new law, 49 to 40%. 11% of the folks say they have no opinion on it. nbc's luke russert is live on capitol hill with the very latest. luke, the republicans very active here in trying to still stand in the way of this law. >> they are, tamron. they are taking their time right now on the house floor, reiterating what are the main gop objection to this bill, saying it will cut medicare rates, balloon the deficit and drastically increase taxes. you're also going to see a whole barrage of members offered by republican senators in an effort to try to get democrats to support one of these amendments that would, in fact, change the bill. under the reconciliation process if this house fix it bill is changed in any way in the senate it must go back to the house and be voted on again before it can be approved completely. why is this important? it strings out the time, delays the fix it bill from becoming law. allows republicans to say

cornhusker kickback is out there, gator aid bill. senator mccain wants to clean up sweetheart and fix it bill as money for louisiana and money for asbestos victims in montana. chuck grassley has an amendment saying the president and his cabinet should buy health insurance from the health insurance exchanges. senator coburn has an amendment that says there should be a law that prohibits any money from the government subsidiesing to for viagra and other performance enhancing drugs of that nature, tamron, for convicted sex offenders. a lot made to put democrats on the fence and prolong the process. >> to that point with our colleague, kelly o'donnell reported on "nightly news" of the 22 times we've seen reconciliation, 21 times it's been sent back to the house because some of these amendments worked. >> that is correct, tamron. that's why steny hoyer told us he's going to keep the house around and in session ready to vote in case it goes back.

saying in at least three states they reported instances of vandalism and violence. nbc's rachel maddow digging deep into the disturbing element that's become part of the health care fight and why some are choosing to react in such an extreme way. >> reporter: here is what we know. sometime on friday a brick was thrown through a window at louise slaughter's district office in new york. late friday, early saturday, another brick thrown to a window at the sedgewick county democratic party office in kansas. that brick was reported to have anti-obama and anti-reform messages on it. late saturday or early sunday another brick shattered doors at the democratic headquarters in rochester, new york. shortly after the health care reform vote sunday a fist-sized rock thrown through the front window of the hamilton county democratic party in pleasant

ridge, ohio. at 2:40 a.m. on monday morning, a few hours after the health care vote, the front door and glass panel were smashed out. democratic congresswoman gabrielle tucson office in arizona. compiling all those, niagara falls, rochester new york, kansas, arizona, five separate attacks on democratic party offices in the span of four days of since the initial reports we have also noted fbi investigating threats left at congresswoman's campaign office. a reported message threatening to assassinate the children of lawmakers who voted yes on health care reform. again, the fbi now reportedly investigating that reported death threat against her children. we can also show you what was used to smash out the glass door at democratic party headquarters in new york. that brick had a note wrapped

around it which reads, extremism in defense of liberty is no advice. presuming they meant extremism, not exremism. in last night's report on this show, on some of those incidents, we said nobody had taken responsibility for any of these incidents. that's one thing i said reporting on these incidents i would have guessed didn't change in 24 hours. that's changed. rochester democratic chronicle reporting after their initial story on the attack on the office, somebody did contact the newspaper to happily claim credit for that incident. his name is mike vanderboegh, alabama constitutional militia. he's been advocating

specifically that people throw bricks through the windows of democratic party headquarters around the country. he wants credit whenever anyone follows his advice. on his blog last week, he wrote an anti-democrat manifesto that included this call to action. we can break their windows before we have to resort to rifles to resist their well intentioned tyranny. these windows are not far away from where you're reading this right now in virtually every city and county in this land local headquarters of pelosi's party, the democratic party. they have windows. if you wish to send a message pelosi and her party cannot fail to hear, break their windows, now, break them again, break them under cover of night, break them in broad daylight, break them in arrest with willful civil disobedience, break them. the time has come to take your life, liberty and children and grandchildren into your own two hands and act. it is more humane than shooting them in self-defense.

his horn to be famous. he is tied into a somewhat organized movement. a featured speaker at a forthcoming event, restore the constitution open carry rally, a gun rights rally scheduled for april 19th at fort hunt national park in virginia. why fort hunt national park? according to organizers, they believe it's the closest location to washington, d.c. in which they can legally openly carry their firearms. what these people are doing is explicit. they are trying to get publicity, media attention. their other goal is to intimidate the political process in the country. they capital get people to do what they want through the voting process, they are, instead, using guns as a means of intimidating our national politics and fellow citizens along the way. this gun theme has been a consistent threat over the past year. you might remember this tea party protest sign we kept seeing at lots of events.

we came unarmed this time. remember people showing up at political events with guns strapped at their side. remember the guy in new hampshire who showed up at one of president obama's town hall events brandishing a .9 millimeter pistol. had a sign about replenishing the tree with blood. this gun fervor, intimidating force showed up on the lead up to the health care vote. warning if brown -- as in senator scott brown -- can't stop it, a browning can. the armed and dangerous theme isn't just in the streets, protests. it's vernacular by which supposedly mainstream politicians address their followers now. sarah palin tweeted to her followers today. quote, common sense conservatives and lovers of america don't retreat. instead, reload.

welcome back. we've got breaking news to report from our control room. dozens of suspected terrorists have been arrested in saudi arabia. they include 47 saudis, 51 citizens of yemen and three people of other nationalities. all are said to be members of al qaeda. saudi officials say they belong to three terror cells that operated separately. they are accused of plotting a suicide attack against saudi oil facilitators and security installations in the kingdom.

the powerful spring snowstorm pounded denver, colorado, shutting down schools, canceling at least 150 flights as well. the wet, heavy snow ripping down tree branches and let thousands of folks without power. nbc's lee ann greg joins us live from denver. a report of about 5,000 people had to spend the night in the airport. that's not a bad airport but who wants to spend the night in it? >> that's just one of the problems, you know. up to 16 inches of snow fell in the denver metro area. more than 20 fell in parts of the foothills. you mentioned power outages, heavy, wet snow is the problem. the branches are heavy, fall on power lines and that's what's causing the outages. it's gorgeous, looks like a christmas card but it's deadly to drive in. there are other problems as well. avalanche warnings placed in effect in the front range

welcome back. the u.s. treasury department is imposing sanctions on 54 members of two powerful mexican drug gangs it blames for the recent spike in killing near the united states. officials say the sanctions target principle lieutenants and enforcers of the cartel and a splinter group. the individuals have been added to the treasury's black list specifically designated narcotics traffickers.

person. tea partiers would be a spoiler if these numbers are accurate. let's bring in ryan with the "huffington post." >> thanks for having me, tamron. >> i want to talk about is it difficult for the tea party to be effective in that now part of their story line includes people yelling at members of congress the n word and f word, and that has to certainly, i would think, even though they say that's just a few follow them. >> reporter: this was only a matter of time. it's a movement defined by rage and extremes. if you combine rage and extremes, you get some element of racism and homophobia. finally after a year or so of this, the camera has captured some of that on film, as they were shouting these epithets at members of congress. you see similar behavior from members of congress on the

floor. you had somebody yelling "baby killer" at a pro-life democrat. you had someone yelling "you lie" at the president during the state of the union address. during a congressional debate a protester was being dragged out of the visitors gallery and the republicans were cheering him on. so ushers are dragging this guy out screaming in the hall of congress, the kind of thing people get arrested for regularly when they are protesting, and the republicans are cheering them on. there's really no divide between the republican party and tea party protesters. >> there may be a divide if these quinnipiac numbers are true, if the tea party would act as a spoiler. how do the republicans handle this? a lot of them thought the tea party would be help. they are not beheld. >> in the primary they have to move over to the right to make sure they can satisfy the tea party base f they don't do that, they don't move far enough right, either a tea party candidate will enter as a third

party candidate or a tea party candidate will become the republican candidate running in the general election. that moves them so far to the right that a democrat can move up in the polls, as you showed on the screen earlier. >> i want to play what karl rove actually said on msnbc about this tea party movement. here is what he had to say, ryan. >> this tea party movement is largely novices, relatively unsophisticated political people and as a result sometimes their rhetoric is raw and angry. that's the downside. >> unsophisticated, novice. i think they probably in their minds believe they are sophisticated, that they are more in tune with america, and at least their view or world of it. what do you make of karl rove's example of them being unsophisticated. >> they are unsophisticated in the sense they are not trying to massage their message so it plays the best with a broad spectrum. they are angry and they are going to let you know exactly how they feel.

that's an energy the republicans can harness but at the same time it's extremely dangerous to them. there have been compare sons made to the far left anti-war movement during the '60s. that was passion, that was energy. there were some sophisticated thinkers but not in the sense they figure out elections. they were more interested in punishing the democratic party for what it saw as collusion in the vietnam war. it's the same on the reverse side with this new fringe element. so what the democrats are going to be able to do is pound the republicans heads against the tea party base. >> it will be very interesting. these numbers i think we'll be talking a lot about them. ryan, good to see you. thanks for coming on with me. >> thanks for having me. >> absolutely. >> obama administration pay czar announced further cuts for top executives for five firms that receive taxpayer bailout and haven't repaid loans. an average of 15% for top executives at insurance giant

aig, general motors, chrysler, gmac and chrysler financial. meanwhile banks and other private lenders are about to lose their $70 billion a year student loans businesses. that's because buried inside health care reform law is a massive overhaul of assistance programs. under the measure banks will no longer get fees from the government acting as a middleman for low income students. they will increase pell grants to students in need and make it easier for graduates to pay back their student loans. georgia police are no longer seeking a dna sample from ben roethlisberger. the steelers star quarterback is accused of sexually assaulting a 20-year-old sledge student at a nightclub earlier this month. roethlisberger's attorney said officials with drew the request weeks ago. neither officials nor the attorney would say why. in july a woman filed a lawsuit saying roethlisberger raped her at a hotel. he's not been charged in either

winfrey. she's not going to be there. that is taken care of. another legal case in the news, michael jackson case -- not michael jackson's case but conrad murray, california wants to revoke dr. murray's license to practice medicine. this seems like a no-brainer at this point, once you're charged with involuntary manslaughter. dr. murray has still been allowed to prosecute medicine. he till sees patients. this is how he makes his living. that's what his attorneys are going to argue, you can't keep him from having a livelihood. we know he has a lot of financial obligations. he was in the news a few months, massive debt and child support. we'll see how that turns out. >> there's allegations rather than continue to give cpr to michael jackson, he was hiding the drug. >> one of the people on hand when michael jackson died, who was in that house, claims in a new report that dr. murray stopped doing cpr so he could

clean up the scene, remove some of these vials of drugs. that's an inconsistent report. he hadn't said that in the past. remains to be seen how much credence that will be given. also in the news, sarah palin, one of our favorites, is looking like discovery networks are going to pick up sarah palin's alaska, her reality show. the mind boggling part, she will be getting or the show will be getting more than a million dollars per episode. >> the figure doesn't surprise me, but the nature of the show is not about the palin family and shenanigans might go on. >> sarah palin is the meeting with executives more about alaska. discovery networks tend to pay somewhere in the neighborhood of $300 to $500,000 per episode per show. going to a million per episode that's huge. >> mark burnett partnering with her is the good negotiator in this situation. they are obviously putting a lot of eggs in that basket if they move forward with that. interesting to see how they make

uncertainty will not rule our lives, when we put our lives in good hands. welcome back. this morning the national urban league released its latest report on the state of black america. there's some troubling data to show you regarding the racial divide in the country. for the first time data on hispanics, the jobless rate among blacks has nearly doubled

what it is for whites. and at nearly 16% even greater than the 12.4% for hispanics. when it comes to health insurance, more than 30% of hispanics are uninsured while 19% of african-americans lack insurance. joining us to talk about the report reverend jesse jackson, president of the rainbow push coalition. good to see you. thanks for coming on. before we talk about the new information, i want to talk about the troubling scene over the weekend when some people in the tea party chose to use inflammatory, hateful language towards members of congress. what does that tell us and how does that factor into the racial divide in the report. >> many are driven by unfounded fears. many protesting against the health bill need the health bill. some of those there protesting had oxygen tanks. some are in need of pre-existing conditions talk about this new health care bill. the youth will need protection

from their parents until age 26. many will benefit on the front side from the new health care bill and that will diffuse a lot of anger. think the president and his tours must begin to go to some zones and hospitals in areas to show this is good for the healing of america. >> the racial divide in this country from jobs to health care, why is it in your opinion such a gap between blacks and hispanics? >> we have not addressed in a meaningful way expanding poverty. we bail out the banks top down. not bailed out ling to reinvestment, link to lending, the most massive shift in america upward given by the government, most massive loss of wealth in terms of home ownership, blacks and brown in history, banks able to engage in red lining. black or brown making $100,000 a year got subprime high-cost

loans. a white making $50,000 got white low cost loans. at the end of the day it didn't benefit white or black, black may be the victim of brown because of high price but the next-door neighbor house is under water. so neither the black nor brown nor white can pay taxes. they are police, teachers, firemen. the gap is driven widely because of lack of enforcement of civil rights law. stimulus money, that bill should have been a commitment to enforce eoc, contract compliance, consumer protection, that did not happen. >> the report finds america is at a crossroads. some of the recommendations in the equality in decks, help for chronically unemployed. you've talked so much about that. youth summer programs, right around the corner where you have a lot of kids needing jobs. alternative public option. who do you hold accountable? whose feet should be held to the fire to make change here?

>> the government should take the lead. we have a plano for baghdad, a plan for kabul. we say it's urgent. it's a priority. we have a budget and goals and targets and time tables for economic recovery. as committed to recovery in our country as we are in afghanistan and as we are in iraq. >> are you pushing leadership within the democratic party to make some of these changes or address these issues more strongly now? >> really both parties. the president first promised to bail out the banks. that was a good thing but not linked to lending and reinvest me ment. must fortify them. many people with health problems also because of health problems lose their job. all that have health care problems face home foreclosure

problems. that bill minimizes the anti-poverty bill. that's one part of it. targeted job and job training. they plan to deal with poverty, racial disparity and massive plan for reconstruction bottom up and not top down. >> reverend jesse jackson, thank you for joining us, responding to the big report today a lot of people talking about. thank you, sir. >> thank you. a big decision could come soon in the growing number of lawsuits against toyota. down the road the suits could cost the automaker billions of dollars. phil lebeau reports on the auto industry. what are we waiting for? >> big hearing in san diego. at this hearing, that's where many of the attorneys who file class action suits against toyota will meet in front of a panel of judges. those judges will then decide do they consolidate all these cases into one giant national class action suit? if so, who are the lee attorneys, where will it be

next week on new dna evidence and affidavits from witnesses who say they heard other people confess to the murder. the case was the basis for the best-selling book and tv mini serious "fatal vision." now an extraordinary report from our british broadcasting partner, correspondent stephen douglas has an exclusive look at a group of pakistani criminals who say their biggest source of income is kidnapping. >> reporter: well, tamron, what the kidnapping of a 5-year-old british boy in pakistan has revealed is that this is now big business there. and we've discovered that some gangs are prepared to specifically target westerners. what you're about to see is a glimpse inside one of the kidnapper's lairs. with a gun in one hand and chains in the other, they carry the tools of kidnapping. in pakistan, it's a business a growing number of brits are falling victim to. deep beneath the ground these men show us where they say their hostages are held.
