an hour ago, so it all makes sense that she has landed there at the barber shop. doing a lot of retail politics in the all-important battleground state of michigan today. we did see governor gretchen whitmer with her in the last hour, but we are glad to show you everybody here at barber shop in pontiac, michigan. it's a black-owned barber shop and she is on her way before she heads to another rally and staying in battleground michigan all day today. we will have harrison, date head of the dnc talking about where the democrats stand today and what the internal polling is telling him. very good day to all of you from msnbc election headquarters in new york. welcome to alex witt reports and we begin this hour with a race for the white house.
12:01 pm
just over 48 hours away from decision 2024 and on the cusp of history. the candidates leaving no stone unturned ahead of the vote. kamala harris earlier at a church in detroit and will be doing this campaigning in michigan today with surrogates confident that she can pull off the win. >> let me tell you something, blackman will not show up voting for donald trump. they're not. i believe that while it will be a tight race, i believe the country is pulling together. we can all go back and forth and i don't pay much attention to the polls and i really trust what i feel on the ground. >> donald trump starting his date with a rally in pennsylvania, 75 miles west of philadelphia. today, trump supporter senator tim scott said that republicans are optimistic that this will be a fair election. >> the supreme court and local courts in pennsylvania ruled in
12:02 pm
favor of the trump campaign this election cycle. >> this has nothing to do with what they say. >> you are asking a question about voter integrity and election integrity. and giving you the answer. we have seen it in the right direction, which is reason for us to be optimistic that this will be fair. trump will also be in north carolina and georgia closely in those states by governor tim walz and senator jb vance will be in pennsylvania, north carolina and new hampshire. here is where the race stands for and early votes nationwide in the party split remains even at 4040. also, new surprise in polling from iowa, one of the most respected pollsters showing vice president harris leading trump 47% to 44%, which is a red state that trump won the last two election cycles and the lead is within the margin
12:03 pm
of error. fresh nbc news poll shows harris and trump not surprisingly neck and neck, but harris is the candidate more likely to represent change. there is part of the report on the most critical issues for voters from on meet the press. >> we come to the issues that voters say matter most to them and how they rate the candidates. again, notably, harris continues to do best on abortion and a 20 point advantage and trump continues to do best on inflation, cost of living and advantage there of 12. >> when it comes to the mood of the campaigns, the harris team has struck a more optimistic tone in recent days adding her adviser says that late deciders may be turned off by the divisive tone that trump priest he campaign has struck in the closing days. new signs that the harris campaign strategy of outreach to republicans might be working. here is what senator told my colleagues here on the weekend.
12:04 pm
>> i cannot tell you the energy on the ground. i cannot tell you the number of people who come up to me and michael knows these people, because they are republicans or former republicans at diners and airports or whatever. they go up to me and say, i a conservative republican, but i can't vote for him. they come up and give a thumbs up. this happened five times in wisconsin. don't forget this. turnout could hinge on the weather. here is a look at the temperatures that we expect to see on tuesday and we will give you a peek at the temperatures coming up. reporters across the country ready to cover all of the developing story lines and we will start with aaron gilchrist who is joining us from east lansing michigan and covering the harris campaign. welcome. michigan has a large arab population and perhaps the largest in the country. how is the vice president
12:05 pm
attempting to sway undecided voters who have concerns about the israel gaza situation. >> first, i will apologize. my last day on the campaign trail and i'm finally starting to lose my voice. you bring up a good point. there is a significant arab- american muslim population in the state. that question was put to the vice president a little while ago when she stopped after church to talk to reporters and she was asked, what is the closing message to arab- american and muslim voters here in michigan in the detroit area. listen to part of her response. >> i'm honored to have the support of many arab-american leaders who represent the interest and concerns of the arab-american community. i also know well enough that there are many issues that all americans face. of course, some are specific to what is happening in gaza. on the subject of gaza, i have been very clear on the level of
12:06 pm
death of innocent palestinians is unconscionable. need to end the war and get the hostages output as president, i will do everything in my power to achieve that. >> reporter: what we don't know at this point is how well the message is breaking through. you have to remember that during the primary where joe biden was the candidate, there was a significant uncommitted vote during the primary to the tune of about 100,000 people who voted uncommitted during the primary. you have to remember that in 2020, joe biden won michigan by 154,000 votes and if there is a significant number of people who either don't vote democrat in this general election or choose to still go with this uncommitted methodology, then that could be a problem for the vice president here in
12:07 pm
michigan. at the same time, she is making rounds and has been here several times over the last couple of weeks and is crisscrossing the region again today before she heads to pennsylvania tomorrow. again, she's trying to do that retail politicking or she can talk to voters and convince them to turn out to vote an early voting ends in michigan today and make sure they turn out to vote on election day and talk about turning out to vote, as well to the friends and family. >> hang in there. you have three more days but you can go through. didn't sound bad at all. we will go to nbc's in kinston, north carolina. we know that trump arrived there after the rather eventful rally in pennsylvania earlier today. tell us what we heard from him. >> a lot of headlines coming out of that one. he was on a teleprompter for the majority. claims of election fraud that are unsupported are not new from the former president, but he has thrown out you talking points both on 2020 and 2024. take a listen and we will talk
12:08 pm
on the other side. >> we had the safest border in the history of our country the day that i left. i shouldn't have left. i mean, honestly. we did so well and had such a great -- so, now, every polling booth has hundreds of lawyers standing there and it's all about the lawyers. everyone is staring at the lawyers and nobody should have that. he should have a ballot and you handed in. >> reporter: a concern about what this might mean for election day and the days following and whether or not the president will accept results and he has consistently said that he will do so if he believes it is a fair election, but he has questioning that before we have even gotten to november 5th. the other big headline coming out of the rally is a comment that he made about the press. talking about the bulletproof glass in front of him and the
12:09 pm
assassination attempt. he said, somebody would have to shoot through the fake news and i don't mind that so much. now, obviously, that has received a lot of attention and backlash. his campaign as responded in a statement and they are saying that in fact that president trump was stating that the media was in danger and they were protecting him and in great danger themselves. he was actually looking out for their welfare. that is the response to the trump campaign. you heard me read his direct quote about what he said about the media. that last rally is really a skill at torrey in tone and entered the anger emanating from the former president in these final days. >> you read it and we hurt ourselves. we will leave it at that. thank you for that. joining us, dnc chair jaime harrison. i want to thank you for taking the time given how busy you
12:10 pm
must be. before i launched a few questions for you. let's listen to barack obama he is in milwaukee on this last day of early voting. let's take a listen, everybody. >> you think donald trump can do that? do you think donald trump has ever changed a tire in his life? if he gets a flat tower tire, he calls his chauffeur. a change that tire. i don't know if his chauffeur is actually named, but i like to think. it's jeeves. the point is that if you elect kamala and tim , they know something about your life, because it has been their life. focused not on their problems, but yours. that is why for so many of us,
12:11 pm
the choice in the election seems like it should be so clear. on one hand, you got a former president whose time in office was characterized by so much chaos and scandal that he was impeached not one time, but twice. on the other end, you have somebody who cares about working people and has served with distinction in every office that she has ever helped. here is the thing, milwaukee. we live in a big country. wisconsin is a big state. people have a lot of different points of view. there are voters who are just as passionate about trump. just like the last two elections, this one will be determined by
12:12 pm
a handful of people who are genuinely torn about who to vote for or are debating on whether to vote at all. >> i'm glad we were able to give our viewers to that and to you, as well, chairman. i'm sure you welcomed the extra hour of sleep last night if you took advantage of it. we heard barack obama talking about how the choice of the election seems so clear. where do democrats stand today trying to win control of both the white house and chambers of commerce congress? >> it's crystal clear. this is so much more than just democrats feeding republicans. this is really about democracy. this is about america and who we want to be. the reporter reported on what donald trump said about the media. that is disgusting, deranged and delusional. it is so dark and we heard what he said. this is where donald
12:13 pm
trump is and i think a lot of people, four years have passed since donald trump was president. you remember that for four years that is the type of stuff that we were getting every day out of the white house. it is time for america to turn the page and to close the chapter once and for all, because it is not who we are and i'm not talking about we as in democrats, but we as americans. it is simply not who we are. we are better than that. i remember when it was disqualifying when a candidate for president didn't pay taxes or something. this guy is a 34 count convicted felon that was impeached twice that sexually assaulted a woman. why do we want that in the white house? we don't. america is better than that. with this closing argument is showing is that kamala harris is talking about the american people and not ways. donald trump is talking about
12:14 pm
violent stuff, payback, retribution and revenge. i don't think that's what the american people want and i think we will see that on november 5th in the election. >> you have just given the reasons for which barack obama was saying why the choice in the election seems so clear, yet here we are in a very tight race. is there internal polling or early vote data that is either giving you hope or concern? >> what gives me hope as being out on the ground. i have been in 16 states over the last 22 or 23 days. the only people who have been out there is kamala harris herself. we have been crisscrossing the country and i can tell you just like you told many friends in the media in the midterms when they were saying about the red wave. i told them then that when you were on the ground and talking to people, you feel the energy
12:15 pm
and you know where it's going. i was just in north carolina for three days and nevada for two days. we are going to win the election and i can feel it. there is a shift and change in terms of tenor. there is a lot of energy out there. i think people are fed up with what they are seeing with donald trump and are ready for a change. kamala harris is that change. >> the dnc announcing the six- figure paid media campaign in georgia and north carolina specifically targeting the rural voters in the final days of the election. will that make a big difference in the next 48 hours? >> i think it will make a huge difference. i grew up off of a dirt road, so i understand the unique things about growing up in rural america. what we are trying to target are particularly community of color that are in north carolina and georgia and making
12:16 pm
sure that they have all information and things they need to get out and vote. it can really have a huge impact on what happens at the top of the ticket in both states. >> nbc news has been reporting that north carolina is making the trump campaign nervous. this is a state that trump won in 2016, then narrowly in 2020. you are at the harris rally yesterday. just give me a sense of the level of enthusiasm that is giving you the confidence to come on the show and say that you think she can do it. >> i can tell you. i attended both the harris rally yesterday, then barack obama was there a few weeks ago. the energy there on the ground in charlotte -- i mean, they packed a huge coliseum there and folks are energized. the organization on the ground is like nothing we we have had.
12:17 pm
i visited one of the field offices with the bp sister. they are knocking on the doors and they are hitting their benchmarks. it is just blowing my mind. i talked with a chair in pennsylvania the other day and the pennsylvania democratic party. he told me that for the campaign, we will hit 5 million doors. when you add in third-party groups, 10 million doors in the state of pennsylvania. that is a game changer. you don't see anything comparable. that is what we have been building. i give joe biden credit for that , because from day one of joe biden and going into the white house, they were committed to rebuilding infrastructure of the democratic party and we had a 50 state strategy, so i will not be surprised by the upset wind in states that are not on
12:18 pm
the radar, we built infrastructure on the ground and some of the best parties that i have seen in a long time. >> biden and harris committed to it, as well as you, jaime harrison. best of luck and thank you so much. thank you in getting any kind of sleep between now and then. you know what you are thinking and i know what i'm thinking, but what are voters in swing states thinking about the election? you will hear from some of them when we are back in 90 seconds.
12:20 pm
breaking news from milwaukee. president barack obama's breaking speaking. 51 people attending this event and his appearance comes on the final day of in person absentee voting there. both harris, trump and running mates have already made several appearances today with many more scheduled for tomorrow. we have reporters in two swing states who are talking to voters who came out early to vote, so we came out to antonia hylton in north carolina. i know you were talking to voters today, so how were they feeling? >> reporter: people are excited, but also incredibly nervous for tuesday. people in north carolina didn't think this was going to be a swing state, but both campaigns are fighting it out here and the democrats in particular feel like they have a chance to
12:21 pm
re-create something from 2008. what you see behind me is a nonpartisan voter activation event and this is especially geared for young families and college age students and exactly the demographics that the harris campaign has been anxious to seek it out there. they were very excited by the early voting numbers coming out and the major metro counties. they loved those numbers and they saw a lot of communities of color and a lot of young college aged voters. those are the ones who make a difference for them in the state where there is a lot of independence and unaffiliated people right in the middle who made their decisions in the last minute. take a listen to the voters i have been talking to today. >> a little nervous. definitely with social media being a big part of it, but hopefully my vote matters and i'm able to make a difference.
12:22 pm
>> i'm kind of nervous, too. this is my first time voting and it's like, it feels like i have a voice in this country and it feels good. >> looking at a black woman, i think racial justice is really important for me and alongside advocacy for reproductive rights and the list can go on and on. >> reporter: for so long, people have talked about the democratic 30 in north carolina, so their only hope is voters of color and particularly the black community coming out for democrats and making this possibly happen for harris. the whole out of iowa shocked people and was interesting here, too, because they suspected for a while that she might be over performing with white voters, too. the result there in an electorate that is similar to some part of the state, too, they are hoping that she performs there and brings out
12:23 pm
the young and diverse voters that you see behind me that it will make a difference tuesday night. >> thank you so much despite all of the music and activity there behind you. we can hear you loud and clear. let's bring in nbc's from cedar rapids, iowa. breakdown the new iowa poll for us. how are voters reacting to the pretty stunning results? >> reporter: they are just as surprised as most of us are, alex. if you recall iowa a swing state before last night, you would have seen a lot of people laughing. this iowa poll is widely respected here in iowa and across the country. she is a rarely wrong when it comes to polling, so that's why the three point lead within the margin of error for kamala harris. they wrapped up voting inland county, which is a county where there is diverse breakdown of voter registration data and 40%
12:24 pm
democrats and 40% independence and 20% republicans. i want hear victor who was very surprised when he saw the poll numbers. >> i was a little bit surprised, because i know that iowa has been known for the public state, so it's kind of nice to see that people are thinking twice and thinking more . not just kind of one-sided, but more open-minded of different view. it is kind of different. i guess people are thinking more of the topic and all of that stuff. it's nice to see iowa -- it's a little bit more diverse i guess. >> reporter: now, even though iowa has been ruby red for trump last two cycles, it did used to have more battleground description, so iowa voters are in the mind-set of anything can
12:25 pm
happen here, so they are excited to see how it plays out come tuesday, but if that's the case and if harris can lead by a few points as though polls suggest, then that would totally disrupt the name of the game when it comes to the battleground states. if she can hold iowa, then there is a different state of play for michigan, wisconsin and pennsylvania and different routes of presidency and a harder one for president trump, at that. >> once again, thank you so much. my next guest has a crystal ball and it is special and just for politics. what races he will be watching and his predictions for tuesday next.
12:26 pm
12:28 pm
12:29 pm
12:30 pm
in the meantime, an nbc news poll shows vice president harris and donald trump in a tight battle with just two days left until election night. according to the latest numbers, both candidates are neck and neck at 49% among registered voters. joining his presidential historian and professor at the university of virginia and director for politics and editor in chief of the crystal ball. i will see if i can get you to break things out for us. you are a friend and famous and respected guy for your political predictions. your thoughts on this very close race, because according to your crystal ball, all seven battlegrounds, nevada, arizona, wisconsin, north carolina and georgia are all considered tall subs. which of these races will be the one to watch? >> we will issue our final
12:31 pm
evaluations tomorrow and i will send you one at least one minute early, so you will have that first. i think it's misleading. that map is very misleading. i love to talk about the eighth wonder of the world. we finally have broken through the seven swing states and we have an eight swing state in iowa. this is exciting and we can stop talking about every hamlet in pennsylvania. i don't know whether iowa will be a swing state in the end, but that was a very sick african development and it was a first of morale. it was a morale boost for democrats. everybody saw it on twitter and email conversations with friends and relatives. it had a big impact and i think it was another little piece of the fact that the last 10 days have been kamala harris's 10 days. >> do you think iowa has a
12:32 pm
chance of going blue? >> i would've bet that way, but i've lost a lot of money betting. they don't let me go to the poker table anymore. look, is it likely? no. i will tell you what really matters. she is accurate. ann selzer has a great record and the poll has a great record. even if it's off and even its trump is still ahead with the previous poll suggested, then that is less than the 8 to 10 that he won by twice, which suggests a movement particularly among older women and maybe younger women, as well. that will have an impact in a lot of other states and we look first to wisconsin, because much of wisconsin is so similar to the rural counties in iowa. we look a lot of places, but wisconsin is the first place we look.
12:33 pm
>> you said you have your crystal ball prediction and you have a final one coming out tomorrow and thanks for the early heads up on that one, my friend. let me get a sense of what the headlines will be on wednesday or friday, because i'm doing a bit of extra time for this question today since i'm presuming that you don't think we will know wednesday morning with the results are. >> the odds are against it, but we did in 2016, which was also very close. hillary clinton won the vote by 3 million and we knew the result through the electoral college and somewhere in that general facility on the extended election night. it's not impossible that we will know. >> what about tuesday night? is there an early indicator that you are watching for? you say that this is how it will go. is there something that you think will be a good bellwether? >> there are two states that should go democratically. that is new hampshire and virginia. i mentioned them, because the
12:34 pm
trump campaign kept saying intermittently over a long period of time and the last few days that there will be much more competitive than expected. they closed the polls there and around 7:00 p.m., so we will have a substantial portion and no later than midnight and maybe earlier than that. we can see that there isn't some hidden movements of donald trump. if they are very close, then people will have to get it out there. >> how did they go holding or flipping? >> the house is incredible and my house senator is terrific. essentially, it's coming down to a few seats.
12:35 pm
if we don't have this close in the end and that is the number of democrats versus republicans in the new congress, i really want to be surprised and i don't see a margin for either party, but the senate is interesting, because it isn't just about the next two year congress, 25 -26. it is about building the republican margin. they are hoping not to just get 50 or 51 seats, they want to get 52, 53 and 54, so they can build on that for what i think is an exaggerated expectation. if they end up getting the minimum, then that tells you something. 52 isn't that impressive compared to what they were saying not very long ago and just a couple of weeks ago. they had a real shot at pennsylvania, michigan, nevada and on and on. it's not looking that way at the end. they are not polls and they sometimes fool you, but right
12:36 pm
now democrats are doing pretty well in a lot of the states and a big republican margin in the senate is unlikely. >> always good to talk to you, my friend. give my regards, as well. thank you. coming up, we are hearing from the governor of michigan. . it doesn't overwhelm like: it's campfire leather musk overload. because downy light is gentle and balanced. it's a nature inspired scent, to breathe life into your laundry.
12:37 pm
12:39 pm
michigan governor on the last day of early voting there and joining us is nbc's jesse kirsch. what did the governor tell you, my friend? >> reporter: we talked to the governor about a couple of different things, but i want to emphasize where we are. we are in the detroit suburbs and could potentially be crucial for vice president harris, because there are multiple that play here and this is an area in michigan that we are looking to see if the vice president will be flipping. former president trump won them before. >> reporter: abortion is in the state constitutional protection of abortion access. how do you motivate voters? >> we are still. we know that it's so precarious in this country. we have come a long way, but it can be undone. sends him a
12:40 pm
national abortion ban and all of the work we did could be for nothing and we could be sent back. that is why this is an important issue for us. >> reporter: i was just in dearborn earlier today and many voting for jill stein per jill stein will not be president and he was clear about that, but that could sway the vote one way or another. >> that is not going to be one community or one group of people that made the difference. what i have shared with so many of my friends in the community and muslim community and palestinian community, as well as the jewish community that if you want a commander in chief that will use every ounce of power in the office is kamala harris and it sure isn't donald trump.
12:41 pm
>> reporter: the governor can say that about the arab- american community, but make no question about it, alex, that is a sizable chunk that could potentially be swing things in a close race and looking back to the primary of over 100,000 people voted uncommitted in the democratic primary, so 100,000 people opted to not support president biden who was at the time still on the democratic ticket, so a lot of unknowns. we will see what happens. >> dearborn michigan being home to so many arab-americans. thank you for that. joining me in the studio, we have host of fast politics podcast and special correspondent for vanity fair and joined by meredith, national political correspondent for politico. glad you are in the studio to keep me company as the day went on for me. early voting is wrapping up in these early states ahead of election day. give me your sense of the read of the numbers. >> we still see a gender
12:42 pm
differential, which is a really important thing and i want to talk about the poll that came out of iowa, which showed harris up three. the abortion ban in iowa was enacted and that actually looked this up. it was july 2024. before that, she had trump up 50 to biden, 32. >> this is the difference. >> now, she has harris up 47 and trump, 43. will she win iowa? who knows. it's important to point out that the abortion ban was in the middle of these two numbers and i do think we are not talking enough about the fall and how that has affected voters. we are not talking about older women voters who lived in an america where they had a fundamental right and they saw that taken away. i think that will be a big motivating factor. >> i will ask another question,
12:43 pm
but i do want to talk about a trump campaign aide, which tells nbc news that there has been a mood shift on his plane in the final days before the election nbc reports that it hasn't been the usual trump show where he holds court, tells and retells stories that he and the team are now more subdued, focused and spending the time instead talking business and work shopping speeches and policy. how do you interpret that? >> we just have a couple of days until the election, so this is their last opportunity to make the closing arguments and to be visiting some of these areas that trump needs to target. there is a let's get down to business attitude with his team and i think we are getting mixed signals from the polls that have been released. the trump campaign has been cautiously optimistic and i hear that from the harris campaign and expressing
12:44 pm
confidence for the different demographics that they feel like they need to be pushing out , but i will say when you see polls like that, they dismissed it and send out a memo saying that this was a clear outlier, but i do think that it speaks to some of the trend lines that we have all been following and i think like molly was mentioning just now about some of these older female voters who have really been getting up to vote. republican voters often vote on election day. some of the points that molly was making about the role that abortion might play this election and some of the numbers we are seeing with women and senior voters could be interesting to watch. >> 100%. as we get back to iowa, there is a very large either on physical evangelical population. you mentioned the older voters as women will remember when roe
12:45 pm
v. wade was in effect, but evangelical voters, you would think that it would be an anathema to them. >> i'm not sold on evangelical voters abandoning trump, though trump has recently done things that were very much off message for him that might not have helped him and he has said wild stuff and has acted very wildly , but i would look at mormon voters, because he has had missteps with voters, including doing these coffee mugs and beer cozies and you remember that they don't drink coffee nor alcohol and using images of the leader of mormon faith on mugs without permission. i have actually heard from people on the ground that there is definitely a sense where he may not have mormon support the way he did and that will be arizona. utah will go right, but that can be enough numbers to perhaps shift things. >> we have both campaigns in
12:46 pm
swing states and harris is in michigan and trump will be in north carolina and georgia. that plane has landed in north carolina and they are a bit late , but all of the states were the new york times poll shows a tightly contested race. can the final push by candidates make a difference in the mind of voters and particularly the undecided? >> i think these events are important in showing some momentum and voters want to feel like they have enthusiasm and are excited about getting to the polls. when they see these events, i definitely think it plays into it. both campaigns want to have these blockbuster events where they can show all of the support on the ground, which might convince somebody to get up off the couch and want to be part of that and go to the
12:47 pm
polls, as well. it's a great opportunity for them to give their closing message and i will say that at the same time we have seen from donald trump who has said some things and the latest swing that is giving him the headlines that are going against his messages of the economy. >> we are nearly out of time, but i will ask you what you are looking forward to tuesday night? >> i thought was really smart. when we saw in 2016 when clinton was struggling with virginia, that was a major moment where i thought that she's really in trouble. i personally think that if she wins north carolina or georgia, because those of the first states to close. that would be a real sign that things -- it will be a good night for her. >> what is your bellwether as you look to tuesday night?
12:48 pm
>> i'm going to be looking at georgia and north carolina, but the biggest one of course is pennsylvania. they have invested and spent so much time and energy in the state and i was just there talking to voters on the ground and i do feel like it will be a squeaker, so i will be watching that one closely. >> great minds think alike. appreciate that very much, molly and meredith. new reaction from the sunday talkshow on the same old song that donald trump might sing once the election is over. get back to better breathing with fasenra, an add-on treatment for eosinophilic asthma that is taken once every 8 weeks. fasenra is not for sudden breathing problems or other eosinophilic conditions. allergic reactions may occur. don't stop your asthma treatments without talking with your doctor. tell your doctor if your asthma worsens. headache and sore throat may occur. tell your doctor if you have a parasitic infection. step back out there with fasenra. ask your doctor if it's right for you. in kingston, north carolina waiting donald trump's arrival as we get reaction from members of congress of whether the former president is laying the groundwork to claim election fraud just like he did in 2020. it's the same sad story that he had in 2020. i would like to remind everyone that biden by 80,000 votes and we will be back in the same situation. he will try to lie and claim these things, but now we are going to have a new team leading america and that will be harris and tim walz. it will be close. >> you are asking the question about voter integrity and election integrity. i'm giving you the answer. we are seeing a strong shift in the right direction. this election will be fair. we have democratic congressman from connecticut
12:52 pm
jim himes who is the ranking member of the house intelligence committee and is also on the house financial services committee and we are glad to welcome you on this big day. we have donald trump's son eric who told nbc yesterday that his father would accept the election results assuming that it's fair. that is his quote. claims of election fraud led to violence in 2020. are you concerned that it could happen again? >> i really don't care what eric trump says and ask anybody. i will accept the election results if they are fair. the question is, do they get the benefit of the doubt on this thing? of course they do not to this day. donald trump is not accepted what everyone else in america except for his followers knows to be true, which is that he dramatically lost the election in 2020. you can take it to the bank that he will not accept a loss if that is in fact what occurred. the question is, where are the weaknesses and how much does he

revert to the violent rhetoric such that some idiot or a couple of idiots without access to firearms will turn up at a county electoral office or whatever. maybe you should have asked somebody in the house chamber on january 6, 2021, but he is already laying the groundwork and he's already claiming that it was raked, so he will not accept a loss. let's not be confused about that. >> generally six, 2021 and you will never forget the hours you spent there. it's go to the u.s. intelligence agencies who issued warnings about the fake video that could spread misinformation about the election. they recently concluded that russia was behind three of those videos. your ranking member of the house committee, so what is your biggest concern about misinformation from foreign actors in the lead up of the selection?
12:54 pm
>> of course, am very concerned about the russians in particular and they are always the ones, because chaos and violence is a good outcome for them and i think that the chinese are a little bit more nuanced in their objectives to the politics, but chaos and violence would be a huge win for russia and they will throw whatever garbage they can into social media however they can do it and of course they are doing it. we will go after them, indict and use the full powers of the intelligence many to name the actors that are doing that and i would hope that the president would make it clear that messing around with our democracy is an act of war. why i have a hard time thinking that is a really core problem is because donald trump himself is spinning out once an hour with some fact free baloney that serves the purpose of firing up his people. trumps the daily lies are

protected under the first amendment of the constitution and appear to be protected in the minds of his supporters, even though i suspected 20 years ago that they might send a president who lies all the time and doesn't have the character to hold the office. >> speaking of violence, arizona's attorney general's office is investigating trump's violent comments. republican senator said this morning and donald trump was making a point. take a listen to this. to make the point he was making is not a new point, but a point that has been made by people from both parties for decades, which is that you are all for war and it's easy to be for war when you are in fancy building and safe and sound in washington, d.c. let's see how much you are for war when you yourself get deployed for combat. >> was that the point he was making? what is your response? >> it is the same old tired dads. he says something outrageous
12:56 pm
and violent and i don't want to spend a lot of time talking about whether or not donald trump was talking about firing squad or guns and are pointing at liz cheney. it is a reference to violence . donald trump does that and we all get upset, as we should. people just launder it. the point he was making or taken seriously but not literally. i wonder how when we finally get over this period in politics and his grandchildren are asking him what he did to stop proto-fascism. i don't know what he will say, but the same old tired story and we jumped for the bait. three times a day, he says something and we spend more time that we should talking about the wacky and dangerous things he says. >> let me ask you as a final question. when will we know the final results of the election given how close it is? i want to ask you to make a
12:57 pm
prediction. give me a quick answer on that. what do you think? >> uncertainty plays right into donald trump's game plan of creating uncertainty and suggesting that the system is rigged even though we know it's not. i don't have any particular insight, but i know it will take time to count votes and i know we should expect to go to bed on tuesday night without knowing the results possibly in the house, senate and possibly of the presidency. at some point, we need to fix that and we have the technology to do it, but right now let's just be cool and sane and hope that it's as fast as possible. by the way, hope that it is stunningly clear as possible. >> it all means a strong cup of coffee on wednesday morning. that's for sure. always good to see you, sir. thank you for joining me. before we go, we will bring you highlights from the trail of what you might have missed, including a wad of cash next. h the right amounts without over or under investing. so you can feel confident in your financial choices

1:00 pm
much bigger is this stack going to be with 48 months of kamala harris's leadership? the answer is that it will be way too high. then, bill clinton in orlando florida and he made this point about donald trump and the message from trumps campaign. >> the thing that i disagree most with president trump is that they are always looking for somebody and some other. it is us versus them. it is basically like a domination project, isn't it? turnout in some spots could depend on the weather. here are the temperatures we expect to see on tuesday. that will do it for me on this edition of alex witt reports. will be next saturday and sunday 1:00 eastern. black voters, the road to 2024 is next. do not just sit back
