of lies without any integrity on the part of the network, without any fact checking. he spoke, uninterrupted, saying many of the things that we have seen him say the last few months.
3:20 am
some of the things he has been saying the last few months, which are very relevant to hispanics, were not brought up. for example, that we are poisoning the blood of this country. that we includes me and my family. that he is working on the largest deportation project in american history. where he is planning to read and put in camps millions of people. obviously he went on talking about the haitians in springfield. legal citizens of this country, which we are invited by that city to help provide services and jobs. it goes on and on.
3:21 am
i think he covered the subject at length this morning. the question here is univision did not distinguish themselves as being a true news organization. and serve as a platform, for close to an hour, of his continuing recital of lies. >> good morning. as you said, there are so many issues central to the lives of latino americans in this country that were not addressed yesterday. i guess the question is, why? because donald trump went there, haley goes places where he knows he will have a friendly reception. on the example that we showed there about the immigrants eating the pets in springfield, ohio, which is so quickly and easily refuted by the facts. you can say, fellow publicans, the governor, others said that's nonsense. why is it, in this case, deeply
3:22 am
he was not held to account or pressed on some of his lies? >> julie, i cannot respond to the network. the person that was conducting, let's call it the townhall, it was the same person that did what i call a propaganda project. the main anchor of the univision network is jorge ramos. one of the most respected journalists in america. and if the network was serious about conducting this in a journalistic manner you would have thought that jorge would have to be the person doing the interview and the townhall. yet, they again decided to put on some of that they brought from mexico and the results are what you saw last night.

were they allowed trump to freely, as i said again, reciting his traditional list of lies. >> former president of univision, telemundo, and joaquin, thank you both. thank you very much for coming on. and i meant to say that you are headed up both networks. i really appreciate your important insights this morning . thank you very much. coming up, is the current democratic worrying we are seeing about the harris campaign warranted or a case of political ptsd? john hellman weighs in on that next.
