world.>> we begin tonight with trump's team of followers, for the past week, around the same time every day, donald trump has unveiled his latest picks for his future cabinet, and to borrow his own words, they are not sending their best. they are sending people that have a lot of problems and they are bringing those problems with them. steve bannon would like to think that these choices are part of a shocking strategy but it is mostly just awe because of just how unqualified these individuals are for any of these posts. the newest addition to the team is north dakota billionaire governor, doug burgum, he famously try to buy support from voters when he began offering $20 gift cards for a donation of any amount to his primary campaign. today, his support of trump

bought himself a cabinet post, he is set to inherit the department of interior from deb holland which should make your stomach drop because he and trump want to turn america's public lands into a giant gas station. that they will drill dry. pete hegseth would be the least experienced position, experienced person in that important position in the history of the republic. the ivy league kid was commissioned as an infantry captain in the army national guard but has never managed anything close to an $800 billion agency with 1.3 million active-duty troops and another 1.4 million in the national guard reserves and civilian employees around the world. pete hegseth who belongs to a church that believes we must re-establish biblical law as the standard for society has a vision of the military that is

one of heterosexual male dominance with a stated disdain toward lgbtq+ identities, feminism and liberal democracy. yesterday, it emerged that the same guy was investigated for an alleged sexual assault in 2017. he was not charged with a crime and his lawyer said pete hegseth was cleared . tulsi gabbard, the pick for director of national intelligence has never worked in the intelligence world but is now on track to oversee 18 intelligence agencies with a budget of about $70 billion, and serve as the principal adviser to the president on intelligence matters. her experience is stunning or lack thereof, her openly anti- american talking points are even more problematic, given that they undermine the very agencies that she could lead. she has solicited a meeting with russian backed syrian

president and has parroted russian propaganda when she falsely reported that ukraine was behind russia's invasion of them, her talking points are simple similar to russian talking points, that a top putin propagandist called tulsi gabbard our girlfriend, and she also called donald trump saudi arabia's bitc - blank. unlike tulsi gabbard and jd vance, matt gaetz has never called trump a female dog or americas hitler, wait, he did call him that. matt gaetz does share trump's good fortune when it comes to alleged criminality, sorry, he didn't call him that, that was

another one of his guys, he was under investigation for sexual misconduct and illicit drug use by the house ethics committee for roughly three years but that investigation came to a halt once he was picked as attorney general, and he immediately resigned from office. matt gaetz has denied the allegations. the committee was supposed to meet last night and discussed if they would release the report but the meeting was canceled and speaker mike johnson doesn't think there's a good reason to mess with the presidents.>> i believe it is very important to maintain the houses tradition of not issuing ethics reports on people who are no longer members of congress. i think it would open up pandora's box, it is a very important role that should be maintained. if it has been broken once or twice, it should not have been because that would be a pandora's box. it is a very important tradition to maintain regardless.>> in this new world order, acquiescence is key and defiance is punishable, listen to this threat.>> if you want

american democracy. joining me now, ben rhodes, i want to go back to tulsi gabbard, from your perspective, how do you process the idea that she could soon lead our intelligence agencies?>> yeah, it's an alarming choice to say the least, there are different ways you could think about it, first of all it's interesting to me that trump has reserved some of his most ludicrous pix for intelligence and law enforcement, that is clearly an area where he wants to drive people out of bureaucracy, i think he wants to essentially empty out these agencies and restock them with a cabinet of maga people , and the second . is that the dni people should be aware, the principal adviser

to the president tells us what that means, i was in a pdb with president obama for years, every morning, that is the dni who receives that product. so the information that receives the most important issues is filtered to this person, we know tulsi gabbard has bizarre views that are wildly out of step with the american national security interest, you talked about the pro-russian talking points, that is only the beginning of it. so just imagine how she might filter, look at her social media accounts, it'll tell you a filter through which she is putting that information that informs the united states and informs the rest of the government, that is alarming, and the last piece is how she is going to interact with the other people that fill out the intelligence committee, we have a nominee who is somebody who will withdraw his name from consideration in the past trump administration, definitely a

loyalist, in addition to intelligence gathering, there are rumors of him firing christopher wray and putting in a loyalist who makes these other people look good in terms of their credentials, so he may be trying to transform the entire intelligence committee through this extension of maga and given how much happens in the shadows, that the american people won't see the intelligence committee, that should be very worrying to people. >> and tara, all the conspiracy theories are here to play, between rfk junior and tulsi gabbard, i was reading a piece that said, and everyone can have their own religion, but she is a member of a sect that some deem occult and she is a member of it and people say it is a bit strange and it would have made it difficult for hit -- her to get national security.

it is hard to imagine our allies being excited about sharing intel with us if these people are in place let alone the dod. there is some reporting that nbc has that there are some rumblings against at least the matt gaetz nomination on capitol hill, and people claiming always without attribution, quietly, that they may not want to confirm him. do you believe that there are enough spying -- spines left among republicans? >> no, why would we believe that, all the reporting that is coming out that the senators are aghast at the nominations and the trifecta with tulsi gabbard and matt gaetz and rfk junior, we don't care what you are aghast about, they were aghast after january 6 and didn't do a thing about it. so why would they do it now?

it is so frustrating for those of us who have been sounding the alarm for years that this is exactly what donald trump would do, that all of a sudden everyone is pro clutching, this is who donald trump wants, this is the type of chaos that even nikki haley warned republicans about, and here we are, the idea, and it is still sinking in, 10 days later, here we are, that this is happening, because it was all just notion before and now it is real and the american people are about to find out what happens when you empower someone as unfit as donald trump and the cacophony of kooks that he brings with him , that is going to undermine our democratic institution and reform our government in a way we have never seen.

and the next one for fbi director, because trump wants to get rid of christopher wray because he wants another loyalist, that should scare everyone also in a position like the fbi, this is a guy that used to work at the doj and he had some incidents where he felt that he wasn't offended and he has had it out now for the fbi, for the doj, for the deep state and he pals around with steve bannon and danny johnson in the severe right wing, this is a guy that is a bootlegger for donald trump, he is a sycophant to the point where he's trying to emulate trump, he hops all merchandise online, he has written books that are a bunch of bs, he produced the january 6 anthem, so this is a guy that you want to put in charge of the fbi? he is someone who wants to prosecute journalists and go after the media, he would be donald trump's enforcer, so these are the types of things that we have to now face as reality and the republicans who

have the ability to stop this, i'm not holding my breath but it's up to them, unfortunately, and they did nothing but let us down because they are cowards and that is how we got here in the first place frankly.>> i don't expect any of them to be stopped, and i want to talk about pete hegseth , this is the pick for defense secretary, the sexual assault allegation which of course his lawyer denied, he was cleared, the trump transition team is vigorously denying the accusations, there were no charges filed. the monterey police department has issued a press release saying the full police report including its analysis and the conclusion is exempt from closure, so we are not going to get a lot of details about it but if you are overseas looking

at somebody coming into the pentagon who may be cashiering generals, who are seniors to him in every way in the military, looking at the potential for them to be trying to get retribution on our four- star generals and high-ranking officials in the military, prosecuting journalists, et cetera, is there any reason number one, why foreign intelligence services would keep sharing information with us and anywhere for the biden administration to get out of these deals with intelligence sharing before trump and the comments section take over?>> i don't know that the biden administration would do that, they are playing it by the book in terms of this transition, but you know, that is there modus operandi that we have seen over the few years, that is the one gear that joe biden knows, and we are in different times. and i think the allies can make their own decisions and i do

think they will be evaluating this as it unfolds on things like information sharing and other forms of cooperation and whether to look to the united states as the principal defense partner, there are a lot of countries that are on the fence. we have been trying to build military relations with india, expand alliances in europe and asia, you know who is a serious person when it comes to understanding military matters? the chinese minister of defense, it is not a fox and friends host on the weekends, the russian minister of defense, these are people who have been working military affairs for decades. they must be looking at this guy and saying, what a gift to us. if you are an american ally, you are hedging. i see stories about the allies preparing to charm trump and all this stuff, that might be the outward facing approach diplomatically but they are seriously hedging, europe is developing its own industrial base to become its own supplier

for defense, emmanuel mccrone is talking about not only having its own defense capability but they need to look around to other partners around the world. the chinese will be trying to take advantage of that, and germany had their first phone call with vladimir putin in two years, so you can see what is happening around the world, they don't have time to waste and sit around, they see what is happening, they don't need to normalize it, they need to adjust to it and we see a lot of countries moving in different directions over the next four years. this time, they can see maybe this where america is going and they might be going a different direction i think.>> indeed, and they can google, they know these people he is putting forward are not qualified for their positions, our allies don't have to take them

process of trying to vet these people and tulsi gabbard, i talked about it before, she is in the science of identity foundation, people have called that a cult, it would have cost her a security clearance, you would have been trying to vet these people and just the basic things about them, to say nothing of the conspiracy theories they believe, it wouldn't get near a normal republican government and yet here we are, the comment section is coming to run the country. >> this is correct, donald trump would not pass a security clearance, so the security is a joke because we saw what they did to it in the first term and we saw who donald trump put in place to vet personnel, he put in his personal caddie, he was a football player or whatever, they are doing it again, they are putting people in charge that are responsible for the thousands of political appointees that will be placed throughout the government, they want to get rid of the experts

in the career civil servants in all of our cabinet departments, that is what project 2025 is about. they told us. they are also circumventing the normal process, they are not using fbi background checks for these people, they are outsourcing to private companies, that tells you that they would never pass a more thorough in-depth fbi investigation. this is the depth of expertise, this is what my friend tom nichols wrote about in his book, they don't want people who have expertise, they don't want people who respect our intelligence partnership with our allies, you think they are going to share intelligence with us with these unserious people? donald trump is trying to turn our country into a cross between celebrity apprentice and the hunger games, they are unserious. and these are people with grievances with their respected agencies, they are there to tear them down, steve bannon said he will take a blowtorch to them, that is why they are

there. the way we are approaching this, it is frustrating the way the biden administration is approaching this translation now, because they don't want to seem as though there is a five alarm fire happening but there is, we have to stop treating this as if we are in a normal transition because we are not, these people want to destroy our agencies and institutions and installed donald trump as king. kash patel wrote a children's book about it. and our enemies are looking at this smiling, saying we are going to fill the void.>> this is happening at a time when the world is realigning anyway, because i think americans are not really understanding what it means to no longer be a bipolar russia-u.s. world when you have other countries like china stepping forward and this alliance, you've got nato, ukraine, and us, in one current

alliance, then you look at that future, looking at a world where you have russia, china and we are aligned with north korea, venezuela and argentina and a new access, and the bricks world which is what happens with iran and africa , the whole continent of africa is realigning. it is a really odd time for the united states to become sort of a second player under russia's hospices. >> this is really important, in 2016 after that shock election, i was with president obama when he met with xi jinping for the first time and obama was trying to see what trump does, and xi jinping looked at obama and said, if an immature leader throws the world into chaos, the world will know who to blame. ever since then, the

realignment has already been happening, and in 2016, i'm not suggesting a meeting was rosie but it is better than it is now, in the sense that we have a full-blown war in ukraine, the biggest war in the middle east since iraq, you have this flashpoint in china but to the point that you make, there has been a major realignment, the chinese have done good work these last eight years to take advantage of the dysfunction in the united states, to build parallel institutes. the reasons the sanctions on russia haven't been working is because there's already alternative methods of trade that avoids the dollar, there are countries like india that are big and strong and feel free to ignore us. this didn't get much better under biden because the war in gaza in particular, these global countries have half the critical resources needed for things like clean energy they have customers for artificial

result? >> you laid out so eloquently what we are facing is a crisis because not only do we have one man who is a liar, we have a party who has now decided to go full stop with those lies, so we say democrats come to a fight with some emails or a gunfight with sheer will and the truth, and that is clearly, that hasn't worked. what does worry me is that we have seen time and time again, now the larger republican party blatantly lying to the american public, as long as they continue to repeat it, it becomes in essence truth to a lot of people and that is what motivates them along with racism and sexism and a host of other things, but it motivates them to go to the polls to take away from others because there is this perception of scarce resources that own -- only the

republican party can fix, if you look at the policies of the democrats, they are trying to shore up the safety net, they are trying to build up the tax base that republicans have taken away, so all of these repairs that democrats consistently try to make are necessarily resonating with the american people and they are being blamed essentially for republican policies because republicans essentially say we tried to fix it, it is the democrats who care too much about the blacks, immigrants, lgbtq+ communities and they don't care about you which is a lie but as long as it is repeated, it helps at the ballot box.>> to shore up what christina is saying, there is some evidence that those $130 million of ads saying kamala harris believes in trans surgery for prisoners, there is the sense that there are scarce

resources and democrats just want to use government to give resources to illegal immigrants and give resources to everybody but me, so me, i want trump because trump is going to make it rain money on me and you are starting to seek a couple of phenomenon. the first phenomenon that i'm seeing on social media as people waking up, like maybe he's not going to rain money on me and maybe, can i take my vote back? and the second one being this demand that democrats come together around trump, why can't we come together and have thanksgiving after they voted in a way that could imperil people's literal democracy?>> if only, harris went on joe rogan, everybody would have been solved, don't you understand, that is how it works. there are so many reasons why people say we lost this election, but the other thing, democrats, want a fighter, they don't want to give donald trump

any benefit of the doubt, we are not going to give him any grace, we are going to take the fight to them because we know who he is and we know who we are, so we are not going to compromise our values. there are definitely people out there who would give up their democracy for a better life, it is a choice between democracy or getting what they look -- what they want. so you have various things going on, but to the point, democrats want a fighter and that is, overall people want to see a fighter, i don't like trump but he is perceived as a fighter, that resonates with certain people.>> let me ask you really quick, because i have been talking with pro- palestinian activists who are waking up to the fact that this

administration that is coming in is even further to the right on israel and the same philosophy but extreme, are you hearing from folks who are maybe thinking buyers remorse? >> to certain people in the community, they still voted for vice president harris, about 22,000 votes, she lost the state by about 80,000, it was about a moral decision for sure but it's not going to be easy if you are pro-palestinian, the one i take away, i never knew we had as many allies, and the democratic base is on the side of cease-fire, commissioning aid to israel, consistent with international law, so look, i don't know that voters have regrets about it, they didn't
