growing concerns tonight about a backsliding of democracy in georgia. a local judge delivered a sweeping ruling rejecting new rules describing them as illegal, unconstitutional, and avoid. that was passed by the gop majority on the george election board including a requirement to count ballots by hand which experts have already warned would causes severe delays. no national and state republicans are appealing this judges ruling accusing the judge of the very worst of judicial activism. all of this is happening in the same week we saw a record- breaking early voting numbers in that state took over 1 million male in early in person votes were cast last week in georgia. george of course is a consequential state that could very well decide the outcome of

the entire election. you will remember this is the very seems they were donald trump called the secretary of state to find him some 11,000 votes in 2020. well the immediate conversation after we saw those record- breaking numbers out of georgia was that this was a sure win for the democrats. some are saying it is still too early to tell what these numbers would mean for either candidate. according to my next guest it is not clear whether early voting figures indicate a seismic electoral trend. he joins me now. no one knows georgia better. great to see you again to tell me what insights you have been able to take away from this record early voting turnout. this is an increasingly tight race. the latest poll under to has trump leading by only six percentage points. >> there will be more polls coming up. must show within a margin of

error. what we know is there has been record turnout. even today another record for sunday voting smashing all previous records. there was a record yesterday for saturday voting. we know turnout is going to be high, but we do not know who is turning out. we know the electorate is so far tending to be older and whiter. tends to be more female. you can read the tea leaves for both of those helping either of the candidates. what we know in george's for the first time in the presidential campaign republicans are pushing their voters to vote early. we could be seeing a transfer away from election day voting towards early voting because the donald trump campaign even after years they are now pushing voters to make a plan to vote, which is something the democrats have been doing for a better part of the decade in georgia. >> do we know why there was this shift for republicans to encourage this early voting after such a long time? >> the lived across the aisle

and saw how successful democrats were. they went bank millions of votes. droves of votes from early voting. republicans were hardly relying on it. it has been cast from the republican party chairman basically saying we are tired of waiting until the fourth quarter to play and having to come back from a big deficit. right now the emphasis for republicans is on early voting as well. that can mean we will have a diminished turnout. that is a day they tend to dominate, so we could see a shift, but it is still a little early to tell. >> was talk about the legal battles because it is hard to imagine that early voting is getting underway and yet in theory the rules about the election are not settled in georgia. what you make of how republicans now want to override the judge's ruling? how consequential could this be as we are seeing the votes get

underway? >> it could be a game changer if this is accepted. what the judge ruled was basically all of these last minute voting changes that were pushed forward controlled by a right-wing three vote majority. this judge ruled that they should be put on hold. it is just too close to the election. the unique thing is that democrats and voting rights advocates are against it and it is really across party lines, and they actually filed these successful lawsuits against several of these rule changes on the grounds they overstep the constitutional authority by making these changes that should be up to the legislature. seeing this bipartisan pushback. the >> i go back to the point that the election has started whether we like to admit it or not. it is inconceivable that the rules are still not yet settled

definitively. let me switch one more level if you will. you are in georgia this morning while vice president kamala harris was giving her remarks as a part of her campaign drive. did you have a chance to talk to members of the congregation? what are you hearing from folks on the ground on the announcement? >> the vice president was in atlanta as well for a rally with usher, so there is a lot of enthusiasm that i interviewed dozens of voters who have basically asked the same question, which is how are you feeling about georgia? and it ran the gamut from optimistic too nervous to anxiety. you name it because georgia is really hanging on that razor thin margin. most are within the margin of error. a >> what are you going to be looking for in the coming days?
4:38 pm
the first time they will be campaigning together. i think that in and of itself speaks volumes they are doing it in georgia. michelle obama also headlining an event in atlanta. you are getting a lot of star power, but i'm in the more the sense of how critical the state of georgia is proving to be yet again in this election cycle. >> and donald trump is coming on wednesday as well. they are just hammering home the message to the base for both candidates. democrats really trying to appeal to the swing voters to the middle of the road voters. helping to give him that margin that he narrowly won georgia by because they need to capture enough voters and rebuild that coalition . >> i am sure we will be talking to you a lot. get some rest, my friend. next . the warnings from the biden administration, and i will speak with state representative about her fight for transgender medical care in the deep red state of montana. stick around.

since the yahya sinwar is killing the leader the biden administration shifted his tone noticeably. watch. >> this creates an opening that i believe we must take full advantage of it to dedicate ourselves to ending this war and bringing the hostages home. >> obviously we want to seize the opportunity created by the death of yahya sinwar, and that means an opportunity to end the war and an opportunity to get to the day after. a >> if you think the new hopeful tone means something it is worth remembering previous language this administration

these actions it seems like the u.s. was not just preparing for a longer and wider war. one could see why some believe that the u.s. actually supports a widened israeli war. especially feels that way when you factor in the approval of multibillion-dollar weapons deals that we keep israel well armed for decades to come. in the past few weeks and throughout the year and has given benjamin netanyahu everything he needs to keep the war going both on defense and offense no matter what the u.s. has been warning against publicly. the washington post wrote despite numerous disagreements but in president biden and israeli prime minister over the course of the year long war the president's decision to deliver that system. before the attack represents another example of his willingness to trust him and give him the benefit of the doubt. a former army officer added when this battery is in place and israel enjoys the protection of american air defenders what incentives does benjamin netanyahu have to keep his word and i strike the sensitive targets he promised to avoid? these are all president biden's actions. vice president kamala harris might be the president that actually inherits this war. of

willingness to break from u.s. foreign policy toward israel as a presidential candidate. thinking yahya sinwar is death rings is in a closer to ending this war is for now purely wishful thinking on the administration's part. we are being told key policies like the steady flow of weapons to israel won't change under harris. here is another indicator that israel is not winding down its war. in the four days since the yahya sinwar is killing over 100 palestinians have been killed in israeli attacks according to the gaza health ministry. whether in hospitals, shelters, or simply walking down the street. that is the grim reality no matter how anyone turns it. s i allowing us to tailor your portfolio. is especially since there has been talk about how israel could be preparing to attack iran. is this pretty significant? >> it is. it shows that the u.s. is trying to track what israel is doing in terms of preparing for a strike on iran that many people expect. the question is how large it will be and how aggressive he will be. it is a theme you're talking about earlier. u.s. calls for restraint from biden and harris and other officials seemingly not to have much impact on benjamin netanyahu's military action. >> let me ask you about the killing of yahya sinwar for a moment because in president biden put out his statement he noted that he has provided israel with intelligence assistance to track 21 members a sense october 7. what is your reporting in this admission if you will tell us about how involved the u.s. is with israel's operations in gaza and generally across the board? >> i think there is no question the u.s. is helping and was helping israel track yahya sinwar. there is no clear evidence that
4:53 pm
the israeli account of them finding yahya sinwar almost by accident seems to be true. i think there is no question the u.s. has been tracking american hostages in gaza. this is interesting because the u.s. is spying on the israeli air force. essentially satellite photos of israel moving plans around and do some missiles. u.s. with these leaked documents show they are watching that and trying to figure out how large a u.s. attack or an israeli attack might be your allies espy on each other, but it shows the political sensitivity of all of this because of the election. biden is trying to thread the needle where he says i want to prevent the loss of more palestinian lives, but i am still a close ally of israel. i think again that just has a ton to do with the november 5 election and him and vice president kamala harris trying to not leave themselves open to being attacked or not supporting israel enough donald
