but that is just another -- you know, when we see this in the media, we know that he is not appealing to try and expand his base. what are you looking for is the voters who may be haven't voted in the last 10 or 20 years to come in. that is what he is hoping for. this is a base turnout for donald trump, which will be very unfortunate for donald trump since he is not in control of it and he has outsourced it. again, this vulgarity is just a way to feed his ego. and frankly, to be talking about it. that is how he sucks the air out of the room. >> well, there's more, david, because trump also had a bizarre tangent about golf legend arnold palmer who is from the pennsylvania city where trump was speaking. i'm going to apologize in advance, but here it is, everybody. >> arnold palmer was all man. and i say that with all due respect to women -- and i love
10:31 am
women -- but this guy -- this guy -- this is a guy that was all man. this man was strong and tough. and i refuse to say it, but when he took showers with the other pros, they came out of there and they said, oh, my god. that is unbelievable. >> yeah. so what does trump gain by being so raunchy? i mean, he talks like a reality show host, not like a president. or david, is that what america now wants in the oval office? >> i hope not. full confession, to alex and to the other panelist, i was so afraid last night we were going to talk about this. i don't know how to talk about this. i don't know what the anatomically appropriate language is to use, i will lump this comment in with the insult to the vice president and say
10:32 am
this. here's where i think donald trump is getting all this wrong. this is informing voters going down the stretch, and so is the joy and optimism of vice president harris. with undecided voters -- and they are out there right now -- seeing donald trump is boorish and mean-spirited and dishonoring the presidency, is actually informing their votes. it truly is. i think donald trump is being kind of foolish year, because many of the voters are the soft republicans who simply don't like donald trump and are looking for a reason to vote for vice president harris. >> before i ask my next question to you, don, let's take a listen. stevie wonder is singing happy birthday to kamala harris. that is just cool. >> that's an extremely important moment, alex. what you are seeing is -- with the dr. king holiday to the first african-american and first woman president. it's an extraordinarily important and resonant moment.
10:33 am
>> i love that you put that into context for us. thank you. as i continue asking you this -- chris harris has routinely questioned trump's mental fitness for office. she called out the many reports that trump is canceled interviews due to exhaustion, saying he can't finish a sentence. is this a reality that's going to go through to voters in a way that may be policy details might not? >> i might. but it has always been on display, and it may resonate with voters even more in this particular moment. we got down to crunch time, this is the period where it is time to kind of get serious. trump is not doing that. that may resonate more with people. however, it's important to vote in lieu of democrats recognizing you have two weeks, if you've ever felt engaged in politics, why did you do it but not this time? trump's lunacy has always been on full display. we can expect it to be even crazier over the next two weeks, you should distract
10:34 am
democrats, and people frankly of good faith and conscience of the good work that is left ahead for the next two weeks. >> we looked at what issues are motivating voters to support a particular candidate. it was good news for harris supporting the child tax credit, taxing large corporations and not supporting candidates who believe trump won in 2020. but there was a backing for trump policies. voters approving of sending the military to the border and increasing deportations of undocumented immigrants. the question is, what is truly motivating voters to the ballot box, and will harris's message dominate? >> well, i'm looking at this poll question, and i am smiling, because that's what private polls tend to do, to use what issues they can persuade voters with. whoever is gettable, let's target them with this message. i'm actually more interested in the numbers they had last week, talking about what motivates you to vote. and that is where abortion was
10:35 am
number one on the list and the economy, they are all grouped together. i actually think that the harris campaign should be looking at this as a seven state race, not a national one what they go in and target. and i think we will find different things for different people. we can't talk about it just is a national race. if we want to know is different in pennsylvania from arizona. >> david, why do you think this race is so close? we have analyst saying it's never been this close since bush versus gore in 2000. >> because we are a nation divided and negative partisanship is often more important than issue voting. as a piece of the conversation we often overlook. someone may be motivated by reproductive freedom or the economy they are probably more motivated by what they have come up to believe is the negativity of the other side, the hatred for the other side of the aisle, it is why those final presentable voters are the most sober, conscientious voters.
10:36 am
assessing the candidates and their policies. i would still rather be in the vice president's shoes today. >> i'm counting on you to get us to the next couple of weeks. i will see you next weekend. it was just a mention last night in his speech, if you care about foreign policy, you might feel ill at ease. what donald trump said about a conversation he had, next. e ha. . .

intelligence on israel's plans to attack iran in retaliation for the missile attacks on october 1st. two u.s. officials say the documents appear to be authentic , and the impact of this leak remains unclear. let's go to tel aviv, israel, for more on all of this. the question is, how concerning is all of this? because it comes while israel is ramping up attacks in gaza and lebanon. >> yes, absolutely. it is concerning, although according to a u.s. official who spoke to nbc, it is not considered to be this damaging, although it is still being assessed, just to go over what we know now. these two documents appeared on the messaging app telegram on friday. they were both -- they were both marked top-secret. they were classified documents. i'm looking down to make sure i get the heading exactly right so i don't misquote the title.
10:42 am
one was entitled israel air force continues preparations for strike on iran, and conduct a second large force employment exercise. that is on the 15th and 16th of october, and there was a second document the details by drone activity i israel in preparation for a strike. interestingly, this documents also note, alex, that israel is positioning some ballistic missiles, and this appears to be a defensive measure. now all of this, alex, was supposed to be top-secret, and of course, we are able to access those documents because they were leaked. the big question is, how did they make their way onto this telegram app? who leaked them? is it something from the united states or another country maybe that had access to some of these classified documents? this is all happening against the backdrop of these increased attacks on northern gaza and palestinians, that cruise
10:43 am
inside of guys are able to speak to and are telling us that certain areas of northern gaza are practically sealed off. which is an area in the north of gaza as well is a refugee camp. since october 1st, they have done almost no supplies. and you see the aftermath of some of these israeli airstrikes, these piles and piles of rubble. we understand from authorities there that over 100 people were killed there yesterday, and our crew caught up with one man who today says he saw the result of an israeli airstrike on a residential building. listen. listen. so as you see there, alex, the death of the hamas leader a few
10:44 am
days ago in gaza that some saw as potentially an opportunity to come to a deal, a cease-fire deal would end the fighting and the suffering and allow for the release of hostages, well, that doesn't appear to be on the cards just yet. >> thank you so much. appreciate that. running right now, we have congresswoman barbara lee, democrat from california. she is a member of the appropriations and budget committee and is also a surrogate for the harris campaign. welcome. nice to see you again. look, donald trump mentioned that a rally yesterday and that a meeting with reporters today that he spoke with israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu. typically, this can happen with candidates, certainly is there running for president, which should trump be talking to netanyahu right now considering the big picture circumstances? you see dangers in that? >> in my view, alex, i think first of all, we know that donald trump is not talking to netanyahu about a cease-fire
10:45 am
and release of the hostages. and believe you me, this is a very critical moment. and in fact, we should be moving forward now. there is no reason and no justification for continuing with this war that has killed thousands of people, over 45,000 people -- innocent civilians, women, children, men. in gaza, the hostages are still not released. the regional war is being executed in many ways, which we cautioned about -- i did, early on. and so whatever donald trump is talking to netanyahu about is not in the interest of peace and security for the israelis or the palestinian people. >> with -- death, does it change the dynamic in terms of the amount of aid the u.s. should send israel? the stated goal at the start of the war of decimating hamas,
10:46 am
has that now been achieved by israel? >> listen, there should have been a cease-fire a long time ago. the only pathway to peace is through diplomacy and through trying to help forge a plan for peace and security for the israelis and the palestinians. that has not happened, but that should be the priority. and so there's no justification for the policy of israel or the united states to continue as it was in the past in terms of the security assistance, in terms of arming, and in terms of making the area and the region more volatile. and so now, the many members of congress also who are saying and have said for a while now that we should have a cease- fire, we should help bring together a cease-fire. i think the biden/harris administration is doing everything they can do to get that on track, or back on
10:47 am
track. but it is up to netanyahu and the region to make that decision. and so the hostages deserve this, to be released. they deserve a cease-fire. and of course, the palestinian people deserve to live in peace and security side by side with the israelis, and that is not happening as a result of the policy. >> i would to switch gears here and say on a lighter note, we are going to show you what donald trump is doing right now. he has gone to a mcdonald's. he is -- he has gone to this mcdonald's, and he's in the philadelphia area. he's going to work a friar, apparently, before he goes to the steelers versus jets game. i mean, if you are on his campaign -- and i know you are certainly not, i'm not making any implication of that. what is the logic behind this? we know the guy likes big macs and fillet of fish, and he's use the word love to describe the way he feels about the food there before. but what is this about?
10:48 am
>> there is no logic to it. he has not put forth an economic agenda. he, as you know, appears to be knotwell. and he is engaged in some really bizarre types of activities during this campaign. so this is just another one of those stunts that he will continue on through the campaign , and i think that we need to really focus on making sure that he is not left, of course, because he is a threat to our democracy, but also the harris agenda is about the economy, reducing the cost of living, reducing the cost of prescription drugs, reducing the cost of housing and making life better for everyone. that's what we have to focus on and make sure we get every voter to the polls and make sure the voters vote for the free future, not taking the country backwards, as you can see donald trump continues to try to do.
10:49 am
i'm urging and encouraging everyone to get to the polls and vote for kamala harris and tim walz to be their next president and vice president. >> donald trump has lied repeatedly or rather accused kamala harris lying repeatedly, of working in a mcdonald's way back in the day when she was younger. what is the point of that? >> there is no point. i have known the vice president for over three decades, and she tells the truth. and what does donald trump do? he is constantly telling lies about every single thing. and i am confident that the voters understand that lies are not going to get him elected, we have to focus on making sure that the agenda of kamala harris and tim walz are put forward so that every voter knows that we are going to move this country forward under their leadership and not backwards. and that is essential at this point in time in our country. the economy is moving forward.
10:50 am
the fact that kamala harris and tim walz have an opportunity agenda, an opportunity economic agenda to help make life better for everyone, and not just to survive, but to thrive. that is what we have to look at. we know who donald trump is. just look at him and what he is doing. is this presidential? this is not what the country needs in terms of the leader of the free world and in terms of a person who is going to ensure our national security and peace and security in the world. come on. that's focus on getting people to the polls and winning this election and defeating donald trump. >> i hope he doesn't get any grease on his crisp white shirt there. barbara lee, awfully good to see you as always. we will see you again. and next, everyone, we are going to revisit a moment from yesterday show as steve crunched some numbers and painted a potential swing state scenario because my eye seriously to start twitching.

>> new insight now to a voters one with 16 days to go until the election. a new poll by nbc shows donald trump is locked extremely closely with harris, with both candidates receiving support from 48% of voters. let's take a listen together to what nbc's steve had to talk about how close margins on the polling averages are, making the selection so hard to predict. >> in michigan, what you see here, the average lead for trump is 1/10 of one point. all right? the average lead for trump in nevada which you see and read right here is 1/10 of one point. and just take a look here. from 283, 255, if it flipped over to 110 with one point for harris, now suddenly harris is hitting 270. >> let's bring in the director of the university of virginia's center for politics and editor
10:53 am
in chief crystal ball. larry, welcome my friend. what is your response to this scenario? that steve just painted for us? >> the pole voters mean absolutely nothing, alex, and it's time we put them in the background. the polls can tell you one of three things, that candidate x is ahead, substantially -- that candidate y is added substantially, or that is too close to call and it is a tossup. guess which category this election is in. three. so forget about them. at this point, 15, 16 days left until the election, they can only change so much. a point or two in this direction or that one. we've all forgotten the basic lessons of polling, which is when the result is within the stated margin of error in the real margin of error might actually be better than the data margin, and you just put them to the side. so what is trump talking about polling to the extent we can,
10:54 am
except only after the segment is over. >> all right. give me a sense of what your crystal ball is saying about this presidential race in terms of why this race is so close. >> it's so close because you very confidentially feelings in the electorate. on the one hand, you have -- on the republican nominee, a tried and true president. he served one term. some people seem to remember that he did well. at least that's what they think. that's what they remember. and he represents -- and i find this particularly strange. he represents change to them. how is it change when you are going back eight years? but they see him as change from the current president, joe biden, and the current administration, biden/harris. the other candidate, kamala harris, it's a matter of her having been handed the mantle in august. she has only been a candidate
10:55 am
for a couple of month. people have gotten used over the years to learning about candidates in small increments over six months, a year, year and a half. and they don't know as much about her as they like to know. they are learning more day by day, but they still don't have enough. so it's a matter now measuring the two candidates, the voters need to measure the two candidates. and yes, we all know what the standard issues are in this campaign, but another one has been added by donald trump, which may dominate the remaining 16 days, which is, how sane is he? how sane is he? is he really unhinged? he certainly does appear that way and many of his presentations. he's always done weird things, but in the past couple of weeks, he has not only gone around the bend, he's gone off the tracks. and so there's a new issue, and it is bubbling up, and it might
10:56 am
actually have an effect. >> last question relative to the trump campaign, which has been gaining some ground in this blue states and support from non-college-educated men seems to be the big push there. who seems to have the clearest path to 270 at this point, larry? >> i don't think either one of them has a clear path to 270. as he said for months, and i need i know steve kornacki said it repeatedly, the most important states are the three blue wall states, and they are. and if harris can sweep them, if she can sweep them, she very probably will win, because she's going to get that one electoral vote in nebraska. i was there recently. it is clearly in her column. as far as trump is concerned, he really only needs one of the blue wall states as long as he can win north carolina, georgia , arizona. i think nevada may be leaning
