breaking news in the war in gaza where hopes of a rekindled cease-fire deal have appeared to dampen following the death of hamas leader yahya sinwar. hamas saying sinwar's death would not alter the course of the war or lead to the release of hostages until israel fully withdraws. this coming as a drone strike was launched from lebanon toward israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu's house north of tel aviv. netanyahu was not there at the time and no casualties were reported. and israeli strikes on hospitals in northern gaza killing more than 50 people. joining me now from tel aviv. what can you tell us about the fallout overall from sinwar's death and the latest round of fighting?

>> reporter: first a few more details on that drone attack on the prime minister's residence according to benjamin netanyahu's office. it is an unmanned aircraft essentially and was part of a barrage of uavs as they are called, drones and rockets fired from lebanon into israel. this one did not cause damage or casualties, but another unmanned aircraft, the shrapnel from that killed a man in a parked vehicle and then there were also big explosions in southern beirut as well, by the israeli military. this happened in the lebanese capital and you mentioned in the introduction, these hopes dashed for a cease-fire deal. we heard from president biden right after the announcement that yahya sinwar had been killed, that this perhaps would open the door to an agreement, but those hopes were quickly dashed. not by hamas but by the prime minister of israel, benjamin netanyahu himself, who addressed the nation saying the

right now voters in arizona are making their voices heard for a second weekend and one of the most-watched states. ali velshi sat down with a diverse group of voters and got a fascinating window into what is motivating them. my friend ali velshi will join me now from phoenix. i'm glad to see you. i won't even get into the cool hat and jacket, but we will talk when you are back in the studio. what i will ask you about, my friend, your takeaways from this conversation. what stands out most? >> reporter: i love coming to arizona, because people have these conversations here. i had a group of people from across the political spectrum, three of whom i had spoken to before, but what really stood out was talking to the republicans on the panel about what they are feeling and the coming election. listen to what they told me. is it your view that you will remain a republican for the time to come? >> yes in arizona. it is difficult to be an

it is your race, your culture, your faith. i was attracted to the republican party because it was less government. we were supposed to be getting out of people's lives and respecting how they choose to live and respecting that in harmony and we have become the overreach. we have become precisely the opposite. >> reporter: alex, i was here in 2020, in 2022 and here now. we have a situation where a lot of republicans are voting for the harris-walz ticket and yet this state remains deadlocked. there is still a slight donald trump advantage with two weeks to go to the election. it is a tight race, but there are a lot of republicans who have decided they are coming out not just to vote for harris and walls, but to campaign for them. >> can i ask you, and you don't have to say for whom she is voting, but that first woman, did you get an answer for whom she was voting? i was not 100% sure.
10:43 am
>> reporter: that is a good catch. i did ask them all at the beginning of the interview who they are voting for. all of them, the republicans and democrats are voting for harris and walz. they are proud of the republican, conservative heritage. there is a lot of disdain for election deniers basically on the statewide ballot. they keep invoking john mccain in a state where people judged policies and made decisions and did not vote blindly for anyone, so they are all harris- walz. >> last question. did you get a sense from anyone that they feel like the republican genie is out of the bottle and they will never be able to put it back to what it was in the john mccain era before that? >> reporter: in this state the republicans i talked to are very keen to go back to what it was. there are some republicans who think this has to burn to the ground and a new party has to emerge and others think it donald trump loses they can reclaim their party. i never got a real balance on

the law. >> trump references the enemy within. with a trump administration use the military to go after people? >> of course not. >> that was quick. it sounds like vance just wants this to go away. what makes these trump remarks particularly concerning to you? >> one of the factors that concerns me is we are seeing this multiple times and in multiple places. these are not one-offs. we can no longer say he had a bad day, he is tired, he's exhausted, he is old. it is from those around him. it is included in project 2025. the notion of holding people accountable for misusing government positions. for opposing trump. no one misused their position in prosecuting those around trump. people like you and me set on ground juries. and americans sat on the trial

trump team is going to declare victory with j.d. vance at his side and they will pressure courts, pressure state legislatures. they will pressure governors and pressure the united states congress to throw out the popular vote and get this election through shenanigans. >> frank, are there steps that can be taken now to avoid chaos or a massive crisis? >> clearly we should not be surprised when trump refuses to accept the outcome of the election and for a protracted period of time before we know who won. that leaves people with violent intentions to do really bad things. with regard to what is being done now, there are teams of lawyers working hard in the private sector and attached to the harris campaign who are doing what they can and the states that are trying the hardest to suppress the vote. we also know that the department of justice has filed

today in pennsylvania, members of philadelphia's black motorcycle club took a ride through historically black neighborhoods, helping to encourage voter turnout. the voter registration deadline is monday and with recent polls showing kamala harris and donald trump neck and neck in that state, the black male vote is a critical factor. we will go doubt -- go now to philadelphia. tell us about this motorcycle ride and who the voters support and why. >> reporter: forgive me first of all if it is a little loud. the bikers just got in here. west philadelphia. take a look over here at dozens of black bikers, led by the reverend of the biggest black church in philadelphia. also the organization, black men vote, in collaboration with black bikers vote, have come

together to make noise literally and figuratively about the role they can play in this election. making some attention grabbing efforts to make sure brothers know to get involved. i talked to a number of them who spoke about the idea of black men being seen as more than a political pawn. they are full humans, full citizens. take a listen. >> i think both parties make a mistake of assuming that when you talk to blackman about criminal justice reform, you've answered our questions. but we are entrepreneurs and business persons and homeowners. we are people with student loans because we graduated from college and we want some real discussions around economic matters in the community. and so a myopic and parochial view of black men makes some think that we have nothing to say, but that is not the case.
10:58 am
>> reporter: alex, this narrative has been spread for the last several weeks that black men, especially young black men, are somehow disconnected, but across the country and in philadelphia this weekend, also the voter registration deadline that is monday. i am hearing that blackman want to find a way to be engaged politically to make sure resources are spread throughout the community. it is not as if folks are wayward, but they are telling politicians you've got to connect. this group is out to send a signal, send a message that black men are connected and they want other young folks to be part of the process. >> absolutely and have their voices heard. get out and vote. trymaine lee, thank you so much for that. in the meantime we have former president barack obama stumping for harris again today. last night in arizona. obama roasted former president trump on multiple fronts. we will bring in alex cabot in phoenix, where early voting is in full swing. alex, welcome.
10:59 am
first of all how effective will these rallies be in swaying voters? what is your take on that? >> reporter: well, alex, the harris-walz campaign is deploying former president barack obama hoping to garner enthusiasm among young voters, black voters and hispanic voters, all critical components of a winning democratic coalition. last night in tucson, former president obama spent a lot of his speech focusing on former president donald trump and making jokes about him, painting him to be an unfit candidate for the oval office. i want you to hear some of what obama had to say last night in tucson. >> along with his intentions there is also the question of his incompetence. have you seen him lately? i mean he has out there. he is giving 2 1/2 hours speeches. just word salads. he made january 6 sound like it was woodstock. you would be worried.
