we begin this morning with mounting accusations, in the face of an "associated press" report that a third woman from herman cain's past once considered filing a sexual harassment complaint against him, the republican presidential candidate insists he's innocent. and now cain's camp is pointing the finger at gop rival, rick perry. nbc's steve handelsman has more. >> as his campaign crisis got worse, herman cain tried to cut off questions. >> what did i say? >> are you concerned about -- >> excuse me, excuse me! >> but two more people alleged cain committed sexual harassment in the '90s. a woman told the "associated press" cain called her attractive and asked her to his corporate apartment. she told a.p. she considered filing a complaint, but did not. chris wilson, who now does work for rick perry, said he saw cain in a d.c.-area restaurant in the

'90s, sexually harass an employee in her 20s. cain charge as smear campaign. >> there are factions that are trying to destroy me, personally, as well as this campaign. >> he specifically blamed the perry camp and sent his top staffer to fox. >> first rick perry and his campaign all herman cain and his family an apology. >> cain understands he could lose his front-runner status. a poll taken before the allegations puts cain at 30% nationally. but quinnipiac found the 9-9-9 plan is not cain's main appeal. voters just liked him and now that's in jeopardy. >> these allegation goes to the heart of likeability and that was herman cain's calling card. >> more surprises could lie ahead. characters from herman cain's past, with stories still to tell. i'm steve handelsman, nbc news, capitol hill.

wall street protesters in oakland, california, succeeded in shutting down one of the nation's busiest shipping ports last night. thousands marched yesterday in what was supposed to be a peaceful general strike at the port of oakland. but tensions flared as the night wore on. nbc's jay gray reports. >> the occupation grew to more than 4,000 in oakland. >> this movement is alive and well. >> and one of the largest since the nationwide protests began, moving beyond the usual park rallies to the port, with protesters at one point climbing on to tractor-trailers looking to stop what they call the flow of capitol. >> the world is watching oakland tonight and we need to make this a safe place for everyone. >> but what many saw early seemed to turn very ugly. renegade groups shattering windows, vandalizing banks and businesses. >> the people causing the destruction and damages are dressed distinctively, wearing all black.

>> and according to many of the occupy protesters, not part of what's supposed to be a peaceful demonstration. >> we're balancing on one hand free speech and public safety always. >> a fine line and at times, difficult balancing act in oakland. jay gray, nbc news. elsewhere this morning, president obama joins a group of leaders from the world's wealthiest nations in france for a two-day global economic conference. the president arrived in cannes for the g-20 summit this morning. while there, he's faced with the delicate task of encouraging european leaders to resolve their debt crisis without appearing to lecture them, given the current state of the u.s. economy. the possibility of a greek default has increased the need for the g-20 to work together to contain the crisis. well now here's your "first look" at other news going on around america today. a florida woman's morning got off to a rocky start after a school bus crashed into her home. the woman thought an explosion occurred after the bus tore

through a fence and smashed into her house. no injuries to the driver, who was the only person on board. a pilot says he's very lucky to be alive after crashing his plane into a virginia lake. the dazed pilot was pulled to safety by a nearby resident who jumped into his boat after seeing the plane in the water. over 300 chicago-area children got an unexpected front-row seats to the circus. officials marched their biggest performers in front of the wide-eyed students after a botched train schedule forced the elephants to walk a different route to the arena. and finally, dozen this man look like a legendary western outlaw? a south carolina man seems to think so. he believes that the $10 picture he purchased on ebay is a photo of billy the kid. now there's only one authenticated photo of the gunslinger, but according to facial recognition experts. one facial recognition expert. it is the same man in each

about fief dry days with sunshine in a row and it will continue into the weekend. so enjoy the nice weather while we have it in the east. we have a storm system that brought the snow yesterday to denver. currently cold rain in areas of illinois, iowa and kansas city. we didn't get the snow in kansas city we thought we would get. it's turned out to be little too warm. so no snowflakes for any of the kids in kansas city today. and the cold front down through louisiana bringing showers to new orleans and a steady cool rain now moving from st. louis and heading to areas from indianapolis southwards. owensboro. through memphis, nashville, you'll get a period of rain. and there's a tiny bit of white showing up the snow north of st. joseph. but kansas, no snow for you, just chilly. by 5:00 p.m. it should be knocking on the door in atlanta, so the general rule of thumb if

welcome back to "fit look," i'm lynn berry and here are some top stories making news this morning. 40 house republicans have joined 60 democrats, in a letter urging the deficit-cutting supercommittee to consider all options for raising revenue to help shrink the nation's massive debt. several dozen of those republicans have previously signed a pledge. america's poorest of the poor has climbed to a record high of one in 15 people. the data shows poverty has spread widely across metropolitan areas. a manhattan federal jury has convicted a russian arms dealer known as the merchant of death of conspiring to sell weapons to terrorists who he thought intended to kill americans. viktor boot faces 25 years to life in prison. prince william and the princess catherine were at the

u.n. children's charity, unicef, they lent a hand by packing supply boxes. ant in southern wales, a lucky escape for residents of a trailer park. who woke up to find that a landslide had lefter that homes teetering on the edge of a cliff. here's a look at wall street. the dow opens at 11,836, after climbing 178 points yesterday. the s&p 500 jumped 19 and the nasdaq gained 33. taking a look at overseas trading, the hang seng plunged 491. signs the fed is ready to act if needed helped stocks rebound wednesday and calm renewed fear over european debt. in his quarterly news conference, chairman ben bernanke left open the possibility of acting if conditions here or in europe worsen.

the fed forecast growth over the next two years, but bernanke cautioned the pace will be frustratingly slow. meanwhile, european leaders vented outrage at greek prime minister, george papandreau at a meeting in france, after his call for a greek referendum threw europe's debt plan into chaos. german and french leaders, as well as papandreau himself now describe the vote as greece's decision on whether to remain part of europe. a revolt in papandreau's own government may kill the referendum after a confidence vote tomorrow. back at home, an october jump in private hiring also lifted stocks. banks led by bank of america recovered from recent losses. in earnings, mastercard hit its all-time high on soaring earnings, news corp.'s net income fell on costs related to its phone-hacking scandal. kraft rose late on a surge in profit. the opening price will be set today for groupon's much-anticipated ipo, 30 million

shares begin trading tomorrow mplgt. a regulator says now-bankrupt mf global moved millions in missing client funds last week, trying to avoid detection. despite assurances from the firm's lawyer that all client money is the accounted for, reports say roughly $600 million is still missing. finally reef heard of snakes on a plane, how about snakes in a cash register. a surprised customer eventually did get his cash and police took the snake to an animal shelter. a new study finds that despite repeated warnings about packing on the dreaded freshman 15, most college students don't gain 15 pounds in their first year. although i dispute that. the study, whose author calls the freshman 15 a myth, found the average student gains between 2.4 and 3.5 pounds, 20% of all freshman actually lose weight. for more information on this and other health stories, check out

last night. >> hi there, good morning. the devils martin brodeur returned to the ice after missing six games. but not even he could stop the maple leafs. to new jersey where the 39-year-old brodeur was a little rusty. the leaves joffrey lupul beats him and the devils go soft in the second period, scoring not one, not two, but three goals in the span of about seven minutes, the hockey guys call that a hat trick. brodeur did show flashes of brilliance. robs phil kessel in the third period. dives across and makes the save. this is why he's a first-ballot hall of famer. kessel can't believe it, for the devils it's not enough. toronto wins it 5-3. flyers and sabres, philly knows how to score in bunches, three goals in the first six and a half minutes. shawn cot tur. breaks the net and the flyers

meteorologist, bill karins. >> a nice tradition. >> but they've got to clean it up. if you're just joining us, we're under a great stretch of weather for the northeast through the mid-atlantic. all the areas that are suffering from the snowstorm and still hundreds of thousands without power. i know we're starting to get a few of you back here. but it's still very cold where there's snow on the ground in connecticut. we've been melting a little bit each day, it will continue right into the weekend. temperatures in philly and d.c., no problems today, very similar, you need the jacket in the morning. in the afternoon you can get away with usually carrying it home it won't be as picturesque clear, we had the deep blue skies in the region, now we've got some clouds moving through. we'll call it filtered sunshine during the day or sun and cloud mix. buffalo is one of the only spots you do have a chance of some showers. but from pittsburgh to d.c., we'll put you in the low 60s. not bad in philly at 62. and where there's a little snow on the ground, mid 50s for your

for probation violatio, a judge ordered her jailed next week for 30 days. but sheriffs officials say due overcrowding she's probably going to check in and check out. nbc's stephanie stanton has details. >> you admit that you violated probation by failing to obey all orders of the court with respect to both things that the city attorney represented. >> yes, your honor. >> and with that, the judge sentenced lindsay lohan to 30 days in the county jail. >> the sentence i'm going to impose is known in our circles as putting the keys to the jail in the defendant's hands. >> in addition, lohan will be required to perform all of her community service at the l.a. county morgue and continue with her psychotherapy sessions. lohan must complete all of her obligations by march 29th or face serious consequences. >> i will revoke probation and put a warrant out for your arrest. >> lohan is facing two separate d.u.i. case, one in beverly hills and one in l.a. county
