patriarchy and women see that and want to burn it down. >> as shannon watt says, women who are voting in huge numbers want to burn down the patriarchy. as trump makes his patronizing closing message that he will somehow protect women whether they like it or not. also tonight, former attorney general eric holder joins me with election legal fights already in full swing. plus, what a trump victory would mean for the american justice system. and we begin tonight with just five days left until we find out what kind of country we will be. as of today, over 61 million americans have voted, and 54% of them are women. five days out, the choice is crystal clear. it's an america for all, fueled by a coalition of many fighting yet again for equal rights.
4:02 pm
>> i'm a little frustrated that some of us are choosing to ignore donald trump's gross incompetence while asking kamala to dazzle us at every turn. let me warn you, your rage does not exist in a vacuum. if we don't get this election right, your wife, your daughter, your mother, we as women will become collateral damage to your rage. are you as men prepared to look into the eyes of the women and children you love and tell them that you supported this assault on our safety? >> or an america for some. fueled by a coalition of the few, pushing for separate but equal. the former first lady's message is a powerful one and continues to course through the veins of this country since the supreme court has stripped half of america of our constitutional rights. this america has been about dignity for all, but that

clearly is too much for the maga misogyny minion whose have been repulsed by even the thought of women, and by this, i mean the group long venerated and placed on a pedestal for the clear purpose of silencing their voices, i do mean white women. finally finding their voice and asserting their independence and their power, and joining women of color in rejecting the politics of the increasingly extreme republican party. on that note, know what is also triggering the maga man cave? a progressive evangelical group urging the partners of male trump supporters to vote for kamala harris even if it has to be done in secret. >> in the one place in america where women still have a right to choose. you can vote any way you want. and no one will ever know.
4:04 pm
>> did you make the right choice? >> sure did, honey. >> remember, what happens in the booth stays in the booth. >> let me just tell you, the maga right hates this idea. they are literally disgusted and freaking out about it. one conservative pastor's very telling tweet, which has gone viral, sums it up. he writes, in a christian marriage, a wife should vote according to her husband's direction. he is the head and they are one. two trump maga men, put that in square quotes, fox's jesse waters and charlie kirk of turning point, were equally triggered by the idea of married women thinking for themselves. >> i find that entire advertising campaign so repulsive. she's coming in with her sweet husband, who probably works his tail off to make sure she can go, you know, and have a nice life and provide for the family, and she lies to him saying i'm going to vote for trump and then
4:05 pm
she votes for kamala harris as her little secret. >> if i found out emma was going to the voting booth and pulling the lever for harris, that's the same as having an affair. it violates the sanctity of our marriage. >> this idea that women need to be told what to do, how to think, how to look, and how to behave is a key closing argument for the most recognizable misogynist and jury convicted sexual abuser, donald trump. >> i'm president, i want to protect the women of our country. they said -- they said, sir, i just think it's inappropriate for you to say. i pay these guys a lot of money. can you believe it? i said, well, i'm going to do it whether the women like it or not. i'm going to protect them. >> whether they like it or not. so to sum it up, according to jd vance, women who don't marry and

have children are worthless and shouldn't have equal rights in this society, and the women who do are nothing more than amplifications of their husbands' republican votes. anything else is unnatural. and donald trump says, and adds, he's going to protect women whether they like it or not. okay. this open disdain for women and their independence is far more disturbing when you think about the fact that the man saying these things, that the head of that ticket, is in clear cognitive decline. this was trump in 2016, and then let's look at trump on tuesday. >> the u.s. has become a dumping ground for everybody else's problems. >> so i just want to tell you this is a campaign that's been long, hard. the man who descended his golden

return to trumpian leadership is dangerous in its own right, but to do so with an impaired leader who cannot govern competently and a fellow authoritarian waiting in the wings is perilous. joining me now is sarah matthews, former deputy press secretary in the trump white house, and david rothkopf, columnist for the daily beast and host of the deep state radio podcast. sarah, i want to start with you first because you have worked for donald trump. do you see the cognitive decline that the las vegas sun sees? >> i think i do. you look at the videos of him in 2016 and compare it to now, and it does appear like he's lost his fastball. no one would evsay donald trump has been the most eloquent speaker, but i do think that if you go back and watch those old videos of him, and compare it to now, it's just so apparently clear to me. and he is rambling more, more
4:09 pm
incoherent. can't stay on message, and so it does appear to me that there's a cognitive decline there, and i think voters need to ask themselves. this was obviously such an issue for biden's candidacy so why doesn't that translate for trump then? biden, i think he was all there in his mind, but his age was showing a little more in his physicality. but with trump, it's mental. and so we really need to ask ourselves if we want to put a man like that back into the oval office. >> indeed. let me play what vice president harris had to say, and shewas commenting. she wasn't commenting on the cognitive decline, but she was commenting on his thoughts about whether women like it or not. >> she will do what he wants, quote, and here's where i'm going to quote, whether the women like it or not. you know, there's a saying that you have to listen to people when they tell you who they are. and this is not the first time he has told us who he is.
4:10 pm
he does not believe women should have the agency and authority to make decisions about their own bodies. >> one of the things that happens, david, as some people age, and it's a fact of aging, is that your inhibitions start to slide, particularly if your cognition starts to slide. donald trump is showing some of that lack of inhibition. even when he was younger and in full faculties. he grabbed e. jean carroll in a public place, whether she liked it or not, and she did not. he has kissed women against their will and without them allowing him to, whether they liked it or not. he has put his hands between women's legs whether they liked it or not. so even when he was in full faculties, he was a predator. and so you have someone like that now saying, because he can't help himself anymore, that i'm going to quote/unquote protect women whether they like it or not. this to me strikes me as a dangerous place for him to be
4:11 pm
going when you throw in the fact that he can't climb into a garbage truck without nearly tripping and falling and he couldn't even grasp that door handle. what are we watching? >> well, you're 100% right because he's on the fast track to feebleness. quite apart from being on the fast track to feebleness, when he had his fastball, he behaved this way. and that's because it's not an issue necessarily of mental capacity. it's an issue of character and it's an issue of idelology. he does not look at women as his equal. and so when he was young and fit, he was abusing women. scores of women have accused him of abusing them. a judge who adjudicated the case that you just made reference to said that he was effectively guilty of rape. he was much more in command of his faculties when as president he stripped away the fundamental right of women to control their

own bodies. so throughout his entire life, his view has been towards women, i will do with them what i want to. because he is of a group that believes that women are subservient to men, are the possessions of men, and don't be misled, they don't want to turn the clock back to the 1950s. they want to turn it back to the 1850s. they want to turn it back to a world where women did not have the vote. remember, what did jd vance say? he said if a woman does not give birth to children, she shouldn't have the right to vote. it's -- it would be shocking except that they have said it over and over and done it over and over again. but i think here, finally in the last five days of this election, we're seeing that this is breaking through. and it's showing up in women's
4:13 pm
early registration, women's early voting. this huge gender gap, 55/45 gender gap out of the 30 million votes that have already been cast. and it's quite possible that women are ultimately going to say, we know what we want and it's not you, donald trump. >> and the fact, sarah, that he's running against a woman, running against a person who is a sex crimes prosecutor, she prosecuted men like donald trump for a living. so she's not afraid of him, and she can confront him in a way that i think most women could naupt, even hillary clinton who was not that kind of a prosecutor specifically. i want to talk about white women, whether 30% of the voting population are going to make a different choice than when he ran the first two times, when they voted majority for him even after the "access hollywood" tape. i found this poll fascinated. they went through and looked at the gender fwap. the gap is the widest between

women who have college degrees and men who do not have college degrees. that is not a sort of a race specific number, but that's the biggest gap. those are the two people at the farthest ends of the spectrum with women with college degrees going much more for harris and men without college degrees going much more for trump. then you have reporting from our nbc's sahil kapur. a woman at obama's pittsburgh rally, either barack or michelle's, told me she and her friends when they go to rural pennsylvania, leave post-it notes in the bathroom saying nobody will know who you voted for. she said women in red areas feel stegimatized if they oppose trump and don't know their vote is private. another anecdote i heard from a democratic volunteer knocks on a door, a man answers and says there are no democrats here. and as this door knocker is standing there looking at the list where a woman lives there presumably his wife, she's a registered democrat. there has been this notion that when women receive the right to

vote, the presumption was they would be an amplification of their husband's vote if they're white women and that has been true up until now. i wonder if you see signs that white women specifically are saying, enough, now that they have lost their right to bodily autonomy, they're now seeing what women of color have long seen about the republican party. >> i do think that this is penetrating through to white women, especially like you mentioned with roe v. wade. i think there are a lot of women out there who are even pro-life who think the restrictions that we're seeing in some of these deep red states are going way too far. and so they want to restore that, because they think that the republican party is getting too extreme. and that's why i think that ad that you played earlier in the program and all those maga men who all being so triggered by it, they're being triggered by it because it's effective. because it is penetrating through to women and they're recognizing, hey, you know what, my vote is private, and what you vote in the voting booth is

between you and your god that you believe in. so they know that a lot of women are going to turn out on election day and maybe cast their vote differently than they're telling their husbands or their coworkers or their neighbors and they're worried about that because i think this election is going to come down to a lot of white women and disaffected republican women who are turning out and saying enough is enough with donald trump and casting their ballot for kamala harris. >> it doesn't help that jd vance is the next person in line for a feeble old man that would be president when he is doing an interview, he did an interview tonight in which he said things like, men who vote for trump have more testosterone if they're conservatives. and saying the normal gays will vote for us. he's not helping, the guy who essentially said women are worthless to be anything other than incubators or nannies, that's the ticket. sarah and david, thank you both very much. coming up, no wonder viktor

concerns about the potential levels of violence that we're seeing. there is a video that is circulating all over the internet from orangeburg, south carolina, where a man came in and started cursing at and shoving election workers there. a guy in a maga hat. we're starting to see sort of, you know, these drop box fire incidents. how concerned are you about this kind of violence? >> yeah, i have a degree of concern about that. we're going to see individuals do these kinds of things. it's the kind of stuff that donald trump i think has enabled through his irresponsible verbiage. but i'm also confident that people in law enforcement, at the federal, state, and local level will be able to handle any of these things. i don't think people should be intimidated. people should be going to the polls casting their ballots. if you're concerned about your safety, i don't think you should necessarily be, take advantage of early voting or voting by mail. relatively limited amount of time at this point but you can still do that.

>> let me play a sound bite for you. this is donald trump saying something that has caught a lot of folks' attention. here he is. >> and i think with our little secret, we're going to do really well, right? our little secret is having a big impact. he and i have a secret. we'll tell you what it is when the voice is over. >> elie mystal says, quote, i think the plan is to steal the electoral college by giving states trump loses to refuse to certify the results of their election. that's because the 12th amendment provides the president is the person who wis the majority of the whole number of electors appointed. that whole number is supposed to be 538, but one potential reading of the amendment is trump doesn't have to win 270 electoral college votes but a majority of however many show up. his goal is to decrease the number of electors appointed until he wins. >> that's a stretch. i understand what he's saying and i don't know exactly what
4:25 pm
this deal is supposed to be like. but we have precedent that indicates you have to have a majority of the electors who were selected and that means you have to have 270. i also think that that possibility that this deal they're going to have would be sanctioned by the courts, even this supreme court, i think that is just a bridge too far. so i think, look, we're certainly going to hear all kinds of legal challenges after kamala harris wins the vote. we're going to hear non-legal challenges and contentions made by donald trump. donald trump only has two things. he either wins an election or the election was rigged. so we can expect to hear that from him. but i actually think our legal system is capable of handling the kind of specious arguments that they're likely to make. >> i think you have more faith in the system than i do. i think anybody who watches the show knows i don't trust john roberts as far as i can throw him across the room. i think he's exactly like the rest of them, and so my question
4:26 pm
to you is, why should we not believe that trump can get a couple of his election deniers and fake electors in pennsylvania or georgia to refuse to certify, take that all the way to court as to whether they can refuse to society, stop a state from being certified, and get that case right to john roberts where he can do what he wants to do. he wants trump to be president. why should we not believe that trump has a plan that could be enacted wherein he loses the election but he gets john roberts to make him president the way the supreme court majority made george w. bush president? >> i'm going to tell you, of all the things i'm concerned about, i'm worried about voter suppression. i'm worried about a range of things but the certification process doesn't concern me an awful lot. assuming there is a good count, that's another thing. we want to make sure all votes get counted and the question becomes, we have a result and now we have to certify that
4:27 pm
result. you come up with reasons why you shouldn't. illegal folks have voted, whatever the rationale is, that's the thing that gives me the least amount of concern. there, we're going to be deciding cases before judges at the state level, at the federal level, potentially at the supreme court level if the supreme court decides to take a case like that. so i think that when it comes to certification, certification, i think we're going to be just fine. >> okay. look, you're probably making a lot of people sleep better tonight. let's talk about the sort of eventuality of a potential trump in office. he's made numerous threats, threatened -- made over 100 threats to prosecutor or punish people he sees as his enemy, from general mark milley to liz cheney to vp harris herself. this is stuff that we should take seriously, no? >> yes. now, if i made your feel okay, and like you wanted to go to sleep tonight and rest peacefully, that's fine. do not go to bed tonight and
4:28 pm
rest peacefully when you think about what donald trump might do with a weaponized united states department of justice. they learned, they learned from the first term, and it won't be just who is the attorney general, it will be who is the deputy attorney general, who is the head of the criminal division, who are the various u.s. attorneys. they'll give u.s. attorneys hiring authority so they'll have adistant u.s. attorneys who will do the bidding of donald trump. and we will see critics of donald trump investigated, if not prosecuted. journalists investigated, if not prosecuted. companies who take policy positions inconsistent with the desires of donald trump, again, investigated if not prosecuted. i make that distinction between investigated if not prosecuted because the reality is you can ruin somebody's life. you don't have to indict them to ruin their life. you just have to investigate them. that gets leaked to the press. there is all kinds of reputational damage done to that entity or person. there's money that has to be spent to get good lawyers to defend you.
4:29 pm
he will use the justice department in the way that he has said. trust him. this is what he has said. this is not something i'm making up. he has said he's going to use the justice department in that way. and that, if nothing else, should drive people to the polls to vote for kamala harris. >> when it comes to a good night's sleep, attorney general holder, giveth and he taketh away. i think you ought to take it very, very seriously. former attorney general eric holder, thank you so much. >> and coming up, trump is trying to gaslight america, particularly arab and muslim voters into thinking he would be a better choice when it comes to israel's war on gaza. despite his constant insults toward the palestinian people and his full throated support of netanyahu's war. we'll dive into that next.
4:34 pm
donald trump is trying to gaslight the public with his disingenuous outreach to arab and muslim voters but if anyone thinks a second trump administration would be good for palestinians can the west bank, rudy giuliani put that to rest in his ugly speech at madison square garden. >> the palestinians are taught to kill us at 2 years old. i'm sorry, i don't take a risk with people that are taught to kill americans at 2.

project, the abraham accords. abandoning the decades-old position that west bank settlements are a barrier to a peace agreement and eliminating restrictions on spending u.s. taxpayer dollars on those illegal settlements. closing the u.s. mission to palestine and recognizing israeli sovereignty over the golan heights in syria. trump's own son-in-law, jared kushner, praised the very valuable potential of gaza's waterfront property and suggested israel should remove civilians while it cleans up the strip. and while there have been some muslim groups and leaders coming out for trump, people are waking up to the fact as much as they may like the biden administration's unquestioning support for and arming of israel and biden's seeming indifference to palestinian casualties, donald trump would be far worse. muslim voter advocacy group endorsed harris to prevent, quote, a learn to islamophobic and other harmful policies under
