good morning. i'm jose diaz-balart. we begin with breaking news out of the middle east. earlier today a gun man opened fire at an israeli bus in the west bank injuring eight people. meanwhile, a nearby syria, insurgents detonated two car bombs and entered the country's second largest city aleppo. it's the first attack on aleppo since 2016. all this while hezbollah and israel are accusing each other of violating the seats fire a day after reaching the agreement. joining us from beirut, lebanon, matt bradley. great seeing you. what's the significance of all of this? >> reporter: yeah, i mean, when we are talking about these different moving parts in the middle east they are really joined together by the central conflict we have been seeing with israel and the neighbors. i hate to speculate, but i will since you are asking, jose, the fact is, is that we have seen a really not unprecedented but a
7:02 am
shocking revival of that civil war in syria which had been more bunt for quite a few years thanks to peace treaties in place. now it looks as though the islamist rebels and their turkish-backed allies, iran and namely hezbollah here in lebanon are on the back foot. hezbollah, before they had the year-long war that has since come to a peace treaty the last couple of days, they were fighting to defend the regime of bashar al assad, which is now under siege by these islamist rebels and turkish backed allies. we are seeing something of a real conflict here in lebanon and neighboring syria. we don't know for sure. this could just be an offends opportunity. at the same time it looks as though the timing is uncanny that these islamist rebels
7:03 am
choose now to launch a major offensive. >> yeah, very few things happen in a vacuum, my dear friend, as you know, matt. meanwhile, let's talk, if you would, on that ceasefire between, you know, lebanon and hezbollah and israel. there are some violations according to both sides? >> reporter: both sides are complaining that the other has violated the terms of the ceasefire. while this is typical for arrangements where they are ending a bruising battle going on for the better part of the past year, now we are seeing complaints. the israelis had launched an airstrike for the first time yesterday into lebanese territory. but at the same time despite all the odds and the fact that again this was a horrific conflict going on here much of the past two months, nearly 4,000 lebanese have been killed since the beginning of the hostilities back a day after those october 7th attacks last year in the gaza strip, now we are starting
7:04 am
to see a tenuous hold, a sort of a peace that could look as though it will endure despite the violations and complaints. remember, jose, i have been coming to you for two months. we have seen regular bombardment behind me. now it's still silent despite the fact that we are seeing violations. looks for the moment, and this could change at any time, this peace is going to hold. >> and matt, so you are there in beirut and can take us there. i mean, this is a city that has suffered is so much not only in the last since the massacre of october 7th, october 8th, everything going on there, massive explosion in the port area. how is that city, like, how do you see it on a daily basis there now? >> reporter: yeah, i mean, walking around this city, it's a world away, obviously, from what it was a couple of months ago. there were israeli bombings in the center of the city.
7:05 am
if you walk in central beirut now it's a totally different situation than when you go to the neighborhood of a shiite muslim-majority neighborhood south of beirut, a hezbollah stronghold. it has been really badly damaged in successive bombings. that's about where hassan nasrallah, the slain head of hezbollah was killed just about two months ago in a huge israeli bombardment. so now we are walking around there just yesterday and there were folks who were sitting on the streets, clearing out their homes. everybody seems determined to move back despite the fact this this peace is quite precarious. they are desperate. this is a situation that has really sprung out of nowhere for so many lebanese people. it was a huge displacement crisis. the government was not capable of handling it. now they are moving back in droefts. what we saw yesterday, hezbollah flags flying, people had hassan
7:06 am
nasrallah posters up. there was a lot of love for hezbollah in the hezbollah stronghold neighborhoods. elsewhere in the country you are seeing some amount of damage, seeing tensions created by this massive displacement crisis, a lot of people who would normally not be living next to each other are. that has flamed the sectarian tensions always somewhat in the background of this country regardless where you are. now we are starting to see that relieving itself. this has been a pressure valve on this country that kept not only the regional from going into a region-wide car that could have engulfed the middle east and the united states and iran, but released for this country as well and kept it from turning into the kind of civil war that we have been seeing stalking this land for 15 years before 1990. jose. >> matt bradley in beirut, thank you very much. appreciate it t my friend. take care. i want to bring in medal of honor recipient and retired member of the u.s. army colonel jack jacobs.

always a pleasure seeing. you how do you see the -- what's going on here. matt gave us a broad and very specific at the same time picture of what is going on, these different pieces. let's talk specifically about syria. what do you think is going on there? the dictatorship of bashar al assad in danger today more than it was six months ago? >> reporter: >> first, i agree with matt. too much of a coincidence that iran is on its heels and hezbollah is on its heels and the insurgents decided now is a good time to start making a move on aleppo. we have discovered over a long period of time that insurgencies are extremely difficult to put down. they last a long time. there are always going to be attacks. and even in a despot i can regime like that of bashar al assad, this is likely to continue. iran and rauch have taken
7:08 am
assad's side. there are a lot of reasons for that. not the least significant of which is that they are stereo strategic imperatives to russia to have places to put their ships in the medtorianian. suffice to say that iran and russia are on assad's side. they will continue to use whatever means they can to put down the insurgeonsy, but they are multi-farias and will persist. >> and so colonel, let's turn towards the israel and hezbollah, lebanon ceasefire that's suppose to be permanent. how do you see that? >> it's interesting. the last time there was a ceasefire like this was 2006. it lasted quite a long time. but you should never say never or always. things don't last forever and this ceasefire probably won't last forever either. the thing to keep in mind about this is that when wesiak sayings
7:09 am
of breaching the ceasefire is that the chain of command is never perfectly efficient to get the word down all the way to the bottom of the food chain to make sure that everybody complies, particularly on hezbollah's side. and on hezbollah's side in addition to that there is a significant number of people in hezbollah who despite all the difficulties they have had against israel disagree with the ceasefire and decided to, from time to time, to make attacks on israel. israel is going to continue to be -- is going to continue to respond, but will probably do so judiciously. israel is tired, too, of this war. it does not need to continue to fight a proxy of iran on its northern border, would like things to get back to as normal as they possibly can be. so agree again with matt that
7:10 am
this tenuous ceasefire is libel to continue, jose. >> and just there is no doubt that since october 8th, right, when hezbollah started stepping up its attacks towards israel, that israel has been supremely effective in really destroying much of the infrastructure of hezbollah from the pagers to the walkie-talkies to nasrallah to anything that is leadership of hezbollah has been severely degraded by israel, and so my question is, iran now, which is, you know, hezbollah's main source, is meeting today with britain, france and germany to discuss its nuclear program. iran responsible for much of what is going on in the region. how strong or weak is the iranian raanan regime now. >> the leadership in iran except for the political leadership has

7:45 am
>> well, jose, happy thanksgiving. walking pneumonia is really what it sounds. it's a pneumonia, basically a bad cold, but it's not a -- and it causes a pneumonia, but not so bad that it causes you to stay in bed throughout the day the. you can literally walk with it, and function. so that's why they wall it walking pneumonia. that z-pak that many of your viewers may be familiar with, that five-day course is usually the treatment for walking pneumonia caused by bacteria that we don't really talk often about. this is something we can talk -- seeing more and more since the pandemic. usually a bacteria that has sprung up maybe three, four years, especially in a pediatric population, but we are seeing more and more. it's reflective of the ways in which covid really changed the ecosystem of bacteria and viruses that we inhale. things are really unpredictable these days.

7:48 am
not than getting a -- just a covid test and then, you know, a flu test? >> the problem is the flu test stand alone doesn't exist within a home environment. this is that sort of three in one test that only exists that allows you to test for flu, and covid. the sensitivity of the tests, the accuracy is very high. no different than just the covid alone test. i recommend everybody stock up if you can. there is actually some black friday deals. not that, you know, i have a sort of any inside road here. but i saw some discounts today on black friday. you can get them on the cheap. submit the receipt to your insurance, hopefully, for full reimbursement, or if you want you can go to covid test gov to get four free covid tests delivered to your house. arm yourself with the tests so you are aware. if you have a medically higher risk condition, jose, what are the other things to stay safe.
