all part of a long troll against kamala harris. falsely claiming without any evidence that she ever really worked at the fast food chain. he did the publicity stunt before holding a town hall in lancaster, pennsylvania. meanwhile harris spent the day and another battleground state, georgia. where she visited churches and sat down for an exclusive 1 on 1 interview with my colleague, reverend al sharpton. among the topics was the standing with blackmailed voters and well it shows her winning the majority no doubt about it she is still well behind the numbers the democratic party sought in 2016 and 2020. close to support with this group of voters has become a point of concern for some democrats and a message challenging for her surrogates including former president obama who drew backlash for calling out black men. here is how the vice president

addressed the issue during her interview. >> they talk about black men that are pulling away from your campaign. though i have not seen any real evidence of that. do you think some of the resistance of some men black and white is misogynist, and are you proud to see that most americans being pulled have no problem supporting a woman at all? >> i think that you are absolutely right that there is this narrative about what kind of support we are receiving from black men that it is not panning out in reality in terms of when i go to last night in atlanta and have 10,000 people i think at a rally. i will also say this. i am very clear i must earn the vote of everyone regardless of their race or gender. what can be frustrating sometimes is to have

journalists ask me this question as though one should assume that i would just be able to take for granted the vote of black men. i think that is actually an uninformed perspective because why would they be different than any other demographic of voter? they expect that you earn their vote. that is why i am talking and presenting my policies in a way that are of course for all americans, but i will also speak about the specific impact that i can see it having on different demographics of voters. >> that also takes us to another controversial issue. continue to embrace president biden's policies regarding the war in gaza despite some rhetorical differences in terms of how they have talked about the war. here is how harris responded to a question about the growing conflict and how she sees negotiations for a cease-fire deal moving forward after israel's killing of hamas's leader.

>> how would you move toward a cease-fire? what do you think the united states should be doing? >> first of all, it is going to be hard. it is going to be difficult, but we have to get this war over with. we have to get hostages out. we need the war to end. we are sending the secretary of state out next week to go meet with the parties, and the death of yahya sinwar i believe has removed an obstacle to that end. we have to work at it through diplomatic means, and that is what we intend to do. >> i know you made strong statements about people being killed on both sides. you stood strongly on that. i think that is the concern in all communities. >> the number of innocent palestinians that have been killed in gaza is really unconscionable. we have to be honest about that.

at the same time i will always stand in terms of israel's right to defend itself, and we need this war to end. >> joining me now to reflect on this interview and where things stand in the presidential race. great to have both of you with us. jennifer, i will start with you. your big takeaways? how she is presenting herself and also about what you thought her concern among losing support from back man and dispelling that false narrative. >> i think what i am struck by when i see her whether it is al sharpton or howard stern is that she has completely grown into the role of presidential nominee. her confidence and astuteness

and willing to back up statements with specific examples has really had an upward trajectory from the beginning. remembering this is a very short campaign by normal standards. i think in terms of the narrative about black men this rests solely on polling, which is suspect. let's face it. when voters are within the margin of error on many things and when the polls have been wrong in the past and when you had for example a howard university poll showing she does much better with black men you have to wonder why they are pursuing this line of questioning at all. the real problem is white men. why aren't they voting for her

or against the guy who has lost his marbles in the last weeks of a campaign? i find this entire narrative vaguely racist and really inappropriate. >> i also thought the way she answered the question about that. she has to earn every vote. was a very smart and powerful answer. i could not imagine donald trump saying that. is telling everyone if you do not vote for me you have to get your head checked. here is the contrast of a candidate out there saying i need to earn everyone's vote. no vote will be taken for granted. your thoughts on this interview? what did you make to her part of the policy and substance of the conversation as well as some of the contrasts out there right now? >> i think she should do five of these interviews per day from now until the election. have her talking like a normal person. when she was talking about expanding medicare to cover all healthcare she talked about her own plate helping her mom when her mom had cancer. she talked about middle-class and working-class and other families who grew up raising their young kids in dealing with aging parents pick something may be fighting all

sorts of ailments. she talked about it as if she understood and knew this. what is donald trump talking about these days? the size of arnold palmer's genitalia. using the military to go against radix and dissidents. calling january 6th a day of love. referring to her as this. she comes across as a normal person that lives within reality for whatever you think about her policies she understands of the world around her. donald trump is in his own trump bazaar reality in which things like honor palmer and the size of his whatever is important to talk about. i think she just needs to keep reiterating that she is normal. she has ideas that will affect people directly. not just there is a proposal and this is how it affects you,

and she did that well today. i think she did that reasonably well and should just continue to do that and not worry about these other narratives. by now he has the issue with black men. it is all about the get out and vote efforts be whatever the polls say doesn't matter. the issue is whether her campaign is able to reach her voters in all demographic categories including the white guys who are voting for her and making sure they get out and vote. >> let's look at another moment from earlier today when trump was working at the drive- through at mcdonald's in pennsylvania. i want to listen to how he spoke to a customer. watch.>> hello. how are you? what a beautiful woman. look at the beautiful child. it is the perfect looking person. >> what do you make of that? he is trying to be foxy with the people in sees this woman and speaks to her in that way.

>> you assume something that is not true, and that is he was working. he was not. this was entirely staged. it was a fake customer. he is so inept at pretending to be a real person that he really literally cannot operate the frying machine as a normal worker because he would be incapable of doing so. first of all, he looked ridiculous. i have already seen the ronald mcdonald's, and what is this crew that he knows nothing of note a plight of ordinary workers? he has been unopposed for as long as i have been following him against any increase in the minimum wage. if he really cared about workers and related to them i think he would have a different policy. this just shows what an ultimate fraud he is and that his entire career was made as a reality show heavily edited tv star. >> what does it say that trump is focusing his energy right now with these types of political stunts that make him

look silly. everything he has ever stood for. antiunion and renting the minimum wage. stiffing people on payments. we know the track record of how he has treated employees and contractors in the city, and here he is trying to pander to the people. >> it cannot be overemphasized that the central element of donald trump's life is the reality tv show. he was feeling the business. they built him up to be a celebrity billionaire. one of the guys who worked on the show came out and apologized saying he is not who they pretended he was, and it is all this game of pretend. he wants you to think he is a

his candidate. i will say something very briefly about those ads. that and invoking doug's religion is anti-semitism plain and simple. not because he is pro israel. many non-jewish people are pro- israel, but in order to plant an anti-semitic seed. that is reprehensible. >> it is and i'm glad you brought that up. you have covered republicans engaging in anti-semitic tropes for years falsely claiming jewish billionaires are trying to buy our election. here you have elon musk doing this disgusting ad implying that somehow doug emhoff because he is jewish will be pulling the strings more or less and that at kamala harris saying that when he talks kamala harris listens. this is as blatantly anti- semitic as you could possibly be. this is the guy who is tipping

the scales for donald trump.>> it is no surprise. elon musk has retreated anti-semitic tweets on his own platform, and he is not the only one doing this. i brought up a story about a week ago about the jewish republican coalition that put out mailers in michigan. another swing state. that said kamala harris doesn't care about anti-semitism. she is married to a jewish person in her administration initiated a project to combat anti-semitism. they were using it for a different reason, so playing with these anti-semitic and anti-jewish tropes. elon musk has tweeted out racist stuff. conspiracy theories.

again and again. he just doesn't stop. he is doing it several times a day with his campaign ads while he is paying people. this is really i think the epitome of american oligarchy. the richest man using his media platform. his own money. and these dirty smear campaigns to get more power. he wants trump in the white house because he thinks that if trump is in the white house elon musk will have more power. it is obscene at this point. >> this idea of the guy who owns one of the largest of the larger social media platform in the world spreading disinformation. going after dominions. spreading lies about voting machines. all over again. was asleep the last few years during the whole fox dominion lawsuit that cost the network $800 million for the lies they spread? i do not think x can afford that kind of litigation. >> he does not here because he

is the richest guy in the world. what is that if you have billions? he literally doesn't care. you know what this reminds me of? an authoritarian fascist media tycoon in italy who seized power and set about really damaging italian democracy and turned the country into really a shamble of a police state. that is what these people do. bases the media and spread lies. they tried to get voters they won't believe them to believe at least nothing so that they are paralyzed, and that is what elon musk is doing. that is what donald trump is doing. i certainly hope that voters have figured out by this point that this is a dangerous pattern and giving elon musk any authority america will soon not be like detroit, but like

x, which is a mess. >> we spoke about his erratic behavior, but the scary thing is there are people that will follow him. they certainly worship the sky and think he is a cool tech genius type of guy worth listening to. what is the danger of elon musk using his influence in platform and money to engage in these disinformation tactics? especially in an election donald trump refused to do peacefully. >> elon musk and all of these guys used to complain that the government was getting involved and putting his finger on the scale. perverting the national discourse. weighing the debate in their own direction. he has done more than anyone else with a social media platform to poison the debate and tilted in the direction that he wants. when he is tweeting about 20 times a day disinformation about trump and his algorithm is making sure that you see that more than you see anything else that is hypocrisy.
