tv Inside With Jen Psaki MSNBC November 3, 2024 9:00am-10:00am PST
9:00 am
i'm pretty sure you have a busy day and few days ahead of you. chairperson of the michigan democratic party. that does it for me. thank you for watching and you can catch me back here saturday and sunday morning from 10:00 to noon eastern. join us on msnbc tuesday night for our special coverage of the 2024 presidential election. rachel maddow and the team will kick off. i will join you later that night after the moon is completely up in the sky and i will take you through the overnight on tuesday night. until we have a declared president of the united states elect. stay where you are. begins right now. here we are. we have just two days left in the craziest campaign season most of us can remember or at least that i can remember.
9:01 am
four indictments and 34 felony counts. one switch at the top of the democratic ticket and two assassination attempts later, we are now standing on the edge of what feels like a very tall cliff. i wonder if the truly remarkable things of the race is that there is so much volatility with dozens of moments that we all felt like maybe this is the determining factor right now. the race still looks remarkably close. the news cycle is constantly throughout, but there were polling moves that really surprised us. massive movement. that was until last night. before i show you these numbers and you may have seen them, but you should know where they come from. they come from the widely respected and incredibly accurate historical pollster in iowa. the phrase gold standard gets thrown around a lot in pulling, but i can tell you that she is actually the gold standard.
9:02 am
she gets it right much more than she gets it wrong. that makes you the gold standard. in 2016, she was out on a whim predicting that donald trump will beat hillary clinton by seven points but guess what, beat hillary clinton by nine. in 2020, her final poll had trumped up seven and ended up winning the state by eight. in her final poll before the selection released just last night, ann selzer's registered poll sends a bit of a mini earthquake around last night across the political world. it showed kamala harris leading donald trump by three points in iowa. that lead is fueled by a massive 20 point advantage among women in that poll. there are definitely outliers in polling and we all know that. that is probably one of the stories and could be one of the stories in the election. i'm certainly not suggesting that kamala harris is about to run away with iowa. the campaign is not betting on that either. what i am saying is that ann selzer is good at this. even if she is close to correct on this one, it is very good news for kamala harris. it shows that she is doing
9:03 am
quite well with a white rural electorate. here is the thing. it's not a poll happening in a vacuum. this one poll out of iowa isn't the only thing that is feeling good about with two days left. women are outpacing men and casting early ballots by nine points nationwide and 13 points in the crucial state of pennsylvania. democrats also have a 10 point enthusiasm advantage over republicans. there is signs that voters are breaking for kamala harris, too. according to a poll out this morning, 80% of voters who said that the only reason we decided on their vote. she wins the group by double digits, which is called closing strong. that is just a sample of the information out there. if you are feeling overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information, analysis, stories, data points and hot takes or whatever it may be. i have been doing this a very long time and
9:04 am
i feel the exact same way. the truth is that we just don't know the outcome of the election. i will talk to pete buttigieg and nancy pelosi will be the smartest minds in the democratic party. guess what? they don't know what's going to happen or what the outcome will be either. right now, for everything we don't know yet, there is a lot we do know about the choice and the stakes of the election. for me, as crazy and disorienting as the campaign season has been, i hope that these final few days have provided the country with a level of clarity. this week, trump said that he will protect women, whether they like it or not. whether they like it or not. here is how i heard that. as a creepy condescending threat from a guy who was himself found liable for sexual abuse and said he could grab women, because when you are a star, they let you do that sort of thing. appointed the supreme court justices who overturned a woman's right to make choices
9:05 am
about healthcare. hearing that kind of thing might be clarifying for women in these final days. trump also said this week that rfk jr., one of the leading vaccine conspiracy theorists will go to work on women's health adding, he can do anything he wants. that prospect definitely focuses the mind or it should. he also fantasized about watching his one of fiercest critics standing in front of a firing squad. >> she is a radical war hawk. let's put her where the rifle standing there with nine girls shooting at her and see how she feels about it. when the guns are trained in her face. >> that's awfully clarifying for anyone who doesn't want to live in a country where their leader threatens those who speak against them with death. that's all how he is closing out his campaign. controlling women, conspiracy
9:06 am
theorists with the nation's help , fantasizing about the death of a female critic. that iowa poll is shocking in some ways, but should a 20 point lead with women in any state be all that surprising? is there any wonder on why they are voting at a faster pace than men? maybe breaking harrises way? should we really be that surprised? this race will be close and we don't know how it will end. at the close of this campaign, at least the american people are seeing the core of donald trump. they are seeing who he really is and what he intends to do. he is who you think he is. he will use power how he has told us for years. he will use power. we are a few days out and there is not a shred of ambiguity left. am i concerned or anxious that there are not enough people on the battleground states who see the choice for what it is? of course i am. two days out from the election, i remain hopeful that there
9:07 am
are. starting this off today is transportation secretary pete to judge who is joining us from michigan in his personal capacity. it's great to see you. i have to start with brand-new poll out of iowa. you won in a democratic caucus back in 2020 and we all remember that. you also did some local media in iowa, which sent the internet a spur. what do you make of that poll? knowing iowa as you know it and the electorate as you know it. >> i spent a lot of time in iowa. on the level, it's remarkable and another, i see it and they think of themselves as folks were not afraid to cross party lines and usually vote this week, but decide about that way based on candidates. tracks with the fact that as far as i can tell, unprecedented number of republicans saying, this time he had to vote for democrats. it is only one poll and you don't want to get carried away, but if you do, we have this
9:08 am
stuff and this might be the most famous name in polling in iowa and it's extremely rigorous. what it tells us is not just what could happen in iowa, but what is happening across the country. i say this in all humility, because nobody really knows anything for sure until the election ends, but it is consistent with how it feels right now on the ground in michigan. right now, field office and been crisscrossing the state for the last day and a half and there is an extraordinary amount of energy. we kicked off with probably about 100 volunteers getting ready to go out and knock on doors. that momentum is real and i hope that if we all do our job and make sure that we talk to every voter we can think of about how to vote and whether to vote, this could propel a real victory on tuesday. >> sometimes energy tells you a lot, especially in the final days.
9:09 am
i don't think the harris campaign is counting on iowa and no one should think that, but michigan as an example and wisconsin, minnesota. states around there with demographics where she has been working to make it up. she has a huge among women and i was a big white rural state and it shows to me that she can do well perhaps among the demographic. what is your take away of that in terms of how it could play into other midwestern states? there is michigan that falls into the demographics, as well. >> donald trump broke almost every promise that he made, but he did manage to keep a couple and one of them was that he promised to destroy a woman's right to choose, which was a promise that he made to the far religious right. he kept that promise and destroyed that right. every american woman had a nationwide right to choose before he came to power and now they don't. that is an enormously important thing. not just women, but men who
9:10 am
care about women and about freedom in the country should be motivated by it. this is something that you do see reflected. if anything, i would guess that it may be a little bit hard to capture it in the polls with how strong the force that is read women as a force really helped change things in 2022 where we had election results in midterms that went against the laws of local physics and you usually don't see them do that well when there is a democratic president, but i think it had a lot to do with it. i was in 2020 to vote for the ballot initiative to secure the right to choose for women in the state, but it ought to be a national right. the whole point is that it applies to everybody everywhere in the country and i think about -- and pretty sure my mother is watching this right now and she and i want to make sure that my daughter has as many rights or more than my mother had and we
9:11 am
are all in this together to make sure that is a reality and it starts with making sure that kamala harris is the next president of the united states. >> i think anybody would like to know his mom. there is the julia roberts ad and obviously trump with saying that he will protect women, which i find to be creepy and a reminder of just his wrong positions on those issues. you seem to touch on this. are there female voters and maybe registered republicans were people telling their husbands who they will vote for and may be voting for harris, but not popping up in the polls? >> there could well be. sometimes when it calls, there is a few folks in the house and looking at how the conversation goes. everybody is thinking for themselves. i think we have a message for men about if you care about the rights and freedoms about women in your life. there is your wife, daughter and niece and coworkers and neighbors. it should be appealing to men, too.
9:12 am
all of this adds up into something and i think the most important thing is that these messages point in the same direction. in other words, our message about freedom and women's choice for we have the majority of americans agree with us aligns with our message about democracy where most don't want to have of any party or threatening violence against his opponents. our message about the economy where most americans disagree with the trump agenda of tax cuts for the rich and the project 2025 agenda and agree with kamala harris on things getting the child tax credit and making it more affordable to raise a family and building more housing. it's not like we are asking people to ignore one thing they care about in order to have the other. what most americans want out of policy and in terms of character is appointing one direction, which is to vote there kamala harris and not to sit this one out. this is incredibly close. i don't want any poll or rhetoric to think that this is not a very close race and it could come down to a couple
9:13 am
boats for precinct and we have to make sure that if you already voted, great and you have done your duty, but that is in the job is done. you can reach out to people in your life and come to the field office like where i am sitting and take a walk back and knock on doors. that can make the difference this year. >> you have said and i think they wonder, what could they do and how should they be talking? he responded to recent headlines about his rally at madison square garden and in other words a distraction. there is always a tricky balance and not giving trump oxygen while still holding him accountable. as you are out there on the trail over the next couple of days, how are you balancing that? how do you hope they balance that who are speaking publicly and privately about the choice your clicks? >> he does things that are so
9:14 am
outrageous, wrong and dangerous that we have to respond, but i think the more that we are talking about him, the less that we are talking about you, the voter and american family that has so much on the line. i do think we need to be out there reminding folks that it's not about chasing the latest silly thing he did or the disturbing thing he did or said online, but that we make it more affordable to live in the country and restore a woman's right to choose and grow the economy and remind everybody why they personally will be better off with her in charge. there is another message i think is important and it is something that is kind of by all of the craziness and ugliness of the campaign. they are yearning for a more normal future and one that has a normal republican party. a vote for kamala harris is not just punch you in the face every time you turn on the news, because we can get back to a way of doing things in
9:15 am
this country where we are not always going to agree, but it's not just constant in-your-face death match that it's felt like, whether his president or candidate. if he leads the republican party to the be the third time in a row, 2020 to 2022 midterms and now, then it will finally lead us to a moment where the republican party finds some way to part ways with what him and everything he represents. we can sometimes like a thanksgiving dinner leave politics on the back burner. >> let's just talk about turkey, stuffing and all the things. thank you so much. i think so many people are hoping for what you just described. really appreciate you joining us. good luck in michigan and say hello to your mom, as well. coming up, donald trump made a truly terrifying comment at a campaign rally in pennsylvania. we will play with you and talk about it with house speaker nancy pelosi when we come back.
9:16 am
easy to apply for the whole family. vicks vapostick. and try new vaposhower max for steamy vicks vapors. you've got a pepto predicament, ace. you overdid it on the loaded fries and now your gut is in the gutter. undo it with pepto fast melts. so you can keep on rolling. [bowling pins knocked down] when you overdo it, undo it with pepto bismol.
9:20 am
donald trump is rallying his supporters in pennsylvania right now and he seems to be leaning into his violent rhetoric in the home stretch of the campaign. listen to what he just said in pennsylvania moments ago. >> i have a lasso over here and i don't have a piece there. i have this peace at last year, but all we have is the fake news. to get me, somebody would have to shoot through the fake news and i don't mind that so much.
9:21 am
>> joining me now is house speaker nancy pelosi. it's great to see you. two days before the election and there is so much i want to talk to you about. healthcare, abortion rights and everything at stake. i do want to start with those comments, because her family knows better than any family in america with the consequences of trump's violent rhetoric. i just want to get your reaction to what he just said at the rally that we played for the audience. >> good morning and wonderful to be with you again on this weekend before the election. i think what the ex-president just said with the further indication of his cognitive degeneration. you saw recently how he was talking about whether he chose electrocution or being eaten by sharks. something is very wrong there and indicative also diminishing the power of the press, which is the guardian of our freedom in the country, so i think people might think about voting
9:22 am
for him and have to know that he can't last as president for four years with his brain deteriorating at the rate it is and it is clearly evident and they may be voting for j.d. vance, which would be a horrible thing for our country. you are right. our family has experienced violence. where is nancy? coming into our house and violating the sanctity of my home and husband looking for me. echoing what was said on january 6 in the capital. where is nancy? he was coming up the punishment for what i had said about donald trump. >> i raise it, because i think there is a fear that people have out there. we saw violent language and it was an anomaly as you know and everyone watching. he had a violent language when he was discussing this week and would not be such a war hawk if she had guns in her face. his campaign double down on the language.
9:23 am
i raise this, because he seems to know what he's doing and we have seen this before. do you think that he knows he is potentially inciting violence against her, you or others and who she raises and threatens publicly? >> it does have a chilling effect on people who may want to run for office to think that they would be endangering themselves or more importantly their families. i will say this, because you would think that it would be something that would be sold dispositive of people's vote, but there are some people who only vote by the fact that they are wealthy and don't want to pay taxes and they don't want any protections. that is really sad that their patriotism and they pledge allegiance to their tax return and not to our country and constitution and future. because of what you said earlier about women's right to choose and all of the things implied in that in terms of safety and rest for women, this is violence against women.
9:24 am
he may not know that. when he says things like, i want to protect women whether they like it or not, that is violence against women. would you want your son to say that to anyone? would you want your daughter to be told that? would you want your husband to say that to you? whether you like it or not? violence against women. violence against women safety and taking away and disrespecting women in a life- threatening way in terms of reproductive health. women have a lot to lose in this election, but they most importantly have a lot to gain by the election of kamala harris. let's talk about her instead of him. >> absolutely. let's talk about her. women in politics and i haven't been a woman in politics as high or as long as you have been. it's exciting to see women out voting men in early voting and
9:25 am
she is up 20 points in iowa according to a new poll. this all seems to be getting under his skin and we don't have to talk about him. what i'm curious for is you have such a good for politics but other people out there who are not being captured in the polls who may be voting and are maybe not telling their husband or their trump family, because we have seen such a movement on that front and people are understandably repulsed by the things that he is saying and policies on women issues. >> yes, i do. i have been to almost everyone of these states of significance in terms of the electoral college and what we see is of course women just saying, i am with you and republican women saying to the house. the house is there, as well. let me tell you something about the house. when we talk about dogs and the limitation on women's freedom,
9:26 am
the decision and how we have to win this election to respect women, understand this. we are still in control and i put them on the floor, something that would enshrine roe v. wade in our country. not one republican voted for it. okay, that's who they are. i put on the floor something from north carolina who said how women have a right to contraception. women have a right to contraception. someone said, why are you doing that? they will vote for this and look like they had a different view of things. i said that i know the territory. we put this on the floor and we had the majority to win it and of the republicans who voted, 203, eight voted yes. eight members voted yes that women have a right to contraception. 195 voted that
9:27 am
women do not have a right to contraception. contraception. again, women should know how disrespected they are, because the speaker of the house is a toady of trump. we will win the house. that will be very important for women and for the future of our country, but also on january 6th that he will have that gavel . as i had it before, you make sure that we went to the floor of the house to show that we prevailed and democracy prevailed their insurrection incited by the former president of the united states failed when they were telling me, you have to do this in an undisclosed location with the members. i said, no, we are not and we are going to the floor of the
9:28 am
house. has to have that gavel then and not only the gavel, but the votes to accept the results of the election, whatever they may be. >> it's an important part of it, but also the power of who controls the house. we will talk about that. we will talk about that and speaker nancy pelosi has agreed to stick around. we will be right back after a quick break. so, you never have to worry about costly damage from clogged gutters again. it's the easiest call you can make.
9:31 am
9:32 am
i don't have to think about that. with magic eraser... i use it on everyday messes. i even use it on things that i think are impossible to clean. you just add water, and then i'm good to go. i can go from the countertop, to the stove, to the microwave, and just use one magic eraser. if you're a mom, you need mr. clean magic eraser in your life. it gets the job done. house control also matters and this week, one of vice president best surrogates on the campaign trail turned out to be none other than speaker mike johnson. for some reason, donald trump's little buddy picked the week before the election to suggest that if he wins, republicans would try to repeal a law that is more popular than it's ever been. >> healthcare is one of the
9:33 am
sectors, but we needed across the board and trump will go big. you only have one more. he will need to think about legacy and we will fix those things. >> no obamacare? >> no obamacare. >> no obamacare according to mike johnson and he didn't even stop there, believe it or not. he slipped up, supposedly, and admitted that house republicans would try to repeal the chips act, which is responsible for thousands of jobs across key swing states. >> former president said that he doesn't support the chips and science act and you voted against it. will you guys try to repeal the law? >> i expect that we probably will, but we haven't developed that part of the agenda yet. >> nancy pelosi is back with me and telling me how important the control of the house is and how important it is that has the speakers gavel like she had.
9:34 am
i just played two clips and he has had quite a week and is trying to walk back from what he said on the chips act, and he said on obamacare. do you buy that? >> no, i don't. is joe is a puppeteer, which would be the ex-president. forgive my language, but this is something. >> we will forgive you. obamacare sucks and quoting him. it doesn't suck, but it cures. because we had -- let me go back to the reference about the previous election. in 2022, people said that would lose 30 or 40 seats. i don't know who in new york or washington, d.c. thinks that they know something, but we are on the ground and we know that people care about women's right to choose and the fate of our planet and gun violence and prevention and about our democracy. we lost five seats in new york, which we will pick up and be
9:35 am
speaker. people said at the time, you are putting too much emphasis on a woman's right to choose. i said, you know what? we know what we are doing. we are listening to people and you may be predicting, but we are listening. again, when they talk about all of that, that has outside mobilization supporting it. again, not one republican voted for it. in terms of the chips and science act, that was huge. it is chips, yes, but also science, which is about stem and education in bringing women and minorities and others who have not been involved in technology or the future of ni intelligence. on that score, yes, the leadership voted against it and they instructed their members to vote against it and they weren't allowed to vote until it was clear that we had the 24 put only 24
9:36 am
republicans voted for this job creating initiative that makes us self-reliant in the world in terms of our dependence on other countries and may in america create great jobs here. again, when he talks about the affordable care act and the rest of that as being on the table, he's just echoing the puppeteer who does not hesitate to shine a light on the strings as he puppeteer's other republicans in congress, but we will win the house, so let's not spend too much time on what they might do. 20, 30, 40 or 60 times that they had initiatives to abolish the affordable care act. repeal and replace. they never came up with the replace, but they just try to repeal. they lost and they will lose again. >> the love their healthcare, so a lot of obamacare and that is the thing. i may ask you before you go. i know you have a busy couple
9:37 am
of days. it has been clear that if kamala harris wins on tuesday, donald trump and his allies will challenge the results and they have already said that. there is a big piece in the new york times this week about his plans to basically follow his 2020 playbook. how concerned the are you and what will happen? do you feel that the parties are more prepared this time than they were four years ago? >> we are very prepared to counter his attempts to overturn the election and we want just about every court case and every challenge in the states. but we were not prepared for was the incitement of an insurrection by the sitting president of the united states. a violent attack on the capital, congress and constitution of the united states. people know what he might be capable of, but he's not president anymore. now, it has been declared --
9:38 am
january 6 has been declared a very special national security event, so the security will be there. he turned down bipartisan request over and over again all day for the national guard to come and it wasn't until the evening over 100 law enforcement people were hurt, then some died of their injuries and now he says that he was sending it. he lies. they have endless money in the campaign and not one commitment to truth. nothing. we have to deal with that. we will be ready. how shameful of them. have they no shame to be in violation of the constitution of the united states. the benefit court decisions that already dismissed some of the things he said before. some of the judges have changed and there may be some change in that. again, a formal attorney general
9:39 am
has been so much in the forefront of all of this. he is ready to win and ready to become speaker of the house. by the way, i'm a former chair of the democratic party. i'm in on the ground person. mobilization. get out the vote. let's not worry about who might vote or not vote. let's get out the vote that we had and we will make history with kamala harris president and tim walz vice president and make progress for the american people. >> if you people have better good instincts about politics and know how to count votes. thank you for taking the time and i know you have a busy couple of days ahead. i love talking to you. coming up, from donald trump to elon musk. officials are sounding the alarm about a fire of misinformation ahead of election day. one of the leading experts who
9:43 am
as we have been talking about, two days until election day and people in charge of protecting elections are sounding the alarm's as loudly as they can. >> i think the greatest is the firehose of disinformation. it's corrosive to our democracy and it does the work of our foreign adversaries. by the way, it's creating very real and physical threats. >> that was the director of cyber security and infrastructure security agency and the firehose of misinformation she is talking about seems especially out-of- control and it has for a wild. it's being fed by the republican nominee himself and the world's richest man who is helping him and being fed by right-wing podcast who has spread lies about the election over the past year. yes, it is definitely being fed by russia.
9:44 am
u.s. intelligence officials said that russians were responsible for a video that appeared on social media falsely claiming that haitians voted multiple times for vice president harris. we saw something similar last week when russians circulated video falsely claiming that balance were destroyed. in terms of that analogy, i think it is pretty accurate right now. joining me is someone who knows a lot about this who served as a director of cyber security infrastructure security agency during the trump administration and was one of the federal officials who publicly pushed back on the lies during the 2020 election. great to see you and thank you for taking the time. i want to start with russia. we have seen this and experienced it before. some may have ptsd from the past. the fake videos that they have been circulating. is that the take the tip of the iceberg? what should our viewers know about the scale of corruption influence campaign?
9:45 am
>> i do think it's the tip of the iceberg and when you think about the overarching strategy. they have multiple different prongs and some will be on the disinformation side and some may be technical cyber security threats against the election systems, but what we are seeing is the staff breaking through. if you go to telegram and even if you go to x, there is a substantial amount of content out there that is looking for engagement and looking for amplification. it's not just russia, but it's also iran and we have domestic actors that are creating their own lies for their own political purposes. >> let me ask about the mechanisms and how it spreads. x is now owned by elon musk and that wasn't the case four years ago. we have seen him already before election day share a number of inaccurate reports about fraud and other misleading elements of disinformation.
9:46 am
how concerned are you or should we be about his ownership of x in this moment and the role it could play in spreading conspiracies when they are trying to pursue accurate information? we are trying to make sure the public has accurate information. >> first things first, if you are looking for accurate information on the election, always go to state and local election official. vote.gov is a great resource. in the case of the spread of disinformation, what we are seeing is russians developing content and laundering it. they are laundering it through telegram and x, which is getting picked up by american citizens and they are amplifying it and repeating it, which is their first amendment right. we are seeing a shift in behaviors, because of a pullback in content moderation.
9:47 am
the russians are exploiting the seam and driving disinformation microphone right through it and i would expect that as we get to the post election day timeframe, it will only increase particularly if the vice president wins. it will absolutely go through the roof as a point of undercutting and confidence as we look forward to january 6 and eventually inauguration. >> it sounds like you saying that foreign actors are watching that and ready to take advantage of that should she win, as well. before i let you go, i want to ask you about the tactical decision by the intelligence community to call out these fake videos as quickly as possible and it wasn't what happened, but it is similar in my view to what happened in the early days of the russian invasion of ukraine. what do you make of the strategy? are there other things they should be doing? >> you are spot on. the change
9:48 am
in aggressiveness in the classifying and engaging the american public has been a shift since 2016 or sometimes it took months to declassify and talk about what the russians are doing. we are seeing it even as little as 30 minutes from intelligence collection to public warning. that is a significant development and an advantage that we have, but i also want to say that in my conversations as recently as this morning, they are doing more for election officials than ever before. this will be a secure election and it will be more secure in large part things that has done and to what the fbi has done. america should have confidence in the security of the election
9:49 am
and they need to get out there and vote. >> that's a good message to and on. thank you so much. you provide so much clarity and understanding and trying to make sense of information out there. if you are the harris campaign, you are feeling pretty good about this headline . former obama campaign manager knows what it's like to actually win iowa in a presidential election and he joins me next. and inconvenient, but with a generac home standby generator, your life goes on uninterrupted. because when your generac detects a power outage, it automatically powers up, giving your family the security and peace of mind they deserve. we don't have to worry about whether we lose power or not. if the utility company does not come through, our generac does. after the hurricane happened, we just want to be prepared for anything. 8 out of 10 home generators are generac, with thousands of satisfied customers. number one thing to prepare for is extended power outages. don't make it so hard on yourself, have a generac home standby generator.
9:50 am
9:52 am
when my doctor gave me breztri for my copd i noticed things changed. breztri gave me better breathing starting within 5 minutes. it also reduced flare-ups. breztri won't replace a rescue inhaler for sudden breathing problems. it is not for asthma. tell your doctor if you have a heart condition or high blood pressure before taking it. don't take breztri more than prescribed. breztri may increase your risk of thrush, pneumonia, and osteoporosis. call your doctor if worsened breathing, chest pain, mouth or tongue swelling, problems urinating, vision changes, or eye pain occur. ask your doctor about breztri. it is nice to see you, kamala.
9:53 am
i'm just here to remind you that you've got this, because you can do something your opponent cannot do. you can open doors. >> an appearance on saturday night live last night is the last thing that kamala harris did last night as far as we know and here is the headline she woke up to this morning. this is the front page noting that a shocker or poll showing her up three points in what has been reliably a red state. joining me is president obama's 2012 campaign manager who knows more about politics than i love or know. what good things -- what the harris campaign feels best about that register poll has to be one of them. what do you make of the public and what else should they feel good about? >> you look at the poll and wake up and are like, holy mother of god. >> i appreciate using mother of god, but continue.

>> do i think that she will win iowa? i don't, but what you see is enthusiasm and momentum. we have been talking for a while about why enthusiasm matters. the people will vote and get money. you see that in polling, too. people answer polls more and answer the phone more. they are excited about their candidate and that's what you saw last night. you also see the surge at the end for harris and you mostly see it. this is what i mostly excited about. when it was the biden campaign, then it was the harris campaign. you and i know very well built the largest political operation in the history of american politics for this weekend to turn out votes. they were hitting an average of 2000 doors a minute in pennsylvania and massive numbers in wisconsin.

battleground states are coming out in what looks to be for early votes, historic numbers. that makes the harris campaign very happy, but when you are looking at the early voting, it has led lots of our friends to call me panicking and i do think that republicans have done a better job. >> before i let you go, last round. what is the one thing that people should have their eyes on the next couple of days? >> twiddling crowd sizes. this is not how you want to close a campaign. you don't want to close a campaign the same crazy things like, i don't care what women think and i will look out for them, which is historic offensive to women voters. you look at some of the other things they have said and some crazy things that his surrogate said. you just can't have a worse close to the election at exactly the moment that the swing voters are making up their minds. that is one thing that people don't understand. we are seeing crazy trump
