we begin this morning with truth and consequences. representative anthony weiner's political career hangs in the balance this morning as a number of women are claiming to have online relationships with him. this the fellow democrats come to new york congressman's aid as republicans called for his resignation. tracey potts joins us from washington. >> reporter: lynn, democrats said it was silence. congressman weiner's colleagues here want him out. senate majority harry reid said that if congressman antdny weiner calls for him advice -- he'll say -- >> call somebody else. >> reporter: reid is one of the few democrats who spoke out after weiner admitted that he lyde after sending this lewd photo of himself to a college student >> i don't condone his activity. >> reporter: but weiner said that's up to voters.

disaster. >> we have set a path that will lead us to longterm economic growth. so, our task is to not panic, not overreact. >> reporter: a plea for supporters to hang in, even though the recovery has stalled. last night on the last word with lawrence o'donnell, he asked former michigan governor how she feels about mitt romney funds-raising in his state. after his opposition to the bailout back in 2008 of the auto industry. >> we would have seen 1.4 million people unemployed. in michigan alone a 20% unemployment rate. now this has just worked out

pretty well and the auto industries are paying back their loans, has put them on a path of profitability and hiring, interesting that when chrysler said that it was done paying back its loans last week, he said they're followed what i suggested. it's an incredible -- the guy is shameless. i just can't believe that people are going to buy this fellow. this there are a whole string of flip flops that you know about. i think that people who want to donate should be looking at when auto industry was asking for a donation, what he was saying, i think they should give him the same answer. here's your "first look" at other news going around in america today.

the north sky over northern rhode island turned orange after an eight-alarm fire. fire companies were on the scene as the fire gutted the factory. the massive fire on the seven-acre sight caused power outages. the warship connected to the burial of osama bin laden is back in american waters. it docked in pearl harbor, receiving a hero's welcome from 100 greeters. the ship's senior officers refused to does close any information about the burial of the ma9/11 mather mind. also in hawaii, new video of a fresh stream of lava spilling into a lake, this new activity does not pose any danger to

hawaii's big island. but scientists say that it's causing some disruption with the volcano's crust. for a look at your national weather, here's nba meteorologi meteorologist, bill karins. >> chicago, the warmest temperature in five years. minneapolis, 103. that's just doesn't happen that often. incredible heat. everybody to the right here was above 100 degrees. the exceptions, northern new england. and much of the west is much cooler. this cool air will slowly begin to give relief to areas like minnesotaed to. the heat ridge builds to the east, over the top -- right around the smokey mountains.

that hot air is going to pump right around it. minneapolis, you'll cool off as that cold front slides through today and some of the hottest air of the season will be arriving in areas of the mid-atlantic. the 24-hour temperature change, temperature right now compared to yesterday at this time, is about 10 degrees cooler in billings. we're already warming it up. temperature in new york city, 7 degrees warmer right now than when you left the house this time yesterday. there's not much rain out there. so the forecast for today, we'll call 98 in d.c., where yesterday were in the low 90s. the only saving grace, the difference between this heat wave now and what we get in july and august is lot more humid. low humidity. today, 96 in new york. 95 in dallas. thursday, that's when it will peak in the mid-atlantic.

rocking tripoli. parts of libyan ruler mohammad gadhafi's compound. mother nature put on quite a show in canada yesterday. lightning lit up the skies of toronto. striking the cn tower in the downtown area. one missouri ice cream shop is getting bugged for serving a nontraditional ice cream flavor. they have been told to stop cicada ice cream flavor. the shop said that the first batch of the cold treat was sold out within hours. that's just plain nasty. here's your "first look" at how wall street will kick off the day. the dow will start off at 12,070. taking a look at overseas

trading this morning, in tokyo, the nikkei nchd 6 points. in hong kong the hang second dropped 2.07. worries about the struggling economy dragged the blue chips into the red yesterday. after fed chairman ben bernanke blamed high gas prices for what he called frustratingly slow pace. bernanke offered no new stimulus measures. adding to those woes the labor department reported businesses posted about 100,000 fewer jobs in april than they did in march. after the bell, home builder hovananian reported losses that dragged it lower. race speculation that rival

welcome back to "first look." in sports, dallas mavericks' dirk nowitzki fought both off the miami heat and illness to even up the nba finals. >> good morning. despite a temperature of 10 t dirk nowitzki once again the mavs to another comeback win in the nba finals. game four in dallas, lebron james to dwyane wade, alley-oop. miami up by 7 in the fourth. time and time again, the mavs dug deep and found a way to win. slowed by the flu, dirk found the energy to put the mavs up by three. wade mishandled the ball. somehow got it to mike miller, hoisted a three, air ball. mavs win 86-83. game four of the stanley cup finals tonight. aaron rolle will be on the sideline, he's suspended for the rest of the season for blinds e

sports. i'm fred roggin. another quick look at the weather, here's bill karins. good morning once again, bill. >> this was yesterday. yesterday was a little preview for the big cities along i-95. yesterday, was 9 # 1 in hartford. we're going to add almost 10 degrees to those numbers this morning. when you walk out the door, d.c. is 72. new york, 74. 64 in pittsburgh. what does today looks like? it looks like we're going to be dry. a stray thunderstorm here or there. for the most part, it's going to be a dry day. it's not going to be hazy, hot and humid. it's going to be hazy and hot. the air quality is not the best. d.c. at 98. philly at 98. pittsburgh at 92 or so. hartford in the mid-to low 90s.
