anywhere, ayman picks up the coverage now. good evening, everyone, tonight on ayman, donald trump set to take the stage at madison square garden any minute now, following speakers who opened is rally with crude and extreme and divisive language. plus, jd vance as unmerged as trump's explainer in chief, because let's face it, he really needs one point and with just nine days left, don't forget a major deciding factor for voters, a woman's right to choose. all of that and more. i am ayman mohyeldin, let's do it point . >> [ music ] nine days out from the election, donald trump's rally is live at madison square garden, new york city. the high profile venue in his hometown that he has sought for years. all afternoon, we have seen a flurry of trump allies on stage, spewing the hate and the division that has sadly become mainstream in maga politics.

>> it means that we believe in the rule of law, and i say this as the kid of legal immigrants to this country. that means your first act of entering this country cannot break the law, and that is why if we have had the largest influx of illegals into this country in american history, we will have the largest mass deportation in american history. that is not racist or xenophobic, that is what it means to stand for the rule of law in the united states of america. >> a vote for kamala harris is a vote for open borders, where known violent criminals and islamist terrorists are streaming across our borders, placing us at risk. a vote for donald trump is a vote for secure borders and safe communities and a confidence that he will seek out those who seek to do us harm and get them out. >> and at the same time, led 20

million homeless people, illegal immigrants, into a country that has a housing shortage. come on, man. it don't make sense. >> right now, you're looking at live pictures of elon musk speaking at that rally here at madison square garden. you're going to keep an eye on that, we will bring it to you live once former president trump takes the stage and we will explain why in just a minute. but of course, when you look at what is happening right now there in madison square garden, it harkens back to a different moment in a different time in america, back to 1939. that very same venue. it also hosted thousands of people at a nazis valley, and that rally was in support of hitler and fascism. hard to imagine that in america, but it did happen. and now in 2024, many decades later, trump and his acolytes speaking at that very same venue, as i just said, but as all of this lays out, a different vision for america.

vice president, harris out on the stump, too. she spent most of her day in the battleground state of pennsylvania, making stops at a barbershop, a local bookstore, puerto rican restaurant, and a black church, asking voters to take a step back and think about what a second trump presidency could actually mean for this country. >> look, just imagine the oval office on january 20th. it is going to be one of two people. it is going to be either donald trump or me. if it is donald trump, you can see what that day is going to be point it will be him sitting at that desk, stewing over his enemies list. he is full of grievance, he is full of dark language that is about retribution and revenge. >> she went on to a rally in philadelphia, telling attendees this: >> there is too much on the line and we must not wake up the day after the election and have any regrets about what we could have done in these next nine days.

so, let's spend these next nine days knowing we did everything we could. >> to hit home her message of the danger donald trump poses to america, the vice president will deliver the closing message to the country this coming tuesday night at the very sight where donald trump called on his mob to fight on january 6th at the park outside the white house. it is a shocking side by side moment that we find ourselves in tonight as trump descends on a city and a state that he cannot win, at a site once used to rally sympathy for the nazi cause. let's bring an nbc news correspondent vaughn hillyard who is alive for us at trump's rally in madison square garden. vaughn, walk us through some of the themes that have been addressed tonight at this rally, some of the speakers there, and some of the language that has been used. >> elon musk is speaking right now. >> all right, we are having some audio technical issues there with vaughn. we are going to try to address audio in just a moment and go back to him through the course of this evening. as we mentioned, we are waiting for the former president to speak at what has been a very ugly and divisive rally throughout the course of this afternoon here in new york city. i do want to bring you into the conversation right now as we continue our coverage. ameshia cross, democratic strategist, a former obama campaign adviser, and sirius xm host also with us, wilson, cofounder of the lincoln project and author of the book: running against the devil: a plot to save america from trump, and democrats from themselves. a very appropriately named book, rick. and i will start with that. we are seeing right now hours of speakers upon speakers using some very dangerous, some very ugly and divisive language. i have a running list of some of the things that have been said about immigrants, about black americans, about lgbtq

americans, the language of mass deportations, attacks -- personal attacks on the vice president, threats, lies about this country, a very, very dark chapter that we are seeing unfold right now at madison square garden. >> you know, this afternoon, it started very quickly with a so- called comedian, calling puerto rico a floating island of garbage in the ocean. making the most repulsive racial jokes about latinos in this country, another speaker -- saying that kamala harris had him handlers. these people started low and kept digging. i think it is incumbent upon all of us to recognize what this is, the echoes of the nazi aren't just echoes anymore, it is not just history repeating itself, this is a tribute band. this is suffused with hatred of americans who are not donald trump.

suffused with hatred of americans who are not exactly along the lines of people he wants to see around him. and i find it remarkable. i'm not outraged by it, i'm not surprised by it. this is what trump and trumpism is. this is the core of their being, their fowl, they are low, they are racist, it's present everywhere. stephen miller up there tonight speaking as if people who come from other countries are animals who must be purged. this is a low for american politics, but i'm hopeful that as america watches this, they are as repulsed as most right- thinking people would be point >> and you bring us to a very important point about why we are carrying a part of this speech when trump takes the stage but it is not in any way, shape, or form to platform this hate or this ugliness, it is to show americans what is at stake. i think it is important to remind our viewers, i think for those who are somehow at siloed into their own information bubble that may not necessarily

believe this, it may not take trump literally, may not hear the kind of language that is being spewed by the person who wants to be the commander-in- chief of this country, a man whose former generals have openly now called a fascist, certainly a fascist at his core. that is the person that america needs to see. ameisha, your thoughts on what we have heard and seen it play out this afternoon? >> i remember just a few weeks ago when the republicans were pushing back so hard, saying basically it was time to turn the page, it was time to set a different temperature, a different mood, things were a little bit too angry. this is the same republican party and the same leader of that party that have been hateful, that have been racist, that had been misogynistic, that have been xenophobic this entire time. and i think today's rally in madison square garden in a city that is one of the most diverse cities in america, in a city that was known to be not only one of the beacons of light for immigrants and the cultural representation that america is, he decides to go there,

understanding the history but i think that people try to play donald trump as an idiot, as someone who is not intellectually capable. he knows the history very well of nazi islam, he knows that he is using nazi language, he knows that america first was a mantra that was chanted at the nazi valley in madison square garden decades ago. he knows exactly what he's doing out there. the words that i heard earlier around latinos, and medical question a lot of things, not only about the trump administration, those who work for him, but also donald trump, the republican party, and latinos who still support him. i am also really frustrated when i continued your folks say that it is about the economy. that man got up there and is not talking about the economy. he is talking about an america that does not have diversity, an american where people of color are treated as vermin, he sees them as vermin, how sickening it is to see people of color in this country. that is not who we are.

and if you choose to support that man, far be it for me to try to protect the nation that is running into an authoritarian side, with the man who told us over and over again who he is. he wants to be a dictator, he is a known racist, there are no if's, and's, or butts about that. >> and rick, this week has been extremely clear to people who have served previously in the trump administration, and some may question why it has taken so long to get to this moment. i think if there was any doubt on some of the language that has been used to describe donald trump, that today is cast aside by the language that these people chose to use, these speakers that were hand selected by the trump campaign to address america today in new york city. >> look, there is an amazing and the media push back when you say to them you are being fascist, you are acting like a nazi, they have a hyperbolic response to it, almost instantaneously. but you know what? if the jackboot fits, wear it.

that is what they are doing, that is the language they are using, the behavior they are engaged in, all of it comes down to a party that is defined now primarily by racial and ethnic animus. and the idea that you're going to hear donald trump in just a few minutes go out and say things to the equivalent of poison in the blood of our country and the caravans are coming and the gangs are eating the dogs and cats. those things seem, on the one hand, separated, they seem absurd individual points, but the fact of the matter is it is a coherent, ugly, horrifying set of beliefs that they have now, and they want to impose those beliefs on a country that is not built for that. that is built to be propositional, that is built to be pluralistic, that is built to be a republic based on representative democracy. all of those things, they load, they despise those things, and they're telling you just how much they hate them. >> and there is something, ameisha, about the fact that this is taking place in new york city. you know, perhaps the most

diverse, most tolerant city in america. they have tried to portray donald trump as a victim in this city, talking about how he built this city, how he made this city, how he changed this city's skyline, portray those officials in the city who have tried to uphold the rule of law and make sure that no one is above the rule of law as his attackers and people that are out to tear him down. >> absolutely. and the narrative that donald trump has been selling about his relationship to new york, he is the god of the city, the person who created it, new york wouldn't exist without donald trump with we all know that those things are false. we also know that the court system that indicted him, the one that found him guilty on 34 felony charges was in new york. what we also know about donald trump is this is the same guy who said the south could have kept a little slavery. i don't know how much a little slavery is or how that would have worked out, but i do know as a black person, i wouldn't want to have been bought and

sold today. but if it was up to donald trump, my body would have been up for that. what he tells us, what michelle five tells us, and what his acolytes and said up there on that stage, he is racist to the poor. there is no black or brown group that he doesn't find to attack. when i heard some of the speakers today talk about how basically, palestinian children deserve to die, because we should always be on the side of israel no matter what, even though these innocent people are dying by the hundreds, and because somehow that is against america, we need to stand up. this is an economic message, donald trump is a racist and he wants america to go down that path, too. >> all right, let's take a listen to some of these remarks from donald trump, and then we will pick up the conversation on the other side. x thank you, everybody, thank you. >> [ cheers and applause ] >> thank you very much, everybody. thank you very much to a very popular former first lady, hopefully first lady again. >> [ cheers and applause ]

cost, the lowest regulatory burdens, and free access to the best and biggest market on the planet. remember this, if we keep going like this, we will have the biggest and the best. we won't have a market, we won't have a country. but only for those who make their product here in the usa and hire american workers for the job, and if these companies don't make their products here, then they will pay a very stiff terraced when they send their products into the united states for the privilege of competing with our workers and our now protected companies, we are going to protect our companies, they are not leaving anymore, they're not leaving anymore. we are also going to pass the trump reciprocal trade act, meaning if china or any other country charges us 100 or 200% tax or a tariff, we will then charge them a 100 or 200% tax

that any leader in american history has ever inflicted upon our people. she has violated her oath, eradicated our sovereign border, and unleashed an army of migrant gangs who are waging a campaign of violence and terror against our citizens. there has never been anything like it anywhere in the world for any country. kamala has imported criminal migrants from prisons and jails, insane asylums and mental institutions from all around the world, from venezuela to the congo, a lot of people are coming from the congo prisons. they are coming from all over the world. over the last month, 181 countries violated our laws. and she has resettled them into your communities to prey upon innocent american citizens.

flew in. we just found out about it a year and a half ago, we said what is going on question there are a lot of planes going over, what are they? they would fly them into the middle of our country, our beautiful, beautiful country, and you know what happened? you take a look at springfield, ohio, think of this. think of this. where 30,000 illegal migrants were put into a town of 50,000 people. no place can withstand that. or take a look at aurora in colorado. colorado is going to vote for us, you know why? typically, they go a little bit the other way of course, with their voting system, i'm not so sure about that, but you know why? because they tried to throw the lead candidate of both parties, meaning me, i was leading both parties off the ballot, and the people of colorado, including democrats, are very angry about it. they are a threat to democracy.

the problem is he has got his opponent, sherry brown, he says he is my best friend, you never vote for me, he is not my best friend. ohio has been very friendly to trunk, we win it all the time by a landslide, but the opponent, i have got four of them, i think we have four of them, right? they are taking ads. all the sudden, they love trunk, we agree with trump on terrace, we agree with trump on the border, we love trunk, and then democrats, their friends calling up, they switch to the republican party? but it happened with bernie, i was in ohio to try to get him over the initial primary hump. and it was 45 mile an hour winds, and these suckers were blowing like -- you ever tried reading of teleprompter where it is moving about two feet and each -- but i didn't have to worry about that, because even worse, they ended up blowing off the stage, a lot of them,

so i am now in the first sentence and i have got 28,000 people and millions of people watching on television. i have got no teleprompter. and did i do a good job, mr. speaker? anyone? thank you, max. anyone? and so, you are up there all alone, we don't go 32, 32, oh my gosh. kamala harris is a train wreck who has destroyed everything in her path to make her president, it would be a gamble with the lives of millions and millions of people. she would get us into world war iii, we are very close to world war iii. if you don't have a smart president or if you don't have a president that gets it, if you don't have a president that is respected by the other side, and they did respect us four years ago, they really respected us, iran was broken, they had no money. russia wouldn't have played with us at all. russia would have never gotten into ukraine.
