disease for which vaccines have been available for more than 60 years. in 2019, and entirely preventable outbreak on samoa killed 83 people. most of them children under the age of four. why? why was a preventable disease spreading like wildfire and killing so many children? one year prior to that outbreak, two infants in samoa died after nurses accidentally mixed their vaccine doses with another drug. it was a horrible tragedy. and it was one the american anti-vaccination movement sought to exploit. the anti-vaccine group, children's health defense, jumped on the incident to stoke skepticism about vaccines in samoa. during that time, measles vaccination rates for infants in samoa went from 92% in 2013, to just 40% by 2018. the man in charge of that anti- vaccination campaign, the leader of children's health defense, was robert f. kennedy jr. he personally traveled to samoa as an honored guest of the prime minister.
6:03 pm
kennedy told the local papers that the samoan prime minister shared kennedy's concerns about vaccines. right around that same time, the prime minister halted the country's infant measles vaccine program. all of that created the conditions for samoa's deadliest measles outbreak in generation. which resulted in the deaths of dozens of the islands of children. the man who ran that deadly, anti-vaccination campaign has just been named, by donald trump, to be the next secretary of health and human services where he will oversee everything from vaccine to drug approvals and children health, and the center for disease control and prevention. trust has already promised to give him a broad mandate when it comes to america's health. >> robert f kennedy cares more about human beings and health and the environment than anybody.

far as we know, he was giving information about other men he introduced this a minor to. he said was part of his plea, he also witnessed the minor having sex with other men, it does not say who. he was a witness to that and these acts were happening. the judge in that sentencing of joel greenberg said this was cooperation be on anything he is seen in his 22 years. that is under seal, most of it. the only parts we know that our public are the four people he ended up giving information on that were charged. four people charging based on a cooperator -- that is pretty standard. that is not, this is or extraordinary. what is under seal? i imagine is part of what now the house ethics committee took up.

doj decided not to charge matt gaetz with anything. but the house ethics committee wanted to investigate further. maybe there is not a federal crime, maybe there is something else. they were looking at these sexual misconduct allegations in the illicit drug use, among other things. i think joel greenberg's testimony, he apparently provided written information to the house ethics committee, i think it would be at the heart of this. along with other witnesses, the minor, and other witnesses to the conduct. >> his girlfriend, as well. the house is like, doj did not charge him with crime, but it's of interest to us as an ethical matter. now the house ethics chair, he said, if he is no longer in congress, then the ethics committee does not have purview. except, it's not like he is leaving to sell real estate in florida. >> right. he is leaving to get a higher position. he is looking to be a part of the president's cabinet. the reason you would not make a report like that public is

because if the guy is leaving with his tail between his legs, you do not want to dirty him up. let him just go. here, he is resigning right before the report is going to be released so that he can conceal it from the public and he can get this great post at the head of the department of justice. that is absurd. we need to know what is in that report. >> we played the sound of senators suggesting they want to see with the house ethics committee came up with in its report. it's an open question about whether it will actually be made public. you even have senator josh hawley saying if there is not an ethics report release, there will be an fbi investigation. here is where i have to ask. i remember the investigation to brett kavanaugh. i remember the reporting in the washington post on how surface that investigation was. the trump administration, this is according to the washington

post. the trump administration protected cavanaugh from facing a full fbi investigation in the wake of serious allegations that he sexually assaulted two women. at least eight senators cited the fbi's finding -- ineffectively provided them cover -- >> it was a total farce. they set up a hotline and never even pursued most of the leaves coming. and then to have actual women contacting members of congress and, we have information, no one was following a. the idea that they said we can rely on the fact that there will be an investigation, give me a break. let's see the underlying information. let's see the interviews, let's see what the whitten testimony was. and let's hear from witnesses to the extent we can. do not to say we will rely on what the fbi has done. we deserve to hear from the horses mouth. >> -- we know there are three more appointments. trump's lawyer all doing quite well post litigation. -- a person who argued on

behalf of of the tribe side at the supreme court. he will be the solicitor general. todd blanche and emile bovee. deputy attorney general and principal -- deputy attorney general. i assume they got paid. but this is a big boom. putting up with trump. what is your reaction to these choices? >> that was part of why you do it. you do it so -- >> sleep get a job as the attorney general? >> you can get some higher- level job that may be would not have been available otherwise. john sauer was mike leslie in harvard law school. we were in the same section. he was always very bright. i do not necessarily agree with his political views. he was a smart guy, todd blanche, -- they have been prosecutors. the bar is low here.

matt gaetz is someone who is barely even a lawyer. these are people who at least have some basic level of competency. >> and therefore, they are the most normal pics of their all -- kristi greenberg, say at all with the hand. thank you for making time, we will be right back. back. lost her card, not the vibe. the soul searcher, is finding his identity, and helping to protect it. hey! oh yeah, the explorer! she's looking to dive deeper... all while chase looks out for her. because these friends have chase. alerts that help check. tools that help protect. one bank that puts you in control. chase. make more of what's yours. i'm amy grant, and i want to talk to you from my heart about the heart. i would have been the last person
