welcome back to a new hour of 'morning joe: weekend'. let's kick off where we left

off with some of the important stories we discussed over the past week. just imagine donald trump with no guardrails. right? he who has filed if reelected he will be a dictator on day one. he who has called, he who has called for the, "termination of the constitution of the united states of america. and let us be very clear. someone who suggests we should terminate the constitution of the united states should never again stand behind the seal of the president of the united states. >> all right. that was vice president kamala harris, rally across wisconsin yesterday.

we will speak with one of her campaign national cochairs in just a moment. but i want to take to that question she just put to her audience. welcome back to morning show. it is friday, if you can believe, october 18th. i want to imagine, donald trump with no guardrails. i think it is really important that she brought up that point. we will get to major development in the middle east in just a moment. but to wind my way to foreign policy, trump with no guardrails is a threat to his adversaries, to members of the media and that includes members of, frankly, media, foxnews, newsmax come all these networks i think if they are in the tank for him they will somehow get a pass, they won't. he turns on everybody. republicans, those voting for

donald trump are voting against themselves because their freedoms in this country will be taken away. and he will be taking away the freedoms of the american people. something is threatening to due to political adversaries and that could be anybody that he does not like. that could be a show he does not like. that could be something said at a baseball game that he does not like. does that sound crazy? she is crazy. she is overreacting. hold on. hold on. let me bring it back to reality. it is not an overreaction, it is actually what he is saying. you can talk about that, talk about what he is saying or you can look at what he's saying. and i am imploring the american public to listen to what he is saying. because he has already done this. he has already taken away freedoms. and apostle repetitive, that is okay. i am hoping it will break through. he has taken away 50 years of freedoms for women in this country and that has already happened. women's access to life-saving

healthcare is gone under donald trump and his strict abortion bans and women have been bleeding out and sterilize and forced to suffer and even die because of the freedoms that donald trump has taken away from women in america. when i talk about the concerns here at home, they are very real. and this is where we love for you to comment. what what our position in the world be with donald trump as president again? >> i have covered six american elections now and in the selection we have two former secretaries of defense, a former joint chiefs of staff, a former national security advisor and a former chief of staff of donald trump soul saying he is unfit to be president of the united states.

>> that -- fascist to the core. that is what one of them set. >> i have never covered an election in america and have not covered one in modern times where you have had that array of senior people from the national security side, the people who are charged with helping protect the united states interests and security, who have come out and said this person should not be sitting in the oval office. that is the fact, right. it just does not happen. when you talked republicans who are on the fence about donald trump or say, i like the tax cuts or i don't like the personality but he is not really going to do all of those things that he says, i think it is worth reminding people of the people -- that is why kamala harris is campaigning with republicans. the people within his own administration. the extraordinary number of people from the trump administration who have come

out and said that he would be a threat to america's freedoms. >> let's bring in the national cochair for the harris/walz campaign. mitch landrieu. served as a senior white house advisor to president biden and he is traveling with bill clinton and tim walz. mitch, where do we begin? >> that is a good place. >> this election, kamala harris seems to be making the case that this election is about something sacred and about our safety and our freedom and unfortunately, some policy debates and you know, some positions and opinions are, are not for today. it is unfortunate. nobody wants that. nobody wants that more than morning joe. which was supposed to be and was created, as sort of an

island of civility and acn voices were both sides could talk about issues that you -- disagree on. and get this campaign seems to be about something else. am i right? if so, can you explain? >> of course. thank you so much for that. of course in america where we come to the table of democracy as equals and we all respect each other, we can and should have vigorous debate about policy. what should the tax code look like? do you favor trickle-down economics? do you favor from the bottom up the middle out? the contrast could not be starker between the campaigns. there was something much more important at stake right now that is democracy itself and the ability of us as americans to actually enjoy the freedoms that the constitution bestows upon us. the thing that is not changed

since donald trump came down the elevator, although he's got much better at being bad, donald trump is unfit for the presidency. if you don't believe democrats and you don't believe the mainstream media or fox, that is okay. donald trump himself. people to work for him at the highest reaches you know more about our national security than anybody. when you have a general milley or you have a general mattis or a mark esper or a john kelly, these are all men that donald trump picked, he picked them to beat him who are now telling us to be careful because donald trump is actually using power to help himself and to hurt his enemies and is unfit, besides the fact he seems a little bit out of whack the last couple months as you could tell, that is a red flag that the people of america should pay attention to. i am a political opponent of donald trump so i take very seriously and i take literally his threats to hurt his political enemies because i stand against him, as does president clinton, as the evidently by the polls that is half of america. when you do that to hate on people in the power of the

in the day, 2016. what is the permission structure? i would think that they would not want to feel like this is a bait and switch and there is a way for the republican party to come back without donald trump. this is not a republican party right now. >> no. >> they know it. there are those who are like, this is not the party i recognize. what is the permission structure? are you hearing it from any of your republican friends in the business community, that can be created for a vote for kamala harris at a time like this. >> you know, as we talked to a lot of people who vote for trump , and i say to them and i -- i cannot figure out, do they not believe it or do they not care? do they not understand that our freedom is on the line? do they not get that? or do they just not care? do they take freedom for granted at this point?

>> i think so. >> when you hear the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, who has been in the room with him and say, he is a fascist to the core. he is a danger to america. do they think he is making that up? do they so care about their 3% tax cut? what is it? and i challenge people and say, you do understand that he will -- he will turn on this country and he will turn us into hungry. you not understand the freedoms that started, as you brought up, it started with roe v. wade and it will continue by putting his enemies in jail. it will continue by having unfair media. are the people run the stable that are worried? are you worried going forward that you are on the list if donald trump is elected? yes or no? >> i am convinced i am on the list. i am not sure how we will not be. >> think about that. this is america. the united states of america

and people in the media like the reverend have to be concerned they may be on a list. i have people saying to me, are you worried? this is america and yet people will still get permission to vote for donald trump. what is wrong with us? >> now you know you're on the list and you have to keep yourself off the list and make sure to do your part. and you have been working hard for the harris's campaign on behalf of democrats. donny is talking about addressing republicans and the question asked, what is the permission structure for republicans? the other group we see harris targeting now are black voters. we saw a lot of the media strategy has been like that over the last week. how do you think she is doing on that and how concerned are you still, to the extent you are concerned, about particularly young black men but particularly about base turnout among african-americans and in the core battleground

states? >> i think we will turn a turnout that will be way above and beyond what has been predicted. i have done nonpartisan doors in ohio, now pennsylvania, going to georgia for the interview with her. and wherever i go there has been enthusiasm for kamala harris. it reminds me not too long ago when i heard people in 2012 saying blacks are turning on barack obama and the ended up voting hugely for barack obama. the same kind of rhetoric. is the black are not? same kind of questions on some of what happened in the first term. i have heard this before, and i have seen people comment and vote. you must remember the people that donald trump has representing him in the black community are most the people that have no influence on voters and no way of pulling new, younger voters. and i think that people i'm

right, i see it as whose side you're on. that is why they are spending literary, hundreds of millions of dollars against me. when you take on the drug companies and you take on wall street, when you take on the companies that outsource jobs, they come after you and i knew they would. the hundreds of millions of dollars -- we will win in spite of that. asked people to come to sherrod brown.com. i have 12 people in ohio i-4 and i will make that fight and i will ask people to help. sparks senator, ohio is not a battleground in the presidential race has been in the forefront of the national consciousness politically in recent weeks. jd vance, your senate colleague from your state, made the false claims about springfield, ohio, when he said migrants reading pets and yesterday as we spent a lot of time on this morning, flat out said that he does not think that donald trump lost the 2020 election. can we get your reaction to

your senate colleague what this is about the republican party today. >> jd vance, it is a little bit like an arranged marriage. jd vance. my job is to represent people in ohio and keep my focus on ohio workers. in the last week i mentioned i have been to lordstown and i was in chillicothe where they have tried to close a veterans hospital and i work with jessica and they asked me and the mayor and others to keep that hospital open. i have been and continue to talk to firefighters in cleveland, where they endorsed me and because i have stood with them in their pensions and other ways. my focus will always be in ohio. national media want to talk about national races, and i am fine with that, but i represent 12 million people in ohio and i will continue to fight for them. that is my job. that is why they hired me. the photos of ohio, they know the way i do this.

the idea, the best ideas that come from washington. i heard about a pension bill from workers in youngstown and dayton and i went back and we fought to restore the pension for 100,000 ohio workers. we heard about the football field size burn pits and went back and worked with people and 40,000 ohioans have already gotten care because of that exposure. the bill is named after in ohio and just like the pension bill is. you get the ideas at home and you go back to washington and you find a partner and you push this through and you make sure it is supplemented. i have them probably 50 roundtables with veterans around the state from defiance to toledo and talk about how do we get the word out that these pensions, that this help is available, because of their exposure to these football sized
